Bring on New Jersey!

112-106

(waves Lakers banners)

I managed to catch up with the closing minutes of overtime -- that was some cool game they had there.

It would have been interesting to see the Kings go into the finals against the Nets, two first-timers up against each other in goodness knows how long.

But what I saw of it was a good fight. A game worth watching. The finals should be really exciting!

Posted by: cindyg aka Starshadow Rivaulx at June 2, 2002 08:09 PM

The Kings definitly gave away that game. Hopefully New Jersey can make this a little more interesting. If Philly can't take out the Lakers, maybe our New Jersey neighbors can do so.

Posted by: JC at June 2, 2002 08:10 PM

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!

Posted by: RedRocker at June 2, 2002 08:10 PM

A how-many peat is this going to be now??? Can anyone stop Kobe and Shaq??? I think not...
Finals
Lakers in 5...

Posted by: Stuart at June 2, 2002 08:10 PM

d'oh! what if i've only lived in los angeles for a year and a half. does it exempt me from laker fandom? just for one more season?

Posted by: christy at June 2, 2002 08:11 PM

Life is now worth living.

I love this game, but I love the Lakers even more.

Thanks, guys.

Posted by: zootnarf at June 2, 2002 08:18 PM

That's funny. It looks more like 21-34 to me. No matter, NJ is far better in every way. Except per capita cancer occurrence.

Posted by: Internal Audience at June 2, 2002 08:20 PM

dude sacramento is my alumni.. gotta root for them.. the lakers should have wasted them before.. o well good game mr wheaton :P

Posted by: hops at June 2, 2002 08:21 PM

I hope Shaq trips over Kobe and breaks something.

Posted by: Jake Bubbles at June 2, 2002 08:25 PM

hurrah!

Posted by: sarah at June 2, 2002 08:25 PM

What an amazing series. If not for the complete choke job at the foul line, Sacramento wins for sure. I was rooting for L.A., though, mainly because I'm a fan of Phil Jackson.

BTW, Mike Bibby is freaking amazing. I knew he was a great player for Arizona, but I had no idea he had that kind of moxie in the pros. Fantastic player.

Posted by: TubaJon at June 2, 2002 08:32 PM

Make sure that when Shaq trips, he gets kobe with his plus size shoe in the knoggin'.

Posted by: madgoomba at June 2, 2002 08:35 PM

Go Lakers, go Lakers, it's your birthday, get busy, go Lakers!

Posted by: Killroy at June 2, 2002 08:35 PM

Um that picture is gay, man. Shaq's fat. And the Kings rule. If you were trying to say anything by that picture, it's that you're dumb for diggin the Lakers. Haha. Sorry. :)

Posted by: Chelsey at June 2, 2002 08:39 PM

Oh and this comment:

I hope Shaq trips over Kobe and breaks something.

Posted by Jake Bubbles at June 2, 2002 08:25 PM

Posted by: Chelsey at June 2, 2002 08:41 PM

Lakers suck...and nobody cares about Basketball.

Posted by: JB at June 2, 2002 08:46 PM

thats very negative jb..

Posted by: hops at June 2, 2002 08:49 PM

Gee, wil...you don't say one word about this series until the Lakers win it. It's cause you knew the Kings got jobbed out of it. Two of the Lakers wins should have been given back to Sacramento, Game 4 and Game 6, for the horribly slanted and imaginary officiating that was going on. Just take away Samaki's bullshit 3 pointer after the buzzer that they counted, and all those phantom fouls they called on Vlade and Pollard in Game 6, and you'd see who the real champs are. It's a shame Sacramento has to "pay dues" before they'll call the game straight against us.

Grrrrr! Fuck LA...

Posted by: Robert Berry at June 2, 2002 08:50 PM

Robert-

We all knew that my carreer was OVER if the Kings won.

Go Lakers.

Posted by: wil at June 2, 2002 09:09 PM

Screw Sacramento. I didn't get the job there!

