Well, Monday is pretty much over, and I haven't heard anything yet about the possible hosting gig.
This waiting to hear thing? Yeah, it's never any different than this. I could either obsess that the lack of new information means they've gone with another Kimmel cousin, or the lack of new information means that nothing has changed since last week. It's a very Schrödinger's Cat situation, and I'm happy to leave the job in a superposition until I get a chance to observe the results.
To help pass the time until I hear something, here's a picture of a squirrel with huge nuts:

Comments
I've still got my fingers crossed.

Well, er.....that pic is just nuts..Big hairy..
When is the last time Wil had a vacation?
Posted by: Pookie | March 20, 2006 06:06 PM
All kidding aside, it's really cool that so many of you have sent e-mails or comments about the (lack of) news. Thanks, everyone.
Posted by: Wil | March 20, 2006 06:07 PM
Always here for ya, Wil. Although I do have to second that inquiry about your last vacation. Still hoping you get the job though. And get away for a while.
Posted by: shauna | March 20, 2006 06:12 PM
If I were in LA, I would walk over to your house and hug and cry with you. You have my sympathies, Wil. : )

(Damn Wil, that squirrel is like a car crash...Can't. Look. Away)

I wait with crossed fingers it would be totally HAWESOME if you go this gig.

I just posted over on the James Brown post asking for an update...so, thanks :)
I gotta say, I'm more than ready to see WW back on TV. I think, from the sound of it, this gig would be perfect. I'm assuming as a "host", we'll mostly be getting your personality as much as the script, etc allows. It'd give a wider audience a chance to see what we see.
After following your blog for a couple years, and recently nickerblog, and JF, I get a better idea of the people behind the whole "actor" stereotype. This stereotype that everybody goes out to Hollywood looking for fame and fortune, just doesn't match up with the genuine love of acting, performing, entertaining that I pick up from yourself, Shane and Annie. It's a shame that there's not as much focus on the passion involved in acting. Just today I was reading Shane's post about getting a commercial job, and you can just tell he LOVES what he's doing.
This has become a complete ramble, but it's just frustrating that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie got 3(?) seasons to trot around being complete idiots, but yet three funny, intelligent people can't get at least equal opportunities? WTF?
Posted by: Macharo | March 20, 2006 06:39 PM
LOL!
Olde.
Posted by: starshine_diva | March 20, 2006 06:47 PM
Jeez, but I hope you get this gig. You know you deserve it, and everyone here will gladly rampage if you don't. I guess I'll agree with the others and say no news is good news. We're still all pulling for you, Wil.
As for the squirrel... Well, that was different. Bet if he cooked then, that wouldn't be a small meal. =D
Posted by: Nicole | March 20, 2006 06:54 PM
**cooked /them/ (dammit)
I hate typos. But I love that I'm making them on your site. Nowhere else I'd rather mess up, you know. *crosses fingers for you, and not for the first time*
Posted by: Nicole | March 20, 2006 06:55 PM
Gotta love the classic Farkisms. They just never get old. I hope you hear good news soon!
Posted by: kaellinn18 | March 20, 2006 07:08 PM
Lol! At least you did not post Cliche Kitty. However, Mustard man would definitely work here to. Go Farkism Go!
I'm still pulling for you Wil!
Posted by: towers16 | March 20, 2006 07:37 PM
Ahhhhhh pr0n. Thanks.
Now if only they made "Hang in there" kitten posters with huge nuts.

