the wonderful, wonderful cat.
Anne and I went to visit Felix this morning, and he just looks wonderful! He's really responding to the medication, and the tech told us that he's been "eating like a pig" all day! Of course, we don't know if he'll continue to improve or take a turn for the worse when we bring him home, but we're hoping for the best. If nothing else, it was wonderful to see him looking just like his old self today. His eyes were bright, and we couldn't see his third eyelids at all. I snapped a great photo of him with my cameraphone, and it should be in the moblog right now.
He was so happy to see us both. He purred so loudly I could hear him across the room, and he let us smother him with love and affection. It's funny . . . he's a very affectionate cat, but only on his terms. If we love him too much, he'll chomp right down on our hands, then turn his back to us, and shake his stump (he's a Japanese Bobtail, so he's got a little stump where other cats have tails. It's pretty cool.) Today, though, he couldn't get enough love from us. We both sat on the floor, and he just walked back and forth between us, rubbing his face against our hands, and really "talking" quite a bit. He was obviously unhappy about the IV in his little paw, but he didn't complain about it too much.
We also snuck in some of his favorite food, which he sort of liked. He was more interested in the gravy, but I was just happy to see him eating.
They tell us the visits from a cat's staff (that's us) can help the cat do better, and it makes me happy to see him, so I'm going to try to see him again this afternoon. I have an audition for a cartoon down in Hollywood, so it's going to be close, but if the traffic is willing, I should make it.
Anne and I are beyond moved by the caring and support, as well as the kind advice from so many WWdN readers. I've heard from many vets, who have given me encouragement as well as suggested some things to talk to our vet about, and I'm very grateful for that.
We took the dogs for a walk up this canyon earlier today, to give them exercise and to give us a change of scenery while we train for the marathon, and I was telling Anne about all the support and caring that WWdN readers have sent our way, and I got to thinking . . . it's an incredibly positive chunk of energy, isn't it? I mean, there are so many ways to make the Internet suck, and here we have found a way to make it not suck, here at this website.
I have always thought that the Internet was about communication, and sharing of information . . . but over the last few years, we've shared more than just information. We've shared kindness, and support, and love, and all sorts of that tree huggin' hippie crap that I wish there was more of in the world.
I hope that people who read this site can grab a little bit of that, and help spread it around. It's pretty cool.
Oh, and this other thing that's really cool: on our hike up the canyon, we walked past a bunch of cabins . . . and one of them was called "Tom Bombadil's Castle." It was under a grove of trees, and everything! I looked for hobbits, but they must have been sleeping.
And thank you to everyone who is helping out with the crapflooding problem. The noose is tightening.

Woo Hoo! First Post??? I, for one, take all the positive energy you give off and pass it out as much as I can./Gazes and smile at his Buddha on his desk.

I'm so glad to hear that Felix is doing better. Yea! My oldest cat is part Japanese Bobtail and part Maine Coon, so he's got the little stump tail going and it is too cute when he wiggles it, especially since he's got the long silky hair. Yea for lil' stumpy tailed cats!
I'm also glad the noose is tightening on the fuck-heads that spammed your comments. I missed that whole drama, but it pisses me off that you had to deal with that crap. Go Wil! Get 'em, Wil!

hey Wil,
I am so happy to hear your kitty is doing better, I will still keep sending the mojo your way. And yes, the internet can suck but like you pointed out there are very good things about it as well. Hugs to you, and Anne, and Felix.

Yay, I'm so glad to hear the kitty is improving. My Isabelle, (or am I her Alice?) has a stump too, and it's just the cutest thing. Bobtails rule! I'm also really pleased to know that all the tree-huggin-jedi-catholic-hippie-crap-monkey-mojo we were all sending has been helpful. You share so much with us, it's only fitting that from time to time we should give a little something back. May the force be with you, Felix, and the rest of the fam.

