untitled post number 47
WWdN reader Charlotte told me that my appearance on CSI was voted "Best Celebrity Cameo" by readers of Canadian TV Guide!
Wil Wheaton, CSI 38%I think Walter was a little bit more than a cameo, but any time I get a chance to beat Quentin Tarantino and Swoosie Kurtz, I'm going to take it all the way to the bank.
Colin Farrell, Scrubs 19%
Swoosie Kurtz, Lost 21%
Quentin Tarantino, American Idol 15%
Gerald McRaney, Deadwood 8%
Comments
I think they were all more than cameos. While I didn't see Gerald McRaney or I loathe American Idol, your turn as Walter really made that episode cool.
I'm glad he was just crazy and not actually a killer...

CORRECTION: I didn't see Gerald McRaney in Deadwood AND I loathe American Idol.

I thought #47 was the Larch.
Posted by: vanblah | August 2, 2005 12:06 PM
Now that is really cool. I wonder if there is a US poll for that - it would be great if you could win that too
congrats

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Wil. I was quite happy to watch that episode of CSI, for your appearance only. I'm not a fan of the series, or it's spin-offs, but I do value a good acting performance.
Looking forward to seeing more of you in the future.... Chris B

Wil,
Man, they take surveys of everything. What's next, best celebrity cameo in a solid color? People have too much time. Hope I didn't diminish your award..... :(

Leave it to those Canadians--so darn smart!
Posted by: maycomb | August 2, 2005 12:12 PM
Very Cool. I was tricked into watching Pulp Fiction by my husband who said it was an "Awesome movie. No really, you'll love it." Movies that use the F word for the sake of using the F word never did appeal to me. I guess that cuts out every one of Quinten Tarantino's movies. How very bummed I am about that.

Well Walter was a very good character. You breathed lifer into him and he came out really well!
Deserved kudos for sure :D

Canadians loves lots of things but mostly:
- snowball fights
- hockey
- marijuana
- cottages
- Wil Wheaton on TV.
From the Canadian who loves you, Maria.

(edit: but apparently, we don't pay much attention to grammar. Canadians love lots of things. geez!)
Posted by: mariazmess | August 2, 2005 12:58 PM
Wil,
If you accept the 2nd definition of cameo:
2 A brief vivid portrayal or depiction
Then it works. Even definition 3: A brief appearance of a prominent actor, is a compliment!
Posted by: buntz | August 2, 2005 1:04 PM
Well done you!
Mariazmess, maybe it was the pot that caused your little typo. ;^)

Quentin Tarantino was on American Idol? WTF! It's going to take me some time to wrap my head around that one. What the hell did he even do?
Posted by: CGG | August 2, 2005 2:01 PM
I saw you cameo and thought it was great! I'm glad you won the survey but, I wouldn't put to much stock in it's accuracy. That's 101%?
Posted by: Jonpaul | August 2, 2005 2:20 PM
w00t! very nice.
Posted by: Lanitta | August 2, 2005 2:54 PM
You were not only voted best, you pretty much won by a landslide. In a 5-way contest, you beat out second place by 17%! If the votes were split evenly, everybody would get 20%, and you were the *only* guy who beat the average by more than 1%. You rock.
Posted by: wolfger | August 2, 2005 3:40 PM
Congratulations, Wil! Maybe the award should be titled "best unexpected guest star". Your role certainly was more than a cameo.
Posted by: watcher652 | August 2, 2005 3:45 PM
I like american Idol and swoosie Kurtz, hate Gerald Mcraney and wouldnt vote for him in the first place.
I watch CSI but originally missed that episode and then last week just happened to notice the Guest cast list-Glad I paid attention :)

Get your arse up here and maybe you'll get some full time work.
Posted by: MacBros | August 2, 2005 3:49 PM
You were on CSI? Curses! I missed that episode!
Posted by: Solar Pilot | August 2, 2005 3:54 PM
Beating Quentin Tarantino? Take that to the bank and then get a t-shirt! That rocks. Congratulations :)
Posted by: anthrogeek | August 2, 2005 3:56 PM
Long time reader - never commented before now :)
Your CSI appearance was excellent - you did a great job with the character. And while he was more than a brief appearance - so was Swoosi Kurtz', she had a relatively major part that episode of LOST and was fairly recognizable as herself - you were a bit "under cover" as it were. So be extra proud !!
We Canucks love Wil !!

This is hardly the place to ask this question, but the onion doesn't provide comments. In the latest games of our lives update, it is ended with the quote; Wil Wheaton once caught a hundred pound sturgeon on twenty-pound test. I just have to know if one of Mr. Wheaton's (step)children happened to be nearby with some Taco flavored Doritos and an orange life vest at the time. It would really clarify things for me.

In other nes, my wife and kids just came home with the band new Aqualad action figure. Been looking for the new Teen Titans figure series, I'm glad to see it.

