« Wil and FARK, sitting in a tree... | Main | Hazy shade of Winter » January 27, 2002Blowing the lead, 101What the hell happened with the Lakers today? Spudnuts? Comments
Lakers are generous. They're givers. That's what they do. Give. It's a lesson for us all really. Posted by: Spudnuts at January 27, 2002 11:42 AMLakers? Who cares about the Lakers? I mean, maybe if they can get a dynasty going, then we can all piss and moan about them.... But otherwise.... JSc Posted by: JSc at January 27, 2002 11:43 AMThey give. Fresh milk and piping hot scones to young kids. And they read them stories. Because it's about heart. And SUVs. And T-Mac can fly. With laser beams. And shit. Posted by: Spudnuts at January 27, 2002 11:47 AMNow don't diss the Lakers for being givers. There are some teas that need people to give. But if you're gonna give, don't play sports. :) JoshAct Posted by: JoshAct at January 27, 2002 11:51 AMwhoa, it's a bold world, today. (I have nothing to cotribute to a discussion about basketball, I just came by to see who was aggrieved by the irc logs ;-) Posted by: gigi at January 27, 2002 11:52 AM63 days until baseball. Wake me then. Lakers????? HOW ABOUT THOSE ROCKETS! wait... does Houston even have a team anymore. I hate my hometowns sports teams. cept the comets..cuz they actually win. Posted by: JenniferInLubbock at January 27, 2002 12:11 PMand how come on top of this here comments page, it says ...Comment on Blowing the lead, 101... is that html supposed to show up? Posted by: JenniferInLubbock at January 27, 2002 12:12 PMLakers: "Just do me." Posted by: Spudnuts at January 27, 2002 12:14 PMWell at least you guys have the Lakers. I got really pissed off that Columbus' NHL team wasn't called the Mad Cows.
Mmmhh...yeah...blowing a lead, Lakers aren't the only ones who can do it. Take the Patriots for example, they blew an 18 point lead, and now are ahead by six, and might not even win cause they have the nincompoop Bledsoe in there. God help the Pats. Posted by: Danie at January 27, 2002 12:59 PMEh. Sports shmorts. I haven't watched basketball since the year the Rockets won their second championship. And everything just seemed to fall apart after that. Besides, how can you watch sports when TNN is playing a ST:TNG marathon? Huh? Huh? Explain yerselves! No, don't. Really. Watch whatcha want. Who'm I to judge? :-) Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everyone! Posted by: Bronwyn at January 27, 2002 01:05 PMI used to watch sports. Then I moved to a small Missouri town that cares for nothing except high school football. They don't even carry decent games on TV. It's sad, really. Posted by: Jess Lat at January 27, 2002 01:28 PMSpudnuts is the beacon of...the beacon of...uhm. The beacon of. Something. Something always irreverent, annoying, thought-provoking... But always funny. Always. And he writes in this...certain way. Lakerboard, baby. Lakerboard. Posted by: wil at January 27, 2002 01:33 PMI think it's safe to say, from what I've read, that only Spudnuts can truly describe Spudnuts. Nothing else could do it justice. Well, this is all I could come up with. I'm just not a Laker fan. Anyone wanna talk hockey? Posted by: Jon at January 27, 2002 01:41 PMYeah, we're officially in Bizarro world. "HELLO I AM HAVE BASKETBALL FOR YOU MR. CLIPPERS MAN 'K THNX BYE." My brief impression of Shaq, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you, I'm here all week and I also do bar mitzvahs. Posted by: Beth B. at January 27, 2002 01:43 PMWhat about the Laker Girls? What happened to them? Doesn't ANYONE pay attention to these pillars of society? *Someone's* gotta shake the booty... Posted by: Courtney at January 27, 2002 01:47 PMI dont know much about Lakers, but Tony Hawk was here in south africa, and i saw him today. it was AWESOME. thanks to Wil for introducing him and letting me know abt him. Posted by: JediPrincess at January 27, 2002 01:55 PMSorry about the Lakers, I guess, but I'm just a hockey fan. Just got in from an afternoon game where the Montreal Canadiens beat San Jose, 3-1 and also scored their 10,000th goal on home ice. I'm still excited about it all. Posted by: Julie at January 27, 2002 01:59 PMApproximately 20 minutes since my post and two mentions of hockey! Woo hoo! Now we're getting somewhere! Posted by: Jon at January 27, 2002 02:03 PMYou can tell I have no clue about basketball when I post just to get the White Sox mentioned. Posted by: Don at January 27, 2002 02:05 PMI no absolutely nothing about sports - i dont even know that sport the lakers or white sox play. im clueless. But, you know what the Beach Boys say, "The East Coast girls are hip". Well, I guess I'm not really living up to that reputation, I mean I am in your posse, so how hip could I be. Len Posted by: Lenny at January 27, 2002 05:30 PMHey every1 