Makes you wonder if he's the Heffner of teh squirrel world...
All weekend I kept saying "Is it Monday yet?!" and threatenting to hit F5 over and over and over...
And now this. Nuts.
Posted by: jhankins | March 20, 2006 07:59 PM
What did you read Martha Grimes' latest mystery too with the Schroedinger's Cat reference? Maybe I'm just noticing that phrase for the first time.
Posted by: Muzenews | March 20, 2006 08:08 PM
Eigenstate?!? What a perfect word to describe your situation. Did you pick it up from Danica McKellar?
Posted by: Sweet Chuck | March 20, 2006 08:08 PM
I prefer to think the cat is alive. Hang in there Wil. We're out here cheering for you.
This reminds me though, I need to buy the cat shirt from thinkgeek. I can imagine trying to explain it at work.
Posted by: Tony Miller | March 20, 2006 08:18 PM
That HAS to be photoshopped... the squirrel's nuts are almost as big as its head. Funny though :)
Posted by: mirkrim | March 20, 2006 08:21 PM
Nothing ever gets on Mondays... That's what I tell my boss anyway... Fingers crossed.
Posted by: bec (havucnmycaml) | March 20, 2006 09:32 PM
Wow. Just wow. That squirrel disturbs and amuses me at the same time.
Still hoping on the best for you, Wil. :) In less eloquent terms, the waiting game always sucks much ass.
Posted by: Denise | March 20, 2006 09:50 PM
Oh, will. You bring my a little bit of joy into my life. That picture never made me laugh so hard before.
Posted by: theCurse | March 20, 2006 09:57 PM
I promise I was not drunk on during that comment. Just stupid.
Posted by: theCurse | March 20, 2006 10:05 PM
God damn it, Sal.

Squirrel Nuts - but where're the zippers?
Posted by: OhBlahDah | March 20, 2006 10:25 PM
Waiting is no doubt part of our karmic debt, but thanks so much for the visual! After the day I've had the last two days, I so needed that laugh. So once again, good thoughts to you, Wil.
Posted by: magdala | March 20, 2006 11:02 PM
The tail always makes me thing that squirrel has some sort of spikey mane or something. Punk squirrel with huge nuts.
Posted by: Anna | March 20, 2006 11:32 PM
I'm still going to think positive about the job until I hear otherwise. Can we start a writing campaign and bombard them with requests for you??
And about that squirrel... I'm sorry, but.. ewwww...
Posted by: alicein1derland | March 20, 2006 11:55 PM
Wil, you make your fellow TF'ers proud! (The squirrel also made an appearance on Drawn Together this season).
As for the job, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! Even though if you get it, the chances of me being able to see this show in Dublin are somewhere between slim, and none.
Posted by: Ryan Waddell | March 21, 2006 01:29 AM
I am also waiting to hear on a job. This is a frustrating process. I give you credit for functioning in the rejection filled world that is Hollywood.
I am holding out good thoughts for you and your family that you book it!
You are a great and thoughtful guy, keep writing.

All Your Base Are Belong to..... OH nevermind!

Fingers continue to be crossed for you, Wil. Man, that squirrel's got some huge nuts. I am wracked with envy and glee!

Don't hear too many references to Schrodinger's Cat, that makes me happy deep in my geeky soul. As for the squirrel with the huge nuts- that's hott.
Posted by: Digital Goddess | March 21, 2006 07:06 AM
this is my first time here, and basically i'll admit that i pretty much assumed that you HAD in fact fallen off the face of the earth. i admit very frankly that i'm glad you haven't, because your site is one of only twelve things on the internet worth reading. i've checked. also, when i was in high school i wrote a song with my band called "wil wheaton vs. wes crusher", in which wil wheaton triumphs and enjoys processed foods, summer days, and not having to wear the gray "here's my package" suit. if you ever wanted to hear it, you may. if you didn't want to hear it.. well, i don't think i would blame you. it's pretty bad. anyway, YOU GO wil wheaton. hope your job works out.

so my two year old son finally falls asleep for his nap...and i take out the laptop and fire up a $5 sng...things are fine..im playing well..on the bubble...and alexander wakes up...i listen to his crying for not even one hand...and he comes out of his bedroom...walks up to the bed...
and closes my laptop.
wait a sec...is this the place for a bad beat story?
Posted by: saa | March 21, 2006 09:40 AM
So wait a minute. Wil is in a state of uncertainty about the job. But *we* as blog readers know that, by now, he may have heard about it and just hasn't gotten around to posting the outcome (hopefully positive). As such, doesn't that mean that we are in a state of uncertainty about a state of uncertainty? That's the kind of logical conundrum that could make your head asplode.

