Ass means donkey

I spent the evening watching Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, on DVD.

Kevin Smith is so awesome. He's living the dream for all of us who want to be successful in the entertainment industry, while kicking it in the nuts for how lame it can be. I met him a Comic Con two years ago, and (surprise) geeked out at him, and he was really cool to me. I'd really like to work with him, someday.

I'm going to bet that most of the WWDN readers have already seen this, but if you haven't seen the DVD, yet, you must get your hands on one, by hook or by crook, so you can watch all the deleted scenes (there's something like 90 minutes, or so of deleted stuff), and see all the spiffy extras on disc 2. There's this thing called "The Genius of Will Farrell", that made me feel totally bush league as an improviser, and there's many precious minutes of all the girls running around in their undies. Always a bonus.

I blame this DVD, and Day of Defeat for keeping me up until almost 2 AM, and I haven't even watched the movie with the commentary, yet. I'm going to have a lot of explaining to do with my wife tomorrow, when I can't keep my eyes open when we take Ferris to class!

Comments

kevin smith is a genius - i'm a christian but i have never laughed as hard as i did watching dogma.

i finally saw galaxy quest, and you're right - you definitely should have been in it. tim allen made a great william shatner. heh.

Second comment! Yay!!

Wil, I DEFINITELY agree about Kevin Smith. I haven't seen Jay and Silent Bob Set, but I soon will! Give him a call though - get in his next movie! :) That'd be so cool!

I too am a Kevin Smith fanboy. I drove 150 miles to see the sneak preview of j&sbsb. It was worth it! Can't wait to get the dvd. Have someone tell you about the balls easter egg on the dvd.

The J&SB movies are excellent.. and I really really likeed J&SBSB - but now I HAVE to get the DVD to check out some of that underwear action :)

Well no.. I was considering getting it, and I know its loaded with extra features - but 90 minutes of deleted stuff? Definately SOLD ! :)

Late night solo movie viewing is like mental masturbation. Necessary, private and a good way to keep yourself occupied when the spouse is asleep.

Kevin Smith is groovy. Too bad Chasing Amy sucked such monstrous tallywhacker because of that whiny-assed girlfriend of his. Am I the only one who wanted to reach down her throat and yank Betty Boop out of her? Christ.

But enough about me. Any movie with Ben Affleck in it will either be a) too fucking cool for the vagaries of the English language to ever to justice to, or b) so incredibly awful you'd rather stab your eyes out with a spork than sit through the whole thing.

Agree with all the comments above. Kevin Smith is absolutely brilliant. All his movies are so wickedly funny. I first saw Clerks in a cinema in Madrid, and laughing so hard at the hideous comedy it contained. I've not seen Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, because it hasn't made it to mind-numbingly mainstream Amsterdam yet - (don't believe the hype about this place, it rains a lot and the love stuff like Armageddon for farks sake).

I've tried to educate my friends by loaning them the Kevin Smith movies, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy & Dogma, they've only really heard of Dogma thanks to the righteous protests that the film generated.

I dunno, no sense of humour these religious types.

Perhaps that's why there's so many wars kicking off around the place. - I dunno. It's a funny movie though all the same.

I have to admit I haven't actually seen Silent bob and Jake strike back, but it is on my to do list. In fact I'm desperate to see it, but I haven't managed to get my hands on a copy yet, although my friend has a copy downloaded from the net so I am going to try and borrow that.

almost thought u were talkin' about kevin todd smith. r.i.p. 64-02 actor from xena warrior princess/hercules legendary journeys. :(

Wow, Wil, I wonder how the hell you are gonna explain to your wife that you were awake until 2 AM because that damn Kevin Smith guy put girls running around in their undies as a bonus to his DVD =)

Can't wait to hear what happens next =)

I watched it Friday night with friends. I think that Clerks and Dogma remain my favourites. The dvd of dogma is really cool too.
Wil you should definately be in his next film. He made a documentary of last years Prince celebration so maybe he could make one about your comedy school or you could improv a film with jason lee.

I too love Kevin Smith flicks, the critics seem to hate him. You know what they say about critics ? They eat the cock.

