broken ice still melts in the sun
I put up a couple of eBay auctions yesterday afternoon.
They are:
- Autographed Dancing Barefoot, for those of you who missed it, or who
live outside of the USA (Note: this is a *real* "first edition." It's one of the first 250 I printed, and it comes complete with four typos! Can you feel the excitement?) - EarnestBorg9 MultiGalactic Tour T-shirt, from my improv / sketch comedy group
I have always been really lucky with eBay stuff. People seem happy to bid on my items, and I'm happy to send them off to good homes. If these auctions are a success, I'll find some other stuff around here and put it up for your bidding pleasure.
Update: Yeah, turns out I can't make links. They should work, now. Thanks to commenters who provided the correct links. That'll teach me to blog before I've had any coffee.

I am the lamest non-link-checking guy in the world.
Fixxored now. Thanks, gang. :)

Wasn't a signed copy from monolith like $25? I'd love to have one, but $80 is a little steep. When is the next printing going to be available?
Posted by: Patrick | November 18, 2003 09:16 AM
There should be another printing as soon as we're able to get it done.
How's that for a non-answer? Sorry about that. :(
Actually, I hope to have another printing within 6 weeks. I doubt we'll have one ready for the holidays. I blame exceedingly poor planning on my part.

Ah, an opportunity to achieve one of my goals! Get a copy of Dancing Barefoot! Some friends said, "Don't buy it, we'll get it for you for Christmas, you know how we never know what to get you for Christmas." So I didn't buy it. And then, the other week I mentioned that the site now says DB is sold out. "Oh, um, we didn't get the book. We were gonna wait til after Thanksgiving, that's when we start our Christmas shopping. Think you can find it somewhere?"
Well, this is my chance. I am feeling pessimistic, though. I have a feeling this copy of DB will sell for more than I can afford. I've not had good luck with ebay recently. I tried to get a Raiders of the Lost Ark poster for a friend's birthday. I won the auction, but what I got instead was a Last Crusade poster. I've had no luck so far getting in touch with the buyer. I have a few more options, but, we'll see.
(I won't be wasting time with JAG, as soon as I know it is available, I'm buying a copy, hopefully hardcover.)

Darn it! I would love a copy of DB but I can't afford to spend $80 on a book if I want to buy my kids christmas presents. Hmmm, do they really need toys? Have they really been that good? Yeah, they have, I'm gonna spoil them. But, I will def. be looking for that next printing and hopefully I can add it to my birthday wish list for Feb. Hmmm, think that is enough time Wil? Thank you so much for your "lame website", I enjoy it completely.

Doh! I've been outbid!
"Actually, I hope to have another printing within 6 weeks. I doubt we'll have one ready for the holidays. I blame exceedingly poor planning on my part." -Wil
Well, six weeks, six months, hey, I just want my Dancing Barefoot!
Posted by: jl | November 18, 2003 10:12 AM
The book is now up to $127.50. That's crazy! I hope those are all honest bids! I got my book, signed too. But not for that price!
You go Wil!

While I am normally the Queen of Ebay, I am letting the deeper-pocketed have this one....hope it finances a rockin' gift for the family!
Posted by: Francine | November 18, 2003 10:22 AM
I'm tempted to bid just to drive the price up. *evil laughter*
But I won't.
Posted by: Delphine | November 18, 2003 10:47 AM
Hmmm... Methinks Wil should put THE SHIRT up on Ebay, with a decent reserve price, and sell it with his autograph right across the front. Mucho Moola there, I'd think.
Hell, I'd frame it...

Hi, I'm Wil Wheaton. I played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Do you always introduce yourself like this? :)
Posted by: Brett | November 18, 2003 11:30 AM
I only introduce myself that way on eBay.
Everywhere else, I say, "I'm Wil Wheaton, and I'm your worst nightmare." in my best Stallone voice.
By the way, that's not the best way to get a table in a crowded restaurant.
Posted by: wil | November 18, 2003 11:33 AM
It's over $200! If this keeps up you'll be having a very pleasant early Christmas.

I'm still waiting for the copy of Dancing Barefoot I ordered several weeks ago!
Chris

Holy Mackinoly! When I looked this morning the signed "Dancing Barefoot" was $76 and I thought that was amazing. Now it's up to $250! I mean, it's great, but who are these people and where do they get so much money?
Good work, Wil!
Posted by: Mary | November 18, 2003 12:29 PM
Jeebus, Wil! Put up a few more auctions like that Dancing Barefoot autographed copy, and you won't have to actually WRITE anymore books!!!
Posted by: steph | November 18, 2003 12:52 PM
Heh.
Thanks, guys.
Chris, orders take between 6 and 8 weeks to arrive, unless the USPS pulls some major shennigans.
Posted by: wil | November 18, 2003 01:13 PM
I finally got a copy just a few weeks ago - had been holding out for Christmas. It came from Powell's ( http://www.powells.com ) - it looks like they still have a few copies left.
Admittedly, it's not as cool as getting an autographed copy, but it's better than not having one at all!

Went to check, see If I can afford it. Nope, over $300 now. Translate that into Canadian, that becomes "Not a fricken chance!" You really need a reprint.

"I walked into my garage this afternoon, and found a few XL Borg9 shirts. I could really use some extra cash right now, so instead of washing it, tossing it on my bed, and cuddling it like a woobie tonight, I offer it here at eBay."
... cuddling it like a woobie ?
That's freaky, yo.
There is *definitely* something in the water out there.
Posted by: Rachelro | November 18, 2003 10:22 PM
Cuddling it like a woobie, eh?
That bit made my day.
But I'm actually calling it a night in about... five minutes... so that's not really saying much. Meh.

Lets have a contest. What will the book end at? $500? $1000? I think I will shoot fo $5,000,000... the hard part is getting the check cashed.
Posted by: daniel | November 18, 2003 11:18 PM
$405?! I held in there as long as i could, but hell, i'll just have to wait for the reprint...
You'll be having one good xmas, wil... enjoy!