It's tough waiting for that call. Have you checked that the phone is working? Picked it up and listened for the dial tone? I have done all those looney things while waiting for a response. I keep checking your site in the hopes that you will be writing about the good news!
But this is a quality problem.....would you rather work in and office?
Dom Portwood: Hello, Peter. What's happening? We need to talk about your TPS reports.
Peter Gibbons: Yeah. The coversheet. I know, I know. Uh, Bill talked to me about it.
Dom Portwood: Yeah. Uh, did you get that memo?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah. I got the memo. And I understand the policy. The problem is, I just forgot this one time. And I've already taken care of it so it's not even a problem anymore.
Dom Portwood: Yeah. It's just that we're putting new coversheets on all the TPS reports *before* they go out now. So if you could just remember to do that from now on, that'd be great. All right!
I am rooting for you!

Is it possible that the blog's high profile presence serves as intimidation for the execs at SciFi? Could this be a factor in their decision?
Pondering questions like that can drive anyone to drink, forgive me.
I certainly hope you get it, Wil!
Posted by: ErkDude | March 21, 2006 10:40 AM
It would stand to reason that the website would be a boon to the execs. Before they've aired a single promo or even taped a single show, there is already a fan base and they already have people interested and anticipating the show (hosted by Wil !!!)
I can't think of a better person to have the credibility to do Sci-Fi/Geekdom proud and do it with the proper respect, humor and fun it deserves.
Keep on keepin' on, and if all else fails, kill time cleaning out the garage. If anything can make waiting around for the phone to ring seem more appealing, it would be Option #2 being "Clean out garage".

I dunno about the rest of you, but I'm dying to ask the next question on my mind: Will the show have a studio audience?!
Posted by: jhankins | March 21, 2006 11:49 AM
Waiting to hear about a job is the worst. For the person waiting it may be the most important thing they are thinking about. But for the person making the decision, they've got a billion other priorities, and an extra day means nothing to them. Even an extra week.
There's nothing good or reasonable about it. But for those of you who do hiring, remember that the people you talk to deserve the courtesy of prompt answers. Maybe the next time it's your turn, the karmic wheel will be on your side.
In the meantime, Wil ... we're sending the good mojo in your direction.
And the squirrel thing is just wrong. *laughs*
Posted by: justme | March 21, 2006 02:22 PM
The squirrel proves that you are what you eat!
Posted by: Joe | March 21, 2006 02:41 PM
Hey Wil. We're all rooting for you here in UK. Really hope you get that gig. I'd die for it. To get paid to talk about sci fi!!!!
But at least we all know what Secret Squirrel's secret was all those years ago!
Posted by: Julian Owen | March 21, 2006 03:08 PM
That squirrel is just disturbing on so many levels... ;)
Posted by: Mr. Steve | March 21, 2006 03:17 PM
That is absolutely hilarious and totally unexpected! I laughed my ass off. Thanks.
Posted by: LeahJ | March 21, 2006 03:44 PM
Can we all only hope that Wil has been quiet today because he had to run off to the producers to sign contracts or something? Or at least do another round of auditions with the co-hosts to see who was going to work the best with thim? Fingers crossed!
Posted by: fitzwillie | March 21, 2006 03:57 PM
Everytime I hear a Shrodinger's cat reference now, it reminds me of the Stargate SG-1 Episode where Sam gave the Tolan a cat (which is linked to in one of the sections in the Wikipedia entry you linked to). And about the show - I'm hoping along with everyone else that no news is good news and that you get it, because it would so rock.
Posted by: kblue | March 21, 2006 04:43 PM
What's the big deal? Some squirrels have big nuts! He's hung about as well as the one that lived in our old back yard. (And he knocked up a female every spring, I'd see the evidence of lactating every year. Or did I have too much time on my hands then?)
Posted by: Julia | March 21, 2006 07:20 PM
Bender: Oh Claire, would you ever consider dating a guy who looked like this?
Claire: Can't you just leave me alone?
Bender: I mean even if he had a nice personality and a cool car... although you'd probably have to ride in the backseat because his nuts would ride shotgun....
Posted by: Pookie | March 22, 2006 09:15 AM
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the origin of that squirrel pic:
