Renew!

Well, it looks like the time has come for me to step into the carousel.

While I am entering my 30th year on planet earth, WWDN isn't even officially 1 year old, although technically I had the old, lame website up at this time last year...craziness.

My "My Yahoo!" page says, "Happy Birthday, TVsWilWheaton!" and when I click it, it takes me to this page. Check out who's number 3 on the celebrity birthday list! This made me giddy with excitement last year, and it did it again this year. :-)

Since it's my birthday, I think I'll start out the celebration by posting 7 things I'm grateful for on my birthday:

  1. In 30 years, I have never had a serious threat to my health, safety or general well-being.
  2. Anne.
  3. Just for grins one day, I put together a BBS for this site. It's become one of the most wonderful communities that I've ever seen on the Internet...and the people who hang out there rarely talk about me...it's all about them, and the virtual family that they have become.
  4. Batman. This has nothing to do with my birthday, really...I just really like Batman. Especially Dark Knight Returns Batman.
  5. Volkswagen. Without VW, I may never have been concieved.
  6. I'm not afraid to cry in front of anyone.
  7. Even though I kept her up most of last night with my "goddamned snoring," my wife has made a valiant effort to stay up with me until midnight, to tell me "Happy Birthday." She's currently asleep on the floor cuddling the dog.

Finally, I am amazed and grateful that people even give a shit about how I'm doing, and what I'm doing, and take the time to make things like this:

--
Thank you to everyone who sent me this image, and the cool site that posted it, and thank you to the scores of WWDN readers who have sent birthday wishes, especially those of you who have been visiting this lame website since it began.

An extra-special thank you is due to the Monkeys in the Soapbox. You guys RAWK, and you know why.

RENEW!! RENEW!!

Update at 09:27AM:
The kids in Farkistan are even doing a photoshop for my birthday! It just keeps getting better!

Happy birthday Wil Wheaton!

just turned 30 myself - it's not that bad, trust me...

Posted by: Wilful at July 29, 2002 12:19 AM

crap! second! looking immature and not even getting it right.

thanks for a cool year of witty, interesting, insightful blogs. Though me personally, I can't wait till it's winter in california, so we selfishly can read more. You're creating a monster here, Mr Wheaton - a monkey on your back.

now all I want is a ticket to LA, so I can come see some of your live stuff.

I know a song called "Turning 30" but I will spare you and not 'sing' it. Besides, you are already 30! So I wish you a heartfelt happy birthday...all the best...

Happy 30th Birthday Wil. Your 30's take a bit to get use to, but you'll learn to love em just as much as your way cool 20's.

The way you're headed, being thirty will be something you'll value rather than lament.

I hope you have a special day this day and that it's filled with fun time, great memories, and, most importantly, really cool presents.
Today is officially a no sock day.
No that doesn't mean you can go around leaving your smellies uncovered. It means that no one can give you socks, underwear or other equally lame pieces of clothing. They all have to be uber cool.
Like a flak jacket or something.
straight jacket?
*drools*

I should go now.

Anyone pick up on the irony that Wil's birthday is also the same as NASA's?

From the birthday page that Wil linked to in his blog entry:
"In 1958, President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act, which created NASA."

Wil, 30 is a great age! I'm at 39, about to do the big four-oh, and I feel like I'm twenty (but with the maturity one expects with such an age---I think---I still laugh at fart jokes). My relationship with my kids is phenomenially wonderful (son 10, daughter 13), and if anything, they keep my perspective clear on the world around me (and keep me watching cartoons). Happy birthday, and enjoy the next fifty or sixty! They will all be absolutely wonderful!