By the way the worst/best bit in Day of Defeat is the village with all the snipers. My personal favorite was the German shepards on the snow level running at you out of the fog. I did try to do my jedi mind trick on them but they just bit my ass to death :(.

Hehe...

Day of Defeat IS addictive, you do know that... Right?

I'm having a hard time prying the computer away from my wife after her 8th hour online playing DoD. What can I say... She's hooked big time.

*L*

oh wait Day of DeFeet. I'm such a dumbass I saw Medal of Honour for some reason. I haven't had a chance to play DOD. So it's good eh? Time to re-install half life again :)

I have not been able to get a copy of kevin's newest flick, but it is high on my task list. Dogma is one of my all time faves. It was a brilliant piece of work as with Kevin's other flicks.

And do let us know how the wife deals with you watching the girlie in undies section of the dvd. It's another point to kevin's brilliance to get you to watch everything he wants to say; just put skimpily clad women on the screen and he has got 90% of guys paying close attention to the subject matter portrayed. The other 10% just suck anyway (pun intended), so they would not be interested. =)

Ferris.... class? Training?

I haven't been able to get over the fact that everyone actually likes Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back... I thought it was a huge step down from Dogma. Instead of page upon page of hillarious & insightful dialog there was just a bunch of stupid sight gags.
Even Roger Ebert reviewed it as high as Dogma. I guess that I'm missing something. I don't see how, though, because I even liked Mallrats.
Maybe I was expecting too much out of it. The only good laugh I got out of it is when Jay was singing at the beginning of the movie outside of the Quick Stop.

As a self-professed (more-than-slightly-obsessed) "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fan, I *must* say: any film featuring Eliza Dushku gets the thumbs-up from me. ;)

Day of Defeat? What kinda moron are you, Wil? ;)Return to Castle Wolfenstein is far, far better, and far, far, far, far better looking.

Not quite sure what to say about this one, Wil. I think I'm the only guy my age who hasn't seen JSBSB. Maybe I should see it, then? :op

-james-

I knew that you were cool, Wil, but finding out that you're a Kevin Smith fanboy only makes you cooler. He's my favourite filmmaker, without a doubt, and I too spent hours watching the J&SBSB DVD. I think that you'd be great for a film of his.

I think that Dogma and J&SBSB are so radically different that it's like apples and oranges. How could a movie all about those two be anything but dick & fart jokes? While it doesn't rate as my favourite Smith film (that's Chasing Amy, despite the Betty Boop factor) I think that it was a fitting end to the whole View Askew-niverse.

JSBSB, very funny. But I was up untill 3am! HA!

I was actually laughing out loud at this flick (something I NEVER do). So loud in fact that my roommate had to tell me to "Shut-up or die a slow painful death."

The only other film to make me laugh like that recently was KUNG-POW: ENTER THE FIST.

Hmmmm....I wonder what would happen if Oedekerk and Smith teamed up to make a movie......That would be cool.

Wil, it's okay to stay up and have a hoot. Myself, I stayed up (and geeked out) until 5:30 this morning (eastern time) watching the shuttle Columbia rendezvous with the Hubble Space Telescope and retrieve it for servicing. Coolest thing I've done since I got broadband access!

That is completely weird, I spent all day yesterday watching Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back too. And as soon as it was over, I too had to watch all the deleted scenes. I am going back to school a day late because of that, but it was totally worth it.

Yeah man my buddy and I rented that last night, check out the music videos on disc two, it has stroke 9 and they r watching the videos and they fly to every video who sucks and kicks some ass.

Wil,

Definitely get the _Dogma_ Special Edition DVD. It's worth it in order to see Jay and Silent Bob do a rendition of the theme to "Fat Albert." :-)

Unfortunately, though, Kevin is not doing any more films set in the 'View Askewiverse,' as it's called ... in other words, no more films that will feature Jay and Silent Bob.

Still, the next flicks in the works are a "Fletch" remake starring Jason Lee and a very personal film called "Jersey Girl," which supposedly will derive inspiration from Kevin's experiences with fatherhood.

I love Kevin Smith films. Dogma is so awesome. J&SBSB is a great way to wrap up the View-Askewiverse. The inside jokes intended for the true fans of these films were great. I'm waiting for payday to pick up J&SBSB on dvd later this week.

