a few cool just a geek things . . .
Three quick bits of Just A Geek news:
- I noticed that both of my books got a little bounce on Amazon when my Slashdot interview ran last week. Thank you to everyone who picked them up. I hope they are worth your time and money. :)
- The Just A Geek charity auction that I blogged about last week is in the last mile. As I write this, the bidding is up to $202.50. That's awesome!
- I saved the biggest news for last: Just A Geek: Teh Audiobook is finished! David Lawrence and I completed a year's worth of work last week. Sean Bonner and I are working on a supermegaawesome cover design, but I'm leaving for the World Series of Poker, and Sean's leaving for the World Series of Not Being Available To Work On The Audiobook Cover, so it won't be done for another three or four weeks . . . but David and I have decided that, rather than make people who've waited a year sit around for another four weeks, we're going to offer a pre-release version of Just A Geek: Teh Audiobook starting at noon Pacific time on Tuesday, July 5th. Because this is essentially a white label release, it will be offered for a limited time, and at a discount. I'll post a link, and more details on Tuesday, when the audiobook becomes available.

Hey Wil, that's great news! Do you know yet if you'll have it available via iTunes?

As I crawl out from under my rock: I didn't realize you were making a audiobook. That's cool.

Okay, apparently *I* am just a geek because, um, it seems that you are purposely misspelling "the" in the title - JAG Teh Audiobook. Is that some inside joke thing that I would have understood if I'd been paying better attention? *shrug* At any rate, that is really cool and I look forward to the official release!

Ok now I have a big red spot on my forehead where I just smacked myself and said, "Son.Of.A.Bitch.". Allow me to explain: about two weeks ago I made the Chris Pirillo Show theme song for his new podcast - he loved it and is using it even now. So I thought "maybe this is a cool niche for me - theme songs". I've been reading your blog for awhile and thought maybe YOU could use a theme song. Then Chris wanted a theme song for gnomedex, but I haven't had time, then I read your blog today...and smacked my forehead. Also, my theme song record ain't so great -I submitted one for Jessica Stover and she didn't like it (but I'm still trying and feel confident I'll get her something worthy enough to be named an honorary ninja). Also a friend of Pirillo at atomicinsights.com wants one, but I feel I missed the boat with YOU. So I got a sore forehead. Anyway if you ARE interested my email is dave@daveryder.com (sorry this is so long, if you read it before allowing it to be posted don't post it please - I would have just emailed you but I don't know about the encryption thing)

Hey Wil! I've been lurking around and enjoying your delightful journal for awhile.
I had never actually read your intro page about the Hooters waitress and how you started this blog.
How funny and sad at the same time! Still I'm grateful that you started your own site because it got other celebs I like too interested in these things.
Now if only some one would kick Elijah Wood in the behind and get him to start one, that would be great. :) If you know him could you do that for me. Thanks!
Anyway, I love your blog. You're a cool guy. Keep up the good work or whatever this is. ;)

I picked up Dancing Barefoot and Just A Geek on amazon after reading your /. article. I got them on Friday afternoon, and read them both back to back Saturday without ever wanting to put them down. Great job W! I cant wait to see what you write next!
...Just a fellow *nix geek, totalfarker, and slashdotter....

I *loved* the Gnomedex reading you did. I downloaded it and burned it onto a couple of CDs. My parents think I'm obsessed with you just because I listen to the aforementioned CDs in the shower sometimes. Anyways I laugh every time I listen to it. My favourite part is Hooters 2.
Ok, now you can ignore everything I just wrote.
I look forward to this audiobook (now that I know about it).

Rock! Teh Audiobook is already at the top of my official Shit To Do list for today! When I wake up, that is.
D00D! Good Luck In Vegas! That must be kinda nice, really, since "good luck" is bad luck for actors. You're not so much an actor anymore, and can now accept incoming well-wishes...

Loved the reading - I'm not usually a fan of biographical writing, but when its read by the writer, it puts a whole new spin on it - great performance.

That Gnomedex reading was excellent and very funny. I love listening to it. As a matter of fact, I'm listening to it again right now.

HI Wil. New here.
Just so you know, if I read more of your entrees and discover you're a rabid republican I will probably never come back :)
When you discribed yourself as the "no longer.. young ensign" you forgot to mention the "very talented actor" part. You were very convincing! You should keep congradulating yourself for that. You aren't a "has been" I look forward to reading your books. Can you find them in stores anywhere? I am in Canada and we are constantly attacked via webmail fraud here. Guess all those crooks think we are too polite to complain :D.
Feel free to check out my blog. I am not famous but that doesn't mean my opinions are valid, or at least amusing ;)

Best of luck at the game.

Hi Wil,
Happy Belated Fourth of July! Glad you and your family and friends had fun. Just like Canada Day here in the Great North it's becoming more and more of a family and friends long weekend celebration. It's nice to appreciate those around you who truly care.
XOXO
Rosemary

I've been tracking your books for awhile now. I need to make a graph for the daily data, but both spiked starting around June 30th.
Here's Dancing Barefoot and
Just A Geek at Rankforest.
(go into raw data to see the rank compilations for each day)
