The World Is New
I am under a brutal deadline at work, and I'm working on The Next Big Thing(tm) right now, so updates are going to be a little thin for a few days.
However, I would like to share a couple of spiffy mentions I've gotten this week:
First, I was mentioned in McPaper as one of the Top Ten Celebrities We'd Like To See Back On Television.
I'm guessing that G4 doesn't count just yet, since we're in a relatively small number of homes :-)
Speaking of G4, when I was at E3 last week, I did an interview for HomeLan Fed, which came out pretty well.
Finally, tonight on the JKvS Show our guest is Save Ferris! If you're in LA, it's really worth it to come and see the show. They're a great band, and we're going to have lots of fun tonight.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. I should have some good stuff next week.

Rock on Wheaton! Keep up the good work. I'd like to see you back on TV even on Enterprise. or A Sequel to DS9 if need be.

hurray!! if anyone needs to be on television more, it's wil freakin' wheaton. i'm just sayin' that dry humor from a grown up wiser funnier child star is so hot right now. (i'll thank will farrell for the delivery of that line as per zoolander) i hope to heck to make to see j. keith again! i'd love to meet other wwdn readers if anyone's going. look for the freak with the mohawk.

There is also a small picture of you in EGM magazine (a gaming magazine) this month. It was a group shot of the G4 talent.

So, I have this great idea for a sitcom with Wil Wheaton, Bea Arthur and Molly Shannon... who should I contact?

Justin,
Is there a way you can scan that pic from the magazine?!
Posted by: sweetthing | May 31, 2002 10:46 AM
TV? Kewl. I betcha it would feel like a step backwards going back on a Star Trek series. I haven't watched any of them since TNG.
Somehow Wil reminds me of more the techy, geeky type that might be better off on a TV series of the movie Office Space. Hopefully, they'd be able to get some hip writers to make it funny.
I'm still anxiously waiting for him to star in a sequel to the blockbuster film The Curse.
Posted by: Eyeno All | May 31, 2002 10:49 AM
note that alt+0153 does a great trademark™ symbol. Also, did anyone else notice the top ten only had nine listings, and that's only if you count Will Ferrell/Molly Shannon as a seperate list? And why didn't they mention Wil's great roles in The Curse and Python? I mean, "Dude, you woke me up for a snake"? come on! And who honestly wants Amy Sedaris or Margaret Cho back on TV anyway?
Oh, and go Wil. :-P
Posted by: Andy | May 31, 2002 10:49 AM
Very cool! And you were feeling unloved earlier this month.
Feel the love, Unca Willy!
Posted by: sarcastic cheese | May 31, 2002 10:57 AM
I counted the celebs.
And then I counted them again.
I only see nine, not ten.
What am I missing?
Margaret Cho, Jon Bon Jovi, Will Ferrell, Molly Shannon, Marlon Wayans, Natasha Lyonne, Amy Sedaris, Wil Wheaton, Bea Arthur.
Hello, Rick Berman...
You have your next Trek cast right there, bitch.
Posted by: Spudnuts | May 31, 2002 11:01 AM
Admiral Maude?
Fuck yeah.
Posted by: Spudnuts | May 31, 2002 11:02 AM
All hail the Web-Log King.
That's gotta be exciting, I'm talking about being mentioned with TWO of the Lawrence Brothers, of course. I bet the 3rd one is kicking himself, or some wonderful habbit.
Posted by: Chris W. | May 31, 2002 11:07 AM
Andy Said:
"And who honestly wants Amy Sedaris or Margaret Cho back on TV anyway? "
I was going to say that it must be an honor for Uncle Willie to have been mentioned in the same column as Amy Sedaris, Margaret Cho, Will Farrell and Molly Shannon . . Pretty fantastico to be considered with other such wonderful talent.

we sure could use you back on the tube wil.........
tv could do with a bit of the wheaton mojo!

