SUP FOOL I AM # 1- THX NELLY! WELL WIL U R AWESOME JUST WANTED TO BREAK THE ICE G2G LATER CUZ!

Posted by: Nick Burr at March 4, 2002 07:03 PM

I thought that you chose WWDN as your domain name because wilwheaton.com had a squatter on it. In the article, you said:

"I picked dot-net because in the original creation of the Internet, dot-com meant a commercial venture, and dot-net meant a network of people, or a personal thing or organization,"

Was I wrong?

I don't really do anything on WWDN but lurk. However, I had to emerge from my hermit cave to thank you, to -praise- you, for the reference to Gonads and Strife. *Happy sigh*

Weee!

Oh, and spiffy interview, too!

I can't remember what I was doing on the net the day I stumbled onto wilwheaton.net. I took a look around, thought is was pretty cool. But then came a heavy dose of political commentary that was 180 degrees from how I was raised in South Carolina (yes, that's right, I'm the one down here that knows how to read and write).

Anti-corporate sentiments make me wanna hurl - our country is great because of two things: our personal liberties and our unprecedented ability to create wealth on a national level. As corporations are the soul reason we're able to do that, I'm not anxious to see them abolished or hobbled in order to level the social playing field. Nader and Moore would almost certainly destroy them if given the chance. As America's corporations go, so does America.

But, I digress. Wil, you're one funny mofo, and that's why I keep coming back. Can't stand the politics, but your personal content and prose are most entertaining. Keep up the good work.

Posted by: Chris at March 4, 2002 07:11 PM

nice article! by the way, nice site and nice to "meet" you. i am one of the people attracted to blogging partly due to your site (mostly a friend's site, which links to your's). so anyway, i enjoy reading you.

incidentally: i've never understood why anyone would bear an actor ill will over the way their character was written. have you really been harrassed because of "wesley"?

Posted by: Greg at March 4, 2002 07:13 PM

Gosh, Nick, I had no idea it meant that much to you. (;

Posted by: JenniferInLubbock at March 4, 2002 07:35 PM

That was a cool article. I have to admit that the last part is true. I found this site because I was typing 'I Hate Wesley Crusher' in the little search box on google just for fun. I realized immediately how stupid this was. How could I possibly judge this kick-ass geek based on some stupid under developed character he had 15 years ago? If I knew Wil personally, more than likely he'd be in MY posse.

Posted by: Pmacca01 at March 4, 2002 07:41 PM

Way. Farking. Cool.

Oh, Canada... :)

Posted by: colin at March 4, 2002 07:43 PM

So cool...spreading the posse love far and wide...

Wil Wheaton, you rock.

Posted by: Interplanet Janet at March 4, 2002 07:46 PM

cool!

Posted by: Cherish at March 4, 2002 07:58 PM

I stumbled across this site somehow from imdb...and I've been hooked ever since. I think what clinched it was, upon reading some archives, I found a blog about your dad being sick and your grandpa dying and this and that. And coincidentally, my grandpa just died and you made my feelings valid!

Wow, never thought you'd have that much power, eh!

Thank you for a great site and for helping me in some weird, non-psychotic way deal with grief!

Posted by: Jana at March 4, 2002 07:58 PM

That first paragraph reminds me...

I saw Corey Feldman and his band just over a year ago. They played at a small club in Seattle. I went because I thought it might be interesting to see what he's up to, what kind of music it is, etc.

I left 4 songs into it, I saw much more than the people with whom I'd come. Most of the audience was making fun of him or laughing at him. I don't think he knew, I think he thought they were cheering for him. He was all rock -- or so he thought. The blonde, breast-implanted, tight-leather-wearing women at his side, barely whispering their harmonies. The rock star poses. The spectacle. It was hilarious. Unintentionally hilarious. I really felt bad for him because, I believe, he just was not aware of the mockery. Maybe he knew, I hope not.

Anyhoo...

Posted by: comitque at March 4, 2002 08:00 PM

Great article.

But what realy stood out was this ad on the same page for "How to build a web site in 3 easy steps." Ha. What was the subliminal message here?

Probably meant nothing but I just couldn't resist!

Posted by: Keith in Montana at March 4, 2002 08:02 PM

That really rocks Wil.

You know what I just realized, and I don't know why it never occured to me before, but for someone who gets a lot of "Where are they now" cracks directed at him, you sure get a lot of publicity over the internet.... Seems to me like your 15 minutes still hasn't ended.... and mine is still yet to begin... lucky ass... heh

Posted by: KarinAoi at March 4, 2002 08:07 PM

Loved the interview. I came here because I have always thought you were a great actor, and now I believe you are a great writer as well. Keep up the awsome work. Love this site!!

oh yeah.... and in respect to "weeeeeee", Wil.... you have the strangest sense of humor.... and I love it... heh

Posted by: KarinAoi at March 4, 2002 08:17 PM

Hi Wil,i am one of the (consider myself fortunate)readers of the article on you in the montreal Gazette and i was glad to hear you are doing well ,apart from your little lawn problem .,try geting a big dog then you will really get some experience.,.,LOL one trick rather than go nuts is to lay down some black earth and then seed it ,if you have a pet fence it off and watch it grow,,,it will....
One of the reasons i was so glad to hear you wee doing well is because i am a trekkie of sorts what with life and carreer it is not always easy ,,,(never been to one of those conventions myself).,.,always thought they would use your last story line for a comeback movie had it all worked out .Anyway .,nice to hear that you are happy and doing well .,.Regards Roy

Posted by: Roy at March 4, 2002 08:21 PM

Heh, sweet.

Funny about dot net versus dot com. Funny that a lot of people hadn't realized that dot com meant commercial.

I, too, have a dot net. But only a few people come and visit, so I dunno whether to call it a network or not.

Wil can legitimately use dot com now because he sells shwag. ;)

That's why I go with WooHoo!!! It makes a really nifty echo when you shout it from the mountains. (Yes, I'll admit to indulging in this cheap thrill of hearing myself calling "Woohoo!!" from all of the High Peaks up near Lake Placid...)

Posted by: kendoka at March 4, 2002 08:53 PM

"spacesuit community?"

Please tell me you're not pulling a Shatner in the "get a life" vein. Otherwise, great article.

Posted by: ummm at March 4, 2002 09:06 PM

That guy in the Bell ad looks like he's having a little bit too much fun, if you ask me.
I sent a letter to the editor asking him how come there was no mention of Spudnuts in the story.

Posted by: Fred Fowler at March 4, 2002 09:13 PM

Posted by: Courtney at March 4, 2002 09:24 PM

Will -

You da man! Nice going.
On a completely different note, I was just watching "Beat the Geeks" on Comedy Central, and you were the answer to a question. Weeeee!
(Okay, prolly not a big deal, but it's so cool to get to say "Hey, that's the guy who's website I go to every day!!!")

God, I am such a geek!
Anyway, nice interview. Leave it to those Canadians. Next time you should do the whole interview in French. Those Montrealians would love you more than Jerry Lewis!)

"And I thought you went Woohoo! because of Homer Simpson... ;)"

Nah, I've been saying "Woohoo!!" for as long as I can remember. (; My friend told me once that she wouldn't be surprised if they put that on my gravestone when I bite the big one. (Which, I'm hoping, is not any time soon, thankyouverymuch. I want to be one of those 100 year old grannies who are still doing crazy things like climbing mountains and such!)

An outstanding interview. The Montreal Gazette is most fortunate to receive an interview from such an insanely cool member of the human race (there seem 2 b so few). You should do more interviews... you're just as crunk as Keanu and Brad and Toby.

Random info:

One of the girls who works in the school club I hang out in has a new fish.

She was asking people for name suggestions.

My #1 suggestion?

Wesley Crusher: Borg Queen.

In other news, go Canada and crazy Canadian journalists.

Posted by: KJB at March 4, 2002 10:15 PM

I could have told you that posting the Canadian flag (not to mention the bilingual version of the anthem) would instantly garner you approx. 15 million new fans.

I'd personally like to applaud your attitude, between simply putting the site up, the encouragement you provide for political action, and even struggling to put in your own lawn; it's obvious that you're not the kind of person who ever says "don't bother, it won't make a difference."

And that is something all too rare today.

I loved that article! I'm kinda a newbie around here. I found you through whowouldbuythat.com when you bought that guy's autograph. Woah! Mad props for the link to thebrain! I'd totally forgotten about it. There's a girl in my house at school who is a muppet, and she can emulate that song so well it's eerie.

And here're 7, since it's so easy to think of 7 things that I'm tankful for right now, thanks to Wil.
1. Gonads and Strife
2. WWDN
3. Canadians
4. That sanity test posted above
5. my radio show (lyrical phrases and ominous warnings)
6. the new Joey Ramone album
7. Buster Keaton

Re: the Hits/Visitors thing.

That was a quote in the paper, and non-tech journalists (like the one doing Wil's piece) often don't quite catch the hits/visitors issue. 880,000's a pretty respectable number, though, whatever scale it happens to be on.

