CowboyNeal

Hey! It's Friday, and that means we're all struggling to figure out what to do with our weekends...

Of course, if you live in or around Los Angeles, you can hop on some of our clean, safe, effecient and reliable public transportation, and come over to the ACME Comedy Theatre tonight, and catch me doing The J. Keith vanStraaten Show. Our lead guest tonight is David Carradine, who played Cain on Kung Fu!

Farkers know that this weekend is Fark Fest LA, and there are hellacrazy Fark opportunities. Should be Super-sized fun.

Now, seeing as how my wife and kids are out of town, you'd think that I'd be out this weekend drinking and enjoying some fine entertainment...but you'd be wrong. I'll be writing all weekend, and playing GTA 3, because I am that lame.

G4 made an announcement yesterday about our programming lineup. I'm still not allowed to say too much about my show, butI think I can safely say that we filmed two episodes yesterday, and I'm really, really happy with how they turned out. I'm really proud to be part of this show.

There is a message board that G4 has set up for all the shows (this link goes straight to Arena), and you can login and talk about my show with me and some of the people behind it...now, I heard from this magic talking donkey that the folks at my network are watching the traffic on the board to guage interest in the new shows. So if you're interested in Arena, and you want G4 to know, log in and tell them!

Finally, I found out something pretty cool yesterday: WWDN is ranked number 20 on the all-time top ten list* at Blogdex. I just thought that was really cool. This website has really grown over the past few months, and I love it that so many people are reading it. :-)

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thought for today:

"The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge."

-Albert Einstein

*I realize that you can't be number 20 on a top-ten list. Sure, I could change it, but it just illustrates my lameness in a beautiful way. :)

Dude, you're gonna write all weekend, too? You're my hero!

Posted by: Channe at April 12, 2002 03:08 PM

Good call on the GTA3. I know a 50+ year old dad who can't stop playing that and Grand Turismo.

It's almost sick, were it not so incredibly funny.

Posted by: KJB at April 12, 2002 03:10 PM

Ghost World rocks.

Posted by: replicant at April 12, 2002 03:10 PM

What does this have to do with CowboyNeal? Slashdot isn't mentioned at all. Please let me know so I don't feel stupid. ;)

Posted by: Troy at April 12, 2002 03:13 PM

Glad to see the comments section back up! I was getting a bit confused in the box trying to respond to the blog because some of the days were repeated.

Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy your weekend. I'm spending mine doing a combination of art homework, housework and yardwork- we never raked our lawn last fall and now we're paying for it! Yargh! I guess I should just be happy that I *have* a yard....

Hope your brother is feeling better, Wil.

Posted by: Toonces at April 12, 2002 03:13 PM

Was my post removed? How rude... Anyways.. Good luck Wil, and have fun. Do something while the family is away...you can play vid games when they get home..

Posted by: David at April 12, 2002 03:13 PM

Lovely thought for the day, Wil. Hope the show goes well tonite, and you might wanna check the spelling on "gauge". I always type "becuase" (because!) wrongly, myself, unless I catch it first.

Posted by: kazfeist at April 12, 2002 03:14 PM

Having fun this weekend! HA! I just got back to work. ANother 14 days on my floating prison.

Anyway, congrats on all the good stuf going your way lately, even though you didn't get those parts.

Posted by: medic119 at April 12, 2002 03:15 PM

Hey, Wil - a suggestion for your bosses at arena;

Don't make me log in. If I have to log in, I won't post. Period. And I as I belong to that rare species known as the female gamer they don't want me to say "stupid login. I'm gonna go read underacheivers." They want me to stay, and post, and lure boys there too.

I'm trusting you to make a good show about gaming, not like every other show, which has been so stupid it makes me embarrassed to be part of the industry. How do I find out how to watch this magic thing?

I like the killfrenzies. They are good and hard.

Posted by: harley at April 12, 2002 03:16 PM

Wil, just found this out. Tomorrow, on campus, they're doing a showing of Tron on the big screen with a trance DJ to replace the crap sound effects. Thought you might find that cool. Maybe my school doesn't suck as bad as I figured it did. Oh well, I have to work. Crap.

Good luck with the show. I'm glad things are turning out well for you. YAY!

"WWDN is ranked number 20 on the all-time top ten list at Blogdex."

Is it just me that finds the maths involved here a little confusing?

Posted by: Mark at April 12, 2002 03:36 PM

No partying? I see. You have a good weekend too.
Same to you Ness, and everyone else.

Posted by: angry penguin at April 12, 2002 03:45 PM

"WWDN is ranked number 20 on the all-time top ten list at Blogdex."

It's the New Math.

oops. :)

Posted by: wil at April 12, 2002 03:46 PM

I can't join the G4 message boards.

Posted by: angry penguin at April 12, 2002 03:55 PM

Buddha's bouncing biscuits, has G4 totally ignored all Web usability in order to make its designers happy? Does the site open enough damn browser windows, or what? Sheesh, I thought these guys were supposed to know us gamers. I know it's in a "getting started" phase, hopefully these bugs will be worked out of the system. I'd like to come back a lot, but only when =I'm= in control of my desktop.

Words to live by.

Not sleeping on the bed tonight...at least until I'm asleep...

