backstage . . .
Greetings from the set of The Screen Savers!!
After five hours of restless and very disturbed sleep, I went to the airport this morning to come up to San Francisco. My favorite moment of the flight was when we climbed through the low-level clouds over Burbank and I watched the shadow of the plane climb up their sides.
One cab ride later I was at the TechTV Studios, and one bagel later I was rehearsing my first episode of Call For Help. One rehearsal later, I taped it. Goodtimes.
Then lunch, then second episode, and now I'm waiting to do my segment, which starts in about fifteen minutes.
You know what? I love being here for these shows. Everyone who works here always treats me well, they're very professional, and I always have a really good time.
My Call For Help shows air on Friday and Monday, and of course I'll be on Screen Savers just a few minutes.
Uh-oh. Time to get ready for the show.

Im sitting here at work anxiously waiting for someone to encode TSS and post it on alt.binaries.multimedia - i dont have tv so that's my resource. its wierd, i talk to some random people during my day, and occasionally i'll bring up wilwheaton.net and they say, "oh, yeah, i check that out. he's great."
you are.

I hope your second 'day' goes as well.
It's weird to think over here in the UK it's 12.10am on thursday morning and yet over there it's early afternoon

I just saw a clip of you on the Screensavers. :) That was just a random comment. lol

That's my random thought for today, or is it yesterday?!?!?!?

Sitting here watching 'Screen Savers'...saw you flash the goat \m/...and then go back to writing this very entry, I'm supposing! I saw the familiar white gleam of your laptop. Technology is cool...and you look so cute in the red! Yay Wil! And your band shirt from a few nights ago! Rawk!
Posted by: Abby | April 21, 2004 04:12 PM
Sounds cool. Enjoy.

"Dude this guy was such a dick!"
Did anyone just notice that he said "dick" in the interview on TSS and it aired? I thought that was pretty funny that it wasn't censored.

Wil, just watched you on Screen Savers. You were great, and he asked you some excellent questions. You get better and better at talking about yourself all the time. You rock! Keep up the great work. \m/

Wil,
You were so great on the show. I haven't had a chance to catch you on TV in what seems like forever. I can't wait to get a copy of the book. What are the chances you'll be able to promote it in Florida? :)

Nice job Wil! You said you gained weight....the camera must take OFF ten pounds in your case! You're super skinny!

great segment on TSS! Look forward to your CFH shows.

Great job Wil! In the last interview you did for the Rover, there was alot of head nodding that did not happen this time! You came across as animated, articulate, balanced and forward looking!
It seems as if you feel that finally, you have arrived at a plateau, ~ Really glad you are going to stop and smell the coffee, roses and family (not in that order-g).
I am sure that Comcast is looking for new talent. With them bring Tech TV to LA, maybe there is more future slots for you opening up to be a bridger between worlds with even greater impact.
Congradulations on surviving this phase of your "Hero's Journey", when so many others didnt!

Wil,
Just saw you on TSS, and every time I see you on TV I keep thinking, that is one cool geek! I love being a geek, and seeing other geeks having fun, enjoying technology, and just being down right geeky. I need to stop by your blog more often and see the 'sploits of a fellow geek!

Did you say "Sucks Out Loud" ? I thought I was the only one that still said that?
Looking Good Will!

Hey Will:
Good job on tss. I bet you were relieved that Patrick didn't ask you any questions about ST:TNG.
Hope to see you on CFH .
A fan,
John.

DVR was programmed and should have finished capturing the TTS episode. I'll add the CfH entries for Fri & Mon when I get home.
You always liven up the eps.

Any word on a newsgroup posting of the show yet??

I get WWdN syndicated through LiveJournal, but also noticed this announcement on Fark today. Wil, I didn't know you had your own Fark tag! That's so cool! Either that, or I'm easily impressed. ;)

I just saw your segment on TSS,Well Done!I had never considered the idea Blogs could be used as test or "Trial Balloon" for feed back on a writing exercise.
Excellent idea!!!!
Maybe if more aspiring writers/Bloggers would follow your example we could see some really creative people start to come out of the woodwork.
Now if we just had a nice clearinghouse for those would-be Steven Kings and John Grisham's ...wink...wink......nudge...nudge..maybe someone might get a chance of a lifetime.
By the way, was J.K. Rowling ever a Blogger?????

Nicely done, Wil!
Very articulate, very fast-paced.
Now relax and drink a Guinness or three before getting on the plane (and maybe you'll appear on AIRLINE!).

Yeah, I saw you on The Screensavers, and I'll see you on Call for Help on Friday. It's good to know that you haven't gone the way of most former child actors. Thank god. I thought you were quite the smartass on the episode of The Weakest Link you appeared on, and you seemed like a guy with a good sense of humor. You even took it well when Anne joked about your use of only one "L" as being pretensious. No, I'm not some freakish fangirl, I just have a memory even I can't explain. Well, anyhow, I've gotten WAAY off topic. Glad to see you're doing well, and I wish you even more success with your current endeavors than your previous ones. Take care :-)

Just saw you on tv. 720pm in NY.
This is my first time hearing about this strange world of blogging. I think it's pretty neat. You get to write something on the spot. Maybe you (anywone) always wanted to write something... Why? I'm not sure and I'm not going to complain about it. I guess it's worth while spam. Maybe te ant-spam created it. I'm sure everyone is tired of getting those empty messages which specialize on the take concept. Maybe a blog is just a snapshot of returning some personal meaning. I mean you search the internet for something important and it seems every site is screaming, 'me, me, look at me I'm a pop up. I'm going to lie. I'm going to solicit you for your time and money. I'm going to hinder your search and tire you with hard core idiot marketing'. I mean the: 'a sucker is born every day' theme is killing all of less stupid people.
ok I'm done with this venting thing. I like to give this blog thing a try if it improve things. Things being that I used to love to write back in high school. This used to be about poems and short stories. As one get's older and work becomes absolute I find it easy to make excuses for not writing (or for not trying out what you always wanted to do in your spare time). I guess it's a good way to get started again with no pressure. No presure Wil 8+).
Wil good stuff. Good luck with everything. I hope you keep inspiring. I think it's your modesty that's keeps good writing attractive.

Uncle Willie!
I was the big dork in the WWDN T-Shirt* who threw you the goat when you noticed I was wearing it. :)
Good to see you live! And you totally don't have a double chin, dude.
Clay
*The same WWDN T-Shirt that I was wearing in the Himalayas that you've not posted the picture of YET. ;)

Posted by: Swa | April 21, 2004 07:31 PM
Dude...just thought of something...you totally should have mentioned all of your recent V.O. work...but I guess you can save that for Katie Couric, huh?
Posted by: Abby | April 21, 2004 08:30 PM
Now if only I got TechTV.
Congrats Wil!

Finally, my TechTV subscription is going to really pay off.
Not that their other programs are not any good, this is just a very cool highlight.

Just saw the Screen Savers. I think I'll go get your book. I dig where you come from politically, and you seem to have a very cool demeanor. Congrats on getting published by O'Reilly!

That was a good interview on The Screen Savers. I've never read your blog before, but it looks pretty interesting. (c;
I agree with the knoppix thing -- not only is it great to use on my machines, but it's easy to show others how to use when they're still kinda hooked on Windows. I'll wean them from it before too long, though...
Anyway, I'll be sure to check your weblong again in the future. (c:

That was a great interview on TSS! Aparently, a lot of other people think so too, because your site is somewhat slow at the moment. :)
Take care, and good luck with your book.

Dude, Wil, just caught TSS re-broadcast in my area (I work nights so I see it later in the day).
\m/
Looks like you had a great time!
My copy of Dancing Barefoot is coming in tomorrow. I'mma pick up Just a Geek ASAP.

I enjoy watching you interact on television, you are always so animated. I think this is your best TSS interview to date.
And, you said something about a double-chin... but I did not really see it. I think you need to look directly into mirrors instead of down at them. ;)
Posted by: Stax | April 21, 2004 10:56 PM
Heh! I knew you were probably writing an entry when I saw that shot of you.
Nice show, Wil! The color of your t-shirt was screwing with our T.V. (it doesn't like close ups of red and orange, for some reason - makes this humming noise), so it was hard to hear sometimes, but what I heard was a great interview!
Oh, and I didn't see but ONE chin. ;)

Yes you did an AWESOME Job on TSS and I will be watching both CFH's that you are on.

I just now saw your segment in Call for Help. It came as a surprise for me to see you there on tech tv. I think you did a wonderful job. You didn't appear nervous, and your speaking skills are awsome. Keep up the good work! ^_^

Hey Wil,
Just saw the show, and it was good. I didn't know you'd be on, but I watch all the time and you were fit right in. I just wanted to say that I spotted you.