PS: I couldn't believe it when I heard Kevin "Aries" Smith from Xena died. He was too young. So sad.

I'm not into the comedy movie stuff. I'm more of a drama scary movie kinda gal. And I don't have a DVD player. Poor old college student me. lol!

I went to 3 stores to get it on Friday. Two Targets, which looked at me like I had 3 eyes when I asked about the movie) and Best Buy, who were out, and as I was about to get my raincheck, brought out 2 more boxes.

I laughed my ass off - and I too watched the movie, the gag reel and the deleted scenes. I LOVE Kevin Smith - I think he's a genius. The best scene - when J&SB crash the set of "GWH2 - Hunting Season" and Matt & Ben are ripping on each other for poor movie choices. A frickin stitch. (that, and the comment "Ben Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms" had me rolling!)

And, until the deleted scenes, I didn't realize that was Kevin's wife.

SNOOTCHIE BOOTCHIES!

Vickie

I'm in Ireland.

Where are you?

To everyone who's seen JASBSB: Did you notice that, once they get to Hollywood, every time we see a clapper board, that particular movie is shooting scene 37D? Anyone know what that's about?

Kevin Smith is hilarious. He spoke here in Bloomington last fall, and he talked for about FOUR HOURS!!! (Nearly one of which was about being tricked to come up to Prince's fantasy-land-recording studio to do a documentary, where they were virtually held hostage by Prince himself, who spent hours at a time preaching to a captive audience about Jesus.) The auditorium security finally had to come and remove him from the stage because they had to close the building!

They also filmed it for one of his upcoming DVDs, so who knows, someday everyone can share the joy. (; )

Word, bitch! J&SBSB like a mofo! However, am I the only one that was a bit disturbed at how Mewes looks in the intros to the bonus stuff? *SHUDDER* Whoever told him that that facial fuzz looked good needs to take it back.

35th Post!!!

hehehehehehe

WHOO HOO! 36th Post!

Clerks.

Best. Movie. Ever.

um wil... Uncle Willy... sir...

you're complaining that you stayed up until almost 2 a.m. on a saturday night? SNL is on until 1 a.m. here, and last i knew it was a weekend and you were pushing 30, not 70! on a weekend around here it's considered weird it you don't stay up until at least 4 a.m....
but, 2 a.m. there is like 5 a.m. here, so i'll applaud you for that... i was only up until 4.

in other news...
haha, i watched "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" a little over a month ago on video :P
but now i gotta watch it on dvd...
by the way, did the boys like it?
peace, love, and bubble-gum,
Ronda LOU

post 37D am I the lucky one?

nope

Hahaha the dvd is sweet man. Kevin Smith is great, and Jason Mewes.. Mmmmm. . Yeah anyways, cool post. Never read a better one of yours. :D

Wil, What is your name on DOD? I might have played you before. I case anyone wants to know, mine is *-{Steadfast}-*FMyWu. I know it has kept me up FAR TO LATE on nights where I have a 930 class in the morning. Just dont tell me you are in a clan. Especially a camping clan. Those lousy camping @#$%#%^$. In any case.

ESpark. I have played Return to Castle Wolfenstien. It did look better, but DOD is MUCH more fun, and now that DOD 2.0 is out, I must say that I prefer it anyday.

RTCW is my fav, but I am about to try out DOD for the first time. I guess I just sort of missed that game somewhere.

"The name is boo boo kitty fuck!" I love that line- that movie is HALARIOUS! I can't wait to own it on DVD and add it to my collection. My hubby got me hooked on Kevin Smith, he's soo cool.I was rasied Catholic but am now a freelance beleiver,(I respect all religious aspects) Dogma makes so much sense to me, it's one of my faves!!!!
Love
Boo Boo.

This site is great! I was turned on to it 'cause someone on the View Askew website (http://www.viewaskew.com/newboard/index.html) reposted Wil's Jay and Silent Bob posting. I was a huge fan of yours (Wil's) when I was a kid, and I'm really glad to read here that you're doing so very well these days!! You know how when you're a kid and you're a fan of someone and you fantasize that they're just like you? Reading this website, I'm beginning to believe that I was right. :) I'll be sure to visit this website every day from now on :)

I too have succumbed to the power of DOD v2. If you have any regular servers, you should post em, or your usual name. Then I could tell my freinds, "I got shot by Wil Wheaton!"