Posted by: scottcomm at June 2, 2002 09:11 PM

So, when is kick off for the next match?

hehehehehehehehehehe

Posted by: Cherish at June 2, 2002 09:19 PM

I watched Wesley Crusher Day on TNN. It rocked...I especially liked all the old women who called in and called you "a nice piece of ass," claiming you were "the hottest teenager on the show." Sorry, not a big b-ball fan, but thought I would give you props for being immortalized for a day. See? It's been a good day all around!

Posted by: Phil at June 2, 2002 09:25 PM

lakers always win.. let another team win fairly for once.. first it was the bulls everyone let win.. now its the lakers.. damnit!

Posted by: hops at June 2, 2002 09:27 PM

Sacramento/NJ would have been one of the better finals in a while... As it is, my money is on four blowouts (you guess who wins.)

I'm with Cherish; how's Portugal doing?

Shaq couldn't do an interview after the game, he played so long. If you would like to bet on the Nets Lakers series, contact me at www.//take my cashplease.org. This line gotta be cruel.

Posted by: Dank at June 2, 2002 09:41 PM

That was a hell of a game.

I was born in Sac and reside in Monterey Bay, so I was behind the Kings. All I have to say is: Bibby. He was a bald-headed nightmare out there. His game in the 4th quarter and in OT made both Kobe and Shrek-quille both look like punk amateurs. Amazing.

I have to concur with what was said above; the Kings gave that game away on the free throw line. They finished at around 58%. Painful. Just a few more throws in and they would have had that game in the bag, since they had the Lakers matched game for game in every other category.

Good game. Wow. :)

Posted by: pavegirl at June 2, 2002 10:06 PM

The better team.. lost. Sorry, but the Lakers are two truly great players (Shaq and Kobe), two moderately good players (Horry and Fox), one mediocre player (Fisher), and a bunch of total scrubs. Kings have 3 great players (Webber, Bibby, and Peja when he's healthy), a bunch of solid players (Bobby J, Divac, Turgaloo, D. Christie), and better scrubs. No way that the Kings lose with a healthy Peja. Without all that rust, Peja would have hit the late 3 in the fourth and overtime would never have happened. I guess we'll have to wait until next year, maybe the wheels will finally come off creaky veterans Horry, Fox or Fisher. And if the Spurs come in #2 in the Midwest division? It'll be even tougher for the Lakeshow to have to face two teams that could beat them, Sacramento and Dallas. So revel in it now Laker fans, the rest of us will be waiting next year.

Okay Wil... You're out there in California, a Lakers fan. I am here in New Jersey, a Nets fan.

This would be interesting... But, of course, we all know the Nets will lose...

But we could MAKE it interesting... (Even though I will likely stand alone against everyone in the world, save for the 5,000 die-hard Nets fans... Of which I am not even one of...)

Let me know what you think. I am open to suggestions.

Posted by: Potch at June 2, 2002 10:38 PM

Just wait until the Bulls are back in it...oh, yes, we will be back!

That said, go Nets. They played a hell of a series.

Thanks for giving me the heads up on Wesley Crusher day, I would have missed it if I hadn't read about it here!

The Lakers won? :( Go Nets!
And since I am from Raleigh, I must add GO CANES!

Weren't we all watching the Wil Wheaton marathon on THE NEW TNN ("Robin" and "Wesley" locking lips at the end of "The Game"). Now if we can just get those people to get rid of that annoying TNN bottom line eating into the screen.

Posted by: David J at June 3, 2002 07:58 AM

Go Lakers!!!

Sacramento is a good team, and it was a great series. But, from a purely aesthetic point of view, they've got the UGLIEST players in the NBA.

Damn. Some of those guys look like mutant freaks.

And what's with the owners? They remind me of aliens from a Next Gen episode ... you know, the dumb ones that kidnapped Geordi so that he could make their ship go faster? "We look for things. Things that make us go."

Posted by: Noelle at June 3, 2002 08:21 AM

Yeah, because the Lakers owner doesn't look like the worst TOUPEE model EVER.

