Three's Company was based in San Diego, not LA.
(although, to a San Francisco native like me, it's all the same "SoCal" anyway :) )

Sorry, Michael, but you're not quite right--and Wil was HALF right. "Three's Company" was set in SANTA MONICA. It is immediately West of L.A. on the beach. Don't you remember the opening credits? Jack is riding on the bike path and he trips himself over seeing some hot women? That was on the bike path in Ocean Park. That's the beach section of S.M.
I have fond memories of a lot of what you have on your list too, Wil. But where's Helm's Bakery? Maybe they were already gone since your're a BIT younger than me. I can still remember the smells of Helm's Bakery truck with their maple bars and custard pies. After all these years I can still taste it!

I beg to differ. :) Actually, while the *filming* of Three's Company took place in Santa Monica, the show and its characters were based in San Diego:

Oh my gosh! Emergency! !! I totally loved that show. I was the only girl in my first through thrid grade class to have the lunch box. I was so proud of that lunch box...still have it to this day, 25 or so years later.

The pilot took place in a triplexed apartment area in North Hollywood, called the "Hacienda Palms", but the main series was at an apartment house in Santa Monica.
and
The exterior shots of the Roper's apartment was an actual corner apartment-house in Santa Monica. Permission was obtained by the owners for filming rights.
But San Diego has, uh . . . Sea World! Yeah! Go San Diego!

I could do it for New Orleans, but I can't think of four TV shows...or four good movies. As in "movie that doesn't show Nawliners with super deep Southern accents." We sound like we're from Brooklyn, actually.

After reading all these comments, I want to go to the beach (which is unlikely to happen for months). I must say, it made me happy to see that Alias made the list for tv shows. The first two seasons or so were great...even if things have gone downhill more recently.

Hey, Wil, do you know "Hamburger Rock" in the San Gabriel mountains? :) I actually lived in SG for a couple years when I was 6 and 7, and we would go up to the catfish fishing place and feed the fish, and then on up to a little tavern type place in the mountains every now and then. I remember playing Asteroids on the arcade machine they had there, and we'd have a sandwich for lunch.

Umm, what about the Apple Pan - which is (was?) on Pico in West LA - right near where Captain Video & the Picwood Bowl used to be (i'm going back to the early 80's when I lived in LA).
I have fond memories of going to the Apple Pan with my dad.