I got shot by Wil Wheaton!

For some reason I just crack up every single time I say that.

Adem, what is your screen name? I might have played you as well.

>>Did you notice that, once they get to Hollywood, every time we see a clapper board, that particular movie is shooting scene 37D? Anyone know what that's about?

you're being facetious right?

"my girlfriend sucked 37 dicks!"

"CHASING AMY" RULES!! OK "CLERKS" was cool too.
His other films are fair..well maybe better than
fair...Fair++.

Roughy are you REALLY in Ireland? lol

"...in a row ?" =)

Hey all -

I'm calling out for help - I'm trying to get GreyMatter to work on my site. I've uploaded and configured, just as the instructions said to do, but it won't appear on my page.

Anyone who knows Greymatter, and may have some clue what I've done wrong please email me. I've posted on its website/forum, but have gotten impatient in waiting for a response.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Will-

I want to comment, but I can't really do anything but wholeheartedly agree with you about Kevin Smith and J&SBSB. Kevin is incredible, and I've been a fan of his since he filmed Mallrats in my home town way back when... His witty dialogue is the best in the biz. I can appreciate his hatred toward "mad-libbing" as his scripts are so elloquent by themselves, but the outtakes of Jon Stewart and Will Farrell are hilarious. (Although my fave is still Matt Damon talking about Chewbacca's "edited scenes" from the Star Wars SE during Dogma.)

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was fantastic. I never thought they could sustain their own movie (and Kevin even comments on it in the commentary) but they did a great job. I am a little jealous, however. It has always been my dream to go down on Princess Leia. Damn that Jay!

The J&SBSB commentary is like any Kevin Smith commentary. Jason Muse is half stoned throughout, Scott Mosier (Ex Prd) is crabby, and Kevin chooses to ramble about the things that really matter (his wife, daughter, and how annoying Ben Affleck can be.) Without a doubt, the commentary track is just as amusing as the actual film.

One last thing - Hours of Dogma and J&SB commentaries have indoctrinated into my soul that it is my duty to remind everyone that when you find yourselves in New Jersey, dont forget to stop at Jay & Silent Bob's Secret Stash - 35 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ.

I can definitely agree with you on the DVD! I personally loved the whole exchange between Jon Stewart and Will Ferrel (sp?) about the CLIT. The deleted scenes were great, but I haven't gotten to watch them all. I nearly fell out of my chair over Sean Scott and the sheep! Jud Nelson nearly made me wet my pants. The best thing about it, though, was the fact that Kevin Smith and Jason Mews introduced most of the extras and deleted scenes. The fact that they provided so many extras AND did that went beyond cool. I have a special place in my heart for film makers who kee the fans in mind when releasing stuff like this.

For the record, it was also worth paying the money I did to see it in the theaters SIX times. GOD! I LOVE Kevin Smith movies! If he is merciful, maybe he will see it in his heart to give us more than five of these.

SHUT THE FUCK UP GUL DUKAT OR I SWEAR I'LL RIP YOUR DICK OFF AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS!

And in other news...

"I'd really like to work with him, someday."

Hell Wil, you just want to work!

Will Wheaton:

I was wondering where you were.

Got nothing to say about J&SB -- Chasing Amy was good, but J&SB was a little too Jerky Brothers for me.

Anyhow, just wanted to tell you that I *always* liked Wesley Crusher. I thought you did a great job with that character, esp. given your tender age.

I didn't like what they turned Wesley into during the last few episodes -- I did like the fact that he dropped out of Star Fleet, but I think they took Wesley too far into that whole teenager/young adult 1990s grunge/angst bullshit. I expected more from young Crusher. Sure, go through the growing pains, but in a more interesting manner. He should have invented something and blown a hole in the galaxy. Something like that, something a pissed-off Stephen Hawking could do.

So you and Rick Berman aren't the best of friends, huh. Too bad -- I'd like to see Wesley Crusher return in some future spin-off. "The Traveler" with Wesley moving from planet to planet or starship or wherever. Is that word spelled with one "e" or two? Whereever. Wherever.