Funny that Wil mentioned Save Ferris. I hadn't listened to "Everything Is Wrong" in, like, two years, and I just dug it out of my CD collection yesterday to give a listen.
Party on, Wil!
Posted by: the barking dog | May 31, 2002 11:31 AM
Wil is da bomb!
Posted by: Gabe | May 31, 2002 11:32 AM
At least you came in above Bea Arthur.
Posted by: Kristian | May 31, 2002 11:34 AM
Yay! It's always great to get validation, isn't it? Congrats. *hand shake*
[I'll offer a hug if you feel comfortable accepting it from a stranger, otherwise I'll stay the hell away from your personal space]
I agree with Matheson's assessment: "Who can take care of the geeks better than actor-turned-Weblog-king Wheaton?" But Bea Arthur?? What was she thinking?
Save Ferris sounds vaguely familiar.
Wil wrote: "If you're in LA, it's really worth it to come and see the show."
Sure, 3 days after I get BACK from my trip to LA. Thanks, Wheaton. :P
(or maybe my timing just sucks)

Glad to see you pop in- we've missed ya, Sparky!
Posted by: Toonces | May 31, 2002 11:44 AM
Wil back on TV? Yah, I could see that. Leno is getting too damn old and should be replaced. I think Wil should take over, your first guest could be Bea Arthur, then maybe WC:MIB ass-waxing badass.
Posted by: Nyarl | May 31, 2002 11:46 AM
Bah, I think that by being on G4 should count as being back on television. They just better have it coming out to MY place very soon.
And it was cool to meet you at E3, I was the guy that was at the G4 production trailers and talked to you about the forums we have over there right as you were leaving on the last day. You and Travis are a hoot together.
Hopefully we can talk G4 into getting some Arena clips on the website so people can see y'all actually doing something? :>

GOD BLESS MY CABLE COMPANY!!
Lo and behold, when I got back from work on Wednesday, I turn on my TV to find close to 80 new channels, and one of them is (wait for it)
G4!G4!G4!
My god how cool. My wife thinks I am a freak now, watching G4 for HOURS! Wil, you the man!
I would continue, but I have to go watch mmore G4!

Posted by: Internal Audience | May 31, 2002 12:50 PM
What! Some one in Philly has G4! Well, I'm just over the Ben Franklin Bridge, not that far away! When am I gonna get G4!?
anyway ...
I have to say I like just about everyone on that list. Especially WW & Bea Arthur. So has Titus officially been cancelled? If so I have to add Christopher Titus & Zack Ward to the list.
Posted by: jl | May 31, 2002 12:56 PM
Bah, the G4 site still doesn't work for Macs yet.
Boo.
You'd also think that G4 would be available in the Silicon Valley. AFAIK, it isn't.
Booooo.

Thanks for the update Sparky, erm, Wil glad to hear things are peachy in the Wheaton household. We understand that you can't update everyday because unlike us you have a life. (kidding, please don't flame me people. I know it's just me who doesn't have one. Can I buy that on Ebay too? : )
I would also like that Spudnuts™ for putting the image of Admiral Maude in my head. How am I supposed to sleep tonight?
Posted by: Gaea | May 31, 2002 01:32 PM
Sorry that should be "like to thank Spudnuts™" Maybe I should just go to bed now.

I dispise the McPaper.
I also dispise Molly Shannon. I'll be happy if I never see the Mary Katherine Gallagher sketch again for the rest of my life.

That's a great interview! Good job! I would love to see Wil do a guest appearance on Enterprise.. Hell if they can bring on Dean Stockwell as an evil baddie, why not bring back Wil! Crusher turned baddie going back in time to torment the crew, perhaps fix the messed up ending of the season finale. Ah yeah! I can see it now. Ratings baby! Maybe we should start a petition. :)
Posted by: pavlova27 | May 31, 2002 01:47 PM
Okay, now that G4 has been mentioned, I won't be off topic...
Wil, what was with the picture of you in the May 3rd issue of Entertainment Weekly?? Egad. (Sorry, no scanning capabilities here.) I almost didn't recognize you at first. I guess even young hotties have bad photos once in a while. (heh, heh, she said "young hottie...")
Hey Spudnuts, isn't it "photoshop Friday?" We need a picture of Admiral Maude...but no WC:MIB ass-waxing Bea Arthur.(Eeeuw, shivers down my spine at the thought.)
Posted by: ambeart | May 31, 2002 01:53 PM
A little help here....What do the initials WC:MIB mean? I know WC is Wesly Crusher, but whats MIB? Thank's Im new.
Posted by: redrhinox | May 31, 2002 02:14 PM
If Wil were ever to write the screenplay for a Showtime Original Movie of the Week about his life, I think the perfect title would be:
"No WC:MIB ass-waxing Bea Arthur"
I mean...it just kind of brings a tear to my eyes just thinking about it. It's ... it's just beautiful.
Obligatory on-topic comment:
The McPaper(tm) reference (no, I'm not using the escape sequence because I like how tm looks in parentheses) probably explains why the board was so logy that day. But hey: that's pretty cool. Congrats on the mention: lots of people read it, ya know.
P.S. WC:MIB = Wesley Crusher, Mint-in-Box. Long story. Gotta read the blog archives.

It's "Spudnuts wants to get the fuck out of the office cuz he's bonking and the Celtics game starts in 75 minutes" Friday.
Just imagine this picture with like... a Star Trek badge or some Vulcan ears and shit.

The people have spoken, we want Wil on another series.
Posted by: angry penguin | May 31, 2002 03:27 PM
ya know, I've been thinking about it for a while now... and I don't really think Wesley would fit in in the Star Trek universe anymore... not to say that Wil wouldn't, but that whole Traveller storyline never really excited me. A brief cameo as Wesley in the movie would be cool, but a recurring Wesley role would just seem pasted in (esp on enterprise). However a whole new series.. now there's some possibilites there. I'd just be happy with my G4.

Bea Arthur is nice and all, but what I want is Bob Denver. I need Bob Denver. On Hawaii. As a private dick. The toughest private dick this side of Sam Spade. He'll know karate. And drive a sports car. And he'll be tough. How tough you ask? Bob Denver tough.

I agree with Dave B, Star Trek wouldn't be a great return to television for Wil. How about a dramatic adventure fantasy with elements of a comical romp? I'm not talking Herc and Zena, I'm talking multi-dimensional travel, modern day and medieval setting, swords and sorcery, a civilization of shadows trying to destroy mankind...oh yeah. I could see Wil pulling it off. A regular Evil Dead meets Lord of the Rings. I think it could work as a television series, I was thinking more of a movie franchise but hey television, video games, comic book, lets go all out, who's with me? Ok, I got a bit carried away there. I think I'll go now.
Fork me, I'm done.