Posted by: karen at January 27, 2002 05:40 PMLakers? What happened to the Lakers? Don't care. HUGE Sixers fan -AI is the man. And as far as the Super Bowl goes: Go Pats! (of course if the Eagles won I'd be singing a different tune). Hockey being my favorite sport, how could I not comment on that, since its been brought up. I could not be more happy the the Flyers & Detroit are #1 in their respective conferences. My two favorite teams. Wil theres something wrong w/ ur site. my comments r'ent showing up and the soapbox sayz i'm invalid. is there a way i can change my password in the soapbox? and if it duz show up i hav a stand by me site: http://hometown.aol.com/nyangel089/page3.html (it's not dun yet though). Well it's umm.. a thing where a b-ball team loses bad..for no apparent reason Posted by: Shaynie at January 27, 2002 05:53 PMWell it's umm.. a thing where a b-ball team loses bad..for no apparent reason Posted by: Shaynie at January 27, 2002 05:53 PMWait.....now the Soapbox is working for me. Ignore my first post. Sorry. You still having problems, Melanie? (ugh. computer problems + drinking = major headache) The Laker's were just helping the 76er's over the hill. Now they are a whole game over .500%. The Lakers weren't "helping" anybody. They didn't "give the game away". Two good teams played a basketball game. Both teams play hard. Some one had to win and surprise, it wasn't the Lakers. Why dump on the other team? The Sixers won b/c they played well, not b/c the Lakers let them. That's also disrespectful to the Lakers. They are competitors, they would never just let some one win. Maybe they didn't play as well as one thought they should have played. But saying they essentially rolled over diminishes both teams. Posted by: jl at January 27, 2002 06:34 PMThe Lakerboard gets everything... the good, the bad, the embarassing, the obscene, the superfluous. It's my dumping ground. They know me all too well over there, and no doubt most of them wish they knew me a whole lot less. WWDN just gets the A-grade product. Posted by: Spudnuts at January 27, 2002 06:50 PMLOL Spudnuts. True, very true :) Posted by: JoshAct at January 27, 2002 06:55 PMDittos, Don. NBA bores me, the Vikings sucked this year, the Twins are trying to appeal themselves out of baseball, and I'm still too bitter over the Northstars moving to Dallas (there is no Ice in Texas) to get excited about the Wild. I guess that leaves the WNBA, which gets no coverage hereabouts, or the MINNESOTA VIXEN WFL team. Which is way cool, but they play about a 2 1/2 game season and also get no coverage. Where's my library book? Posted by: Gette at January 27, 2002 07:22 PMyou deleted my post you jack off. that's the final straw ass bag. i'm going to start a massive boycott of your work, signed "edgar" or something Posted by: bobo at January 27, 2002 07:37 PMlast entry has to be a joke, who would go to the trouble of putting quotations aroudn wils name and then mis-spell star trek & weakest link and also say I saw "Your" instead of "you". At least they spelled Jack Off correctly Posted by: bluesman at January 27, 2002 07:40 PMyou stay out of this. Posted by: bobo at January 27, 2002 07:41 PMThat's sport, right? Posted by: pacman at January 27, 2002 08:04 PMI've come to realize that it is impossible to escape from basketball...good or bad. Of course, where I live, people are still upset about Bob Knight getting fired a YEAR AGO that the NBA is almost welcome entertainment. Posted by: kendoka at January 27, 2002 08:14 PMLast night or the night before Prince was at the Raptors game (here in TO) - i can't recall when i was talking to my aunt, but whatever. Anyway, because we are all so entralled with basketball, her one anecdote about the game (where she apparently had good seats - a couple of rows up from his Purpleness) was that he was "tiny, and ugly". and "wearing altogether too much makeup". giving the women of my family basketball tix is obviously pointless. Posted by: Gigi at January 27, 2002 08:37 PMThat may be true, Gigi, but you'll have to admit that she had a point. (I recently heard Kevin Smith go on for about 40 minutes about how weird Prince is...) Posted by: kendoka at January 27, 2002 08:52 PMYawn. What matters now is the Super Bowl. And St Louis is going to win!!! I'll bet you an autographed picture that they will win. If not I will send you an authentic autographed picture of me. And for a certificate of authenticity, I will also send you a picture of me signing it while sitting in the back bed of my 1995 Dodge Dakota pickup! I'd attach an eBay link too but they really have no sence of humor over there. Posted by: Keith in Montana at January 27, 2002 09:48 PMSelf destructed. Nuff said. The NBA regular season is one big Bore-O-Rama. Rams 56 Patriots 17. Posted by: Fred Fowler at January 