I'm so happy to hear your kitty is doing so much better. I never had pets as a child, and now I have two kitties I've had for 4 years now, who I just started loving instantly. I would be so devastated if anything happened to either of them, so I'm glad that you're feeling the happy instead of the sad.
Best wishes for a continued get well soon from my two empathetic cats, Bobby (the Popular One) and Peter (the Smart One). :-)

Awwww, little Felix. We'll be sending good thoughts to you and Felix tonight as we fill up our cat Duncan with SubQs. I know how hard it is on you guys. Duncan's spent some time in kitty hospital too. But he's on the mend. Matter of fact, he's back on his tequilla kick. If Felix is up for it, we'll bring over the good scotch. WONDERFUL!! So glad to hear that the Felix Kitty is doing better. And I am pushing good vibes as hard as I can. Im sparing all the ones that I dont need right now. Its good to see people that can have pets and love them and have them love you back. They are like kids in more way than one. Myself and a few of my friends are lighting candles and sending love and light to the Felix Bear in hopes of a speedy and lasting recovery. Animals need love too. And even the ones that we eat deserve respect for giving their lives to sustain our own. So *mojo mojo mojo - love love love - light light light* all for the Felix Bear. And *peace and light and love* for the Wheaton Family to help you through this, and to be strong for the Felix Bear. Animals are like babies, they know what you are feeling and if you are feeling positive it helps them to feel better. =) *positive mojo and lots of love and light* for all of you!

Glad your cat's feeling better. At my job, we had one of our cats get run over and killed by a vehicle and the other attacked by some large animal all within a week so I know how you feel. The one attacked (Chance) has been convalescing at my apartment and is doing much better. Hope yours follows suit.

I crossed a beautiful meadow this afternoon on my way to the the land of kittie mojo, and came to a bridge I needed to cross. There was some dude at the bridge entrance that mumbled some rot about asking me three questions before I could cross. I suggested that he kindly piss off and crossed without looking back. On the other side there were a hundred trees too hug, so that slowed me down a bit, but on the other side of the trees I found this terminal with the good news entry about Felix and a gold pointer on the screen that said, "touch here for five minutes to respond to this entry, thanks for saying please when you told me too piss off, signed "T" "
Great news Wil. my five minutes is almost up....time really does fly when you're having fun.....

In case nobody has suggested this:
Purina makes a special for for cats with Kidney problems. It's called NF. Our cat Chumley at it for 5 years with no problems. Before that, he "ate" (more like distainfully nibbled) Hill's KD, which he HATED. The NF was much, much better. NF also comes as soft food that he liked a lot. We'd buy him a case for Christmas.
On a personal note, Chumley almost died from renal failure in 1996; the vet gave him three months if he didn't gain weight and a max of 3 years if he did pull through. Chumley lived almost 8 more years. He died about a month ago, a few weeks shy of this 16th birthday. During that time, he drank lots of fresh water, and the NF helped him keep eating.
Add me to the people who are sending good vibes to Felix. It sounds like he's getting great care and I'm glad he's doing better.

Hi Wil!
First time poster, long time reader :)
So glad to hear your cat is doing better. I wish you all the best!
Being a fellow cat lover/owner/rescuer, I must tell you I understand the pain when a loved one, even a pet, is suffering. I have a dog as well, but nothing fits in my heart quite like my kitty, Vinegar (my eight year old son named her hehe).
I also wanted to take this opportunity to tell you how much I love your site. I come here often, just to boost my spirits a bit, or to pass the time. At first it was the 'celebrity' attraction, but now I feel I've come to know you as a 'person' and I admire how wonderful you are with your step-children, your wife, family, friends, and even us, who come to your site. I can take the chance to speak for everyone who comes here and say we feel like 'friends' to you, because you've been so frank, personal, honest, and friendly with us.
I've always admired your work as an actor (Book of Days and Stand By Me, of course, are my favorites :) ), and writer, (my birthday is coming up on Tues. and I'm hoping to get Dancing Barefoot!) but now I admire you as a human being as well. I only wish there were more people like you out there, the world would be a better place. Your wife is a lucky woman, she, your children, and your family and friends must be very proud and happy to know you. I know I'm happy you've let us into your life thus far.
Thank you Wil!
Take care,
All the best to you.

Wil, great news about Felix. I thought of him today as we were taking Star and Maui to the vet (Alameda East Veterinary Hospital, the same place you see on the Emergency Vets show on Animal Planet). Glad your baby is all right; ours are doing just fine, too.
I loved reading how Felix walked back and forth between you and Anne, giving lovies at each end. When Star does that with us, we call it "Kitty Pong," and it was how she won our hearts in the first place.
May Felix make a full recovery and carry on for years to come!

Sorry Felix has been under the weather. It's great to see he's recovering so well. It's always wonderful to hear how full of love your life is. A fantastic wife, two great boys, the dogs, the cat. You probably have a plant that leans away from the sunlight and toward you when you walk into the room! You only get that kind of love when you give just as much

Wil,
I am glad your cat is doing better. I too am an animal lover, and I know how it is when your pets get sick...they give you unconditional love and support, and thats something very special.
As to the child porn thing, I read an artical about how the FBI is looking for people who post child porn, and are putting their pictures on the FBI website...The site might be able to help you out...It may be a long shot, but it might be worth looking into.
I hope your Kitty gets better, I am sending it my best wishes!

Glad to hear that your cat is on the mend. Cats are the best. ( I had to cover my two dogs eyes for that last bit) I had two cats up until my birthday last week. My oldest cat Chelsea was just 12 years old when he died. He snuck out and was hit by a car. I'm still trying to deal with that. I urge everyone out there to make sure your cat stays indoors wether it has claws or not. Anything can happen and unfortunately for my bestest buddy in the world it did. And as far as the flooder goes...snap his farkin neck.

". . . but over the last few years, we've shared more than just information. We've shared kindness, and support, and love"
Don’t stop musing about this. I think you really have a point here, that can speak volumes as to what your site truly is. It can't help but to say a lot about you.
Posted by: scriptu | May 5, 2004 03:55 AM
Awwwwwwwwwwwww, The Bear is purrrrfectly adorable! Sending more mojo your way. It's awesome that he's doing better.
And we WWdN readers enjoy sharing in the "kindness, and support, and love, and all sorts of that tree huggin' hippie crap." It's all good.
Love to you and Anne and The Bear.

Great to hear Felix is pulling through! As for the idiots that spam, well thats part of having a popular blog. I don't have that problem on mine (spam or popularity)! :)
Anyway, have a good morning.

First for the unimportant stuff that I still feel the need to say: Tom Bombadil lived in neither Bag End itself nor the Shire. Can't remember exactly the name of where he did live, somewhere in the woods, but it wasn't Bag End or the Shire. However, hobbits were at his house on the way to Rivendell. Anyway, Wil, that was very cool, what you saw. Can you go back and take a picture of it? I'd love to see it. I put that little blurb on the LoTR list that I'm on, so everybody could share. :) I put a link to your site there, too.
Now for the important stuff: Wil, I'm so glad to hear that Felix is doing better! :) Please give him a kiss for me, and try not to sneeze, as I'm allergic...

I agree with what Tim said
Exactly why so many of us keep reading, Pal.
Monkey Mojo, Monkey Mojo, Monkey Mojo, Monkey Mojo, Monkey Mojo...>
that's why we're here dude! Reading your entries is one of the best parts of my day, I laugh, I cry, I al;ways feel something. That's either a huge compliment to you or a testament to how pathetic my life is.....or both.

