The cover for Just A Geek

Comments

Awesome, Wil. You should be proud.

Excellent! Way to go Wil.

Ah the borg! RUN! Definitely not Wesley anymore, congrats.

Wheee!!

And great picture!!

Awesome.

What, they cropped out "THE SHIRT" ???!

Wow! Perfect picture for the cover. It easily sums up the 'tagline'. Two thumbs up.

What? No blue hair? :oP

Seriously though, I can not WAIT for this book! It is on the top of my MUST BUY list.

I really dig the cover Wil. It's very stark but bold in its own way, with a feeling of vulnerability and honesty. Very cool.

Congratulations Wil! I loved Dancing Barefoot and can't wait to read JAG.

Cover art for biographical books can be so much "look at me" drivel.

Nicely done, and congratulations!

Is that the actual cover?

Dang...and I was still holding out hope for a monkey at a typewriter...

Looks great though...definitely drool-worthy, even from an old lady like me...

Wonderful picture. I think I remember why I had such a crush on Wil back when I was in middle school, now...

Congratulations.

I have to agree with Corey S. The cover really has a feeling of vulnerability and honesty to it. I've been excited about buying your book for a while now.

AWESOME COVER!!!! Yay Wil!!!! :D

Congratulations! I'll have to pre-order it from Barnes and Noble. This must be like giving birth for you.

Kick Ass!!! I want a copy

Look into the eyes of the dragon and dispair...

Wow..

Nice cover :)

AWESOME COVER! I can't wait to pick up a copy!

Congrats comrade, great cover, great pic, and no trace of a double-chin. Awesome cover for what I know will be/is an awesome book. Can't wait to get my copies.

Wow, Wil! That's soooooooo cool! Congratulations! I will definitely buy the book as soon as it comes out.

*mumbles something about the 33% discount she gets*

Laurie

Coooool!!!!

Do you know it's up for pre-order at Amazon?

Do you know I just pre-ordered a copy from Amazon?

Everyone go pre-order a copy from Amazon!!!!!!!111

Your picture has hypnotized me. Are you some kind of sorcerer?

Like the blog, haven't read your print yet, but will, Wil. Wakka wakka wakka!

RAWK!

Perhaps you could use this for a future book cover?

Very, very cool cover. I will notify the Pyramidians.

Wow. That is really striking...
Congratulations!

Oh. Wil. Wow. Piercing. Captivating.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us! It looks great! I can't wait to read the book.

WoW! Wesley..grew up

now hes 'drool-alicious' :D

Fabulous picture! I remember why I had such a crush on you (at 5, admittedly).

SWEET!!!

It's the man behind the boy we grew up with.

I can't wait.

Scott

Looking more closely at the picture, I love the shadows on the left side of your face. It gives a great light side/dark side of WW look.

Great, I've just preordered it from Amazon France (and I'll get free shipping too :)

I really need to read Dancing Barefoot (I was finally able to get it in France thanks to O'Reilly distribution and Amazon France..)

(if you click the image, you'll get a surprise.)

Shhhh. :)

Heaven indeed!

You've probably accomplished more in the past few years than most do in their intire lives. You definitely have something to be proud of. I'm happy things are coming around and that you're getting the recognition you deserve. Finally!

and you can't even see your double chin...

Sweet! Now quick, show us who wrote the Forward! I hate waiting....*does the potty dance*....please....I want this book!

Too cool! Can't wait to read it...and to find out who the mysterious author of the Forward turns out to be. WFS? Patrick Stewart? Jerry Seinfield? One of the Coreys? Martha Stewart? Danny Elfman?

so sweet... don't tell my husband ...

So, when do I get my advance copy? :P

Cool, though you kinda look scary... slightly emotionless... like maybe you're just barely holding back your dark emotions like a Vulcan who's gone crazy...

Wait, what was I saying? Oh yeah, can't wait to get the book, nice cover too.

I LOVE it!!1!!1!

