dallas comic con
I forgot to mention this until just now: On Saturday the 23rd of October, I'm going to be at the Dallas Comic-Con at the Plano Center, in fabulous Plano, TX. I'll have copies of Just A Geek, Dancing Barefoot, and the last few preview CDs for the audio book version of JAG. For all you Munchkin players out there, I'll have a very few "Heart of the Anomaly" cards, as well.
Comments
I'll try to be there!!

Man, too bad i live in Arizona and not Texas. I would /love/ to get a copy of JAG on Audio. Sure, reading it is awsome, but hearing it come from you, with the voice and emotion you intended would be even better.

I so totally could've had first post if I'd been fast enough! Okay, that is a redundant statement. I give up. :-?

Very cool. Very, very cool. Brent Spiner and Michael Dorn and Wil Wheaton -- oh my! :) And comics. Quadruple bonus!
Anyone from Austin driving and willing to take a passenger? Life sucks when you don't have a car. (email: angie_bangie47@hotmail.com)
cheers!

Dallas, eh? I'm there, man. Finally some love for those of us not fortunate enough to land in the ocean when we roll out of bed.
Posted by: Dave Lively | October 14, 2004 09:35 PM
I was planning on attending anyway to see the artist behind the comic "The Norm." It's just an added bonus that you'll be there.

I'd be tempted since Dallas is so close to Austin, but I'm still beat up silly from Linucon. *whew* Any other Texas cons in the works?
Thanks again for signing my Heart of the Anomaly card. I look forward to using it!

Sweet. Dallas is a lot closer to me than Austin :).
Posted by: Robin | October 14, 2004 10:54 PM
YES! YES! Just a couple of miles up the road from me! YEA! YEA!
Umm, er, I mean, how nice. Wil Wheaton is coming to Plano.
Plano, Texas. Sigh. The President George Bush Tollway runs right through the city. Just thought you should get a warning.
Looking forward to meeting you in person, Mr. Wheaton --

Ah politics.. here? bleh!
After refusing to vote for either candidate this year due to the fact that they both are just silly. I have decided i'll vote Kerry. We're still screwed anyways, but at least it will be different than just hearing about a stupid war all of the time, and that damn over the top texan accent all of the time.
Bitter? why yes! yes I am. I hate how the government is currently setup. It needs massive restructuring. We have the ability, but the oldies in office don't want to release the old ways. Do you realize that we could get rid of the house of representatives if we, with our currently available technology, utilized the proper tools to allow us to actually represent ourselves and not hire some overpaid self gratifying, special interest, pandering jack-ass to do the work for us? Voting would be as easy as clicking a mouse button or someother form of actuation device for the less abled. Imagine the tax dollars that would be saved!
Really, I think we need to restructure the presidency too. It would be nice to see three presidents in office, each with three vice presidents, who must vote unanimously in order for them to pass an issue. This would work great when the house of reps are abolished becasue we would be in direct contact with out votes to the presidents, and we would no longer be limited to the opinion of one crackhead in office. (Short of a very few presidents, that is all we have ever had thus far. Damn runny nosed twitchety political crackheads who need to figure out ways to get their next power fix to feed their greedy addictions.)

Wil, PLEASE Ebay the 'Heart of the anomoly' cards!!!! I live in the UK, so nowhere near Texas, but I LOVE Muchkin, and would die for one of those cards. I would love it almost as much as my 'kneepads of allure' :-)
Pretty please with a big fat Ebay cheque on top!

This is great news! I've been keeping my eye on the Comic Con website for confirmation that you were going to be there. I love the other actors but you were the main reason I wanted to attend. Now I can't wait for next weekend! I look forward to meeting you in person!

You know I'll be at the con! Looking forward to seeing you there, Wil.

Forgot to mention that I'll be representin' with my WWDN t-shirt at the Con on Saturday. Oh yeah! I hope to get a picture with you...if you take pictures, that is.
Posted by: Sonj | October 15, 2004 04:39 AM
Hey.. what do you know.. there just might be a chance that I can make it... no guarantee's though.
would be cool to see all the TX monkeys again thought. ;) er... and you too.
Posted by: Neph | October 15, 2004 04:40 AM
I assume you are waiting for your Linucon write-up to post a picture of the "Heart of the Anomaly" card.
Posted by: Alan 3 | October 15, 2004 05:21 AM
I'm plannin' on goin', and glad to hear that copies of Dancing Barefoot will be available. I can't find it down here in the state capital.
Ya would have thougth BookPeople would have ordered copies of 'em along with Just a Geek, but no. They could have made a killin'.

I'm going to do my very, very best to stop by, unfortunately that is the very day that my company is moving to our new offices, and I don't suspect that I'll be able to leave work until late at night. Worst possible day in my schedule to be coming... aerrrrrgh! But... if I have time, I'll run in and try to say Hi. We're moving to Plano, so you'll only be a mile or two away. :)
Posted by: Annakie | October 15, 2004 06:32 AM
well I'll be in town on that very day.
BUT I have floor seats to see B-Boys makin' wit da freak freak!
Sorry to be so close by and to miss you (I'd even drag myself into a comic con to do it and that's saying something -- LOVE comics, HATE B.O.!)
Posted by: purvisxiii | October 15, 2004 06:53 AM
I'll see you there, Uncle Willie!!
Can't wait!
Posted by: Ariel | October 15, 2004 07:22 AM
Hey Wil, Plano's still my hometown even though I'm working down in Austin now, so I'll be around. Too bad it sounds like you aren't going to have more time for some poker this time around. ;)

Hrm, we'll see if we can make it down. I'll bring my JAG copy for a signing. Maybe you'll finally get to meet our son Curtis.
Posted by: SoonerWolf | October 15, 2004 07:46 AM
Holy crap, I live in Plano! I think I'll make the effort to get out there despite my disliking of cons (and neo-cons and cryo-cons).
Posted by: Kevin M. | October 15, 2004 09:46 AM
Wow - the last time I was at the Plano Center was for my "find a new job" class after I got laid off. This will be an excellent opportunity to overlay that fetid time with some better memories.