Lakers didn't deserve to win, on so many levels (anyone watch game 6, what b.s.), but I will admit Kobe is good, Shaq is just fat. I think 10% of Lakers fans are real fans and the rest just like to pretend to like the team that's won the series the past few years. Most people at their games don't even watch, they're too busy on their cell phones.

We all know who really won that series. Kings played like crap and still almost beat the Lakers, doesn't say much about Phil Jackson's (the man who has made an art out of riding ont he coattails of players) buttmonkeys.

Posted by: fluffypancakes at June 3, 2002 08:29 AM

Gee, how coincidental that NBC gets a bunch of 7 game series at the end?! How convenient.

Yeah, Webber, Bibby & Vlade are really that good (NOT). And talk about cow-classless. Constatly cheering their own offense, and complaining about negative calls.
For all the obvious cow-bias calls (throughout the series), the Lakers conducted themselves with dignity & decorum.

Newsflash people, the fix is in.
It started w/ Game 1 last year vs. Philly.
What a joke that all turned out to be.

Last years Coach of the Year, MVP, & All-Star MVP...sure proved true this season, huh.

The NBA hates sweeps. It deligitimizes their kooky expansion scheme(s), and tortures fans who buy season tickets for perpetually losing/choking teams. So instead we get outlandishly obvious officiating (bias).

Plus all the 'red states' love to hate L.A.

Regardless which team you love, all fans are disgusted with the dubious officiating.

Hmmm, what new rule will they come up with next year to stop Shaq?

Posted by: Nightfly at June 3, 2002 08:30 AM

And even when the refs give the cow-Kings all those 'Free' throws... the chokers still couldn't get it done. Good thing Superman knows how to make a foul shot.

Posted by: Nightfly at June 3, 2002 08:35 AM

The NBA Western Conference finals earned NBC a 13.5 overnight rating and 24 share, according to Nielsen Media Research, an 82 percent gain over the comparable game last year when Philadelphia played Milwaukee in the Eastern finals.

It was NBC's best postseason overnight rating, excluding the NBA Finals, since Game 7 of the 2000 Western Conference finals between the Lakers and Portland.

The Nets' 96-88 series-clinching (friday) victory in the East finals against the Boston Celtics drew an 8.7 rating and 16 share in the overnights.

Posted by: Gwalchmai at June 3, 2002 09:53 AM

How can guys who get paid a whole lot of money to play basketball for a living shoot so crappy from the free throw line. Its a FREE THROW for F&#k's sake! I'm from Sacramento, I'm a season ticketholder, and at least I have the comfort of knowing that the Lakers didn't win that series. The Kings lost it. And yes there is a big difference.

I do hope this is the start of a great rivalry!

Posted by: Ironwolf at June 3, 2002 09:55 AM

Fair & square? Officiated was biased against the Lakers? I'm confused. I either read those posts wrong or I must have been watching a different series. Me & hundreds, maybe thousands of other people. Sure, no team can blame a loss soley on officiating. But it does matter. The bias is on behalf of the Fakers. And not just in this series. The "It" team always gets calls on their behalf. Its sucks, but thats the way it is (remember all the travelling Jordan did w/ the Bulls?) Oh, and decorum? Not when a marquee player says stuff like the only way to beat the Lakers is to cheat! Its b/c of stuff like that that I can't stand the Lakers. I haven't always felt this way. I used to respect them tremedously b/c of their history. I remember just a few years ago (before Kobe) how they sucked. I hoped good things for them b/c I thought it was sad a team w/ such history had nothing going for them. And I also thought its better for the NBA & fans to not have teams that suck so much. So now I get the cliche "becareful what you wish for." I can deal w/ the officiating "helping" the Lakers in some ways since its the normal practice to "help" the "It" team. But not when certain high profile people involved w/ the organization have such horrible attitudes. I feel bad for the long time, true Lakers fans. You can't just turn off your enthusiasm for a team you've loved for a long time, even during the bad years. But to have to cheer for a bunch of guys who are so incredibly smug when they win & cry like little boys when they lose, well, there have been such people who've played for the teams I love. Despite how good they were, I couldn't wait for them to be traded. This years NBA finals, I don't know who to root for. I can't stand the current Lakers team. And I'm not sure I want to cheer for a guy who hit his wife. Yeah, he's "not the same guy anymore." And he & his wife have worked out things. I hope he has really turned his personal life around. Its possible & its a good thing. But b/c of things I've seen in my own life, I have a hard time dealing w/ some one who hits his or her spouse. I don't know. Thank goodness there is still hockey. Way more interesting than basketball anyway. I've alway respected Detroit & then on the other side there is Brind'Amour who've I've like for a long time. (And thank goodness there is the World Cup, too, go USA.)

Posted by: Scott at June 3, 2002 10:36 AM

Yeah, it sux that the lakers won, but come on.
Granted, Shaq is probably the worst basketball player in the NBA, and the only reason he succeeds is that he's like the 500-pound gorilla in a hotel, still, the lakers didn't cheat, they didn't steal, they just used their assets very well. And even a rabid laker-hater like me can't deny that Kobe Bryant has some fricking great basketball skills.

Hi, Bill!
So, do I think the US team has a chance to take the World Cup? Well, since we are talking men's soccer I have to say, no, not a chance. But I do expect them to improve. There are some great guys on the team like Mathis. American men's soccer has a long way to go to meet the success the women's team has found. But I'm fairly happy at the improvement I've seen in them. Not everyone can play at the level of the men from the South American nations. I don't think I'm coming from way out there when I say I think Brazil will win the World Cup.
Sorry to interupt the basketball stuff.

Posted by: Sunidesus at June 3, 2002 01:08 PM

I can't bring myself to like the lakers since shaq is such a massive dildo. I can respect kobe as a good player.... but shaq is just a gorrila in a basketball uniform that's been strategically shaved.

His whole game relies on the fact that the refs call fouls differently when it comes to him than anyone else in the league. He is free to push people untill he is directly under the basket, then someone just throws him the ball and he shoots.... if he doesn't make the shot the ref simply blows the whistle. I have never seen such horrible officiating in my life.

To help solidify my position, try catching one of ESPN's "classic" NBA playoff games sometime. I caught one from 1975 the other day... The refs call a foul and 90% of the time nobody argues. These days a player and coach argue every single call regardless of how blatantly obvious it is. It lends little to their credibility. Case it point... Kobe picked up his 5th foul late in the game on an obvious call where he practically ran over Bibby on the inbounds play. Immediately he lifts up his hands as if to say "What?! What did I do? I can't belive this!" I blame the NBA for hiring bad refs and for encouraging a play environment where their players are taught to argue any call even if it's the right one.

I gotta go.... gotta go get me a Shaq Pack and a Nestle Cruch bar.... maybe I'll pick up some Shaq endorsed Tampax tampons while I'm out.

Posted by: Shaq is a twat at June 3, 2002 01:18 PM

Hey they sell Shaq tampons?

Ultra long and absorbant for extra flow.

Posted by: hops at June 3, 2002 01:32 PM

Flopper never win.

Curious all these cow-Kings fans (a team competing for 'most white guys' status) call Superman a Gorilla. That couldn't possibly be some Freudian truth slipping out now could it. But, far be it from me to call a compassionate conservative a RACIST.

If you cow-fans, and Laker haters, (aka Bush Leaguers) wanna think of Shaq as monkey like, that's your righteous business - perhaps you should start calling him KONG! Muthafuckas!

Posted by: Nightfly at June 3, 2002 02:08 PM

Great Job Lakers, You really Shut em down on the Free throw line (& 3 pointers)

Not to mention the FACT that any team in the NBA that had Shaq would be favored to win it all.

I can see why someone who lives in LA is a Lakers fan (& Shaq seems like a very nice guy) but everybody else is about as pathetic as a Dallas Cowboy Fan.

To have to go to game 7 and overtime shows how great a coach and team the Lakers really have.

Posted by: bluesman at June 3, 2002 02:19 PM

Considering the Lakers face a 5-on-8 matchup every night, they've done outstanding (and have managed to stay healthy).