Now how do I get my copy signed to match my dancing barefoot? heh.

Fantastic - congratulations Wil!

I'm so thrilled to see you coming into your own and happy I was one of the Wesley Fans from way back when.

Keep on living your life on your own terms and the hell with the rest of 'em.

(And if you listen carefully, you'll hear the sound of distant applause and cheers coming your way from my desk in Chicago.)

*squeals* awesome cover! i can't wait to read it!

*squee*

You look so cute, Wil!!! Congrats!! What an AWESOME cover! I can't wait to read it!

You're right - that is a fabulous picture!

Nice cover.

Wow.

Makes me want to redesign my site using that colour palette and page layout.

congratulations, dude.

I do believe that's what the kids these days call THE HOTNESS. :D

You ROCK!!! Giddy contratulations!

You are just the cutest EVER. And I can't wait to read it.

If it's not terribly tacky of me to comment -- I feel like "unflinchingly honest tales" is such a mouthful -- what's wrong with just "unflinching tales"? Where the honesty is pretty much implied? Me, I'd even just go for "Tales of..." and leave off the qualifiers entirely. But, anyway.

Man, that cover looks just great.

Farkin' Awesome... I'm totally going to buy your new book! Good job. Great accomplishment! Anne and the kids should be proud of you... I am.

-Coogan

Ah, shucks! Great cover, just one thing missing. I thot certainly it would include something like" "Forward by..." and so I'm still in suspense and want to know WHO, Wil? WHO??

Buy Just a Geek. Resistance is futile!

Great pic, Wil! Wishing you all the success in the world!

Wil, that is awesome! Congrats!

Amazing picture.

Very pure, very human.

Excellent choice.

Many congratulations!

Please make sure to come to Portland, OR for a signing.

You rock, Wil! Congratulations!

Keeping it real,
Elizabeth

Ah-ha, click on the cover indeed.

Did so. Continued to click and type in stuff. Will have early Christmas in July.

Hot. The color scheme even reminds me of the iron maiden jump-suit you used to wear - very chic =) Congrats!

Hee hee hee, you're so funny.

Hee hee hee, you're so funny.

Heya Wil. Congrats.

I don't know if they did a little p-shopping to the neck, there... it looks like your head may not be attached.

I'll be working on the bobblehead animated Gif for the Fark Photoshop Contest.

I'm glad for you having JAG published and the writing and all, I'm an aspiring author myself (although merely 15 years old).

I should say it's my first post here, I found WWdN the day before yesterday (for some weird reason I hadn't seen it until now) and today I ordered 'Dancing Barefoot'. I'll see when I buy JAG :)

About the cover, it's great, the photo seems to have some kind of aura channeling out a mixture of all sorts of feelings, or so it seems to me.

Best of luck.

Sweet!

Cool.

Mine's pre-ordered! I can't wait to get it! Wil, as an author, do you get to see how many preorders there are?

Heather

That's right, I thought it was so funny, I posted it twice... or accidentally hit the button twice. ahem.

Wow! You look great in that photo! I'm not gay or anything, but I could be, with you.

;-)

Seriously, you do look very good. :-)

AWESOME!

I've been waiting for this day. I pre-ordered my copy!

Also, I'm glad to see you reached your goal with the cancer fund!

all I could think was ::squee! The Cure!!::

I think you should have used the picture on the upper left-hand corner of this page. ;)

That cover rawks! How do you do it? Not the talent part. Hell, you were born with that and had the good sense not to waste it. But how do you stay so level headed? You're so good. You have 92/93 good review on Amazon! And You're good! I'd be so fat headed I couldn't get through the door at my favorite pub. They'd have to hand me the Guinness through the door!

Nice pic Wil...but you look kinda pissed.

I like it though. It looks like you have just set phasers to "screw the haters"

Can't wait to buy it.

P.S. - I saw Dancing Barefoot in the Barnes and Noble on the drag in Austin this week. They had it in the damn Star Wars section. I took it and placed it on an endcap at the front of the store for you

That's very exciting Wil!

But I think we're all really waiting to hear who's doing the foreword. ;-)

And yes, the picture is awesome. I'm getting very excited for this book. This is going to be awesome.

Wil. It looks fucking great. I can't wait to read your second book.

Yay, Wil! This is wonderful! And the cover looks great!

Am processing my preorder now...

Wil, you're such a stud.

Pre-ordering now complete.

Wow!! Great title, great photo - looks promising!

Congradulations! Cheers! Hip Hip Hooray! *hands you a Guinness*

Oh...and you can add me ot the list of those who pre-ordered!

May you sell a million copies.

You rule, dude. :D Congrats!

That is so cool!! You should be very proud Wil!!

Rock on!!! Impressive and incredibly cool for you. Can't wait for the book.

Wil, I just had to reinstall my OS and am stuck with 16 colors till I fix my video. But even in this primitive display the cover looks great. The barest hint of a smile, and the eyes, hmm, I've forgotten if they're brown or blue, but the intensity shows through.

Wil- that cover is amazing...! I'm so happy for you and can't wait to buy your new book...and manycopies for friends xmas gifts! yay for you!

I too remember why I crushed on Will. Nice simple cover- hey a picture is worth a 1,000 words!
Congrats and good luck on the next writing project.

SWIT SWOO!!

That cover is fabulous!

Umm... Why do you look like you're out to kill me? *cowers; then goes to beg Dad to pre-order for me*

I absolutely love it. It will be nice to own.

Oooh! I can't wait to get it. Someone above already asked, but I'd like to know, too: Are you going to be selling any signed editions or visiting bookstores to do signings?

Waaaaaaaaay cool. I'm excited to read it.

Wow!
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!!!!
With you looking so hot on the cover it'll definately boost the sales! I can't wait!
Those gorgeous eyes have great depths which we will hopefully discover in the book! I'll be spreading the word- don't you worry!

Congratulations Wil..

That's really cool!

I'll now have to make sure that I read it..

Great Pic By The Way!

*mental note to self: Read this book!*

do you have any advice for want to be writers?

dude. that is freakin' awesome!!

\m/

Please tell me this is going to be released in the UK, otherwise I'll have to move to the US to get hold of it!

No disrepect to Ann, but DAMN!
And on a more serious note, congratulations of the book and on reaching your $$ goal for the walk.

Frikkin' A!!!! Great cover (I'm very minimalistic) and a very complimentary photo, too! (It is, it said that it liked my shoes!)

You're still so damn young looking! *jealous*

Congratulations, Wil!!

Congrats on the book...
But that typography could use a little help. Pick a side, left or right, and try the text lined up. Nothing against whoever did it.

Check out:
Cover

You are too beautiful, Wil!

Must... Read... NEED... Book...

That cover looks great! I'm going to be first in line to grab a copy!

Well done, Wil!

-Matt

TOOOO COOL...so nice to see great things happening to a great person. Congrats and happy trails next month. Wish I could walk along with ya'll but I'm in Texas.

Dude, that cover is awesome! Simple, to the point, and featuring Uncle Willy where his political notions stand: Left of center. Coolness!

Last time I added a Wil Wheaton book to my Amazon wish list, it magically arrived on my doorstep two weeks later. Here's hoping the Book Fairy will strike again, as I've just added JAG with "Must Have" status.

Wil, I can't think of anyone who deserves this recent success more than you. Roll in it, my friend, and ride the wave while you can stay on the board (to paraphrase, well, you!). We monkeys will try to keep the wave's inertia strong...

I love it :)

Anyone else notice the Mona Lisa effect? Is he smiling? Is he not smiling?

