race for the cure fundrasing results

When I posted about the Race for the Cure last Sunday, I hoped that I'd generate $500 in donations, but I expected to get somewhere closer to $200.

I am so pleased, and so thrilled to announce that WWdN:iX readers joined together to contribute eight hundred and twenty-four dollars to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in Los Angeles County.

I love the "distributed fundraising" part of this whole thing. Thanks to the Internets, I was able to reach more people, more easily, and more quickly than if I'd sent out a ton of paper letters, or walked through my neighborhood knocking on doors. In fact, some of you even sent donations from Great Britain, which arrived here almost instantaneously thanks to Pay Pal. Ten years ago, that wouldn't have been nearly as easy as it was this week, if it was even possible at all. You know, we can make a very positive difference in the world, simply by coming together when we have an opportunity to build something that's greater than all of us individually.

For those of you who wanted to be part of this, but couldn't, our friend Kris is back in the hospital, so Anne and I are doing the Rock and Roll Marathon again this year, and our fundraising is just about to get started. This year, we'll have a blog dedicated to training and updates, as well as some in-person fundraisers in Los Angeles and some virtual fundraisers online (poker tourneys, eBay auctions, etc.)

Thank you all for your kindness, support, and generosity.

Way to go on the money raised! That's awesome too about the marathon. I was just now looking in your photo gallery at your WWdn blog and saw where you and Anne had done the marathon before and the 3 day thing for breast cancer. It's truly inspiring. I used to do races and then about 10 years ago got away from it. But seeing your pics and reading what you've shared about it all, has inspired me to want to get back in to it.

Could you please include a snail mail address on the future ones?? (a PO box would be great because I really don't want to stock you or addy that we could send in & say to include on your name)

Thanks for taking the time to help out with a great cause. My mom as well as two close friends under 30 are currently being treated for BC...so please let me know if you do another tourney that I can be part of. And on an unrelated note....so are you gonna judge the cook off or what?!?!

Poker tourneys? Did you say poker tourneys? Sign me up.

All I can say is, thank God for big slick nuts.

Awesome. Freakin awesome. That's great, Wil. As for the race, I donated, and I'm going to include it in my blog. I'm going to encourage my own readers (extremely small group that it may be) to donate. I really hope that you reach your goal. Keep us posted!!

Wil,

I read your info about the 3 day walk thing, how your friend has cancer again (or had it - not sure if she still does)... anyways, I think it's awesome what you and Anne are doing (since your friend had to have surgery and such again, but had said she'd never do it again)... etc... and how you and Anne didn't want to do the walk again.. etc

Anyways, I was so touched I donated and I'm going to email the link to my friends to see if they'll donate too.

I liked your title "50,000 monkeys can come up with $50,000".. so true! And I plan to let my friends know that!

Keep up the good work. You are so encouraging and inspiring.

Good luck on Marathon 2.0 and thanks for the reminder about donating, I'm finally doing it now.

Is this the RNR Marathon in San Diego? I'll be out there all the way from Atlanta. Perhaps a WWDN Meetup is in order?

Good luck with your training.

Wil - A pleasure always.
I am honored to have been able to help.
Please just let me know when you want donations again, and I will be happy to donate :)
Thanks for the shout outs :)
Good luck on everything!

Wil -- My last marathon was 2003, but I'm eager to get back into it. My favorite marathon has always been the Walt Disney World Marathon in Orlando in early January, but now that I'm in the poker industry it conflicts with the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. (And that's a tough assignment to pass up.)

I ran the San Diego Marathon back in 2000, and I'm hoping there's enough time for me to train for thisone. Well, there's definitely enough TIME, but the question is whether or not I use the time for running.

If I can start running regularly again this month, I'll register for the marathon at the end of the month. The last time I ran this one, I barely trained -- no more of that for me!

One last thing -- there's a Disneyland Half Marathon on September 17th. A half marathon is at least four times as easy as a full one, so I'm already signed up for that one.

Wil - I just thanked you on my blog for thanking me :D
And I made a post directing people to your ROCK AND ROLL RUN DONATION PAGE!

LET'S GET GOING PEOPLE AND DONATE!!!

OH and SEP 17th is MY BIRTHDAY .. thanks for letting me know about that BJ.

Way to go Will. I am sure all the cancer patients thank you. My boss and I help them too.

Oops... I don't check this place for a while, and I miss a fundraising opportunity. Oops (already said that). :-(

On a completely unrelated note, yet something I think you'll appreciate: http://gprime.net/video.php/nintendothemesacappella

I too have made a post in my blog with a link to the donation page.