Alright, now that you're famous in Montreal, I got to invite you over. You have no idea how frustrating it is to us non-californians when you talk about one of your comedy shows and we can't see it!
Here's my idea: We have this great party here every summer in Montreal. It's called the Just for laughs Festival. It's 2 weeks of comedy shows from around the world, all out in the streets. So what about you come over here to present your show? Alright, I admit it's a bit farfetched, but you can't blame me for hoping right?
Check it out:

Hey Wil,

Great Article, and Awsome Website!!!
I stumbled across your site through the lockergnome. I was and still am a fan of star trek. All of them. Sometimes I wonder what the show would have been like if you stayed on. No matter where you go there is always going to be some sort of politics.

I read a while back that you are thinking of getting a new computer because your other one is going bad. I could build you one better than you can buy at a store, I have built 3 computers so far and they are going on strong. My main computer is has a AMD 800mhz processor, the motherboard can handle up to a 1.4ghz which i'm getting next month. it has dual 20 gig hard drives, one for storage and one for programs, 768mb of sdram. 56x cdrom and a 16x10x40 burner. Excellent system. I'm running xp professional on it. Got rid of that crappy ME. Ofcourse, the only problem I had with ME was the defrag. I'm a total geek as well. Let me know what you think. Money is tight for everybody. I can "assimilate" stuff from your old computer into the new one, or you could build the new one for yourself and then Let the boys use the old one.

Good luck on your home improvement. I'm looking forward to buying a house in the near future also. I used to goto home depot alot and all the ideas that would go through my head of designing the interior of the house. Can't forget all the Nifty toys in there either. The "A-Team" heaven.

Good to see your married. Now if I could find a woman who would love me as much as your wife loves you. I'm divorced but have a beautiful 4 year old daugher.

After the Next Generation, I always wondered what happened to you. We all sort of know what happened to the rest of the crew. From the very first Next Gen movie, do you or did you regret not staying on and getting into the Movies as well?

Stay strong and keep blogging away.

I agree with MrSpock. Wil & Company should
consider Just For Laughs or just about anything
that gets TV exposure. That way everyone will
know how funny he is and not just the people
that come to WWDN. That is my humble opinion
anyway :)

111,000 of those visits was Roughy reloading the page to see if any cheese would appear.

Nice website, "noworriesmon", welcome online.

And if one more person wets their pants, I suspect Wil will have to add Depends to the store, imprinted with "Wil Wheaton has a pissy posse, and you're it!"

Tee Hee...that song ranks right up there with "Detachable Penis" and "Stuart"...

oh, and the article was good too! :)

Posted by: The BostonDyke at March 5, 2002 10:31 AM

wow.

at one point i thought the world was divided up into those online and those offline.

then i thought it was those who liked "I like monkeys" (fine a copy at: http://www.monkeypoem.com/ ) and those who didn't. that universe coud be further subdivided by those who found the analysis (http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/users/00/ceg/monkeys.html ) funny and those who didn't.

that was replaced by the twisted humour of the squirrel.

but today i clearly see that it all boils down to those of us who first saw the squirrel at stileproject.com (complete with pr0n ads http://stileproject.com/weeee.html for an environment) and those of you who found it at thebrain.com.

As a local montrealer and reader of the site and the Gazette, it was like worlds colliding.

OK Wil..lets not get testy..some of us just have
that "obsessive compulsive attention to detail"
gene...lol

p.s. I would like to agree with the people who say come to Just for Laughs. At least I could get to that show.

Posted by: Gaea at March 5, 2002 12:58 PM

Hi Wil, I found your site yesterday and added it straight to my favourites....the article was great unfortunately we don't get much of you here if any.......PLEASE COME TO THE UK!!!!!!!
We love you!!! really we do!!

I hope you got my e-mail, you probably think i'm mad and i probably am in a good way.
Just know that you ROCK!
And as i said Critics are only critics cause they have no real talent so F**K the lot of 'em!

LOL BYEEEEEE

God, so many people's opinions to scroll down past before I get to post mine. But that is one of the greatest reasons to visit this site. All the cool people who post their opinions so I can read them all and crack up. I pretty much read everything, even the stuff I don't agree with, just to get another point of view. I am a trekkie. Was raised on repeats of the original show (so I never really stood a chance!), then graduated onto the spin-offs. Still watch them all now. It's my one true vice.

Apart from chocolate ;D

Have a good week all, and Wil...YOU ROCK!!

