Treefingers

I slept through the night like a baby. No dreams, no restlessness, not a single disturbance. When I woke this morning, the clock said 5:58. I beat the alarm by 3 minutes! I victoriously turned it off before it could beep, and hopped out of bed feeling relieved and rested.

I drank a cup of coffee, ate some cereal, and met my friend Burns at 6:45. We spent the next six hours at Dodger Stadium, standing in line for opening day tickets.

"The race for third place has already begun! Be part of the excitement at Dodger Stadium!"

longtime reader, first time poster. I enjoy your site alot wil! Glad you're doing better!

Homestarrunner t-shirts?! Awesome! I love waking up before my alarm.

6 hours for baseball tickets? You must be a *real* dedicated fan. I lost what little interest I had in baseball and just about any other professional sport because of the baseball strike back in the 90s.

Jeez i sound like "the 90's" were ages ago.

Anyway I'm glad you were able to get a good night's rest. There is nothing like that feeling you get when you wake up just minutes before the alarm. That triumphant, "Ha! Beat ya" feeling. hehe

Ha! I beat my alarm by 15 minutes today! But then again, I don't have a The Cheat t-shirt.

glad you got some well deserved sleep wil...

and loved the 'race for third place' line...laughed out loud when i saw that...

cheers
ty

I feel that your good night sleep may have been the cause for my restless sleep. Why would you send me your sleepless night vibes? That's just bad karma. Don't be like Fhqwhgads. He's full of bad Karma.

I like this format for comments much better. The old way, a box opened up and displayed comments in a font that was too small for me to read comfortably. I couldn't adjust the font or the size of the box. (Maybe my screen resolution of 1280x1024 had something to do with it. Running Win Me.)

*daha*

Well i doubt you will read this, bu i read your blog most days, its great to see you are still doing well, i am just watching TNG, good work.
I think is cool u did the site ur self.

I'm glad to hear that you got a good night's sleep. Sounds like you needed it!
Thanks for the book recommendation. It sounds like something I'll have to check out. I'm a voracious reader and go through books almost faster than I can afford them.

I was unaware that there were people who could beat the alarm and who even woke up refreshed.

Oh well, congrats on the sleeping, I hope you keep feeling better.

Today is not a school day so I slept in till 8, which I never do b/c I usually can't sleep past 6

Yeah I know that is weird. And I'm a teenager.
Go figure!
:) FiSHY:)

Hi Wil, I am glad that you are feeling better! Take care of yourself okay?

Brina.

Wil, I LOVE that you all got Homestar Runner shirts. I just ordered a Trogdor shirt today. TROGDOR!! TROGDOR!!

You get up at 6:01 ? Hm.. why not 6:00 ? :)

Woo!

They now have Trogdooooor! T-shirts so I am going to order it and put it next to my WWDN T-shirt and mug.

Baseball? Meh?

I don't think I could get up at 6 in the morning for anything short of the Second Coming.

Or delivery of a brand new convertible.

Did you use any specific method to get those great sleep results? I could use a few pointers that actually work.

Dubya

There's a 5:58 in the MORNING now??

I'm torn between a Trogdor or Strong Bad shirt, myself. One is the Burninator, one created the Burninator. It's rough.

Wil!

Once I had a five month stretch where I dreamt of chasing myself through the streets of Venice. Every day I would wake up exactly 6 minutes before my alarm went off. Then one day, I didn't set my alarm, and that morning I woke up at the exact time my alarm was to go off, well rested and dream free.

Funny how the human brain operates.

-Kaitlin

Congrats on the tickets, Wil!

You ever do much with Fantasy Baseball? Seems to be right up your alley.

Yeah, well I just got a cheat hoodie! *sticks his tounge out at you in a very childish manner*

Heehee

Seriously, though, I'm glad you slept well. :) And yay for beating your alarm clock! I hate it when mine wakes me up-so jarring.

I hope you enjoy the baseball!

My roommate and I were torn about the shirts...we're ending up with a Trogdor and a Stinko Man.

Too many shirts, too little disposable income.

And if you are lucky, Sandy Koufax will throw out the first pitch and hit Rupert right between the eyes.

I am very glad to hear you got a good night's sleep.

May you have many more.

--me.

Cool beans ! Those seats are awesome !

I'm glad the nightmares have stopped. And hopefully the rest are happy and wet ones. Okay only happy ones. I also hope you had fun at Dodger Stadium with your buddy, and you got all the tickets you were wanting. Good luck with the book.

P.S.

Looks like you got some cool stuff to, that probably made it a great Saturday for you. Have a great rest of the weekend.