The biggest clue of the 'fix' is how apparently nobidy fouls Kobe, during all his drives to the rim?!
That's really amazingly clean play I guess (quite uncommonly so). Recently Shaq was only sent the line once -- yeah right, nobody fouled Shaq the whole game. I call the foul totals "evidence" of rigged whistles.

Why does the League hate Shaq? Cuz he strolls into town with his six guns (Kobe, Horry, Fisher, Fox, Shaw & MadDog), and wipes the floor with every weak-ass expansiony team. Superman leaves thousands of disheartened fans in market after market (uh hum, I mean city after city). Thus reducing the chances that little Johnny will want an $80 jersey of the hometown choker that just got slapped (like Chris Webber for example).

Perhaps the league will invoke the ol' Kareem "no dunk" rule to stop Shaq-Daddy!

Nuff said.

This is more heated than the "I hope those motherfuckers at Enron die" comments.

Hey Nightfly,

Get stuffed. I don't care if Shaq is black, white, yellow, red, or plaid. He's still a gorilla. As long as we are on the topic of racism though, I like your comment about the Kings being an all white team. I guess Chris Webber just has a really bitchin tan huh? And what about Bibby? Yup, you guessed it, he's black too. Not to mention the diverse variety of ethnic backgrounds the rest of the players on the team have. *cough* reverse racism *cough* . Maybe the NBA should impose a special rule to make you happy, the "too many light skinned guys on the court" foul. It's people like you that fuck up the world.

The point is I don't give a rats ass about a persons skin color, it doesn't mean a damn thing. It's what's upstairs that counts, a place where you (nightfly) are obviously lacking.

Flame off.

Posted by: shaq is a twat at June 3, 2002 06:50 PM

Yes I'm *clearly* lacking in intellect. Funny how you're the one calling a black [Muslim] a Gorilla, but of course, I'm the racist.

I guess there would be no logical motivation to get more whites & lights on the court. Nah, it's not like they're the ones with money to spend on overpriced tickets & merchandise. It's not like many white people can afford the super-expensive season tickets (much less the box suites). And I guess towns with very small Black populations like Sac wouldn't seek to more aptly serve their (regional) demographic.

But your the smart one Mr. Twat. Naturally I defer to your keen expertise.

Posted by: Nightfly at June 3, 2002 07:13 PM

Oh I forgot. There's also the fact that Blacks make up the majority of team ownership, as well ad buyers.

You're so right Mr.T. Surely I'm the fool to be pitied.

And of course, we all know the Lakers suck, A.I. is the best, and Duncan truly is the MVP of the (Black run) league!

You've convinced me :) Thnx

Posted by: Nightfly at June 3, 2002 07:17 PM

But, what would the all-knowing Tom Tolbert have to say?

Posted by: idiot boy at June 3, 2002 07:35 PM

the Lakers are going to CRUSH the Nets. Shaq is the MVP. A.I. is a punk.

Posted by: chocolate thunder at June 3, 2002 07:42 PM

What's a "reverse racist"? Is that like being a "reverse sexist"? Are those code words for actually being anti (historical policies & actions of the) White Man? Cuz then I guess I'm that.
I'm anti-Enron too. And anti-fraudulent vote purging too.