My big plan for this weekend is to turn 23. I wish I could celebrate by going to the show you're in, wil, but unfortunately I won't be in L.A. for another two months. Definitely then!

p.s. My dogs Gooky and Katie say hi to Ferris and that gE3k's dog Copper.

Dammit, just when FarkFest LA and and an ACME show are head to head, it HAS to be the WEEK BEFORE I'm moving back to CA. Dammit all to hades.

AND, the G4 website doesn't work for Mac users on IE. Shame, shame. And they dare call their network the same name as a Macintosh. >.

I believe, if I'm not mistaken, that the reference to CowboyNeal alludes to the fact that WWDN is ranked 20th on Blogdex and and slashdot.org is tied for 18th (one above WWDN). If I'm right do I win a prize?

Egad... my apology in advance for being a total nitpicker spud, but Carradine's character in "Kung Fu" is spelled "Caine" and not "Kane."

I mention this mostly because "KF" is one of my favorite all-time shows, so I have this obessive-compulsive desire to make corrections if people get things related to it wrong.

Sorry for being so anal.

Posted by: perpugilliam at April 12, 2002 06:25 PM

kane sounds cooler.. dont dis on the boss buddy
>:-|

Posted by: hops at April 12, 2002 06:28 PM

Oops.

Well, I'll change Kane to Caine, if we can all agree to use the word "You" in place of "u" and the word "to" (or one of it's hominyms) in place of the number "2."

Oh, and I hear that Kung Fu is number 35, on the top ten best television shows EVER!

Posted by: wil at April 12, 2002 07:15 PM

and the educator in me queries if can we spell it 'homonyms' in place of 'hominyms' ?

Posted by: pavegirl at April 12, 2002 07:23 PM

god DAMMIT!

I KNEW I was spelling that wrong.

See, I went to pulic school...and uh.

Yeah.

Homonyms.

Posted by: wil at April 12, 2002 07:25 PM

That's really cool Wil. Good luck on your show. Or rather break a leg.

Posted by: sifichick at April 12, 2002 07:28 PM

Well good luck on your show man. I wish I could be there but I don't live in LA. I'm gonna go kill more pedestrianse in GTA3 now.

Break a Leg at the show tonight, Unka Willie.

My weekend plans aren't quite as fun... I'm missing a killer LAN party because Sunday is the one day out of the week when I get paid to sing... gaming vs. work. I hate that.

And I'm prepping for an audition on Monday. Your recent audition woes sound achingly familiar. So much so that one of my most used comic monologues involves taking a cell-phone call in the middle of the audition... I think the subtle commentary is lost on most of the folks on the other side of the desk... but it has landed me a couple of gigs, so what do I know?

Good 4 u on deciding not 2 party and stay home to write and so forth. :) Bwaaahaaahaaa. OK, I'm a dork...possibly lamer than you....possibly.
Re: the hottest chicks are (of course) Jeri Ryan and Marina Sirtis...duh! What a ridiculous question.

Have a great weekend, Wil and the rest of the clan.

Posted by: thebrett at April 12, 2002 09:24 PM

Hmmmm, what will I be doing this weekend ... ah, yes: Playing phone tag with the goddam police because my so called "best friend/roommate" drained my bank account DRY, then got together with her boytoy and my ex-fiance's friend and stole ALL of my ex's CD's as well as a lot of MY stuff (INCLUDING MY PS2!!! GRRAAAARRRR!!!!), and then took off, LEAVING MY ONE-YEAR OLD SON UNATTENDED IN MY LOCKED APARTMENT WHILE I WAS OUT WITH MY EX (still friends) TO CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! (April 9, for anyone who cares)

So, I am begging each and every one of you to have a fantabulous weekend for me!

Okay, now that THAT is outta my system ... I really hope all goes well for you Wil, and everyone else for that matter. And they're right, ain't nuthin wrong with gaming all weekend ... except when your PS2 was stolen (bitter? who, ME?). ~sigh~ Maybe next week will be better ...

Wil,

Have fun with the show tonight (although by this writing, it's probably close to being done). That is so cool that you've got David Carradine. Kung Fu was such a great show. Also nice to see Carradine land a new gig in a Tarantino flick. It'd be great if you give us outside of LA types a little summary of how it went.

Oh and way up in the comments: Tammy/Nellswell-Happy Birthday!

Posted by: jon at April 12, 2002 11:25 PM

Hmm.

I'm in LA right now.

And I and my bro just spent the past three hours driving and walking around downtown drinking bo ba and eating altoids.

If I had known I could ACME this fine fucking evening, then by God...

I would have done that instead.

Ah well.

I got an internet warm fuzzy today as well... wait, that sounds bad. In any case, my website finally made it into Google. I'm the #1 site for a search of the terms Unisex Pocky.

Hey, Wil ! Cool, that the comments are open again; I really like your "thoughts for today"; where do you find all these things ? As a German I like todays thought especially... Einstein ruled, even though this quote is probably the only thing of all the things he said and did in his life that I completely understand. ;-)

I'm spending the weekend over at a friends house relaxing in front of the computer trying out a couple of programmes like Adobe Illustrator and GoLife or Dreamweaver (We are currently working on a couple of websites and want to find out whether to create them with dreamweaver or GoLife...)
So, have an nice weekend, Wil !

It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.

(you probably noticed the door opening 30 mins after the show already started.) anyway, jen says she will definitely try to check out your show if it happens to be on the next time she comes to LA. we love you!