Wow! I was so excited when I saw the picture of the cover, I thought maybe you were letting us know the release was soon...NOT 2 months away! Oh well. My copy is preordered. And I guess I will have to be happy with a book cover with a good looking guy on it, instead of his poster hung up over my bed, since I'm grown up and married now,*grin sheepishly*.

dude

sweet
or süßlich like they say where i come from

hope it gets released in olde europe soon too

haha im not old like sum of the people that commented stated they were, so i can say that your so hott :)
nice cover :)

~*Jamie*~

the cover looks great! but i didn't expect it to look so serious. i had always looked up to your humorous side.

whoa!

where can i get the 8'x10' poster?

Sweet fanciful moses. That is fantastic. Pre-order placed, cannot wait...AT ALL.

Oh yeah.

*hustles off to Amazon to pre-order*

Great cover art! I may just have to go out and buy this puppy.

Congrats!

I was *really* hoping it would be that Wil Weaton's Run image. :-)

http://www.geekculture.com/joyoftech/joyarchives/365.html

Wow, such a great photo! Damn, those eyes just draw you in. Okay, I will go and pre-order your book. :^)

You have very pretty eyelashes. Seriously, you do. I love the cover.

I'm sure you'll hit the bestseller list.

If you do have a signing in Oregon, I'll be there. We shall meet again. :)

Is it gonna be out in time that I could buy it and get you to sign it in Las Vegas at the convention?

Are they gonna do a thing like at Grand Slam and give you a table where you will have copies available?

g

i LOVE it!

Hey Wil! Just had to get my congrats in: OMEDETOU GOZAIMASU! Looks great...

-Tetsuo

Wow. Congratulations.

KFA. Amazon said it should arrive between July 8-10. I can't wait.

this made my friday. copied order..now the countdown may begin

Very, Very Nice. Good for you Wil.
I can't wait to read it.

Peace!
Charles

Best.....Cover....Ever....

Nothing original to add but just had to put in my vote: wonderful, powerful, and compelling cover. Hats off to you and O'Reilly!!!

Of course everyone else has already said this, but I wanted to put my two cents in as well:

Hot damn! Great cover, Wil.

Woohoo!!! I love that cover... Really looking forward to your next book-signing :)

Mari

I'm so happy to hear from so many people who like it! I was so happy when it arrived in my inbox, I may have done some squealing.

I will definitely have copies of Just A Geek and Dancing Barefoot when I'm in Las Vegas, and Portland and Seattle are absolutely on the list of cities I'll be visiting if / when I tour.

!CLUNK! (sound of jaw dropping)

The picture sets the tone of the book perfectly.

Oh! Come to Sacramento! Please!!!! Ok, I understand that's probably not going to happen, but as long as you come somewhere within driving distance (The Bay Area, maybe?) I'll be there, with as many people as I can fit into my car. Really, we'll be like clowns squeezing in there, without the makeup or weird clown porno.

Hey Wil. Congrats on JAG. Awesome cover. As a graphic artist, I have seen lots of good design, but more bad design (unfortunately). LOVE IT. Great design. Very clean, quite stark, definitely gives the vibe of "unflinchingly honest tales" and vulnerablity. Like others, it's another reminder for me of why I thought you were hot as Wesley, and like a fine wine, you have gotten better with age, not only in your looks, but as a person as well (corny, I know, but applicable). Congrats to Anne for getting such a great guy. Also, congrats on EXCEEDING your fundraising goal. My sister had cancer a few years ago and it was all taken care of with surgery. I can't imagine what seeing someone go through chemo is like, but I know how scary a potentially fatal disease can be. This is also off-subject, but I just got around to listening to the David Lawrence interview and loved it. I applaud your bravery for reading the Aunt Val story out loud. Awesome job. I haven't read Dancing Barefoot yet, but I ordered it when I pre-ordered JAG. Can't wait until July. Pure torture for me and the rest of the monkeys, but I'm sure it will be worth it.

Nice. Very nice.

I have to say I am really looking forward to the book and reading it cover to cover. I have enjoyed reading your web log (or as all the crazy kids call it, "blog") for about 1.5 years. I have always thought your greatest strength was your honesty and sincerity that comes through in you writing.