Wil, you're so damn lucky you live on the West Coast. Waiting in line for tickets is nothing compared to us East Coast residents who had to brave 12 degree weather a few weeks ago for Mets tickets. Why bother getting tickets when the Dodgers have NO chance of winning the West? They don't have enough pitching! Even San Francisco has a better starting rotation....

Glad you are feeling better, Wil. Unrelated subject: I just looked at the posted content for a future "Nemesis" DVD and it looks that they are not including any "Wesley" deleted scenes. They are saying it can change, but still. How do I contact Rick Berman to let him know that I want "Wesley deleted scenes"? perhaps we can have some influence.

Bullshit Wil,

at 11:27 pst you were commenting on my Fark article.

- Nothing But Net

By the way that was my 19th Fark post. You have 18. Slacker!

glad you got some sleep, some days its rewarding to wake up refreshed before your alarm goes off... other days, it can just be flat out annoying! :-) hope you're having a great weekend!

you set your alarm for 6:01? that's amazing. (smiley face)

WTF are you talking about, Tim?

Wil

In a related story, I got up at 6 this morning and stood in line for 5 hours to get opening day tickets at Dodger Stadium.

***
5:32 PM, dude. In. Your. Face.

Here's the thread in question:

http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=462571

Dude, do you ever sleep?

Wil

"Modern Day Paul Bunyan?!"

I bet you a dollar he doesn't even have an ox, much less a big blue one, the slacker

***
Heh. I think the times are Eastern, man. We'll call it a draw. ;)

Wow, you stood in line for five hours for baseball tickets??
Man, that's dedication. I only go to baseball games when the tickets are free. Of course, up here in Toronto, hockey's the thing.

Alright, all together now: OWEN NOLAN RULES!
hehe, sorry.
Good job on the whole night's sleep!

Eastern Guam, maybe.

You're funnay.

Bad move Wil. You abandoned the good old fashioned nightmares of being chased by the boogie man.... only to buy tickets for one of the finest baseball franchises ever to be purchased by the boogie man! Long live Vin Scully, memories of Kirk Gibson circa 1988, and a slow painful death to Rupert Murdoch and News Corp.'s ownership of the Dodgers.

KidA is on my top ten of all time will..

I got my tickets today as well!

"Why bother getting tickets when the Dodgers have NO chance of winning the West? They don't have enough pitching! Even San Francisco has a better starting rotation.... "

cough, cough...bullshit. I live in San Francisco and the Giants do not have a better pitching staff than the Dodgers. If (big if) they're healthy, the Dodgers have the best staff in the West by far. If not, they're better than anyone but Arizona. Sorry, for the predominate nature of baseball in this comment, but Wil started it.

So, here's my question -

Every once in a while, I too have had those mornings where I wake up just before the alarm, completely refreshed and incredibley comfortable. You know, the temperature of the room is just right, it's not too bright, etc.

Why is it that I never actually get up then? I'll just lie there, enjoying the feeling of totally refreshment... until I doze off again. Of course, a few short minutes later I am jarred awake by the alarm, and that all-over comfort feeling is gone.

Am I the only one who does this?

Arrgh.

treefingers is a weird song. though, i like. can't wait for the new LP in june.

eric

Hey WWDN readers... can you imagine walking through the parking lot and thinking "...was that Wil I just saw asleep in that car??? nah....."

heh

Does the radiohead track "Treefingers" have something to do with sleeping?

First...Wil, e-mail "John From Ireland" and let him know that you really do read all this crap.

Secondly, I must say that I'm pleased to have tickets inside the stadium for opening day, but I think you had the better end of the deal. You got a nap and finished a good book. I spent hours in line with people who actively smelled bad.
I mean really bad.

okay, well, i got up at 12.30pm today, so boo to you all! alarm? wtf is that thing? didn't go to bed till 4am mind u, so i guess i'm on a different time base to u ppl :)

glad u got some kip will, prolly cos u spoke of your fear of the boogyman, u beat him :)

Feel free to create #wwdn on this irc.elite-scriptaz.net, everyone welcome, hi wil.

if you had just waited another week, you could have gotten TROGDOR t-shirts!!

Hi folks, Wil...I took a break from coming by after you went into self-imposed exile, glad to see things seem to be back to normal around here. I wonder how long Dodger Stadium will be Dodger Stadium and not Sony Dodger Stadium?

I am REALLY glad you got to sleep just fine!!!

I've never ever been to a Baseball game so sadly I can't share the excitement!!!

Got wasted last night and slept until 3pm. Tonight will be tough.
I got my Wil's Posse baseball shirt last week!

Later, Dev.