What a great article! Congratulation, Wil, you deserve it! I have visited your site since you started it and I think it's great. What other actors/actresses do you know who would do this for their fans?!? I have always thought that you are a great actor, but from reading your website, you also come across as a really nice, intelligent person. Keep up the good work!

Love from Anne, Liverpool, U.K.

I love it when trolls sign their posts "wil" but then are dumb enough to use their own email address.

Sorry that didn't work in Netscape.

Wil, since you are so kewl, look at this picture
and tell me what is wrong with it!!!

Cool, Wil - the Gazette is a respected paper.

"The term "television" was first coined in the year 1900 by the Russian physicist Constantin Perskyi who was delivering a speech about cockfighting and accidentally slurred his words together to form this new, exciting, proactive word. His noble and ingenious speech caused various other scientists to start looking at potassium cells (which are now found in Flintstones vitamins) and triodes (the things that the cast of "Star Trek" used to shoot at space nerd Wil Wheaton and then claim that there was an enemy Chewbacca behind him which they said vanished after he turned around and didn't see anything)."

Gotta love Lowtax. ;)

That's a great article, Wil. I admit, I am one of those people who came to your site to giggle at you. But you're so darn funny and so much fun that now I read your blog every day. I also have you linked from my site. Congrats!

Actually .net was originally intended to be for network services, like backbone providers.

Posted by: Richard at March 5, 2002 06:41 PM

Actually, when I found WWDN it was because I was looking for info on Wesley, not Wil. I missed his final episode on TNG 'cause I had way too much homework that year. Now, when I missed an episode of Roswell, I was able to go online within the week and find a page where the whole thing had been typed out word for word. But years after this episode aired I can not find a similar page devoted to ST. Where is James Blish when you need him? I'm not too disappointed, 'cause I did find this really awesome site. But I still don't know exactly what happened to Wesley.

Posted by: T'Sai Amanda at March 5, 2002 07:39 PM

Coolio article Wil. The Gazette is an awesome paper.

Too bad the Winnipeg Free Press couldn't get a hold of you. Lol, lol.

OHMYGODILOVEDTHEARTICLEANDIWASLIKEWHEEEEEEEEEEEEE

*LOL* I can't get enough of the dancing squirrel. As always, I am glad I stopped by the site because it never ceases to amaze me. Keep up the great work, Mr. Wheaton!!

Posted by: Dimplebrownlock at March 5, 2002 08:53 PM

Wil,

Congrats on the article. And I really am glad you were able to bounce back from trekkie hell, and that you set up this awesome site. Good luck in the future, and I look forward to your triumphant return to trekkie land in ST:X

And good luck on all those repairs to the house as well. My parents are doing the same thing to our house, except Im not there, so whenever I go back its like I am in a new house...kinda freaks me out in a way. Oh well...such is the life of a college student.

Dude that SOOOOO rocks!
Its nice to see you get the tons o' credit you deserve. Working the 'weeeeeeeeeee!' site in was a very nice touch too. But then you rock like that and do that on a constant basis. Hence why i read ya so often. That and I had a crush on you waaaaaaaay back in the day, and ya share my bday... k, getting dorky here...
So, um, keep up the good work! Not like you need the encouragement, you just.. do! {Why can I sense a strange Nike commercial coming from this?}

Yes, that's right.

Swooned.

Ok, 265,636 sounds more realistic than 800,000. Still a lot more than I would have imagined. Congratulations. Still don't understand that high bandwidth, but I haven't looked at your photo gallery--I guess that's where it is coming from.

How did you come upon the threebrain site and the WEEEEEEE phemomenon??? One other thing...are you a Farscape fan?

HEY! In reading that article I realize that we, the loyal viewing public, have been robbed!! We got our "Child Star" phase. We got our "Former Child Star Struggling to Find Work" phase and we got our "Finally Well-Adjusted Adult" phase.

Where was the "Substance Abusing, Car Crashing, and Video Store Robbing phase, sir? We have been cheated and bamboozled I tell you and I for one will not stand for it!

From one geek to another:

According to RFC 1591 http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/cgi-bin/rfc/rfc1591.html

The domain .NET "is intended to hold only the computers of network providers, that is the NIC and NOC computers, the administrative computers, and the network node computers." That is, it is for Internet Service Providers and the like.

So it's not for communities like you were quoted as saying in the article. Sorry.

"Cool, Wil - the Gazette is a respected paper."

Hahahahahahahahaha. I teach journalism at Concordia U. here in Montreal and you can't find more than three pages of decent original reporting in the Gazette on any given weekday. Well, maybe if you include sports....