I saw you on TechTV the other day; I finally caught a re-run. I enjoyed the show, but I thought you were trying to hard. I know that even when hosting a show you have to wear a persona, but that person is not the person I read a couple time a week on this site. Just my two cents - nothing like a complete stranger criticizing who you are and what you do ;-)

*mouth drops WIDE open*

Hellooooooo Geek. Wow my friend. That is an awesome picture.

*serious moment* What does it feel like to be published? To work so hard on something for so long, wanting people to see or read what you've done and like it and have it happen?

What's it like to chase after a dream for so long...and finally catch it?

Wil,

You need a more interesting cover. This one is bland, bland, bland. It looks like the cover on a tell-all book from a male hustler.

You need a cover that respresents what you are: Clever, funny, introspective. This one shows none of that.

And if you don't believe covers sell books, you are fucked.

Amazon.com Sales Rank: 118! Not bad! Must be due to the nifty cover. :-)

DragonBreath, you are not looking closely enough. :p

F**king Canada ... may be awhile before I can get it, but in the meantime it'll serve as an incentive, something I can reward myself with when I start working again.

:o)

Wonderful! I can't wait for the book to come out.

Congrats, Wil. It looks great!

Wil,
I love that cover. But in my opinion you are such a hottie (shows my age I'm afraid, and yeah that means I'm a bit older than you) HE HE HE. I think you always look great! I can't wait till the book comes out! I want to be the first here to get it.

It's taken a long time to find something worthy of replacing the Argonath as my desktop wallpaper. :)

Wil,

Congratulations!!! I clicked on the picture, linked to Amazon.com, ordered the book--they said book will be shipped July 6.

Beautiful picture but a certain sadness in the eyes. I know there's a smile there waiting to jump out.

Freeman :)

Now that is a nice cover... it makes it more personal and human. I think this will fly off the shelves... smart move Wil!

Dude, I love it!

Sorry I didn't comment sooner, but I saw the Comments (0) mark of a fresh post and didn't want to be tempted into writing a lame "yay first post" message... hahaha ;)

YAY!!!!! Awesome cover! I can't wait!!!!! KUDOS!!

YAY!

Congrats Wil I can't wait to buy it!!!

Congrats, Wil! You should come to Austin, TX and do a signing at Bookpeople. Bruce Sterling had one there last week (granted, he's local, but said that his publisher would've had it as a stop even if he didn't live here) and David Sedaris is next month. I'm sure the O'Reilly people can handle it, but if you need a local contact just let me know. I think you'd get a good turnout.

Thank you, Wil. NOW I remember why I had such a huge crush on you when I was 15. Okay, there's one mystery solved. Now to find the answer to why the hell Jay Tavare's so damn fine...

Congrats Wil!

It amazes me how little you have aged after all these years. Still cute as ever.

I'll definitely add this to my collection. RAWK!

That's an awesome cover! Congratulations, you should be very proud! Can't wait to read it.=)

You look so serious in that book. I just want to say congratulations Wil!

I've placed my order today for the book. Cant wait for july. GO UNCLE WILLY!!!

Will you be able to update us on the amount of pre orders. Would like to see how the book is selling.

Wesley Crusher is on a postage stamp in Australia.

Oh Wow! Thats so great! I can't wait to get my own Copy!

Preordered. Awesomes!

Wil, I look forward to seeing you when you come to Portland. I got the chance to have you sign a Monolith Press first run of DB and I will be bringing my copy of JAG to make it two for two.

Holy. Shit.

You guys, right now, Just A Geek is ranked number 74 at Amazon.

Behold, the power of 50,000 Monkeys.

Awsome cover Dude !!!

Your family must be so proud!

Great cover Wil. If you make it to Australia on your promotional tour, drop in for a barbie!

Wow, it's amazing what they can do with a "digital airbrush" these days....

Just kiddin' Wil. Looks good!

Huh... I'm showing it as 88. I wonder if this is one of those "they change X based on the person" things... maybe ranking "my favorites" stuff higher than they might otherwise be.

Anyway, I'm also showing only one other book in the list that's not OUT YET.

Just the two of ya. Very cool.

You must be Geeked.

Remember Nimoy's book? I'm Not Spock. It was a huge hit in the 70's. Want to bet you're is the TNG's version.

Rad cover, Wil! Also, makes me realize why I had such a crush when I was...Erm...Younger. ;)

At any rate, this is definitely one of those "put my tips in a jar to save up for" occasions! Congrats!

Sweeeeeet!!! What a wonderful way to end a wonderful day. I had a great day! And then I came to check up on the site to see this surprise and it just made me smile even more, despite all the pain from all the smiling that I have already done today. Its GREAT!! Its a wonderful picture and the layout is amazing. It couldnt have been done any better. Wonderful! Just Wonderful!

~*~Lotus~*~

Just look at you! You're so handsome!

Way to go!

Tou sexy thing, you! I am SO excited for you......and for me, I can't wait to read it!!!!!

Very, very cool. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.

Showed the cover to my hubby. He looks up and says, "He looks like a serial killer"

LOL

Excellent! I like the cover...and the book is 41st on the Amazon top sellers list at the moment. Not bad going when it isn't out yet!

In case anyone was wondering, Amazon.co.uk also have it up for pre-order.

Pre-ordered it DIRECTLY (along with a Linksys WRT54GS 802.11g router). I think I'm just a geek myself.

Wil, care to add Kansas City to your list of book tour cities?

I've preordered mine. I loved the last book, I'm sure I'll love this one!

I am very happy to say I have preordered
your new book and ordered Dancing Barefoot as
well.
The Just a Geek is now ranked at 41.
Way to go Wheaton!

Wow in just a few minutes your ranking
has gone up to 31.

As someone making tentative steps into the literary world I have been watching and learning from the progress of your book through your blog and audio log entries.. and I have to say that I hope you don't mind me sharing in the good feeling that comes from seeing the fruit of such intelectual and creative effort. I am sure to harass my local bookseller to contact your publisher and send us some copies ( I live in one of the more remote regions of the Australian outback ) to this here little city of ours.

congratulations mate, top effort
Rick the sentence runner

p.s No not everyone here talks like Steve the Croc Hunter umm actually I'm yet to meet any other Australian who speaks like that bloke.

Wow, that cover is soooo good.

Just ordered my copy from amazon uk, and i can't wait to get my copy and start reading.

Way to go, Wil! More congratulations from Down Under. Verrry nice cover by the way! :D

hmm, it's doing well. It's 26 right now at Amazon. 11:22 am Central.

I'm going to buy it at a book store if I can swing the bucks. Sorry I can't add to the presales numbers.

Just pre-ordered on Amazon UK...

Chris.

11:50 Central Time #23 at Amazon

I would like to point out for the record that going through the top 25 items, there are 4 that have not been published yet:
3) "My Life" by Bill Clinton
11) "Song of Susannah" by Stephen King
21) "Ten Big Ones: A Stephanie Plum Novel" by Janet Evanovich
23) "Just a Geek" by Wil Wheaton

Wow. Congrats Wil!

And oddly, they don't have a cover photo up. Somebody should ping O'Reiley about that (on the assumption that Amazon needs their permission to put up the cover photo).

number 26 on amazon's sales rank....no wait 23,
congrats Wil

Great book.... can't wait! Hope you're coming to Canada on tour so I can meet you and get a signed copy!

Wow. Now THAT is a cover. Thoroughly impressive.

Yes please come to Canada,
Niagara Falls area. I would love
to have you sign my books.

13:38 Central time: JAG is number 21 at Amazon.

Just a Geek has now passed the Janet Evanovich book, making Wil the third-highest pre-ordered author after Bill Clinton and Stephen King. Whoo-hoo!