Treefingers is a track off the Radiohead Album Kid A - just thought that was kinda cool

baseball... God that's like the 2nd most boring game on the planet (after Cricket), only marginally more interesting that Snooker. Baseball statistics... what the hell is that about it...

Only American's could come up with such an impenetrable game as baseball. You need a stats degree just to understand which team is good and which is bad!

You get mail on a weekend? r0x0r5!

As a long-time sufferer of night terrors, I can empathise -- but have also found ways out of my own terrors that have taken *years* to learn. I have found the best way to "lucid" dream (not the new-age-crap lucid dreaming, the get-rid-of-nightmares-on-your-own-by-changing-the-dream lucid dreaming)is to set your alarm clock for some odd hour (like if you normally wake at 7, set it for 5). Don't worry, you don't have to get up, it just jogs your brain so you can remember to change the dream into something you like better. Most people (I say most, because I am a freak who doesn't) hit REM sleep around 4 - 5 am. When you interrupt a dream by being woken up, you can usually go right back into the dream -- if you want. I find that when I have bouts of bad nightmares, interrupting the dream allows me to change into a more enjoyable dream.
It takes a lot of practice, but it does pay off for those who really need it. Take it from someone who once woke up starkers in the neighbor's living room -- talk about a nightmare!

Good to hear that you are sleeping again. Did any of the posts actually help (i know mine didn't :) ? BTW, i know this might be a bit overstepping, as it is your blog, but can we hear more about your relationship with ann? Like the warm fuzzy stuff and the relationship stories, your writing style changes quite a bit when you talk about her (eg. playing in the rain, the dog bite). I find it similar to my writing change when talking about or to my love... babble babble babble...

You stood in line for tickets??? I bought my season ticket package for the AZ Diamondbacks over the phone!

So if the race for third place has already begun, who is pegged for second and first place?

well damn. ok, that was supposed to be Anne. i HATE misspelling/pronouncing people's names! sorry

Wil,
Its great to see that Baseball can still bring that kind of feeling to people, of all ages. No wonder you got good sleep.

FG

It does help to write nightmares down or to talk about them. My mam used to do that with me to get things off my chest. It works everytime. Just rememeber that if it happens again.

Just rememeber they are just dreams and can not hurt you.

it was 70 degrees in my part of southern illinois yesterday...and my mind drifted away to thoughts of baseball...as i sat at work with the window open...and felt the warm moist breeze billowing through...maybe your dodgers will meet my cardinals in the playoffs this year!...it's baseball...so anything is possible...maybe even the cubs could win the world series this year...NAH!...i think hell would be freezing over before that would happen....PLAY BALL!

Gads; I leave for a week and there are format changes. HA HA. That will teach me.

Keep up the good work and can't wait for the book!

Hmmm... how spider-proof is that email thing above? Oh well...

Ha! I didn't know celebrities had to wait in line...

Those t-shirts rule! i have a Strong Bad hoodie and hopefully plan to add The Cheat hoodie to my collection. I got bonus tatoos AND coasters! As a Padre fan, I can't say any good things about the Dodgers. Sorry.

Wil...

3rd place for the Dodgers ??

now that's dreaming !!!!
(just kidding :)

if you come down to san diego and need a place
give me some notice and I'll see if I can
arrage something here where I work...

unless you want to stay at a "resort"

later tater

I'm just glad I'm a Cardinals fan.

The battle for 3rd place? LOL! As a die-hard Cubs fan, 3rd place would be a big step UP this year. The thing is, the Cubs should be able to do. Unlike the Dodgers, the Cubs have really good pitching (esp. the starting rotation). The bullpen's still spotty, but it's improved. If they don't lose so many one or two run games this year, the Cubs just might be in the chase for awhile (they won't catch the Cards just yet). I still wish they'd signed either Pudge Rodriguez or Jim Thome... Sammy can't provide all the offense himself.

I just can't believe the Cubs managed to pawn Todd Fucking Hundley off on your Dodgers, Wil! We'd have given him up for some old lightbulbs and a case of beer, but we actually got a couple of decent players for him! Suckers... :-)

I still think we should do a WWDN gathering at Wrigley this summer, Wil. Are you ever going to tell us the story about your trip there last year?

When I heard that the dodgers had finally gotten a brain and unloaded Karros, I was THRILLED.

Then I heard that they had to get Todd Hundley in the deal.

WTF?

I love the Cubbies . . . I hope they dump Karros RSN.

I understand your point about Karros, Wil. He's not what he used to be (Although I'm not sure signing the aging Fred McGriff was the answer). He does, however, give the Cubs some insurance in case rookie Hee Sop Choi doesn't live up to the hype. They really needed to sign Thome, who was willing to play in Chicago at a discount. If they had, there'd be no need to keep Karros.

