Supplies!

I turn 30 in one week. Almost to the minute, actually. I think I was born sometime around 12:30 in the afternoon. My great aunt used to tell me that being born close to noon was a good thing...so I got that going for me, which is nice.

Lots of people have emailed wondering what's going on, because my posts here have been less frequent, so I'll address that for a minute: It's summer. It's warm and beautiful outside, and I've been spending less and less time in front of the computer. This is quite the opposite of a year ago, when I was sitting here for 5 hours a day, working on the site, updating the weblog and answering emails...I guess my priorities have been reassigned, because there is really nothing in the world more important to me than hanging out with my wife these days.

Speaking of my birthday and my insanely cool wife, she had a HUGE surprise party for me on Friday night! She got all of my friends in on it, even convinced my family to come out, and totally surprised me. 100%. It was really cool.

See, she'd told me that our friend Burns was going to see James Brown, and he had an extra ticket, so he was going to take her. This left me without anything to do on Friday night, so my friend Stephanie (who introduced me to Anne) and I decided that we'd go do something, and that something ended up being going to see Save Ferris at the OC Fair.

I was all excited to leave early, get to the fair in the afternoon, and eat numerous types of food (all on-a-stick of course), ride the dangerous carnical rides (staffed by creepy dudes on work release of course), and learn many exciting facts about Emus and Ostriches (sitting in a pen right next to a stand selling Ostrich and Emu burgers...on a stick of course).

Trouble was, Stephanie told me, she couldn't leave until almost 7PM, because she was doing something really important (turns out it was setting up for my party). So I waited...played with Ferris, played Tony Hawk 3 (opened up the Cruise Ship level!) and ate some Chick-Nuggets, lamenting the fact that they were not on a stick.

Well, 7PM finally arrives, and Stephanie isn't at my house. 7:30 comes and goes, and she's still not there. Now I'm beginning to get anxious, because SF goes on at 8:30. Monique put us on the guest list, and I think it's extra rude to show up late when you're on the list.

It's 7:45 when Steph finally shows up. I run to her car, jump in, and tell her that we may need to push the speed limt just a bit so we get there on time...and she tells me that she needs to drop off an envelope at this guy's work for a friend of hers. She tells me that it's right off the freeway, so it should only take 1 minute.

So I tell her that I'm going to count once we get off the freeway...which I do. I'm approaching "50" when we pull into the parking lot. Stephanie tells me, "Run this envelope in, and give it to Terry. He should be right inside the door."

I hop out of the car, run up the stairs, and say, "I'm looking for Terry!"

Turns out there's not a Terry there, but my wife, parents, and most of my friends are, and they all yell, "SURPRISE!!!"

I was totally stunned. It was the last thing in the world I expected, and we went on to have an insanely fun night at this place. There were batting cages, lazer tag, basketball courts, video games...funny that we had a party for my 30th birthday at a place I would have loved when I was 12. This fact really sums up who I am. :)

The party was awesome. I played nearly an hour of lazer tag, learned that even though I'm left-handed, I bat much better from the right, and ate way too much cake.

The best part, though, was the feeling I had when I stopped to think for a second about how hard it is to pull off a surprise party. I know how hard it is, and it really made me feel loved by my wife and friends, because the pulled it off flawlessly.

Saturday was spent doing a bunch of nothing, and yesterday Anne and I took Ferris to the Dog Beach in Orange County. If you live with an hour of this place and you have a dog, you just gotta go. It was really, really fun.

One last word on updates, and the frequency of them: I'm writing this from work, because my computer at home completely blew up this morning. Smoke and everything. So until I replace it, we may all have to spend even more time outdoors...which isn't such a bad thing, really. :)

"ate way too much cake"

On a stick?
;-)

Aww, that sounds pretty awesome. They really had you fooled too, makes it all the better. Glad you had a good weekend.

Peace

Happy 30th for this week.
being 30 is way cool- old enough to know what you're doing and young enuff to enjoy it.
Cheers Wil
Shaun

What is this "outside" of which you speak...?

Now *that's* a great way to celebrate turning 30. Not so painful after all, eh?

I hope you get to go eat something on a stick, soon, though. There's probably a place at the mall, staffed by people in funky hats. They're frightening, but if you don't look too hard, you can buy a corndog and not have nightmares later ;)

Sorry to hear about your computer. Glad to hear that you had a great birthday party, and a surprise to boot.

Mmmmm, cake.

It's all about the cake and the par-tay.

Wait, that's really cool. A friend of mine's turning, like, 31 this week.

Of course, I miscounted and thought it was 30.

She'd be flattered, I'm sure.

But hey, TV's Wil Wheaton is only a year younger.

That can't be depressing.

Mmmm, cake.

Wow the big 30. Whatever you do don't watch the Queer as Folk show about turning 30. I turn 25 this year and am still freaked out about those big even life point numbers.

Wil you're left handed too, cool:). They say that left handed people are good at math, that holds true for me, what about you?
I tried to pull off a surprise party for my Mom once and it was ruined at 9pm thae night before when she was talking to her friend and her friend asked her how was the party. So I know how hard it is to pull off the hardest part being keeping it a surprise, of course. So kudos to your super kool wife and everyone else involved for pulling it off flawlessly.

That is just too! cute Wheaton.
All your monkey boxers have been making up B'day songs for you, thinking of what to get you and all that , "wish you the best crap."
They F'n worked hard and in one fell swoop, it's all for nothing 'cause you already celebarated.
Thank goodness I can stop payment on that birthday present check.
Happy birthday Wil.
On a stick.
Danko

Wil, that sounded like a great time! If 30 is gonna be that cool, what about 40? :)

Happy early birthday, Wil!

The OC Fair's got a good lineup this year - will you be taking in any of the other shows?

Pics! Where are the party pics?!
Someone must have had a digital camera!

Wil, you are truely blessed to have such a wonderful wife and wonderful friends.

Enjoy your summer.

Wil we are ALL still 12 years old!

Why do you think we all come here again and again?

To hang out at the clubhouse!

(.sniff..the Monkeyboxers shoulda been 'vited!!)

Happy Birthday for the appropriate day whichever one it turns out to be, sorry my math(s) isn't very good. You offer hope to all those of us who see 30 yrs old as a a long way away but still to close for comfort.
I hope when i am 30 and my joints begin to creek and my WWDN T-shirt and mug are both faded and stained with a decade of salsa dip and cheap beer, I can still play Video games and air hockey without heeding the disapproving, burning gaze of my peers that are drilling holes into the side of my skull, whilst at the same time enjoying the company of scantily clad college netball players. Ahh to dream.
Only time will tell.
Enjoy the day Mr Wheaton

HAPPY B DAY WIL!(what ever that means anymore)

Your feeling younger every year...

I'm not sure about lefties being better after math, but I'm a righty and I'm pretty good. It actually surprised me to hear you say you were a lefty, Wil, because I like to think that you and I think very similarly. Maybe it doesn't make any difference at all.

Happy Birthday Wil! Wish I could've seen the look on your face =D

Uncle Willie Happy B-Day!!!!!! We just had a suprise b-day party for my aunt Saturday. Hope you have a great week Wil. Just remember, your not 30 years old your thirty years young! :)

Happy Birthday. Yay for good eats!

Jess

So who among the Wil fandom knows the joke behind the title of this post? Wil, I can't believe you left them all hangin' man? And on you birthday?!!?!?!? ;)

Hey Unca Willie,

I'm happy to hear that you had a Bitchen time Friday for your Birthday. Sounded like a good way to top off at 30. (Oooo that didn't sound good.)

I'm still freaking out because you missed Save Ferris. Damn, why don't they come out this way? Oh yeah, I live in HELL!!!!!

I'll be okay.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!

Wil,

Speaking of posts, I am glad to see a new one from you. Happy birthday Wil I hope you thouroughly enjoy your day. I am so saddned to hear of the fate of your computer. I so look foreward everyday to comming here and seeing a new post. It now appears that I will have to wait 3-4 days in-between your posts. I guess I can hold out. In the meantime have a good 30th b-day I know I'm heading for 31 this year so I know what your feeling. In the meantime I'll spend time inside (don't care much for the summer heat)and you run out and buy that much needed new PC so you can get to posting when you not spending time with the family. Which above all else is most important. Happy Birthday Wil and make one of those gifts a new PC. Until your next post(which I will be hanging on for).

MATT.................................

Dude! Very cool!!

So Left Handed huh!!! Me too- you know what they say- " Lefties do our way-and better!!!!

;p

Once you turn 30 it's all downhill dude.

You know Wil I can tell you used to be a really cool guy when you were young.

Happy birthday! I love food on a stick. mmmm Corn dog's. Good luck with your computer. I know how it's like to loose all your file's like that. It sucks!!!!!!

Am I really the only person that caught Wil's movie reference with today's weblog title of "SUPPLIES"?

Kudos Wil on referencing the Weird Al classic "UHF".

