Hey Wil I've got a buck, can you do my answering machine message?
Posted by: Joe | September 10, 2002 9:13 AM
Now I'm sure you're a True Geek. Userfriendly is an extremely cool site, and you've been mentioned (lampooned, skewered, roasted, honored, and paid homage to) twice in a week, which will never happen to most of us.
Congrats.

That is pure gold.
Gold Jerry, gold.

I think they made you fat -- but hey they know you still out there. I know we aren't suppose to write about other things but I'm so happy I have to tell someone-- My 7 year old with autism put his socks on all by himself today for the first time. Just think maybe he will be able to fully dress himself someday.

If you can't match that, don't even ask... =]

It's funny and an honor that he gets toasted in Userfriendly about a cash crunch, obviously they haven't seen the checks roll in from Wil's advertising revenue. [grin]
Sorry I'm just adding to the flame Wil day, my bad.
Peace.

Being a computer geek myself, I play just about any decent game I can get my hands on, though I tend to go more for RPGs like Arcanum or Baldur's Gate than the Trek games. Doesn't matter that much to me who the voice actors are, I never read the credits anyway. But hey, whatever works.
Oh, for non-geeks, code is what makes your software run, whether its a game or not. :)

Good, good humor. It's nice to see you in a cartoon I read regularly. Even if it is lampooning you.

HA! You were expecting a camwhore wishlist, weren't you?
Well, you won't find any of that stuff here.
This is my wishlist for life. Everyone should make one, and check it from time to time, and see if you're living your life, or just existing.
Climb a tall mountain
Raft the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon
Write a book
Inspire someone to do something Great
Host Talk Soup
Be interviewed for The Onion A/V Club
Do a voice in a computer game
Do a voice on The Simpsons
Make you think
More to come...

Oh, honey, it's brilliant.
And I don't think it's mean. Okay, maybe a tad, but it's still funny.
He did make you look fat, but your even sexier now then when you were on that starship...er..thingy....show....with the guy in the beard....and the one with the guy who spoke in English accent. Can't remember the name, but I think it had to do with something about finding Rick Berman's spine.
To all the straight boys I loved...

This kind of exposure reminds me of that later Seinfeld episode where George reveals that his technique for getting more dates is to simply hang around long enough until he's like a familiar old jingle "Co...STANza!" (Just kidding)
Any exposure is good exposure. If you're familiar enough to at least be the punch line in a good-natured joke, that's obviously a good sign.
btw, are you starting to look more like Dangerfield now that you've passed 30?
Posted by: synchronicity | September 10, 2002 10:20 AM
that was downright amusing.
wil, kudos to your self-deprecation.
the cartoon was a refreshing break from your consistenly good writing.

if, in fact, it really WAS a bus to beelzebub, i think they would have gotten the character rendering just a tad bit more on the correct side. i've met wil. he looks NOTHING like bill gates. not even a little.
Posted by: christy | September 10, 2002 11:04 AM
Okay, this is only on-topic because it's another reference to Wil - does anyone know about "Speechless"? Here's the link where I read about it: http://people.aol.com/people/special/0,11859,179788,00.html (you'll have to search for "wheaton")

The cartoonist in question is obviously a member or lurker on WWDN. So far we know that he's Canadian, and he likes to draw. More clues as they surface, he can't elude us forever...

Illiad is whacked! Really! To think he would only offer $0.76 cents and a bus transfer for you to do voice over work is just so arroga- hey Will? Where are you going and what's with the Lavoris? ; )
Posted by: tskll | September 10, 2002 11:41 AM
wil.
i love your sense of humour & ability to laugh at yourself. well done.

They seem to know what drives in traffic - and realize bunches of it come from here. You know people like you when they pick on you. Right?!? :-)
Posted by: pyrofenix | September 10, 2002 12:21 PM
Ha! I've got some loose change, Wil, want to perform a menial task for me? Hey, it was funny the first 10 or 15 times, what the heck.
Seriously, though, $0.76? Sounds like they're trying to low-ball you, just like Creation did. I think it's time for Wil's Posse to lay the smack down on UF. Represent!
Posted by: Ryland | September 10, 2002 12:23 PM
Hey, it was in the comments on that cartoon that I found www.wilwheaton.net. Am I glad I did!
Always been a fan of your work, especially what I saw on The Weakest Link. I was laughing way too hard at that. . . .