Still, getting Grudzilanek (sp?) provides infield depth, and there's actually reason to be excited about the Cubs these days. I'm being guardedly optimistic for now. If they're still in the hunt on Augsut 31st, I'll be unable to contain myself.

Todd Hundley. BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! I feel for you, Wil.

nice to see you got some sleep, its odd, but myself and a lot of friends have all had restless sleep the past week or so. makes ya wonder. btw, no one did ever answer, whaqt is a FNORD?

Hey, its good to hear you got some decent sleep at last. I sent you some happy sleepy mojo to help you!! But its good to know your back on track.

Love Rach
xxx

Go yankees!!! i am p-o'd they lost to the sucky devil rays. bieng from tampa i have to hear about that crappy team all the time. but hey at least i get to see the yanks at legends field. glad some one got sleep i drank too much dew and didnt fall asleep until like 2 in the morning then i slept through my alarm. stupid, stupid radio. i hate alarms.

About lost sleep for all of us, i think that our collective conciseness SHOULD be disturbed by the idea of the impending war, the tenuous relationships of many of the nations at this time. ALso the fact that the govt. seems pleased to not listen to a large group of their population that they are supposed to be representing. Yah, i am stressed. Everyone is stressed. After 9-11 there was a similar experience in the US, along with that little bit leading up to a mini baby boom (hm... what can we do while we can't sleep... hm...)

i can't recall the amount of times i've awoken to find out i was ahead of my alarm clock by only a minute or so...very strange indeed.

ah, if only i consistently did that so i wouldn't have to listen to that annoying beep in the morning...

sleep is for the weak. strongbad doesnt sleep.

Get ready to rumble, Wil. The Phila Phillies are coming to your town. ;)

as for the waking up before the alarm, you can train your body to wake up at a certain time... personally, i always shift my alarm by 5-10 minutes one direction or another every few days so that i don't get a certain time ingrained.

Glad you sleeping better.. there is nothing worse than not sleeping through the night... and when you do eventually drop off, it feels like the alarm goes off seconds later, and then the day is just the worst day, coz your tired and grumpy...

i been there many-a-time...

hope you sleepful night keep going... and you stay fresh and sexy looking...

I just received my Baseball season tix in the mail. MMM. Fresh printer's ink gets me high. I think of the intense green of the grass, the sun in my eyes, the wind in my face, and huddling under a blanket in the chilly spring damp counting the minutes until my obsession wraps its thrill around my heart once more. No sacrifice is too great in the service of
BASEBALL!!!
With apologies to the Dodgers, who are NL in any case... Go Mariners!
Happy to hear your sleep trials are over, Wil. Looking forward to our teams maybe meeting each other in the World Series this year. There's always hope. The West _is_ the best.

Mima

Oh, we all know the Cincinnati Reds are going to sweep it all this season. I mean after all, they just got themselves a nice, shiny, brand spankin' new stadium, and they don't have to share it with the Bengals anymore, and they don't have Marge anymore, and...and...and...

Okay. Somebody wake me up now...

So the cure for nightmares is .. The Dodgers? Huh, you should watch the Royals. No, wait. That just cures insomnia.

"Where no one has gone before" was on tonight. How much of your current persona would you say was built off that particular episode?

On a side note, although baseball is cool, try getting Packer opening day tickets at Lambeau field sometime. It will make 6 hours seem like 6 minutes! Chillin' (literally) in WI, I always enjoy your blog.

Baseball ... hmmm ... all righty then. I try to have an interest in it but I just can't do it.

So, instead, I feel the need to unnecessarily correct your assumption that you did not dream, because you did, you just don't remember it. Dreaming is the mind's way of recharging and if a person does not dream for a long period of time they will literally go insane (at least until they get some sleep). I read way too much stuff about the neuromechanics of dreaming (rolling eyes).

Ahhh, memories of the day my Homestar t-shirt came in the mail. I also got static cling stickers of Homestar and Strongbad. Now I can make them fight in the back window of my car if I feel like it. Pow! Pow!
I strongly suggest WWDN static cling stickers. I like the flexibility of repositioning them and the aspects of non-permanence. We have the technology...

WWDN static-cling stickers are in the works.

Go Cleveland Indians!!...:o)

sometimes i find this blog informative and poignant, for which i thank you.

today i realized i'm reading about how i guy i don't know slept.

Wil, only the guilty can sleep like that.

You sag with Mr. Burns? Doesn't Waylon get jealous?

Smithers has no idea. Let's keep it that way.