Happy Birthday next week. Welcome to the 30's. Don't believe the skeptics. It's all UPHILL from this point.

happy birthday! happy birthday!
whoppy do! whoppy do!
open up the presents! open up the presents!
Just for you! just for you!

I'm a lefty too... apparently we die sooner.

Hmmph. At least I'm a woman.

Happy birthday Wil, may you have many more happy ones.

redhaiku

This is exactly how we celebrated my husband's 32nd birthday - or nearly anyway. :-) I rented the local arcade for two hours after closing - it was across from the movie theatre so I just told him we were hitting the flicks. He spotted friends of our sitting in the arcade and said, "Isn't that Shayna and Marshall? Let's just go and say hello..." so we did - and then he turned to walk back to the movies when folks jumped out and yelled "Surprise" and the light dawned and a wonderful time was had by all. :-)

Happy birthday, Wil!

Happy Birthday Wil. :) I'm sending healing thoughts to your computer, so turn it on and see if it's working! (Of course my "healing thoughts" have never worked before, so you might want to keep a fire extinguisher handy.)

I always thought you must be left-handed; it's the way your mouth goes when you do wry smiles and things.
Enjoy your last week of twentysomethingdom. I am 25 in a few months. A quarter of a century? That is scary.
And we *must* see pictures of the party! (BTW, when is the Gallery returning?)

LMAO @ SUPPLIES!
good one. 30 is great- I finally feel I have my shit reasonably accumulated. You will enjoy it. Your wife rocks! I am also married to a man whose wife rocks! So I know it when I see it.

Happy Birthday Wil- Be 12- enjoy.
on a stick-

Dammit, I own and love UHF, and I can't remember where the hell "Supplies" comes in, outside of the whole Michael-Richards-as-a-bumbling-janitor thing.

I'm so confused. Time to break out the tape...

Happy Birthday, mate!

Outdoors? No, there's no such thing! *holds hands to ears* lalalalalalalalala...

Hey if you need food on a stick why not drive up to Fried Dough On A Stick In A Bag With Syrup, and get a Fried Dough On A Stick In A Bag With Syrup. I can't remember exactly where it is, all I know is it is somewhere between San Fransisco and Canada. :)

HAPPY 30th!, I remember when I turned 30, god that was long ago (not to long ago, but far enough)...sniffle, to be young again...Hope you have a great day. Let us know what you get for your birthday! Just kidding, I don't want to know about you and the wife doing the wild thing and how the bed and the curtains need replacing, not to meantion the paint needing to be re-done cause you two peeled it off the walls!! So leave that part out! ROTF, anyway have a happy birthday.
If I find your site again, (oh duh I guess I could toss it up into my favorites, Sweet it worked.) I'll see if you posted anything to this, betcha don't...Yes that was a challenge....lol

later guy!
Tye

Remember one thing, your only as old as you feel and as young as the spouse makes you. (Don't ask, it sounded good when I wrote it.)

Captain of the Enterprise! Sir!

Happy Birthday, dude... join the club (gasp! A lot of us Gen X-er's are hitting 30!)

Anyway, I would totally recommend a new AMD ATHLON XP to spank away that old fired-up (sorry) computer of yours. Get a GeForce 4 then play Grand Theft Auto 3 (much better then on the PS2!)

I envy your party..... hmmm.. now I'm hungry.

"Let them eat cake!" - Marie Antoinette-prior to her beheading.

Wil,
Happy B-DAY next week. Sounded like a great party. Enjoy the great outdoors and get a fire extinguisher for that computer. It wants a vacation too.

F.G.

I didn't get "Supplies" at first either, but once someone mentioned UHF I totally cracked up.

KJB: It's just after the Rambo-esque scene, when the bad guys have the Weird Al and Michael Richards characters, and you think all is lost.... and then there is a noise from the Supply closet.

The bad guy opens the door and the Japanese cooks from "Wheel of Fish" jump out and shout "SUPPLIES!" and go on to summarily kick some bad guy butt.

"Surprise" --> stupid fake accent --> "sulplise" --> "supplies"

Get it? Ha ha.... well, you had to be there.

Well, Happy Birthday Wil!

It seems incredible to me that you are so young! Not only are you way, way younger than me; you're actually closer to my grandkid's ages than my grown "children".

It seems I've been a major fan of yours forever. TNG was, and remains my favorite TV series of all time. And your work there was incredible; simply incredible.

And I've even followed your lead and have built my first "real" website on the hosting service provided by the guys at logjamming.

