It's amazing the things you can learn from the Wikipedia.
During a bit of research just now, I ended up at The Mullet. The list of well-known people who have worn The Mullet over their lifetimes is quite impressive. Here is an incomplete and randomly-ordered sample:
- Jaromir Jagr - Hockey player. Used the mullet most of his carreer, but changed to short hair in late 1990s. His point totals have dropped since getting rid of the mulllet.
- James K. Polk - U.S. President in the 1840s. Appears with a clearly defined mullet in most photographs
- Keith Richards - spent the Rolling Stones' peak years in a mullet.
- James Hetfield - musician; lead singer and rhythm guitarist for Metallica. Many would see Hetfield's as the mullet that finally put an end to their acceptability. In 1995 his mullet was one of the most extreme mullets featured in the Beastie Boys' article, with very short top and sides, and perhaps without such a high profile proponent, the Beasties might never have been moved to write their article. His cutting of his mullet in 1996 was taken by many fans as a sign that he had sold out.
I'm Wil, your guide to the world of facts. (With apologies to Futurama.)
Ah, one more bit of praise for WikiPedia: A few months ago, I noticed that there was an error in my filmography there. I posted about it in my Slashdot journal, and the error was corrected within ten minutes. Contrast that with my entry at IMDB, which contains numerous errors. I've repeatedly contatcted IMDB to get the errors corrected, most recently over a month ago. To date, the IMDB has never responded to my requests, either via e-mail, or by editing the content.

Shaq had the same problem when he shaved his pimp-stache. Also Ben Wallace and the crazy-hair seemed to have a corrolation during one of the Pistons' recent playoff runs. It's the Samson effect, man. Gotta let your freak flag fly.

I think you have to pay for IMDB Pro to get anything resembling reality, plus all the neat-o and profound user comments.

what assholes at IMDb. I saw a man with a mullet the other day at Disneyland and wanted to get out some scissors and chop off the back. It was sick.

Looking at the Bibliography section, I noticed Stories of Strength. I hadn't heard of it. Did Wil ever mention it here?

Yeah, IMDB is notoriously inaccurate. I've found quite a few inconsistencies and mistakes on there. I don't know what to suggest... I think Matthew Cox up there might be right... You might have to go for IMDB Pro before they'll do much. :oP

My daughter appears to have a mullet when her hair is wet.
Why post something on /. about an error on Wikipedia? Just fix it.

Has a broken link where Wikipedia is cited as a reference.

I posted it in my /. journal because I was under the impression that editing your own entries at Wikipedia was frowned upon. I figured that the odds were quite good that someone at Slashdot would also be a Wikipedia editor. I was right. Ding!

I vote to bring the mullet back so today's children won't be deprived. Ahem...Wil, you're up. :)

In your photo in the Wikipedia entry, you're wearing a Tsunami Bomb shirt! Joy!

Your first name is Richard? For some reason, I thought it was Wilber. Did I read that somewhere? Don't know.
The only thing I go to IMDB for is to see how tall people are. I'm obsessed with that. It comes from once being the tallest person in my class to, by my senior year, being the shortest. I'm 5'8". Needless to say, my class had some of the tallest ever.

if you like music and wikipedia and how quickly it can be updated, you'd probably love www.musicbrainz.org and i do believe that metabrainz is also working on a moviebrainz site as well

Of course one cannot forget the originator of the 1980's style mullet ("Business up front-Party in the back") is none other than Saint Bono of U2. Then again, I live in the south, birthplace of the mullet.
BTW-- Happy Thanksgiving!!

OK, check out this tie-in comment.
IMDB, they say (they being the powersezes that be at IMDB) say that it's user maintained, but it's pretty damned hard to figure out how to do it all. So when you try to contact them, they give you bupkiss.
How do I know? My cousin is in the movie Slap Shot. He plays Nick Brophy (I'm gonna piss all over myself).
OVer at IMDB they used to have his name listed as Johnny Gorfton. Well, it's not Gorfton. It's Gofton. I sent them and email and they explained to me the somewhat cryptic manner in which errors are corrected. I just checked, at some point in the last 3 years they finally decided to change it.
John never really had a mullet tho. He looked more like Johnny Rotten.

Or something.

My entry at IMDb was missing some stuff, the first time I corrected it, it appeared in about two weeks. I'm still waiting to see if any of the other stuff gets updated. I think if you pay for the pro service they update it pretty quickly though. A bunch of my friends did and they can almost get corrections done immeadiately...