WWDN readers: A force to be reckoned with. I wonder if eventually we'll get our own market segment? "Stephen King's new blockbuster novel has fallen to #3 with Young Adult readers, but is still climbing at #2 with WWDN readers." :-)

your sales rank at this moment is 21.

I thought you should know.

Congrats

Its to bad that amazon dont accept paypal. Have to wait untill a shop that accept it before i can buy it :(

WOW what an amazing cover.. It just speaks volumes. I still haven't read Dancing Barefoot, but they're both right up there on my list as soon as I get some spare cash!

Now when are you doing a book signing in Edmonton? :)

So, SO cool, Wil!!!!!

Phoar.

Must. Get. Linux. Shop. To. Stock. It. So. I. Can. Buy. It.

This is the book to fill the niche between Harry Potter volumes. :p

Hey, Wil, don't forget to hit Chicago on your big tour. Congrats on everything, it looks great.

Nice. I like it, I sincerely hope it sells well.

I'm going to buy it, Even though you won't be my Orkut-Friend.

WOOHOO!
*does the happy naked pagan dance*

This just in: Despite misgivings that a foreword by Patrick Stewart would sell more copies, Neil Gaiman has confirmed he will write the introduction to Just a Geek. Tonight, actually.

*squee* really?! too cool! that means i can get him to sign that too when he comes to my friend's store this fall & then just stalk Wil til he signs it. ;-)

Wil, how about an official announcement, eh?

Wow, congratulations.....
Looks fantastic, no little wil anymore hes all grown up! (this coming from a 17 yr old)
Anyhow hope it does well

Hey Wil.....awsome cover....can't wait to get the book!

Damn Lil Willie, you've got a HELL of a lot of fans. Congratulations on your success thus far. Impressive how your book is doing so well when it hasn't even hit the market yet. I actually look forward to reading it.

The image of this book is just being begged to be photoshopped! :p

Slightly off-centre Wil, very fitting!

Fantastic to see the cover, can't wait til I can order my own copy!

You should be pround.. we all are!

Lis from Aus :)

Hi Wil,

Quick question...

On Amazon.com it says

Paperback: 200 pages

And on Amazon.co.uk it says

Paperback 304 pages (July 2004)

Any idea why the UK version has 104!! more pages???

Chris.

I have just been sent back in time to my giddy teen years. I have an inescapable urge to giggle. (Inescapeable?)

Anyway, I like the picture.
Sincere, open, "this is ME".
No marks of identity in the photo but your face-no colours, no uniforms, no urban clothes to give us a clue--just you. Good stuff.
And you've always had those wonderfully expressive eyes.

Wowo. *F A N T A S T I C* cover.

Such a thing makes me want to buy this book (and I didn't plan on doing so before).

Wow, congratulations Wil. I can't wait to get my copy!

Any idea why the UK version has 104!! more pages???

Must be the conversion from US to Metric.

Ha! I slay me.

Actually, according to the unbound galley that I've been using for my proofing, it's got 271 pages. I think that O'Reilly gives estimates to places like Amazon so they can do pre-orders, and then Amazon changes the information when the page count is finalized. Maybe Amazon UK was updated more recently than Amazon US, and they added the extra pages because . . . uhm . . . the Queen needs extra pages.

Congrats, Wil! Got my pre-order in!:)

Aaaaaaahhh! This is soooo exciting. It is true, no matter how miniscule a space they take up, front covers and taglines do help me to decide whether to read a book or not. Even though this fact doesn't count for this book (I mean seriously, I would read this book if it had 100 previous owners, had no cover and was covered in coffee and chewing gum...although that would make it have to read).
It even has one of those 'readers who shopped for this item also looked at...' sections. Fact: this is just a LITTLE bit exciting!

Holy sheeps...it's actually coming...it's preordered, now all I have to do is camp out by my mailbox...

I was going to say "best of luck" on the sale of your book but you obviously don't NEED luck. I'm looking forward to reading it along with the thousands of other folks who are by your virtual side.