So, Happy Birthday again! And thanks so much for your hard work, for the many hours of entertainment you've provided to me and my family, and for the good example you set for all of us - even us older dudes.

And many happy returns!

Oh, btw, you're developing into one hell of a good author. If you ever collect some of your posts here and publish them as a book, there's lots of us ready to buy it.

I'm eagerly waiting for the party pics to be posted! Wow, do I wish there was a digital camera to see your face. By the way, where did the party take place?

Of course, just as I join WWDN, you lose interest in this place. Story of my life. *sigh*

That has got to be one of the coolest surprise parties I have heard of! Your wife is a true master to pull off such a grand plan with complete and total success! That sounds like so much fun!

Best Birthday Wishes

A lost and bewildered Baboons cousin

:p

Happy B-day Wil!

I'm glad you had a good day.

and roscoe is right you are a good author and many of us here eagerly await your book.

Happyyyyyyyyyyyyy Bdayyyyyyyyyyyyy

The big 3-0! I've got just under 3 months until my big 3-0. Congrats!

That's awesome about taking extra time at the beach, with the fam, whatever. I'm expecting a surprise party this year ... because my wife NEVER throws one for me, so there's no way she'll get me.

Again, congrats ... share the experience of turning 30 with those of us that are nearing the crest of that hill.

OOHHHH.

Thank you, Da Schmiz. You're a lifesaver.

Gedde Watanabe ROCKS.

Happy Birthday!! It's ok if you post less, you're livin life.

I don't think that you should ever feel a slave to your blog, or your e-mails. It's nice to be grateful for fans and people who read you... but a blog is something you should write because you want to, not because other people want you to.

Have a happy summer. :)

30? Amazing! I'm 36 and I thought you were younger! Oh, well, I'm 4'8" so I look young myself! I hope you had a great birthday, and I can't wait to see you in the last Star Trek & Jane White is Sick & Twisted! I hope you're at the beginning of a long and happy career!

Happy Birthday, Wil

So uhm.... you missed Save Ferris... :/

Yeah, I know that's not a big deal compared to the party... I guess... but it stuck in my mind throughout the story. :P

Whoa.. totally forgot Uncle Willie's Bday and mine are only 2 days a part... (27th and 29th)
It seems I forgot soo much at 14 years of age (whole school years even).
Which *cringe* will be a decade ago this Saturday.

Happy Birthday!

Hi Wil,

I remember with quiet, glowing joy those summers of my youth, when we got an almost three month vacation. Now we complain when you take a few days to enjoy the same type of beautiful summer. It must be because we enjoy and love your words and cannot get enough of them. But, please, enjoy your summer and your family, talk to us once in a while and have a happy birthday.
John

My brother always said "Left handed people are in their right mind!" Have a great birthday, hopefully outside.

Any giant dead squid on the Dog Beach? Little dead squid? Grunion? 36-24-36 w/Borzoi?

Geeze you have a life that dosn't include us???? ha,ha. honestly happy birthday and good luck in the next year

Wil I hope you have a great birthday, and I'm glad the party went well.

Happy-Happy Birthday, Wil!

Wow, that must've been an awesome par-tay. Kudos to Anne & The Gang. :]

And enjoy that fresh air!

Hey, happy birthday! It sounds like you have a really cool wife!

Happy birdle turdle toodle yoodle doodle

Dear Will on-a-stick
Happy birdle turdle toodle yoodle doodle

...and mannnnyyyy mooooore...

Glad to hear you had a cool surprise fete - enjoy being thirty, the 30s are a very interesting time! But I have to ask, was Monique mad about you standing her up on the guest list?

Oh my God so sorry I spelled your name with the extra "l". Where is my mind?

30! wow wil i can hardly believe it! Gordie Lachance is all grown up!

hey, this is the first time i ever came here to this site, my friend gave me the link to this article specifically. cause he thought it was interesting that we have the same birthday, i think it is too. :^) i think i'll be coming back more often.

someone posted a while ago that a Goonie's to is due to come out in 2003 with Corey Feldman and Samantha Mathis, are you sure about this?

It was a great party. That wife of yours sure knows how to throw a surprise. I'm just saying that as much fun as the LazerTag was, maybe we *all* should've gone to see James Brown. Or Save Ferris. Or, wouldn't it be great if Save Ferris opened for James Brown? Now that'd be a show.

You may have been born near noon, but on my death bed I will receive total enlightenment. So I got that going for me.