27, 2002 10:12 PMokay. toiletduk? well, i've had the same problem. if, however, you're looking for the mario twins (they look so goddamn like the same person), you can find them here: it's actually a longer version than the one on toiletduk. extra toilet humour, plus a squid. shigetty shiggety shwa. Posted by: hot soup girl at January 27, 2002 10:31 PMHmm.. gonna mention hockey again I love the sport.. playing it.. I have trouble sitting still when I feel I should be knocking the funk out of someone on the ice. But gotta give my love to.. dodgeball. Spudnuts.. you rock. -K What's up with the Lakers? I dunno. What I want to know is, what's up with the Kings? Or rather, with the King fans? After seeing reports of Saturday's Avs vs. Kings matchup, I have to wonder. I mean, sure, the Kings got a couple of late penalties, including the one that let Milan Hejduk tap in the game-winner. OK, Murray got himself ejected for protesting the calls. But is that any excuse for throwing sh*t onto the ice? Whaddaya think this is, the Cleveland Browns? Maybe they're still mad that they gave us Blake and he went on to hoist the Cup... Well, they're due for a rematch tomorrow night, in OUR house...and I've never seen the Denver crowd tossing stuff on the ice. That's gonna be a game to watch. (Wish I could *be* there, but Avs tickets are tough to come by...a couple of years back, I got an awesome seat for a game against the Red Wings. Now *that's* hockey.) Eric Posted by: Erbo at January 28, 2002 01:01 AMi swear, they COULD have caught up in the last 4 minutes if iverson didn't friggin run into shaq on purpose to get that foul. that was like running head first into a wall, of course you're gonna get knocked down! Posted by: marc at January 28, 2002 01:02 AMI'd just like to repeat and emphasize a comment I read towards the top of the page... Wake me on Baseball's Opening Day! I'm a sucker for lost causes: World Peace, Nader for President, a Global Environmental Protection Act and the Cubs. Posted by: Olivia at January 28, 2002 03:07 AMOn the other hand, there's always golf. And, BTW, the guy who invented Civilization has just come out with SimGolf --> http://simgolf.ea.com/ Posted by: Don at January 28, 2002 04:42 AMYes now you too can simulate whacking a ball and hoping it rolls into a little hole. Hopefully its in real time and it makes you actually walk the course one step at a time, and look for your ball in the weeds. Or maybe that's only me. Posted by: Rob at January 28, 2002 07:26 AMAnd maybe if you hadn't voted for Nader we would actually have had a chance at some Environmental Protection. But that's neither here nor here. Posted by: Rob at January 28, 2002 07:28 AMLakers are now 3 games behind The Kings and going down even faster with their remaining road stint. The Lakers would kill for the chemistry, love, and firepower Sac has to offer. Sure, Kobe and Shaq are twin basketball gods, but their supporting cast sucks. Posted by: robert berry at January 28, 2002 09:00 AMI don't know much about the Lakers... I do know that I have to hide in shame whenever I talk about my hometown's Wizards. Any other team's fans can jump and cheer... I'd have to run and hide from the hecklers. Who knows what's next... Jordan remarries? So what if the Lakers are lost, at least they're escaping scandals and tabloid front pages... Posted by: Liz at January 28, 2002 09:16 AMIf they are such givers, why not give their fans their money back? Or better yet, give everyone that watched it the 2/3 hrs of time back, to go do something more useful. Or just give me $10 dollars. That works too. Posted by: Captain Whimsy at January 28, 2002 09:46 AMI don't like the lakers and I love the 76rs. So I'm a very happy person today. Posted by: Pat at January 28, 2002 10:05 AMHow come more people don't accept Ella as their Lord and personal savior? Posted by: Spudnuts at January 28, 2002 11:22 AMWhat other Ella is there? Posted by: Spudnuts at January 28, 2002 11:39 AMall im saying is thats Ella cool. Posted by: nina purpleton at January 28, 2002 01:13 PMI just realized I forgot to shave half my face. I will need to walk sideways the rest of the day. Posted by: JelloH8r at January 28, 2002 01:17 PMYou know what really seems popular these days? Espresso. They have these coffee shops all over. And the drinks are expensive! Kelly Tripucka. Echo bravo tango. Posted by: Spudnuts at January 28, 2002 01:27 PMFYI: Not joking about the Ella thing. Posted by: Spudnuts at January 28, 2002 01:33 PMI thought you meant the ELLA Lakers? Akeem Olijuwon did school young shaq when he was playing for that Florida team in the playoffs (against the Rockets) Also, he dominated David Robinson in the same series he had to sit and watch the Leage MVP trophy being handed to David right before the game. Shaq is a nice guy