This is my first time here, I think this is really cool! Go Lakers!
~~~Yee-Haa!~~~
Posted by: wallyworldboy at June 3, 2002 08:07 PM
Nightfly,
You still insist that I'm a racist because I say Shaq is a gorilla? Would it help if I said Shawn Bradly is a clumsy honkey with a growth disorder?
I'm trying to say that my original comment had nothing to do with racism. It had everything to do with insulting the man known as Shaq. I'm sorry you took it wrong. No racial bias was intended. I have the same feelings for every human being on this planet regardless of race, color, or creed... (we all suck). As I have already stated my comment about Shaq being a gorilla was misinterpreted. I apologize to anyone I have offended. I couldn't care less that he is a "black [Muslim]." He could be a "white [Jehovah's Witness]" and I would still call him an unskilled gorilla. Quite frankly, we all resemble monkeys regardless of race or skin color. We fucking evolved from apes. Since when did gorilla become a non-P.C. word? Honestly, people shouldn't be so sensitive. Don't waste your time on me, go find an actual racist to bitch at.
SpikeFan5000,
A "reverse racist" is someone who complains constantly about racist injustices against their own race while commiting racist acts against another race. I guess what I really meant to say was "hypocrite". My bad.
Posted by: Shaq is a twat at June 3, 2002 08:15 PM
Since Shaq's {backboard breaking) arrival, we've seen:
The Jump Hook (left & right)
The Drop Step (left & right)
Running Fast Breaks (as Point Center)
Foul Shot improvement
Expert passing eye
league leading shot %
Blocking, Assists Leadership
Double Doubles every game.
I'm convinced Good Sir Twat. Shaquille is a talentless 'Gorilla' did you call him. Is 'clumsy honkey' also a sub-human reference (savage, animalistic, etc)??? I don't know.
Kind Master Twat, perchance you should stick to the World Cup & Hockey. Basketball might just to a little too 'real' for your (compassionate conservative) worldview.
Anyway, what else can I say but...GO LAKERS!!!
Posted by: Steve at June 3, 2002 10:30 PM
I'll get right to the heart of this thing. The Kings have now replaced the Jazz as my all time least favorite team. Even with home BARN advantage they can't come through in the clutch, which as you can tell by my name I obviously do. And will someone please tell Vlade, Hedo and Peja to close their mouths. If you look closely you can see a ring around their collars. You may think it is sweat but it is drool. My nephew Issac has the same problem but he is only 11 months old. Somebody get Vlade some unfiltered cigarettes and a neckerchief and get him the hell away from me. He's a piece of shit.
How did AI get involved in this? And why is he a punk? Sure, there are times when one might think he needs a bit more growing up. But he's not a punk. He likes to do things his way. He's determined,even stubborn. Still, AI is his own man, he doesn't give into to what the status quo or the establishment wants him to do. In some situations he should be more willing to compromise, but often the other side is just as unwilling to meet in the middle. Could he do things to be a better player, yes. Could he do things to be a better person, we all can. I hope, though, his spirit of never giving in never dies. So, how did he get involved in this and why is he a punk? Is it the corn rows? I know some (including a certain Philly radio personality) who call him a punk b/c "the damn corn rows and tattoos." And that is just ridiculous. You know who's a punk? That guy who said the only way to beat the Lakers is to cheat. Nice guys don't say things like that -even if in a fantasy land that were true, the nice guy would find a better way to say it/expose it. Too bad that person doesn't have as much character/class as he does ability to play ball. Then maybe there would be a lot less Laker-haters.
Posted by: Jay at June 4, 2002 07:12 PM
Posted by: Jay at June 4, 2002 07:16 PM
Hey Wil,
You're really attracting the brilliant thinkers 'round here lately. Such intellectual use of language.
I do believe I've spotted an emerging pattern among the anti-Laker crowd. Hmmmm, I wonder who can glean what afflicts them?
Posted by: Nightfly at June 4, 2002 07:34 PM
Is better to plainly suck, or elaborately suck? Since Malcolm X always said "keep it plain", I guess it's better to suck plainly :)
Posted by: BilllyBob at June 4, 2002 07:38 PM
Is it jealousy that afflicts them?
Posted by: Rosencrantz at June 4, 2002 07:42 PM
Nay, tis madness that afflicts the Lakers opposed. A dark madness that chides the sun, and despises elegant beauty.
Posted by: Guildenstern at June 4, 2002 07:45 PM
Shaq must have purple soles on his high tops, They get that way when you stand in the 'paint' the entire game! A comment was made a few miles back about the 75' series and the players attitudes. The game of Basketball has changed a lot since then. Referees in the 70's would never allow Shaq to get away with the pushing and charging he calls basketball. I can remember when Basketball was a non-contact sport.
Posted by: janetdoggy at June 4, 2002 10:48 PM
That went away with 'The Bad Boys' [2x Champs].
Waxing nostalgic about the 1970's is major lame, but oh well.
I'm sure everyone would love Shaq more if he took fade away jumpers and flopped instead of battling for low post position.
Wasn't that what bigmen did in the '70s?
Posted by: Mr. Obvious at June 4, 2002 10:56 PM
If memory serves, Wilt & Kareem also staked out the painted area. It's called the "Center Position" or 5-spot. Some call it a "down low" or "low post" position.
I know it would be hard to know that watching todays brand of Center.
Posted by: LakerMan at June 4, 2002 11:00 PM
I think owning the 'block' is strictly a Laker tradition. Like winning Finals series.
Posted by: Nightfly at June 4, 2002 11:04 PM
Sad that the City of Angels is so under fire of late.
I imagine El Diablo (City of the Devil) would be America's favorite.
When my finest crafted Center of all-time is denied,...well, I think it might be time to open the 7th Seal :(
Perhaps it's not too late for Man. Shaq Haters Repent! The Angel City BigMan Shall Reign!!
Business Predicction: Todays Game
If the Lakers come out strong (1st qrtr), they will be immediately whistled down (and will be in foul trouble early).
The Lakers winning Game 1, from a Neilsons point of view would be disastrous.
America only keeps watching while the Lakers are on the ropes.
So, I predict like Philly's Game 1 victory last year, that Jersey will take Game 1 [just to keep viewers intererests up].
The outcome will have little do to with actual game play this game. This (like most 1st games) will be the Officials Choice.
Let's see who's selected to win!
Posted by: Nightfly at June 5, 2002 10:26 AM
1. basketball is the most popular sport in America, and is the best.
2. Shaq is a racist. And an overgrown monkey.
3. Lakers suck.
Posted by: jay at June 5, 2002 03:37 PM
plus the lakers are the yankees of basketball, you love to hate them
Posted by: jay at June 5, 2002 03:40 PM
Maybe I could respect Shaq for if he didn't sell his body like a whore to any conglomerate that wants to use his popularity to push their products. Case in point.... remember his double decker taco commercials? The oh so wonderful Shaq pack with mock processed cheddar cheese flavored substitute toxic waste dipping sause.... I bet 1 of those "meals" has 4x your daily requirement of sodium and about 30x saturated fat. And I must thank Shaq for his exquisitely mind numbing Nestle Crunch bar commercals. And we can all thank Shaq for contributing to our lives with his memorable rap album, and his 2 block buster movies "Steel" and "Kazaam." If you ask Shaq about any of these things he will proudly tell you what an awesome human being he is (in 3rd person context of course, as if he is someone else talking about Shaq) "Well, Shaq is the man. Shaq is bling-bling." The fact of the matter is that Shaq has a 120 million dollar contract with the Lakers..... if someone offered him 121 million he would pack his crap up and leave. He makes me sick. Who cares about the NBA anymore? Players and teams are bought and sold. And Shaq is a glimmering example.. the biggest sellout of all time.
Posted by: Shaq is a twat at June 6, 2002 01:21 PM
You incredibly ignorant twat! First off, we all read several of your eloquent diatribes about how poorly skilled (at B-Ball) Shaq is.
But, now, in the face of the clinic he put on against Jersey,... now it's all about his commercialism.
Right.
Funny I never heard that critique of Jordan? Hmmmm?
Also Shaq has made 'several' excellent rap albums, as well as a film everyone should see [who values TRUTH] called 'Blue Chips' (starring Nick Nolte, J.T.Walsh & Mary McDonnell).
Shaq will retire as a Laker - joining the upper pantheon of [West Coast] Legends of B-Ball. Joining the storied Lakers dynasty of all-time best Centers (started w/ Mikan).
What else ya got twat? What else don't you approve of about Shaq?
Posted by: Nightfly at June 6, 2002 04:25 PM
And funny how Jordan was never even remotely invsestigated for GAMBLING charges... despite it [probably] costing his father's life.
I guess it's just un-American to condemn Jordan for teaching Shaq how a brother can earn 'real' dough while 'playing ball'.
Yeah, for love of the game... right.