Happy Birfday, Wil :) Does this mean Picard is too old to command the Enterprise and Wesley can take over? *gods, I watch too much ST:TNG* And you know what they say about left handed people --- serious psychic talent or potential. Not to sound critical, but you should try meditation or something on that level as a new challenge. Who knows, maybe you'll become a spirit "Traveller" (Get it? *ducks* That Traveller character was so cool)

... and remember, in T-minus ten years, you too can have a midlife crisis!

Happy Birthday Wil!

Apparently, people noticed UHF references, but am I the only person who noticed the Caddyshack quote?

"So I got that going for me, which is nice."

The Dalai...Lama...himself. I, too, will receive total consciousness.

also the phrase "I'm looking for Terry" was featured several times in a Chuck DeBus movie.

Wait! I just realized...Wil, whatever happened during you Alaskan Trekcruise? Did people watch Mr Stitch? Did they like it? How was it?

Now that those questions have been asked...I'm glad you had such a great birthday party. We'll want to see photos of your shocked face when you walked in. :)

No way! My birthday is on the same day as Wil's. Weirder still, I was born at about the same time. Of course I was born in a completely different year, (1981) when Prince Charles and Princess Diana got married. Neat website though, Wil. Longtime reader, just found out your birthday is the same as mine.

LEFT handed.... ROFL, how appropriate!!

of course we noticed the caddyshack reference... great line.

anyway. i am going on vacation and will have no computer access for the next two weeks, so the following is really coming to you from a week into the future: happy birthday...

though... 30... scary.

Wow, Wil Wheaton at 30! I think that's when my life started to completely fall apart.

Just kidding...I think it's great you had a fun surprise B-Day bash!

Don't blame ya for enjoying the great outdoors too. It's important to enjoy real life every once in awhile. The CA weather has been incredibly beautiful lately!!!

Doncha love fairs? I finally got to see my all time favorite Rocker Chick growing up Pat Benatar. Damn, can that woman still rock!

Wil!

7/29/1972 was a saturday...(excel date 26509)
and this 7/29/2002 you will be
10,957 days old!

but I'm sure you don't feel a day over
10,000

the BIG 30! I turn the BIG 40,
Wednesday 7/24

also, in checking your bio, I find that my brother
works for a guy named "Prince" what a small world.

what's going on the auction block to get that new
PC? what does Wil have thats worth that much? and
that one of his fans would lay out the big bucks
for????

enjoy your birthday Wil, I'm going to Dennys for mine! :)

mmmmmmm dennys............slobber slobber drool drool...........

Damn,
Weird Al is going to be at the OC Fair! And I'm missing it!
Rats.
Just in case I don't get a chance, Wil...
Have a great birthday!

But dude, did you get to see Save Ferris? I mean, happy birthday and all. But seriously, if Monique guest-listed my pasty white ass...man, wild horses and floods of locusts wouldn't keep me from that show.

Of course I live on the East Coast, and the last ska band that played Philadelphia was....Um...Well...I was like 20 the last time there was an honest-to-god ska show in Philly. So it's been a couple of years.

I'm going back to listening to Good Riddance. East Coast Punk still owns you.

Look, mate, stop apologising!

You've got a life, and it's cool, so enjoy it - we'll just sit here, refreshing your page, until something new comes up.

wil: so you're turning thirty...it's really not so bad...and besides that's only 22 in t.v. years!...d.burr

Happy Birthday, Wil! :) I turned 30 on May 7th, and I totally dreaded it. This weekend, I joined a gym, and filling out the application was the first time I actually had to write my age down. It was so sad... Anyway, Wil, I hope you're not upset about turning 30. As long as your life is going well, you're healthy, you have a great person to love, and who loves you, and you're doing what you want with your career, then you have nothing to worry about. Age really is just a number, but it's the number that reminds you of the passage of time. In my own life, I have the best husband in the world, I quite like my house (it's not huge but we've worked a lot on it, so it's nice), I have a great family... but, I work too much and my band isn't exactly where I'd like it to be, so 30 was a bit hard for me. Hey, wanna make me happy? Support my band! ;) Actually, I would love it if everyone- that means you, too, Wil!- would stop by our website: www.thewagband.com. It would just make my day! :) Once again, Wil, have a wonderful birthday. I had a surprise party, too- aren't they fun?
Love, Alicia

Dear will,
birthday sentiment, outrageous comic remark, cheezy grin, excessive projection of future happiness, swirly card writing and o's and x's at the bottom.
In otherwords.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Hey Wil, you share a 30th birthday this year with Pioneer 10. Cool! It is still functioning too!

Enjoy, it only comes once.

30 is young, so young. I wish I could look forward to turning 30 agian. Ah well, you are only as old as you feel, so that makes me 18.

Get an Athlon XP and a GeForce4. Can't go wrong.

The best is yet to come, really.

Wil,

Enjoy the big 3-0 - I know I did:

http://www.jasonbock.net/turning30.html

Drinking good German beer with family and friends is the best way to do it :)

Regards,

Jason

Happy Birthday to Wil. I knew you were twisted, but I never knew you were sinister. I don't know if you golf, but if you do, you might find you golf better from a right-handed position too.

Way up near the top of comments, someone asked wil if he's good at math because he's a lefty. I think you have to go deep into the archives, but somewhere in there you will find the answer is a resounding "NO!". It's way back there, when he's talking about going to college and his SAT scores suggesting that his English skills were excellent, but his math skills were bordering on worrisome. Anyway, you know, we can't all be geniuses. Or Geniui? or Genesis?
My dad is a lefty and couldn't get through algebra, my son is a lefty and taking geometry in 6th grade honors math. Rather than saying that lefties are better with math, it is more true to say that many mathematically gifted people are left handed.

Dammit, you ARE younger than me.

I've been 30 for a month and a half now, and I think I can assure you that you have nothing to fear.

Just be prepared to take a few more naps...

jw

I hate to break it to you, but your great aunt was wrong. You see, you are born in the year of the horse, and at about noon, horses are hard at work in the field. What this means for you is that you're most likely going to have to work hard and toil for most of your life. The best time to be born for a horse is right before or at sunrise, this is the time that most work horses get fed, and that signifies that no matter what happens you will never go hungry. (Funny flash of that scence in Gone with the Wind being played by a horse..."With God as my witness...nay...I will never go hungry again."

You're a lefty! I always knew there was a reason I liked you. :-)

And he's not a horse -- 1966 is horse, not 1972. Ask me how I know, said the 36-year old woman ...

Re: the computer meltdown: Check out Overstock.com, Wil. (No, I don't work for them!) I got a great deal on a refurbished laptop for my husband for an anniversary present. They have manufacturer's overstocks. For the price, you can always upgrade later. Just a thought!

Wil:
So glad you could party with all your family and friends and start the week of birthday celebration out right! Of course all I'm gonna be thinking of on 7/29 is that I'll be turning 40 on 8/29. Don't believe them when they say it's all downhill, 'cause it's not. Like you said, you can still enjoy feeling like a 12-year-old. . . .it is all in how old you feel.

May I suggest Tiger Direct as another place to look for refurbished 'puters. They actually have some pretty good stuff.

You RAWK my brother! Keep on setting the pace for us other monkeys. Happy B-day in advance. . .may at least one of your wishes come true this week.

David/Ahud

Happy Birthday Wil! It's good to know that there are lefties out there in the world of acting. By the way I never thought you or Wesley were geeks. Happy Birthday again.
Best of luck,
Sunny

Turning 30, eh?

Renew! Renew!

30s (so far) isn't bad at all. Less awkward than the 20s were, less bald than the 40s are going to be...

i have been dropping in from time to time to see what's up with wil wheaton this week...your awesome sounding surprise party sounds great and it sounds like you have a wonderful wife and kids, they do cool things for you...etc...etc...but, uh, fans like pictures dude. you couldn't click your little "upload file" button in movabletype and squeeze in a pic of you enjoying said festivities? i don't have the sheer luck of living in such a fabulous place as hollywood is, big man, so i don't have the pleasure of seeing your mug up on stage in real-live-person.

i refuse to purchase little carboard "wesley crusher" board game peices to be a little closer to your star, my friend, but i love your blog stuff. so i would never presume to demand pictures from a cheap camera that i am sure you can now afford with your legions of newly-aquainted fans and your riding of the new "wave of poularity" that these said legions of internet fans have abundantly bestowed upon you.

never would i. you bare your soul but not your face, personaly, i don't get it. as a fan of your work, i just want to say...

your blog lacks photos of your everyday life. it would have been the perfect touch for the surprise party post. it was such a good story.

you still rock, though.

thank you for your time.

30? My god I feel old now, I remember having the biggest thing for Mr. Crusher when i was 'bout 12 and he didn't seem all that unatainable then so obviously this means I am an old fart now as well. :P Of course I also had a huge crush on Picard and didn't see him as unatainable either so maybe I'm just warped and still have my youth.

I agree. You should take complete advantage of good weather conditions. Its about 10 degress down here in the South Pacific. Its freezing and muggy. How I envy you all under the sun.

Happy Birthday Wil! Glad the surprise party went off so well for you.

Wonder how many folks got the UHF reference. Or maybe I'm imagining it myself.

wil: don't feel bad if you can't update the blog everyday...your pesky chorus of bloggers will comment anyway...just imagine all of us following you around...everywhere you go...commenting about the stuff you don't have time to put in the blog...praising, celebrating or cursing your every move...wait...don't imagine that!...that's sounds like hell!...or a really twisted new t.v. series!...i must not be getting out enough...or maybe it's just the barometric pressure squeezin' my mind...d. burr

My friend and neighbor turned 30 a couple of weeks ago, and we started celebrating Thursday evening and didn't stop until Saturday night.

Embrace your 30-ness! These days, 30's still barely starting out! I hope these last days in the "countdown" give you time to plan even more fun and hijinks to start your Big Day with a bang.

On the subject of fair food.... there's one carnival staple that does not, and should not come on a stick: FUNNEL CAKES!!! (Or elephant ears... whichever is your local delicacy!)

The big thirty. Holy cow. Little Gordo is thirty. Good thing you've been busy and they threw you that party or we'd all be wiping our eyes and crying like little girls while reading your goings-on about getting old and missing the past and all that crap you used to throw at us. =) Glad life is treating you well, man. May you and your family have many more great years.

Isn't it fun finding your inner child...even when it's usually on the outside anyway? I find it quite amusing.

Oh and Happy 30th Birthday Wil! 3 decades on this planet, its gonna be a great day for you. Sorry to hear about the computer at home. But make the most of your time outside!

WHAT! spending less time in front of the computer
and more time with wife, family and friends!
how dare you.. and after all that your fans have done for you...

well, that's ok I guess.. anything to get more
of the great stories we all look forward to!

it's not the quantity, it's the quality!!
(a saying used for some many, ah... situations)

for the past 15 years, I've been working 7 days
straight.. (long story) only now am I taking it
easy.. but have forgot, What's a life???!

adious!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WIL!!!!
i really want to send to you a Simpsons e-card, but I can't find them!
Suprise partys are graet!!!!!!!!!

Happy 30th Wil!! Sounds like it was a great party. I turn 30 myself in 2 weeks and I can't even get my best friend to pick a time to go have a beer with me. hmmpf. Anyhoo, Happy Birthday and here's to many more! *cheers*

mmmmmn.

Cheesecake ice cream covered in M&M's and Peanut Butter. Heaven on earth.

Nani desu ka!!!

No Spuds comments?

Geesh, Wil gives him the big post props and then he decides he's too good to post.

Also I've just been informed that my birthday detail will include scantily clad men and women, booze, and a birthday spanking on Outland's (Bar and Club) S&M stage.

Heh...

Gulp

meeep!

I hope your anut is right-I was born @ 11:55 AM. On New Year's eve too-I get the impression my father was giving my mom 12 hours to deliver or he would order a ceasarian (to ensure he got his tax deduction for the year).

congrats on the party, it sounds like a blast, but at the same time the thouught of missing SF is brutal since I heard it was an amazing show!

30. Right. I think 10 is a pretty good age, myself--big enough to do things that are fun, but puberty hasn't quite hit yet to screw up one's life with stray hormones. In any case, the party sounds awesome. (And whoever mentioned this--not all left-handed people are good at math, unless perhaps it's calculating Thac0. I'm a southpaw and can barely balance my checkbook.) Well. Happy birthday. :)

happy birthday, wil.

some time when u r not celebrating yours i will tell you about mine.

"...and ate some Chick-Nuggets, lamenting the fact that they were not on a stick."

Now *that* is funny!

meanwhile, go back outside and eat something on a stick.

HAVE A KICK ASS BIRTHDAY WILL!

Someday I'm gonna look back at this and laugh.

But right now..

I couldn't be more shocked if I was sitting in an electric chair in Texas.

Wil I don't know if you've ever recieved wierd presents for your birthday.. but the one I just got beats even the stuffed pink Lion from my friend Perry.

My mother bought me a bird.
Mind you I have 3 dogs already- two of them under a year old.
And I'm moving soon...

All I wanted were Guitar lessons for my Fender.
It was rather simple even.

My mother didn't get it.

A bird.

The urge to teach it naughty things to call my mum is ever so mounting...

the universe is an evil place and the jokes are being written by some demon dog under Leno

Happy birthday :) hope you have a grate day lots of beer and stuff.