a good sportsman, but its hard to root for me to root for a guy that is that big and strong, wheres the competition? He reminds me of going up against the BORG. Posted by: bluesman at January 28, 2002 01:53 PMI always take everything you say with a grain of seriousness, spud Bah! I gave up on professional basketball when it turned into "The Michael Jordan Show". And it's gone downhill since then. They don't play for the love of the game anymore! They play to get higher paying contracts and Nike commercial spots. Give me NCAA basketball any day! March Madness in all it's glory with the Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and Final Four. And, when that's not going on, you have NIT pre and post-season tournaments! What could be better? Posted by: Kasia at January 28, 2002 02:08 PMListen. Yesterday evening I drove up Terwilliger in the hills above Portland and sat in my car reading this... "Hitler's Pope: The Secret History of Pius XII" Lights came on, cars sped by on I-5... the bridges. When 19, each pair of headlights represented fascinating conversation. Each houselight an outpost where dynamic conspirators hatched creative mayhem. But now I know those automobiles contain Imus Opie and Anthony squeeze Jersey faux-lez tits and NPR/Bob Edwards didgeridoo, sports bar/Mexican cantina who serves best cheese sticks Potter. And that each houselight is "Early Edition," "King of Queens," and motherfucking John Boy Walton on PAX. And I just, you know... WONDERED Why more people can't accept Ella as their Lord and personal savior. Posted by: Spudnuts at January 28, 2002 02:11 PMOr ODB. Posted by: Spudnuts at January 28, 2002 02:15 PMSeeing WATCH link, I tell you what really pissed me off recently. Twin Peaks was a cult TV series in my teenage years, but I never watched it then. So wanting finally to catch up, my husband and I just spent about $90 Canadian on the Twin Peaks DVD set and the PILOT is NOT included!!! How does that make any sense...? Has it been released on DVD yet? Does anyone have a clue...? Posted by: SpaceCadet at January 28, 2002 02:22 PMI really suck at sports. I'm sure there are many coonsidering the fact that this site is freaggin' hysterical and cool. Posted by: Natalia at January 28, 2002 03:23 PMYes, being a nerd myself, I admit to not knowing too terribly much at sports... Posted by: JoshAct at January 28, 2002 03:34 PMWhat about King Of the Hill, Thats a good show, it was the same guy that did the Bevis and Spudnuts. So Butthead, are you an Atheist? Posted by: bluesman at January 28, 2002 04:15 PM> YES!! Something to watch besides football!!! *ducks the flying rotten vegetables* Hockey, schmockey! Baseball?? nah... Basketball? forgeddaboudit! NOW, a sport that I can and WILL watch is NASCAR. *listens to the crickets as everyone in the room LOOKS at me* What? I'm serious! Nothing against other sports; I just don't watch 'em (unless I am at a URG basketball game... Go Redmen!). But I WILL watch 43 guys go around a track upteen times, and get damn excited while doing it. Shoulda seen me at the end of the Daytona 500 last year, last lap, before Earnhardt crashed. My driver, in the lead, he crosses the finish line, wins his first race. I was freakin' out. It was great... until we learned that Earnhardt died. Ok. Now I'm done boring you all with this story. Spudnuts, you are cooler than cool, dude. All you guys are fuckin' losers. Everyone who's everyone knows that only watchable sport is Cricket. C'mon, in which other sport do you need an advanced university degree to understand all the rules? Cricket forever! Posted by: Jun at January 28, 2002 04:38 PMThis is entirely off topic. Posted by: Spudnuts at January 28, 2002 04:44 PMThis has nothing to do with the Lakers ('cause I don't give a rat's ass, honestly), but did I miss Wil saying that he was going to be the special guest on Beat The Geeks? I just happened to walk by the tv just now, and there's our buddy, TV's Wil Wheaton, reading questions. Lookin' good, Wil...lookin' goood... Posted by: shanna/setf/y'know at January 28, 2002 04:53 PMHe mentioned something MONTHS ago that he was going to the set to help out with some questtions. I can only assume this is what he meant. That kicked ass. Posted by: Rob Matsushita at January 28, 2002 04:57 PMYeah, we just saw him, as the special guest questioner when the contestant took on the "Star Trek Geek." My wife and I recognized him immediately, and started cheering. He looked good, and read the questions with his usual wit. (Admittedly, reading two questions off index cards doesn't leave much room for improv, but he did it with style.) As for the "Star Trek Geek"...god, he was verbose. It made me want to do a WFS and yell "GET A LIFE!" And, hell, I could have answered those questions as well as he could :-). Bravo, Wil. Bravo.