Whatever.

Ok, that's all. You are probably sick to crap of people rehashing TNG, sucking up three minutes of your life you will never get back.

Still, Wesley rocked, so thank you.

Deirdre

Hey Wil..
There is a cool game that you might like to try out for the pc. I was looking at it today. You can build your own theme park. Roller coasters and such! Its called Roller Coaster Tycoon! If you check out this website it will tell you more about the game. :)

http://www.rollercoastertycoon.com/

Rachael!

You weren't the only on staying up watching that last night. I finally got to bed around 2:30 AM. Smith is really hysterical, and worth every moment spent on him.

Did everyone see the 'short' he did on Leno the other night? If not, you can check it out at http://www.viewaskew.com -- it's just a quick film with Dante and Randal from Clerks stuck in traffic.

I'm just rambling now. Later!

Oh, and 37D has GOT to be someone's favorite Bra size. :)

Clay-

Bra sizes are in even numbers. I think Jodilyn was right with the 37 dicks reference. That's one of Smith's trademarks - carrying forward references (i.e., the girl drowning referenced in at least the 1st 3 movies). Good call Jodilyn!

Vickie

Being a big Kevin Smith fan myself I suggest you check out "Clerks: Uncensored", the ill fated Clerks animated series that was on ABC. It has six episodes on two DVD's, each episode with a commentary track where they talk about what they were doing, what they wanted to do and how ABC freaked out all the time on just about everything they did. They are also working on a feature length animated movie called "Clerks: Sell Out" in which Dante and Randall decide to make a black and white movie about their lives as clerks. I personally can't wait. He also wrote some comic books about the characters, check out www.viewaskew.com and browse through the stuff there, it's a pretty cool site.

"Applesauce, Bitch!" LOL

ah yes, the genius of the kevinator..he did a short movie on leno the other night with randall and dante called "the flying car" one of the funniest things i have seen on tv in ages..i believe they have a mov of it on http://www.viewaskew.com
cheers

When Jay and Silent Bob strike back came out at the cinemas I missed it! Thank god a friend has it on dvd (seems like I'm getting more from seeing the dvd anyhow).
BTW
The game is truly the king when it comes to sleep depravation is Planescape : Torment. I closed my door to start playing it on a Friday night... didn't stop till sat afternoon... scary.
Practically the only game in recent memory that actually made me THINK.

Have ridicules amounts of fun

Wil,

If you like Day of Defeat, you *must* check out World War 2 Online. the website is www.wwiionline.com. They have modeled Europe in 1/2 scale and you fight over towns in Belguim and France. It is simply awesome! I believe you can still get a 2 week free trial. You have to play with a group to get the most of out if, so if you check it out, email me and I can help you find a good group to fight with.

Wil, playing DoD is so wrong...

Halflife is what 4 years old?

C'mon get going on Return to Castle Wolfenstein!

Another long-time KS fanboy here. I've picked up the DVD and watched the movie and most of the special features, but haven't gotten to the deleted scenes or the commentary yet. The improv interview about the CLIT, though...lmao...that had me rolling.

Wil,

Oh yeah. I just recently picked up that movie to add to my collection. I laughed my proverbial ass off at that movie. And the 90 minutes of extra scenes were awesome. I kept wondering if it would ever end.

Rock,
RX

I saw the movie when it was released in the theater, and the DVD will be purchased when I have the cash.

Oh, and I have a music recommendation for you:

VNV Nation - Futureperfect

synthpop/techno from Europe. These guys put together live shows that I enjoy immensely (seen them twice now) and you can check out their site at http://vnvnation.com

Well, I would recommend all of their albums, actually, but this is the newest one and will be in stores on Tuesday, and is available for order from http://www.metropolis-records.com

Check it out, and let me know what you think!

RTCW is teh suck.. CS, DOD, Firearms is good HL mods.. HL has been through 2 quake versions and HL is still the Server leader with ooo 20,000 servers going and about 50k of people playing at any time.. yea.. half life is old, but it was WELL worth the money my wife spent on it 4 years ago when it came out.. and everyone likes Staying power..

Oh yea Wil.. Tribes 2 kicks ass too...