I was going to complain that I missed the episode, but when I went to look it up and see when it was, I remembered the plot. I didn't recognize Uncle Willie when I saw it. I'm going to have to have my TiVo watch out for this episode so I can watch it again knowing what I know now. :)
Posted by: Topher | August 2, 2005 6:34 PM
I hope you had an awesome birthday. Congrats on the poll. Your episode was the only one out of all 5 that I actually watched. So you most definitely rate high in my book!

To paraphrase Tommy Heinsohn, "CANADA LOVES WALTUH".
Posted by: fred | August 2, 2005 11:41 PM
haha, i'm like topher there, i didn't even realize that was you! :D i didn't see the entire episode, but i did see a bit of walter, and i wondered why he looked so familiar! hurrah for wil!
Posted by: nkicroft | August 3, 2005 2:00 AM
In my book, you beat all of them hands down...all the time! Heck, I made my 12- and 15-year old watch you on that episode, too. We are an "I Love Wil Wheaton" family. Hmmm...maybe we should get that on a T-shirt?
GLAD you had a nice (unwired) bday. Blessings to you and your family from my family.
Posted by: Bev Walton-Porter | August 3, 2005 3:28 AM
Dude, you totally kicked ass on CSI! Colin Farrell is a prettyboy putz, Tarantino is full of himself, and I have no clue who Swoosie whatsername is at all. Mad props for beating out a quality actor like Gerald McRaney, though, that's pretty f'n cool!
My only gripe about that episode was the wait endured until the introduction of Walter. But you pulled that off pretty well, and I'm sure the suits at CBS are paying attention to trade pubs (yes, even Canadian TV Guide) to keep tabs on what's hitting the demographics.
Just remember: They gave you Walter because you have talent. You earned that part, and no matter what the polls say, it's a performance you should always be incredibly proud of.
/hoping for a Wheaton sitcom...
//or hoping for Wil on Who's Line...
Posted by: Eric in PA | August 3, 2005 4:47 AM
I still haven't seen it. Channel 9 here in Melbourne, Australia have stopped showing CSI mid season. I'd been counting down the episodes, and just as it became the very next episode the decide to put movies on instead! It's so frustrating, it's the very next one due to air.
Grr.
Posted by: crystal | August 3, 2005 5:47 AM
Duh, Wil, of course you won! Nobody else can play a crazy homeless guy like you can, man.
Also, Eric's comment made me realize how totally fucking awesome it would be to see you on Whose Line! Think about it.
Posted by: Ericka | August 3, 2005 7:22 AM
being new to this blog, i didnt know you were on csi.
ironically, i watched csi religiously until the reality seasons kicked in. Anyway, i was very disappointed to discover that i missed this episode. i am aquiring it as we speak and i am giddy about watching it tonight. Im counting the days untill Wil is back on the big screen. 33 is the perfect age to start the big comeback! HEY WIL, do it
Posted by: Buckaroobonzai | August 3, 2005 8:04 AM
Oh, booger - Shadowtwin beat me to what I was gonna say here. Much
Posted by: Kilbia | August 3, 2005 3:33 PM
Of course you were voted #1, was there ever any doubt?
Posted by: JeremyJaySharp | August 3, 2005 5:53 PM
Hi Wil,
Yes, I thought you were really great in that episode.
It's been quite a while since I've visited...nice hair.

Cameo? mmmm, well since the episode you appear in hasn't aired here in Australia as yet I can't "really" comment but from what I've read here on your site it sounds more than just a cameo, but that's the media right!?
As my Mum would say, "its another feather in your cap".
Go Wil. :-)

Hey Wil,
Glad we could put you at the top of the polls. You deserve it.
All the best.
Posted by: 1cutebird | August 4, 2005 9:37 AM
cool, i aint seen it yet but aint really a csi fan to be honest!
Posted by: supersimbo | August 4, 2005 10:21 AM
not only did you beat Quentin Tarantino and Swoozie Kurtz, but you ALSO beat Colin Farrell! not many people can say that!
Posted by: shewhobeatsass | August 4, 2005 11:48 AM
Canadians love you, eh? We have good taste.
(Or maybe it's CSI we like. I didn't vote because I didn't know about the poll, but if I'd known I'd have voted for you.)
Posted by: AT | August 5, 2005 11:13 AM
i think the term "celebrity cameo" implies that you are such an enourmous star...that they were lucky to get you to agree to appear in an episode of their show for even a moment...and you only did it because you love CSI...otherwise it just wouldn't happen...because you simply don't do television.
that's kind of what i think when i see the term "celebrity cameo"...so ride with it man...you're enourmous!
Posted by: d. burr | August 6, 2005 10:05 AM
Skipping from #19 to #47; impressive.
I've always wondered whether the Star Trek people know where the 47 obsession came from... and by always, I mean since 1999. Now I can ask. Do you?
I would have voted for Colin Farrell but that's because I like Scrubs more than I like CSI. I certainly had a crush on someone played by you more than a decade before I had a crush on someone played by Colin Farrell... does that help? I hope it helps.
Posted by: Stepha | August 10, 2005 9:39 PM
Colin Farrell never stood a chance.
We only just saw that one down here (NZ) you did a great job!!
