I really love reading about the "behind the scenes" stuff. I love hearing about what was cut, how long it took, and what was a happy accident. I particularly like hearing about you watching yourself with your family. This is this coolest crawl into an actor's head since "Being John Malkovich".

Wil, you're a great actor, at least I think you are. For all I know you coulda been on crack when you filmed it, but you rocked the screen. Sorry about those bruises they gave you, but guess it's part of the perks. :)

i really liked the show...and especially enjoyed your performance...it was so cool hearing from the actor himself...what really goes on to make a scene happen in a television show...fewer people would want to be an actor if they really knew the truth...and you had the bruises to prove it.

That was some excellent moments. I didn't recognize it was Wil until the interrogation scene, and only due to the voice. Man, you play a crazed psycho homeless crackhead very well. Maybe this "happy life with wife and kids" is all a ploy, a cunning ploy to fool us, Mr. Wheaton... :)

Since you were in different storylines, I doubt you were on set at the same time as Stephen Baldwin. That's too bad -- it may have made for an interesting encounter. I had the random experience of sitting next to "Stevie B" on a flight about a year back and he told me all about his (right-wing conservative) politics and tried to get me to accept Jesus Christ as my Personal Savior. We talked for the entire flight (about 3 hours) and the conversation was weirdly fascinating and riveting. My politics are similar to yours, so you might have found him equally entertaining.

Wil, I just have to say that I was more excited to see CSI last night then you. For one, it was my birthday last night and me and my partner sat there and cheered when we saw your name. And when you came on it was great you did a great job. BTW Barrie said that he didn't realize how deep your voice has gotten since ST:TNG. And we really liked your part. We pride ourselves on figuring out CSI before it's over and were surprised that it was obivious as it was. Still you ROCKED!!! Can't wait for the next part...Thanks for the BD present!

Wil, I'm not a geek but I wanted to know more about blogs so I started looking them up online.. I was 'told' that Wil Wheaton had the best example of a blog so I started reading.. and quickly got hooked. I LOVE your writing. It is so expressive and very human! I haven't read your books yet but they are in my top 10 list. Now after watching you last night I will have to move them up.
Never watched CSI before but had to after reading all about it here on your blog.

OMFG, if I hadn't known you were going to be on the show, I would have totally not recognized you. That was some great acting, there.

And I'm really glad you didn't get the smarmy hotel clerk. It'd really be Wesley Crusher in a suit and tie instead of a uniform. I think the backlash could have been hurendous if you had that role. It seems to me this part really gave you a chance to prove yourself as an actor. Not that I'd know anything about that. What would be really nice is to see what you could have done if this was a cable show, you know? Just to be able to go off, that'd be great.

I had to work yet was really excited about seeing this episode... So I set my trusty replay to record all 3 CSI episodes listed for the 10th. Can you believe it? The last one was it!!! I eagerly leapt into my comfy chair and hit play. Great episode! I was enthralled! I WAS DISMAYED!!!! I get to the part where everyone's lining up for the "whack a mole" experiment... and my replay stopped there....

heheh this is really killing me to miss the final part, so if anyone can give me a synopsis of the ending heck or just write it in story mode, it'd make me ecstatic!!!

Excellent job, Wil. Having dodged plenty of Crazy Homeless Guys on the Green Line, I think you got it. Just one question: no facial hair? Just about every CHG has a beard that's so massive it could apply to the World Bank for development loans and foreign aid. Was that a wardrobe decision for character or for practical (ie no one could see your mouth) reasons?

What I'm taking away from this post: Wil Wheaton thinks he looked chubby on CSI. Just can't let yourself have an untarnished happy moment, eh? If Joss Whedon were scripting your life, this failing might make more sense.