This is embarrassing to admit here, but I have yet to see any of Kevin Smith's movies. I want to see them bad because based on what I know of the guy, I'm pretty sure I'd really like them. But these days, I'm lucky to watch anything on the VCR or DVD that doesn't star one of Mickey Mouse's employees or Big Bird!

I have heard that Kevin Smith wants to do a take on the Fletch series by adapting the book "Fletch Won," which was the prequel book (sorta like Batman-Year One). Obviously Chevy Chase would not be Fletch in the movie, but it would be cast with a younger, smart ass type actor.

Hmmm, I wonder if a certain younger smart ass actor who has the initials W.W. and runs his own web site could fit this role...

Vickie-

You are SO correct. That's what I get for trying to post on too little sleep. :)

And I really need to start paying more attention to bras, apparently. :)

Hey Wil what name do you use when playing day of defeat? Curious if I have ever fragged err, seen you.

Although it was not as good as Dogma, Silent Bob does have its qualities...Shannon Elizabeth does compliment the movie very well, though.

Balls balls sweaty balls

Did you know that Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was his last film of the series? There will be no trilogy.

What do you mean no trilogy? There were 5 movies in the series.....what is that? A quintology?

I was totally weirded out by Kevin Smith's wife in the dvd. I mean, she is like scary skinny.

SCARY SKINNY.

And while introducing a deleted scene, she comments that she wanted to LOSE MORE WEIGHT before being in the movie.

WTF?

Methinks a poor self body image could turn into an eating disorder there.

...

...

SCARY SKINNY.

I know i'm just a philestine, but i didn't really like Jay & Silent Bob Strikes back. I thought it lacked the insite of the earlier movies. That brand of humor is funny for about 30 minutes, tops. Then i start looking for depth.

You may all hate me now.

Totally lovin' all Kevin Smith's movies (especially b/c they're placed in NJ locations).
Still have yet to see Chasing Amy (yes, I know I'm a dork for not watching it yet), but I will eventually.

Wow, and to think I finally got to see that movie just a couple of days before! Really excellent movie, and the deleted scenes (and related commentary) were a lot of fun to watch, even if it did keep my friends and I up beyond 2 a.m.!

Too bad they took out the joke that your title is in reference to... no one gets it unless they've seen the DVD... :(

did thATR PSOT EVWN SATY ANYTHIGN IT WAS POINTLESS YOU SIHT BAF I WILL KIVCK YOUR PUSSY ASS MOETHETY FUCKER DONT MAKE ME FUCKL YOU LIKE A FUCKED YOU RE ,MAOM LOST NIOGHT

POEAP

You totally aren't a philistine PumpkinKing... the Jay & Silent Bob movie WASN'T up to par with the previous offerings. But I doubt Kevin Smith was trying to do the same kind of comedy.

In the earlier movies, the Jay and Silent Bob characters were there for brief flashes of crude "pot and boobies" humour. So obviously a movie based entirely on those characters would degrade to that level.

I definitely agree with you that the sarcastic and dialogue-driven humour of the earlier movies is far superior to this one. But for fans of Kevin Smith and his universe, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back is still a must-see.

have you ever seen one of those exponentially decreasing graphs? label the x axis as follows: "Clerks," "Mallrats," "Chasing Amy," "Dogma," "Jay & Silent Bob." We all know what the y axis is. The quality and quantity of Brian Ohalloran. Oh, and the sweet, juicy nectarines of comedy that Clerks so easily dispensed, and yet the following movies refuse to dish out like so many Cadbury Creme Eggs. Hopefully, Jersey Girl and the new Clerks movie wont put me in a sex swing and do me upside down like the latest Kevin Smith movies have.

PS I LOVE DREW CURTIS WIL WHEATON'S DREW CURTIS' DOT NOT WIL WHEATIES

I bought it the day it came out and have yet to stop being enthralled with it...

Though I do find Mewes to be starting to become lsightly scary in his "old age"

Although Gods this was funny "Pimp Daddy's merchandise. Say 'buy Jay stuff'"

kevin smith should do more J&SB movies.
they are funny as 2 virgins fucking.
jason mewes. sorry, lose the peach fuzz.
it dont fit you lick Smith said.
yours truly X-tweak junky with a monky.