Larry

you're a babe, but come on! that photo out of all the photos of you in the world??

love the book dood, proud as punch x

wooh, cool!

I shall have to snag a copy to put next to Walter Konig's "Warped Factor" on ye olde shelf. (I totally just misspelled his name, didn't I? I'm not wearing my glasses and I don't want to walk across the room and read the book spine).

So you hittin' up DC for a book signing? Hot as hell here, I'd advise waiting until it cools down and all the tacky tourists bounce out. They had stuff in the Smithsonian Air and Space museum about you last time I checked.

...ok, it was about Star Trek, but you were definetely mentioned. So you should come to DC and sign my copy of your book.
Yeah.

Somewhere in the last few blog entries, you went *squee* over the person who was writing the introduction to the book, but didn't name names.

The person in question mentioned that he really ought to be finishing that up soon on his own blog.

It just rocks so damn much when two of my favorite writers on the planet get together.

Congrats on the book. I'll be pre-ordering as soon as I find my credit card...

I've been waiting for a few days for my computer to get its act together so I can see that cover. RAWK!!!! it's on my wishlist of things to buy when I get out of China and maybe even have a credit card again!!

Woot!! Name above the title. Go Uncle Willy!!!

Yum-my.

I'm with Colleen S! Come East! You could do two cities, two days, one name! Niagara Falls is becoming the Vegas of the East! Not to mention the huge contingent of geeks out here. Come on, with all the snow, what else are people going to do?

Wow. I need to go lie down...

Wow! What a great cover...very intense.

Wil - that rocks the Casbah, man. I can't imagine how overwhelmed you must be right now. Congratulations!

And Neil Gaiman wrote the intro...?! That just could not be cooler.

Just curious - have you/O'Reilly talked to Mysterious Galaxy about doing a San Diego signing there? It'd be so much cooler to see you promote it there than at some random chain bookstore (it's also Neil's bookstore of choice in our city, after all...).

OMG, that is so fucking awesome! Just when I get to the point where you're just okay this comes out and I've got a crush on you all over again. I SO can't wait to read JAG, congrats to you, Wil!

Hottie.

Very very cool.

The book is a mover. I wish I'd checked this list yesterday:

http://www.bestbookdeal.com/amazon-movers-books.html

#8th best mover, up 444%. Probably would've been #1 yesterday. I wish my stocks would do that.

Very Cool!

Congrats Wil! :D

*runs off to preorder*

Great cover, plain and simple, nice picture.

The question I have is: Where's this double chin you sometimes bitch about?

I'm thinking this double chin is myth.

Can't wait to read the book!

Congrats, Wil! Great photo - you're so dreamy!

I want the book now now now.

The image has been added to the second half of the interview (which is in the copy editing phase right now) and will be added to my review of it (which will be live on June 1).

But of course I'm going to get a copy of my own, oh yes, precious. Now if I could only get you to come out to New York to sign it...

Wow, you have beautiful eyes. *sigh*

i just ordered both books! this is so awesome!
look at you! all authoring n' shit!
rock on rock star!

50,000 monkeys at 50,000 typewriters plus one man with writing talent....the formula for a cooly book.....YAY WIL-BUR!!!!!!!
Can't wait fer youse to visit Seattle fer book-signin' and such.....

AAAIIIGGHHH!!!! MY EYES!!!!
LOL
KIDDING.
Great cover! Takes guts to put your face Right Up Front.
Ya look good buhbie.

You know, you were right about the photo. It's top notch. Be proud, you deserve it.

I guess I've got to be the one to say it...didn't anyone else notice who the lad looks like in this picture? All I'm gonna say is that when they cast "Star Trek: The Early Years" I know who's getting tapped for a certain young Ensign, later captain of the Enterprise 1701 no bloody A, B, C, D, E or F!

Let the flames begin!
[he ducks and runs...]

Mal

I loved your book. It's one of my favorites.
