too much is never enough
You know you're playing too much Guitar Hero when you see the Arena Rock Essentials at the iTunes Music Store and think, "Dude, I totally need to buy that."
Afterthought: If you could pick three songs for Guitar Hero II, what would they be?
I'd pick:
- Money by Pink Floyd
- Miserlou by Dick Dale
- One by Metallica
Ryan would pick:
- Rude Mood by Stevie Ray Vaughn
- Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin
- Hot for Teacher by Van Halen
Nolan would pick:
- I Need to do My Homework, So Don't Bother Me by I Am Nolan's Responsibility
Anne would pick:
- How about you play less Guitar Hero? by Guitar Hero Widows, Inc.

You know you're playing too much Guitar Hero when:
You listen to a song that's *not* in the game, and start thinking "green green green-yellow long-red.... BLUE BLUE BLUE!!!"
You being checking ticketmonster for when the Toxic Summer Fest is coming around.
You watch a video with a long solo, and mumble, "yeah, but he'd no Johnny Napalm...."
You're on a roll, typing a long report into your notebook, and suddenly feel the need to pick it up, shake it sideways, and yell "Star Power!!!"
Any more out there? ;)

The same is true for TV... or movies... or video games.
In fact, any media will give you the need and want for new media, which in turn...
...damn vicious circle!!!

Dude, looks like you got pwn3d by Anne there.

Oh nos! Anne FTW!

I'd add:
"Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix
"Arco Arena" by Cake
"Crazy Train" by Ozzy
I played this game for the first time on Saturday. Now I may wait for GH2 to actually pick it up.

Good call on "Crazy Train", a must have.
If I remember right, you're going to be able to have two guitars on the next version? Or was it just other instruments?
Anyway, the two guitar attack requires:
In order to re-live my air guitar days circa 1984, I'll need:
Oooh, the last comment about Cake reminds me that we need:
I'm sure I've left out a few other good guitar wank songs. And a disclaimer that I can't recall what actually *is* included with Guitar Hero.
I'd vote for at least one Rage Against the Machine or Audioslave song: "Killing in the Name Of" or "Out of Exile".

"Stairway to Heaven" by Zeppelin (of course)
"Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N Roses
"No Rain" by Blind Melon
Posted by: Morgan | May 17, 2006 04:08 PM
"Sex Type Thing" by Stone Temple Pilots
"Nightrain" by Guns 'n Roses
"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor
It doesn't help that I don't even have PS2 and therefore do not have Guitar Hero. The more you talk about it here the more I want to buy a PS2 just so I can play it.

My apologies for the double reply. It clearly lied when it said page error.

I give myself permission to add a few more:
* Dig for Fire by The Pixies
* Would? By Alice in Chains
* Stone in Love by Journey
* Highway Patrol by Junior Brown

You guys are all so cute!! :)
I love my gamer boys :P
Especially when you let me play with you!! :O
That sounded way too kinky...
Seriously tho, I wish I knew someone that has a PS2 (I do) and is old enough to want Guitar Hero (silly 8 year olds... and their moms!!!)
I also wish I were much better at the guitar. "Horse with no Name" doesn't really count.
MUST
STEAL

haha... footnote:
was watching an old episode of CSI and there's Wil, in his blue sweater glorious interpretation of Walter the bum.

* Eruption by Van Halen
* Soulforged by Blind Guardian (never gonna happen, but hey, long live Djörk Rock!)

If I could pick anything I want for GH2 it'd be these 3;
-AFI "Days of the Phoenix"
-Slayer "Raining Blood"
-David Bowie "Rebel Rebel"

Oh, my wife and I have totally had this conversation.
I'll agree with Wil's 'Money,', then add 'Money for Nothing,' by Dire Straits, and maybe something grungy from the late 80's/early 90's: Soundgarden, Nirvana, original Green Day perhaps. Especially knowing GH2 will let you play the other parts, there's a whole world of tunes to work from....