Yeah, I kinda noticed the no-beard feature, too, but he was so filthy that it was not tooo much of a distraction. Maybe Walter is not as old as we think he is, or maybe he has a hormone imbalance from the drugs that moves all his facial hair to the top of his head. ^_^

Well, I have to say that Wil was worth the wait. I have never watched an original episode of CSI before, apparently like so many others who wrote before me here, today. As it went on, I kept wondering, "where is walter?" There was part of me that hoped the whack a mole proved Walter to be the murderer, just so they would have to do further questioning... and so that jack-a** detective would be wrong. I learned two things last night... Wil has still got "it". "It" being Intensity and Tenacity. Even more so than when he was on Trek. I will be posting a review on my journal. Just watched my first episode of CSI ever, and I quite enjoyed it. Apart from the oh so cringe worthy 'background extraction' nonsense! Cutting edge? grr.

Gave a little cheer when Wil's name came up, and a louder cheer when Wil turned up. Kudos to you man. Full on mentalist homeless guy. The screen time was a damn travesty when they spent so long with the slow camera pans and background music, but what ya gonna do?

Saying "WHUT?!" whilst shaking and scratching my hand is my new favorite way of freaking people out.

I rarely get stage fright myself, but I was so nervous for you, Wil, that I had to have a drinkie before I watched the show last night. You were so great and scary - and that energy - wow! Huge congratulations!

Wil, I was so excited for you while watching last nights CSI. Heck, I cheered when I saw your name in the credits! :o) After reading your books and blog, it was like seeing a friend of mine on tv!!! Wil, congratulations on your appearance in CSI. The best compliment I can give you is that while your character was on screen, I wasn't thinking "Cool! Wil's here!", more like "This guy really creeps me out.". What was particularly disturbing was the way Walter's hands would skitter across whatever he was touching - it was your body language that sold the character, as well as your voice. Looking forward to seeing you in more stuff in the future.

My office manager and I were discussing the show today. She didn't know you played Walter, I told her you did, the following conversation ensued:

"Nuh-uh. No way was that Wil Wheaton."
"And I would be making this up because...?"
"I have no idea, you're strange like that."

Ok, so, I've never seen your blog before and unlike most people here I'm a regular CSI watcher and sit down to watch the latest episode yesterday. Walter makes his apperaence and I am so impressed with a familiarity that I can't quite place. For a moment I think it's Brenden Frasier, but no, the jawline is too round. Being a busy mom I miss the credits and wonder for a day who Walter was and why I even cared.

Rewind to Wednesday and Hubby, who is a big celebrity buff, surfs the web about new news. Probably since I've told him since we met that you were my favorite actor, he clicks your blog, reads a bit, and doesn't say a thing! >:O

Today, being the nosy wife I am, I check the history to see where he's been. Your name catches my attention so I click the link and read Wednesday's entry and !BANG! it hits me. You were Walter! No wonder I found him so intriguing.

I taped CSI last night and just now watched it. AMAZING! When I saw your name flash in the beginning, I happily anticipated seeing you. Then I saw that creepy homeless guy... I nearly dropped my drink because I couldnt believe it.

For a short performance, it was excellent!

Well, even though my comment is way the hell down here, I thought that your portrayal was quite good. Walter seemed like he was a tad schitzophrenic with the twitches, and it made it seem realistic.

My first thought when I watched the show was, "I wonder what his inspiration was." I know some. I wish I could do the acting part as well. It seemed like you connected with Walter, although it was a short sequence.

All in all... well done! Everyone here in NY that I knew was watching and intrigued! :)

Hey, caught you on CSI last night. Very cool. My wife and I were watching it and all of a sudden it hit me and I said "that's Wil Wheaton!" Good job man, I hope you get more parts.

I told my wife we couldn't miss last night's CSI (something we normally Tivo and watch on weekends) since someone special was going to be on.

So were on the couch cuddling, and Mr. Baldwin shows up and she gave the look that very eloquently said "You call this special?"

Fast forward to few minutes later when "Walter" was in the station and she caught a clear look at your face and screamed (forgive the caps but it's approriate)"HOLY CRAP! IT'S WIL!" directly into my right ear.