Poker night. Wil, if you do think you will have time for some poker, we have a poker league going on in DFW. http://www.amateurpokerleague.com/ shows the places it is playing. It is just for points, but it is a good game with nice bunch of people. I play on Saturdays as a nice place in Plano.

Hey Kev, do you play at the End Zone? That's right around the corner from my apartment. I played there once a few weeks back.

Hey Wil,
Hope you bring alot of books for us to buy, will you be there all day, I don't want to miss my window of opp to say hi and get a book with a sig. Just wanted to say, thanks for visiting North TX ahead of time, See you Saturday!!!
Posted by: Tim | October 15, 2004 02:31 PM
wil, would you happen to know what time you would be at the con? i'm trying to go, but getting off of work without a time is proving difficult. i would love to have my books signed!!!!!
Posted by: lori | October 15, 2004 02:39 PM
OMG! I am sooo excited! The Plano Centre is like 5 minutes from my house! I am so there! Awesome! This makes me all giddy!
Posted by: Luci | October 15, 2004 04:38 PM
Woohoo! Just made reservations for my hotel room, rental car, and speedpass thingie. Hehe...what's a six hour drive for 30 seconds of face time with Uncle Willie ? Time well spent, IMHO. Rockin' good.

To The Other Wil
The End Zone is exactly where I was talking about. I have played there twice now. I like it. It is pretty relaxed for a urban biker bar.

Ooo!
I will drive up to Plano from Austin to get my copy of JaG signed *properly*! I was first in line at Alamo, when they sold out of the books (including prepaid copies) before I could collect mine! I am not putting that signed 'non-archival mailing label' in a book! I can only afford the gen admission, since I will be pouring any other money into the gas tank!
OT: have you seen this? (Soul Coughing's Sebastian was one of the musicians involved):

See you in Plano!

Oh my freaking GOD. I live in Plano. See you there Wil!
Posted by: Greta Slotter | October 16, 2004 07:59 PM
BTW, I plan to wear my Earnest Borg-9 shirt to the con, so if any of you see me, feel free to say hello.
Posted by: Dave Westbay | October 18, 2004 05:38 AM
Hey Wil, you're not going to be charging money to sign your book/other stuff like the rest of the media guests are, are you? I understand everyone needs to make money these days but I nearly had a fit when I read that it'll cost $35 for Brent Spiner's sig and $25 for Michael Dorn. Goodness! I'm no autograph hawker, just a fangirl getting mementos of my past signed, why so much for autographs?
Anyway, you were super nice at Linucon/Alamo Drafthouse so it'll be a pleasure to see you again in Plano.
I'll be rocking the WWdN baseball jersey. Must identify and group with other WWdN monkeys...
cheers!
Posted by: angie k | October 18, 2004 02:29 PM
angie: Yes, I will be charging a fee to sign things. Unlike Linucon, which I attended for the geekiness and the gaming, I'm coming out to Dallas to earn some money to support my family. I don't charge nearly as much as the other actors do, but I have to make it worth my while to make the trip.
Sorry if that's distasteful to anyone, but it's a reality, and I figure I should be honest about it.

Hey Wil!
Can you make your Texas tour next time down to the 3rd Coast (Houston/Galveston...mainly Houston)!! :) We don't get cons down here. Well we do if you want talk about how Creation cons us into thinking we're getting a SUPER BIG convention and then pulls out b/c of lack of fandom and decides to pull out a "half price sale"!
I look forward to meeting you! Too bad I don't live in the Metroplex..actually I don't want to live in the Metroplex! But too bad you can't come any closer. We in Houston don't bite...yet...We want a little Star Trek lovin' too :(
But hope to see ya in Plano! I am not sure what I will be wearing but check out the "What do you look like (in the tehsoapbox.net (is that right?) under "Nicoledeboerfan" or look up my name. My pic is there ;)
Take care!

WIL WHEATON in person, less than A BLOCK AWAY from my office!!! No way I'm missing it!
Posted by: AngelaO | October 19, 2004 02:24 PM
'Tis cool and very understandable. How much do you charge? (If we buy more books will you sign those for free? [wink])
Well, it's about time we had to pay for our 30 secs. :)
cheers!

Oooh, Wil Wheaton only 10 minutes from my house? That's enough reason to go. That and the two hot women from Buffy.... :-P
Posted by: Ryan | October 22, 2004 09:28 PM
Just got back from the Con. Thanks for coming Wil! You are wonderful! I absolutly have to have your books now! Please feel free to come visit the Great State of Texas again some time.
Plano/Dallas in particular.
Posted by: Christina | October 23, 2004 04:07 PM
Aw, man! That's what I get for not keeping up on my reading. I was in Dallas ALL day and probably could have made it up there.
Posted by: Bubby | October 23, 2004 07:46 PM
Just got done making the five hour trip home from the convention. Wil! Was! Awesome! He filled up the room and by far was the best presenter there. He read a story from each book and his reading was awesome (as always)...I got a huge lump in my throat and had to fight back tears when he read about coming to terms with Trek and learning to love it again. Keep on coming to Texas Wil! We love you here!