Yes to Van Halen
Yes to Dick Dale
Yes to Metallica
Yes to SRV
Implied no to the rest ;)

"Lose Control" by Ash
Not quite Bark at the Moon insane, but definitely at least No One Knows or Ace of Spades levels of difficulty.
"Let's Go Crazy" by Prince
Not too hard until you get to the solo, and that crazy-ass stuff at the end.
"Turning Japanese" by The Vapours
...just fun.

"Raise Your Hands"
"Dead or Alive"
"Blaze of Glory" by Bon Jovi

How about ...
"I've Got No Strings" by Pinochio

Prediction:
A version of Guitar Hero will be released for the Wii where you put the motion sensitive controller into the guitar and have to do tricks flourishes with the guitar (like spinning it around ala ZZ Top or faux smashing it into the speakers ala every heavy metal big hair band) as you are playing to win the audiences approval.

Some cool suggestions. Mine would include:
I'd also love to have "Rebellion in Dreamland" by Gamma Ray, if Chris Hanel's desire for Djörk Rock were granted.

I wish I could think of a few good progressive rock songs to add to the list, but, in those songs, the guitar tends to be on a fairly even footing with the other instruments, so it's only the solos that would really rock. A good example would be the guitar solo from Genesis' "Firth of Fifth," as played by Daryl Stuermer in the middle of the "Old Medley" track on The Way We Walk, Vol. 2. (His version of the part was flashier than the Steve Hackett original.) Perhaps King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man" would work, or maybe "Hooks In You" off Marillion's Seasons End album. (I love the guitar solo from "Easter," on that same album, but it's too slow and atmospheric to really be suitable for Guitar Hero.) Perhaps I should be thinking in terms of the so-called "progressive metal" bands, Dream Theater or some such.
On the other hand...nobody seems to have suggested any Def Leppard, either. "Photograph," "Rock of Ages," or "Pour Some Sugar On Me" would probably work well.
(Ah well...it's not as if I'd give money to t3h 3v1l Sony to buy a PS[23] for this game anyhow...)

Ann and my wife have a lot in common. Although it's blogging moreso than Guitar Hero for me.

While "One" is definitely a kick-ass Metallica track, I would think that "Enter Sandman" is more along the lines of GH.
I would also recommend either "Number of the Beast" or "Wasted Years" by Iron Maiden.
I second the opinion of the person who recommended "Photograph." Better still would be "Pour Some Sugar On Me." Cheesy? You bet... but it's hard not to rock out to that song 20 years after it came out.
Then, so long as you've already got Stevie Ray in there, you've GOT to include "La Grange" by ZZ Top.
Though it's not quite a "guitar hero" song, I like "Everlong" by Foo Fighters, too.

I'm holding out for Metallica's "(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth" being placed into Bass Guitar Hero.

Baba O'Reilly by The Who
Noise Noise Noise by The Damned
and
I Will Follow by U2
Then again, I'd never be able to make it through Louie Louie. I couldn't get past Cheap Cheap Cooking Chicken in Parappa :(

I just got GH recently, and it is a BLAST! Highly recommended!
As far as bands/songs I would like to see included in future installments...
AC/DC - Back in Black
Aerosmith - Walk This Way
Led Zepplin - Rock And Roll (Trampled Under Foot would be good too, but R&R is more well-known)
Kiss - Detroit Rock City
Mountain - Mississippi Queen
Joe Satriani - Summer Song
Those are just a few that come to mind. Coming up with good songs for this is more difficult than I would have thought. Many songs open with a great hook, but once the vocals start, it drops into a rhythm mode that would be boring in the context of the game. It's tough to find songs that have interesting guitar work all the way through. I must say that Money is an absolutely inspired choice!
I would really like to see that one included in a future expansion! Great call, Wil!

One? You sadistic bastard. :)
Were the solos on Cowboys From Hell/Bark at the Moon too easy for you? :>

Europe Rocks!
The Eurovision Song Contest is not known for it's Hard Rock credentials... until now!
The Finnish entry this year "Hard Rock Hallelujah" was sung in full-on monster outfits and won by the biggest margin ever.
Props to the English judge who gave the goat as she awarded them top marks.
Search YouTube for "hard rock finland" to see the fireworks!