Happy Birthday this week! Ann is the coolest.

"Supplies!!!"

Nice UHF reference.

Gee, I think I knew Wil was a lefty since I saw Wesley reconfigure the tractor emitter in episode 2... Hafta go back and see for sure now.

But a lefty who bats right? Me too. I think the only way my grandpa knew how to teach me to swing was righty, so I too am a funny sometimes-left sometimes-right kind of guy. Almost always get a hit, too, thanks Gramps. :)

Welcome to the Dark Side of 30, young Jedi.

Hey WIl, I just turned thirty in March, I am actually shocked that I am older than you are... god how time flies.....

Cool! Glad you enjoyed it. I've never had a surprise party. Nobody even celebrated my last birthday. In fact, my family was ultra-rude to me on my last birthday. Glad that your family is treating you well. Mmm.. cake sounds good. :-)
I remember lastertag from when I was younger!
Ack? blew up? Power surge? Lightning storm fried the modem in my server a few days ago. The storm also killed some power lines so I lost electricity for most of the day. Not fun bc my water is on a pump system that needs electricity to run. So, no electricity, no water, no food, couldn't leave bc my roads aren't paved and they were way too muddy to make it anywhere.. Sucked entirely. Although I'm glad I'm not in Guam anymore after what happened there.
luv,
-Su

I will continue to post this with every geo-caching entry I see damnit:

Geocaching + Poison (anything) = bad

Poison-oak'd schwantz and various other body parts == very bad.

I hate caching for geos.

Happy birthday Wil...my birthday's July 28th. Figures that you are a Leo! Being that you write so beautifully and act ...have a good one.

Supplies!!! Lovin' it.

Happy Birthday Wil!

Whoo Hoo, here comes the Sandman!

(have a great birthday, you're so lucky to have such a cool life.)

Happy 30th Birthday! I'll be turning 30 myself on August 14th. I don't know if I should hide and take a long trip up the California Coastline or just take it as a normal day and get all the reaming for being 30 from my friends and family. *hehe*

Wil,
So. . .one of your wishes did come true. I can't figure out what is jazzing you more: the new 'puter, the jersey, or the Death Star. Enjoy, and happy happy to Unca Willie. . .you deserve it.

Ahud

Happy 30th Birthday, Wil! In honor of your birthday, I went back and re-read the archives, which are quite addictive reading. I visit your site off and on and I had missed quite a bit. I don't know if you normally kept a diary before this, but you have a remarkable history of the last year and I feel privileged that you let us have a peek inside your life.

I hope you intend to keep up the acting. I've enjoyed your work and was pleased to see you as you popped up in the Outer Limits, The Invisible Man, Twice in a Lifetime and in that movie Mr. Stitch, to name a few things. All different characters. When you ran off to be a tech guy, I was actually concerned that the people who couldn't separate Wil the actor from Wesley the character had driven you out of the business. But, as I've heard from many actors, you act because you have to. There isn't a choice. Glad you made it back.

Again, Happy Birthday and enjoy that wonderful family of yours.

Wil,

This is my second post on this topic. Your story of playing laser tag, and enjoying a party in a place that is for kids got me thinking that I might want to do that for my birthday. I will be 31 this year and I think that sounds like a blast to feel 12 again. Happy Birthday Wil "Surley the best of times"

QUICK!!

(we are ALL having Wil-drawal!)

WELL DUH!!Just read the 'Box and "someone" did!!

Congrats Wil..HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I thought my sister & I were the only weirdos about food on sticks! We go to 2 fairs every year together, and for the couple weeks before hand all we do is talk about food on sticks. "My arm hurts" "you know what will fix that?" "what?" "food on a stick". Finally, someone else who understands the joy of food on a stick!

cheers, Wil!

I really prefer the Cup o' Pizza, myself.

what about "taco in a bag"?...even messier than taco in a shell!

i gotta say, 30 rocks. I'm 32. man i've had more fun since i turned 30 than i did all through my high school and college years.

Wil-

One thing to say about the computer-- GET A MAC!! It would never dare blow up (unless you spilled something on it)!\

Jeff

Wil siting 6:58 Entertainment Tonight.
Photo, caption about Wil is 30, voiceover tease
was something about "who gave ashley judd her
first onscreen kiss?"
After spending all day on the site, it was
somehow significant that he's on TV as well.
Just thought i'd mention it.

If you like the cup-o-pizza, you gotta try hamburger on a stick! Check girl scouts site for recipe.