Posted by: Illiad | September 10, 2002 1:17 PM
So now Illiad has delurked on your site Wil, when will you be making an appearance on the UFie comment boards? We're waiting for you.....
Posted by: thndrcloud | September 10, 2002 1:49 PM
Jeez, Wil, I on you all the time. Where's the love?
Posted by: Unky | September 10, 2002 2:14 PM
That last statement was supposed to say I clown on you all the time with a link to this: http://www.canhed.com/08-30.gif
Oh sweet frickin' irony.
Posted by: Unky | September 10, 2002 2:16 PM
Lol. Thats so wrong. Oh dear, this reminds me of that show that I use to watch so long ago, which the name escapes me. Celebrity something or another where they had a long table and all the celebrities would have their time to be up at the podium and roast another celebrity or few. It was hilarious and some were just downright mean. All in all I guess it's good clean fun. Wil ya gotta love all attention, whether it be negative or positive, this just means that they are spending most of their time pre-occupied with thoughts of you.
Kristi =)
Posted by: Kristina | September 10, 2002 2:26 PM
LMAO, Unky.
Posted by: wil | September 10, 2002 2:26 PM
Thanks, Wil! I did more on the convention that pokes fun at a mix up between you and William Effing Shatner. I'll let you know when they're up.
Posted by: Unky | September 10, 2002 2:29 PM
I imagine Wil late at night, doing google searches on himself for hours, compiling lists of hits on Wil Wheaton and Will Wheaton and Wil Weaton and Will Weaton and Wil Weeton and Will Weeton and Whil Weatin and Wheel Wheat and Wild Wheaton and Wilt Wheeton and Wil Wilton and . . . . .
Posted by: Drakensykh | September 10, 2002 2:29 PM
I think that it should be brought up that your voice was also featured in The Secret of NIMH, which I just figured out because I recently watched it after a long ass time. Speak out! Tell us your experiences working with cartoon mice and Aunty Shrew! You don't have to, just as much as I like to have people talk about my childhood...
Posted by: Slothgar | September 10, 2002 2:31 PM
You know, this is funny, but Adam West had his website made in exchange for voicing a companies voicemail system.....I do not think a bus pass was offered
Posted by: Brokennewz | September 10, 2002 2:42 PM
So I'm listening to Soul Coughing and reading UF...ouch...I wonder what Wil thinks of that. So I Google over here and don't see a fresh link to UF, but a cryptic link referencing Soul Coughing? So I switch to the browser that has JavaScript on and follow the link...back where I started. What are the odds? What if Iliad had said "$0.76 and a breath mint" instead?
Posted by: phriedom | September 10, 2002 3:07 PM

Posted by: ninjaZ | September 10, 2002 4:22 PM
Wil,
Ok I will admit it...it was funny. Maybe a little to much of a stab at you. It made you sound financially destitute. Other than that, it was funny.
Until your next post......
Matt......
Posted by: matt | September 10, 2002 4:33 PM
hehe very funny... if i give you three cents, a bar of soap and a picture of this bus, will you clean my room?
Posted by: alden | September 10, 2002 5:26 PM
What's really funny is that Illiad's joke may inspire an actual game developer to talk to Wil about a voice job.
(We can only hope they have a bigger budget.)
Posted by: MacGuges | September 10, 2002 5:33 PM
Bruce Campbell voices over games all the time, he voiced over the new pit fall and I purposely ran the character into walls to hear him grunt
Posted by: jodilyn | September 10, 2002 6:14 PM
Thanks for putting that on Wil. I was laughing so hard...
I am brand new to your site, and I am sorry to say that I never visited userfriendly...but I will now often!
Posted by: lilac | September 10, 2002 6:15 PM
So, if I have some spare change and a bus ticket, would you do a voice over for my company?
;)
Posted by: Linda | September 10, 2002 7:30 PM
It looks like Wil has done some voice work. I thought I had listened to an audio book of Wil's, many yrs ago. Check out http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author=Wheaton%2C%20Wil/102-3109482-1713769

Get onto the bus...
Posted by: dan | September 12, 2002 6:21 AM
LOL
That was great.
I really liked Uncy's too.
My mind immediately did the mental currency conversion into Canadian. 76 cents US = $1.20 Canadian. Wil could be rich if he ever decided to run away to The Great White North.
(after I posted the conversion I realized that what I'd typed was "My mind did the mental currency conversion into English". Now that's a funny typing error.)
What city is the bus transfer for? Not that it matters really.
The bus to Beelzebub... sounds toasty.

WILL! A Soul Coughing fan!! Who'da thunk it?
(I was a huge fan of these guys and still chat with the keyboardist from time to time since he's a San Francisco native like myself.)
Anyway, nice comic, heh. I just wanted to reply because of the title of this post... =)

Hey Wil! Thanks for sharing that link. :-)
I was just thinking of your earlier voice acting stints-- The Secret of Nimh. I love that movie!!
Have you considered doing any voice acting? I bet you could do some video game stuff. If they ever do a Gabriel Knight 4 maybe you could get in on it. Then you'd get to work with Tim Curry and Mark Hamill. That would be awesome. That and I like your voice. :-)
Journey's End was on the other night. I still think that story was full of plotholes but it was great to see you. :-)
luv,
-Su