I had a busy day yesterday and was only half paying attention to CSI last night as I responded to email, did laundry, picked up toys, planned Friday etc. I caught the Walter scenes and I didn't even remember that it was you until afterwards. It really is a small world, you know. Today I was talking on the phone to the woman who let me commandeer her MegaHuge plasma screen TV last night so I could watch your episode of CSI, and she told me that a mutual friend of ours just got back from a visit to L.A. During her trip her friends took her to a comedy club, where she could swear she'd seen one of the actors on stage somewhere before, and couldn't place him. The name in the program was familiar, but still, she couldn't remember. She brushed past him in the hall where he was signing autographs, and still, she couldn't recall where she'd seen him before.

My host from last night provided the answer for her, as she'd just seen the same guy on TV last night, and had your adventures regaled to her by me for an hour before the show, one such tale being the ACME sketch comedy. Upon hearing the details, our mutual friend comfirmed that it was indeed ACME she'd been to, and saw Wil Wheaton on stage; the same Wil Wheaton that The Goddess of Justice and Vengeance adores.

"Yes, *that's* the guy!" my host confirmed to my friend. My friend said she really loved the sketch with the waiter, and the line about "I was on Star Trek." (At which point she got who you were.)

I am so uber-jealous right now. I'm so going to call her and take her out to dinner and pester her for more details than that! I'm also lobbying Hubby to take me to California (we have family in Sacramento, and Mom wants to visit Disneyland)so that I, too, can go to ACME and pass you in the hall on *my* way to the ladies' room! And maybe get my copy of JAG signed, while wearing my "Wil Has A Posse" cami.

I've only been reading WWdN twice a week for a couple weeks, so had no idea which character you would be. Watched CSI, thinking the whole time, okay who IS he? Honestly, I didn't know until I looked up the cast on line. I'm not an actor, so I'm only speaking as a fan of acting, but that seems like a sign that you did a terrific job.

Damn, I can't believe I missed it...

Long time reader, first time poster...

Great Job, Walt.... uh, I mean Wil!! =)

I don't think I would have recognized you if I had not known beforehand that it was you, except I probably would have probably had this nagging feeling that your voice sounded familiar, hehe.

I just downloaded the clips which were linked above (thanks, by the way!), and I noticed a bit of a blooper after about the fourth time watching the interrogation scene. In the wide shot of the room, your hands are down near the table. When they cut to the next shot from over your left shoulder, your hands are up near your chin. Obviously a nitpick, and it didn't take away from the scene or anything, I just thought it was interesting that this slipped through on a show that usually pays so much attention to every last detail. =)

Here's hoping that success breeds success, and this opens MANY more doors for you in the future! Congratulations!!!

Also, you mentioned that you had a backstory for Walter, Any chance of revealing that to us? I, for one, would love to hear what makes Walter "tick"! Thanks!

Okay, I'm only commenting on this because I'm anal about such things.

The "homeless guys all have beard" comments I have to disagree with. I have seen many homeless men without full beards. Especially where I live because of the high Native American population. Some Asian men don't grow beards either. Also, there are charities and shelters that will give out safety razors and other things. I can see a crack addict being willing to get shaved, but not get their hair cut. If one is paranoid, having your hair cut by someone is going to freak you out more than shaving your own face.

My suspicion is that some people don't think that someone without a beard is homeless and therefore don't pay attention to a homeless person without a beard.

Anyway, it bugs me when people don't bother to check their "facts". *getting down from soapbox now*

I was so sad I couldn't get into your performance because it was like I was watching my brother acting (Yes, you really remind me of my brother, not that I feel I know you like a brother. That would be just creepy on my part.). I have a really low ability for suspension of disbelief anyway, especially since I read everything you wrote before I saw the episode. My boyfriend really liked your part and performance though.

My TV exists for one primary reason: To watch DVDs. The stuff that's on broadcast television today simply isn't entertaining.

However, for the first time in years, I brushed the dust off my TV tuner and tuned into a show, specifically, CSI. I brushed even more dust off my VCR and recorded it.

I fired up my ReplayTV tonight to watch your episode of CSI....

they had pre-empted it for a piece of shit basketball game.

There was not even a minute of CSI on the tape.

I was SO pissed.

I will have to download it.