Be afraid, be VERY afraid. There is a drink called "Bea Arthur's Underpants." I wouldn't kid about a thing like that...
http://www.barnonedrinks.com/recipes/cocktails/b/beaarthursunderpants.html
I ran across it whilst looking for a good picture of Bea Arthur. Wait a minute. Are there any good pictures of her?
Posted by: ambeart | May 31, 2002 08:34 PM
Wil, I agree I would like to see you back on TV, but I would love to see you in more movies too! And I don't know if I read it wrong but they used the word "geek". I never saw you as a "geek" in anything that I have seen you in. And who says the role would be a "geek" maybe your character would be the drop dead gorgeous popular guy all the guys want to be and all the girls want to be with. Any away do what makes you happy!
Posted by: Shelly | May 31, 2002 08:38 PM
Wil how bout a raggae trek on the starship Ganjaprise 1701.
Starring Ziggy Marley as ensign Refer McDank and Whitney Houston as Leutenant Queefa Lajoint. With Wil Wheaton as Captain Wes Crusha.
I dunno sounded funny when I was writing it.. beer will do that to you.
Posted by: hops | May 31, 2002 09:14 PM
Dave B, you are right. Why should the TNG Trek universe have another continuing "Master of Space and Time" character when "Q" already owns that part for all eternity.
Unless Wes goes BIG BAD.
Oooooooh, yah. Wes, meet Vampire Willow.
Chew up the scenery, evil Ensign Crusher. The beast is slouching towards Jerusalem, and your time has come around at last.
I wouldn't touch Bea Arthur's Underpants with a ten foot pole. But my mouth is another matter entirely.
Posted by: Fred Fowler | May 31, 2002 10:18 PM
Hey, Wil, I had an idea for your dramatic return to network television...
How about a sitcom about the making of a science-fiction series, kind of in the vein of "NewsRadio" or "Sports Night"? It could also riff on the whole fan culture, kind of like Trekkies or GalaxyQuest. And you could be the leading man this time...only the show would also get into all the crazy hijinks behind the scenes, allowing you to show your considerable comic skill. I can just picture you (or one of your co-stars) looking at the prototype of an action figure, then holding it up and asking, "Do you think this makes my ass look big?"
Well, *I* think it'd be funny, anyway. You'd have to have some good writers, though, to make it work.
(Idea hereby placed into the public domain; I'm not going to sue if somebody steals it. But I'd be surprised if somebody else hadn't thought of it first.)

I always liked the Traveler storyline. Maybe Wesley could go back in time and visit Enterprise and really freak them all out. Or... he could be responsible for the whole Klingon forehead thing! Just my 2 cents!
Posted by: Sunidesus | June 1, 2002 12:23 AM
I just noticed that they said that both Randy Quaid and Judge Reinhold will have TV shows.
I am SO there. Judge Reinhold could make egg salad sandwiches all day and I'd watch, in rapture and contentment.
Well, so long as he smiles that sweet little-boy smile.
How old is Bea Arthur, anyway? It'd kinda suck to have the main character of a show die in the first couple episodes.

NOW you would be PERFECT for THAT show!!!
Spudnuts.."Bea Arthur has a posse" was brillant

But Wil and Bea in together in ANY combination
is VERY VERY SCARRY.

Perhaps your return to television is being prodded by the Folks at TNN. All day Sunday, TNN is playing ST:TNG episodes that featured Wesley as the central character. A "Wesley Crusher Marathon" as it were.
The writing is on the wall.
Posted by: Grim | June 2, 2002 12:06 PM
Wow... Wes day on TNN. Stumbled into it and had to see your take on it, Wil. Wes is still one of my favourite characters on TNG... well-acted and well-developed. You did a lot with Wes. I just wish I would have taped these episodes today.
I'm sure you LOVE the viewer voice comments between episodes... too much old TNN still around, I think!
BTW, watching "The Game" now, it seems to be nothing more than a reference to Ecstasy. Hmmmm... a rave on the Enterprise? Except for that flashing light Data uses to break the game's effect....

Wil,
who do we flood withletters and email to get you
back on t.v. ??
we have got to somehow get the new "Enterprise"
to somehow get Wesly Crusher to time travel into
the series!
possibly so he can get even with No.1
way before he ever comes along..

Actually, the A(wful )B(roadcasting )C(ompany) already hired Jimmy Kimmel from the (I'm not a)"Man Show"
Not really a surprise, coming as it is from the network that canceled "Sports Night," probably one of the best shows ever.

First of all, the term "McPaper" is the funniest thing I've heard in years.
Second, Wil needs to be in more MOVIES. He is entirely too cool for more
television programs, unless it is that documentary version of Howard Zinn's
"A People's History of the United States" that Ben Afflek and Matt Damon are
supposedly making. More progressives on the Silver Screen! Blow up
your TV! Burn your McPaper. Boycott McDollar's. Don't rent from Bigbrother
video! Megabucks coffee sucks! Boy, my head hurts.