I'm so relieved to hear that Felix is OK, and that he's being super affectionate. Sending positive vibes his way. :)

Wil, the positive comments and feedback from your readers simply your readers giving back what you give to them. Every post I've read from you is cheerful and friendly, even when it's about something terrible like your sick cat. It's only natural that you'd attract like-minded readers. But basically, all the niceness and kindness and love and other such hippie nonsense ;-) is all your responsibility. You created the environment where it all thrives.
Good for you!
And I understand exactly how Felix acts... My parents' cat acts exactly the same way. It's terribly cute, if occasionally painful. I can't tell you how happy I am that he's feeling better!

So glad to hear he is doing better. My husband and I are staff to our own four fluffy furbabies. One almost died as a kitten (her sister did not make it), and I was totally beside myself. We hadn't even had her a week. I would be out of my mind if any of them were very sick at this point. They are too much a part of our lives. Shadow, Bengal, Tigger, Cleo, DH, and I all send our best get well vibes to him!

I am soo glad to hear that your cat is doing better. I sent all the good energy I could. My husband and I recently lost a beloved member of our family, Maggie Kitty, to Kidney and Liver failure. We spent so much time at the vets and I know how it feels. My husband and I will continue to keep sending good energy to Felix.

If you are still having problems, you can go to http://www.jayallen.org/projects/mt-blacklist/ and download a cool code snippit that you can place in moveable type. This will prevent you from getting spammed and, more importantly, it gets updated frequently and you don't need to DO anything. Many bloggers are using this.
Good luck!

Hi, Wil!
I've never commented on your site before - just lurked around being generally unobtrusive. But Felix's struggle hit a little close to home since we lost our own cat, Zoe, to kidney failure not long ago. A lot of what you talk about is very familiar. I'm glad to hear he's doing better and wish you many long years with him!
Posted by: Elaina | May 5, 2004 09:05 AM
Good for FelixBear, doing better, yay! I can testify that the vets are right; visits from the personal staff DO help a cat recover when they're in extended hospital stays. We had one cat fall ill with hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver); she was in the hospital for a week; we visited at least once every day, and the vets told me they attributed her recovery at least partly to that.
Here's hoping he continues to do well after you get him home!

Dear Wil,
I've been a faithful reader for the past few years, but this particular post really struck a nerve with me. So I actually decided to put my $0.02 in this time.
I understand what you and Anne are going through. I had a kitty who had pretty much the same thing. From the time we discovered her illness, to the time I had to have her put to sleep last year, she had about 5 years. It's certainly not a death sentence! And that was with the shots and everything... Every time her problem would flair up, we'd just take her into the vet's and within a few days she'd be good as new. She wound up living to age 22, until it became apparent she was in quite a bit of pain we just couldn't fix.
Kitties are tough.
Take care, and as long as Felix knows he is loved, all will be well.

A. Hope your efforts lead to convictions. Too many people are getting hurt by those bastiches.
B. Felix the Bear aint being standoffish, it's feline affection. It's a love bite followed by an invitation to smell his anus to see how healthy he is. It's cat courtesy. Cats are traditionalists not through choice but because they can't adapt to any other way.
Hope he goes home soon.

I agree. Last year I couldn't have been more proud, or inspired. After a hurricane took the roof off the house of one of the admins on a forum I moderate, 5 of our members got together, drove to her house, and spent the weekend putting a new roof up. No one got paid, but everyone got fed, and a great time was had by all.
It's great every time we see a virtual community extend it's reach to become a positive force in the real world.

I've only just got the news, I've been offline for a few days due to work and being sick yesterday o.O after giving blood
But I'm glad The Bear is getting better, it's always sad to hear about a member of the family who's poorly, whatever number of legs they've got. Galileo, Gizmo, Temujin and Officer Cookie send their purrs and hugs and we hope he gets better soon. Hang in there Felix, your loyal staff miss you so much!

Hey, Wil, really glad to hear Felix is doing alot better. I had to have my dog, Ruffy, who was a 13 year old, 157 pound German Shepard, put down 2 weeks ago. It sucked. I hate seeing people go throught all the pain. Glad Felix is showing progress! Me and my remaining pet, Fish(yes, thats his name), who is a ferret, is sending good vibes twards you guys.

