Checked this blog. Like what I see. Laughed at one part: "Sat across aisle from two pilots in uniform, nervously looked at them for reactions whenever plane lurched too much." Did the same thing the first time I flew but it was stewardesses reactions I looked for. Decides to say to Wil, "Nice to have you back."

Like to read Stephen King huh? He's got a great style. Have you read "IT" ? The best story ever. "Ace Merril" is in that story too.

Amused by tendency of posters to mimic the writing style of your last post. Decided to follow suit.

Wanted to point out that the current Slashdot poll has quiet tribute to your nickname for Shatner.

Don't really have anything else to say, so I'll stop here.

It almost sounds like you're filing a shorthand report, or even speaking into a microcassette recorder so you can do dictation later.

LOL That is by far one of the best entries I've ever read!! I loved the way you laid it all out... and especially the bit about the 2 pilots. I know that feeling. Every time I fly and the plane gets a bit rough, I immediately search for the face of a flight attendant in hopes of their expression calming me. Either that or I simply squeeze the hell out of my husband's hand. =)

King does indeed own. Salems Lot is one of my favorite early books of his. I am looking forward to picking up DT5 just to see how Father Callahan comes across and into Rolands world.

I could talk shit about King for half a day.

Ace isn't in IT by the way Josie. That's Needful Things that Ace also appears in. Henry is the child bully type guy in IT.

The Stand dominates all his other books anyway. Plus Flagg is the protagonist which should make DT junkies happy.

I'm glad you had fun in the city. I live in a suburb outside of San Francisco and spent my afternoon driving around there on Monday. It's cool to know you were here.

Speaking of flights and pilots, I forgot to mention that Flight Attendants and Flight Crews usually won't react to a problem in a manner that would alarm passengers. Notwithstanding, there are a few things you should listen for when flying, as stated in my Soapbox .sig, and if you hear any them...well, start praying!

The top 5 things you never want to hear from the flight deck of a commercial airliner:

5) Flight Engineer: I don't know!
4) Captain: I don't know either!
3) First Officer: What does this button do?
2) Captain: Hehehe! Watch this!
1) All of them: OH SH****T!!!!

And I love your choice of reading. The Dark Tower series is probably my all time favorite series of books (followed closely by the Earth's Children Series). I haven't gotten around to getting the 5th book just yet, but hopefully will soon.

You were there during the cold snap, it's been chilly in the bay area the past few days. I was unaware that Tech Tv was filmed in SF. You have a number of fans in NorCal, maybe you should do a show there. Stacey's book store, or even better, Cody's, in Berkeley and SF. Not quite as cool as Powell's in Portland, but worthy of a visit from an aspiring young writer.

You finished Dark Tower IV and started... _Salem's Lot_? Why not _Wolves of the Calla_?

Funny thing about that... My libary put a copy of DTV on shelf before it was supposed to be released, so I finished it the day it was released.

Also, had a flight where the plane hit an air pocket in a thunderstorm, the stewardess’s face was NOT comforting and the words “**** that was a big one” that came from the mouth of the steward she was standing next to made me fight back a very unmanly whimper.

Hey! *I* just finished Dark Tower IV! Creepy...

lessee....woke up this morning. checked email to see if anyone wrote me during the night. I got one from my mom saying that she doesn't need to fly to SF to get her visa to fly to China and am really excited! Went to school and taught a wonderful class to what I've thought is my worst all semester long. Am reconsidering my opinion of that class. Had a great Chinese lesson that involved putting pointy horns on an illustration in a book. Made my teacher laugh. Went to the activity center to do tutoring and ended up watching "Scrooged." Had some dinner with a coupla my students (Chinese noodles that are thick enough to be spaghetti noodles!). Taught another class that also went really well. Came home in the cold wind and almost rain to turn on compute and find that Wil Wheaton is home again and updatinig his blog. yay!!!

Sitting in Union Square in December is one of the most amazing experiences you can have. Not for any particular WOW factor.. just.. sitting on the bench across from the tree. Watching the people flock by; shopping; going home; going to work. Time goes by.

Listening to the homeless band play on the ramp until late.

Watching the silver statue dance to his boombox.

Knowing that you don't have to rush to be anywhere.

Knowing that you can walk two blocks up to Johnny Foleys and have many pints of Guiness and lose the winter chill.

Yes... I recommend that everyone who can, should go and experience that just once.

When I got to Union Square, the sun had just fallen behind the St. Francis hotel, so the marble steps were still warm, even though the air was quite cold.

It's all about coming home wondering, "Where have I been the past 48 hours?"

I just got back from a holiday in San Francisco, though we left before you got there - we took off on Saturday. We had a fantastic time, and it's now my favourite American City. I could live there quite happily I think.

I used to live in SF actually :-) Now I'm all the way here in Brussels, Belgium. Where the sun never shines. I miss the weather in California, here it's always raining. Heh.

As an airline pilot I try to avoid position or deadheading on a flight while in uniform because everyone does what you do, stares to look for a reaction to every noise or bump. Trust me, to get "dangerous" the bumps have to get so bad things are flying in the cabin and you can't see straight. Bumps mean nothing, noises mean nothing... drink a beer (but not so many as you start harassing the Flight Attendants) and relax. :-)

Am big fan also of San Francisco, was there a couple of years ago. V. nice. Am not sure but am thinking perhaps you were actually reading Bridget Jones's Diary while on plane. Is full of sentences that start like this. Plus abbreviations like v. for "very". Is v. fast way to record thoughts, feelings etc. Also funny in v. lovely Brit. way.

I ran away from SF in May and live in Southern California now. But thanks Wil; your writing made me actually miss home for the first time in months.

I am sorry I missed your stay. I, unfortunately had a small hint of your stay here in SF. I work at a hotel, in union square. Upon preparing for the days arrivals, your name did come across and the "Oh my god, we have a celebrity staying with us??" wave of excitement did hit me. Unfair that I have this knowledge, is true....but what can you do when you work a graveyard shift and find yourself with your normal mundane boring tasks??

Suffice to say, I am glad you enjoyed your stay in the city...minding the horrid weather we have. I feel honored to have had you in my hotel and I hope it not the last time you decide to visit.

The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla is out now. I'm about 3/4 of the way through it. I've heard mixed reviews but as a die hard Stephen King fan, I may be a little biased when I say, it's good. Worth the money.

Salem's Lot was the very first S.K. book I ever picked up when I was 13. Scared the hell outta me. Been a fan ever since.