I have watched all three versions of CSI (don't like "Miami"). None of them are as good as the "original," which you were on. While I joke that part of the appeal is that everyone on that show is so darn beautiful, I think it is also that they are all so pitch-perfect in their roles. I care about every one of the characters & eagerly look forward to seeing their development.

You played on that level, with the same intensity and caring about your role. Excellent job, very good to watch & enjoy.

Also thought it was interesting that the promos hyped up Stephen Baldwin (who I loved on The Young Riders oh so many years ago) & his role turned out to be pretty small as well. You were not even mentioned, sort of like an Easter Egg on a dvd, a little special surprise. Congrats & good work.

Just saw it, downloaded of course (Japan is still on season 1 CSI) great scene, my wife didnt even recognize you, good job!

I have shown your episode of CSI to many of my friends this weekend and we're all hoping that Quentin Tarantino will cast you as the next "Jason" if he gets to do Friday the 13th - the next film! That would be so cool! Only geeks say .....da bomb! You were DA BOMB! BTW - where the heck was Daphne Zunga? Was she the first fligh attendant who was killed? Couldn't figure out where the heck she was!

When I was teaching 5th grade waaaaay back in 1999-2000, "da bomb" was just phasing (no pun intended) out to be replaced by "that's tight!". Just think...5 years from now, some geeky character will utter "that's tight!" and get the same reaction.

Wow! I also saw CSI, and was impressed with your Walter. He was intense and scary! I wouldn't be surprised if you were considered for roles in thriller flicks after this. It says a lot that such a nice guy can be so convincingly creepy. :)

I recently started watching CSI from the beginning on DVD. Since I was on Season 4 when your episode aired, I was reluctant to subject myself to spoilers, but in the end I couldn't resist. I'm glad I didn't and I hope this brings more roles your way. :)

We watched on Thursday, and I was thinking the same thing. "What if they cut his part? Would that like totally suck?"

When I read your name on the screen, I got the butterflies too, just knowing your web site and following along with the whole thing. I'm sure you were a bit more geeked then I was.

MamaSlyth, speaking from personal experience, most, if not all, of the homeless men I see who have hair like Walter have equally frightening beards. Come on down to Licoln and Wilshire and walk around the park; you'll see facial hair that requires structural engineering.

I actually did grow a beard-ish thing, but it didn't read very well on camera. My guess is that it's a combo of the lighting and the makeup.

I also thought I looked a little "healthy" in the face, but I decided that Walter had only been homeless for a few months, so I could justify my Guinness cheeks.

So I am new around here. I had forgotten Wil Wheaton until I saw CSI. My husband said "holy crap, that's Wil Wheaton!" Which was weird because I just watched Stand By Me over the weekend. He told me about this website, which I obviously discovered. I could not have been more excited!! Thanks to CSI for reminding me of a favorite actor that I had missed! Wil, you are singlehandedly the reason I am a total geek lover! I wouldn't leave for a date until after Star Trek TNG was over!! Glad to have a way to keep track of you now!

I know my voice will be lost in the sea of other voices. But I have to say, Mr. Wheaton, that your CSI performance was fantastic. I loved it. Loud, crazy, convincing. Keep up the good work.

OK... watched your episode finally tonight...

Great job! The whole episode was really good and I think it's the first time I've been close to tears from watching CSI...

Walter was scary. If I hadn't seen the opening titles and knew you were in the episode, I think it might have taken me alllmost to the end ofyour segment to realizze who you were... When you were talking and you were offscreen though, I recognized your angry voice as the one I remember identifying with all those years ago watching ST:TNG. Nothing wrong with it, of course, it's your voice, after all.

It's funny, when you do the voice-over for Aqualad, I totally disassociate it with you, even though I know it's you, but when I heard your voice and there was no person to associate it with because you were off camera.... Hey! that's Wil Wheaton!

Great job, Wil. Hope it leads to more and varied TV roles if that's what you wish for yourself. Personally I think you've got a really good author gig going, but I know it's tough to leave the acting thing behind once it's in your blood.

Watched CSI only for Wil's part in it---I thought he did a great job!! However, his time was too short!!! They could have developed the plot more by using Wil and his character more!