I'm so happy for you that Felix, seems much better.
I know the heartache that you were going through, i had to have my last cat put down yesterday. It hurts so much at the moment not to have a around the house, getting under my feet, spitting out her food onto the floor (and not the mat the her bowl was on), to show her dislike for the food i 'dared' to serve her. she was 16, had a good life, but oh god i wanted her to go on, i wanted them all to go on. I HATE not having them here. All three were related and they all had tumours in there stomachs but all actually died due to kidney failure. sorry to of gone on
It's good to know that your cats is doing much better

OH WIL..I have been gone for a few days and just caught up with the Felix saga..I know for a fact that this SITE and the "Monkey Mojo" saved my cat's life MORE THAN ONCE.
Raven was given a "death sentence" on Halloween
2003..He is still here...I am positive that is
is because of the love and thoughts of the FANTASTIC PEOPLE THAT COME HERE.
FELIX will be in my prayers...
MONKEY MOJO will NOT fail...

I saw The Bear earlier today, and he's looking great.
The Vet is sending him home late this afternoon, and we'll see how he does over the next 48 hours.
I'll update the site after he's home.
Thank you, again, everyone for your kindness.

Hi Wil,
I know you have copious free time, but I found this comic http://twolumps.keenspace.com/ by following the link from Somethingpositive.
As a fellow cat staffer, I thought you'd appreciate it, and at times like these, I figured you could use a good laugh.
Hope the no news means good news.

I love Japanese bobtails. I hope to see Felix soon. I checked your Moblog and didn't see the pic yet so I'll check again tonight.
Energizing positive vibes to your present coordinates. May the ENTIRE Wheaton family (that includes Felix) live long and prosper!

Glad to hear your kitty's doing better. On the random side, he kinda looks like my old cat Sylvester (which is a real original name for a black and white cat). My cat-like dog sends puppy mojo (since your cat has puppy friends, I'm sure Felix won't mind), but the other dog won't. He's a coon-hound, and unfortunately views cats as dog-food, the one and only reason I don't have a cat right this second.
We nearly lost the larger, not-so-cat-friendly dog to an infection. Had to give him something like 5 pills a day. Doctor said he hasn't had as much luck with the shots, but with the pills you gotta get the dog to eat something, which that illness discourages.
Anyway, long story short, hope your kitty gets better, and much puppy mojo to get your kitty feeling great.

Hi Wil,
Im glad Felix is getting better.Im very Allergic to cats and cannot have any :(
When I had my first Apt I thought I could overcome the Allergy so I went and got a kitten.Im a huge Reba Mcentire fan and named that kitten REBA ( of course )
I was doing real well for about the first 5 months, after that, the dander settled in and I couldnt breathe,I couldnt even get next to Reba kitty without having the watery eyes, sneezing,,I called the original owners of Reba kitty and they came and took her back ..To this day I miss Reba kitty and wonder hows shes doing..
I hope your cat comes home soon, and you can hug and play with Felix.I just wanted to share my kitty story.

I am very glad to hear that your kitty is doing better... I just lost mine on Monday. 15 years old, died of cancer. I do understand how you feel about yours, and give Felix lots of tuna and skritches in memory of my Kiki.

Wil, remember that you can't spoil a cat. They're born that way.
When you get Felix home be sure to set aside some 'welcome home' time for him. An hour or so to just sit, read a bit, and enjoy the sunshine.
BTW, Lair has a weekly "Carnival of the Cats" every Sunday. Yes, he is (just slightly) to the left of Attila the Hun, but anybody who likes cats (he has four, including the fabulous Nardo) can't be utterly without something vaguely resembling a half-hearted attempt at virtue. Send along a like to your latest Felix Foto for the latest Carnival.