Hey Wil....Happy Birthday
I remember my 30th......I was 30 at the time.
Anyway, it was fun because I went to the Canadian National Exhibition or the CNE for the day. Its an annual event in my hometown and I looked forward to it every year when I was growing up. Once on my tenth birthday my dad asked me if I wanted a party or the 5 dollar bill he was holding....I took the cash and went to the CNE. Hey 5 dollars could do you the whole day there since every year the school would give you one free pass to the EX which I saved for my birthday and it only cost 10 cents each way for the streetcar so that would leave me $4.80 cents to blow. The had a food building that actually gave FREE samples so food was not a problem and the rides were only a quarter back then. Ahh the memories.....but anyway this is your birthday so have a good one and many more.

I always pop by this site when I need a smile and tonight I get to smile extra and send birthday wishes. What fantabulous timing!

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Have a good one and make a point to do a random birthday dance of joy at least once today. Or.. at least something equally silly and somehow amusingly rewarding.

Hi Wil-
I wasn't online during the weekend, but I want to belatedly wish you a very Happy Birthday. I turned 30 on May 7, so I know exactly how you're feeling! :) I can't believe "the boy" is all grown up! (My hubby, our friend, and I, who gather every week to watch ST:TNG on DVD can't help but laugh every time, in the early episodes, when someone refers to Wesley, as though he's not standing right there, as "the boy". Check it out-you'll see what I mean. It just cracks us up.) Anyway, congrats to your brother, too, on his marriage. Last but not least, I clicked on the link to your Aunt Val- very touching. She seemed like a great lady. That's all for now!

Hey Wil,
A lot of July birthdays, don't you think? Including mine on the 30th. I'll be 48. Yea, I know I am the old guy visiting WWDN, but hey, there's no age limit plus, I realate to all this stuff too and I am young at heart. You don't have to be thirty to be a fan and it shouldn't make you weird either. What's better is I look like I'm 35. My wife says it's oily (yuck) skin. I'll take it though. I am a frequent WWDN visitor and I now my son is a visitor too. It's a family thing. Have a great B-Day Wil, I know I'm going to.

I hope you've handled it better than I did when I hit the magic "oh my God where did my twenties go!!??" three zero.
It was only a year ago for me, but I'm still shocked it rocked my world as much as it did!
So... here's to a smooth, stress free transition into *choke* adulthood!
May the Force be with You!
Now go ring Paramount, and tell them that for your birthday you want either...
a) your scenes in ST NEMESIS to be recut into the film... OR
b) Wesley visits the Enterprise as the 'new' time travelling 'future guy' because he's been recruited by the 29th Century... or whoever it is throwing people back and fourth between centuries!
Take care, stay healthy, and enjoy every moment of your thirties!
As my mum tells me... "before you know it, you'll be forty!" *laughs*

"Volkswagon?" I don't drive, so I don't get it. Maybe it is just me. Happy birthday too :) You do realize that in about 32,000 years someone will find an old tape of ST:TNG, pop it in, and see the most intelligent character (Wesley, natch) and then their society will revolve around him being a god :P

I agree with the others: That "Wil Wheaton's Run" image would make a most excellent T Shirt.

Happy birthday Wil! I noticed this item (mainly because I am a cycling fan) on your birthday webpage:

July 29 — Lance Armstrong won his third straight Tour de France, ending three weeks of grueling competition and once again dominating the world's toughest cycling event. He became the first American to win the Tour three times in a row.

And yesterday he won his fourth.

Not that that's important. Just an interesting item. Umm. Anyway... Happy Birthday Wil!

Happy Birthday, Wil!

I already sent my greetings on the Supplies entry since I didn't know if you would be posting on your birthday, dead computer and all. Glad you have an entry for this wonderful day.

Geek that I am, when I went to your Yahoo link, the person I noticed having the same birthday as you was David Warner, who did 2 Trek movies and that TNG episode where he tortures Picard (the one episode I can't re-watch, it's so real). Sharing his birthday is pretty cool.

It was sweet of Anne to stay up to wish you Happy Birthday at midnight. And thanks for thinking of US with this entry, wow!

Enjoy the company of your family and friends this fine day. Sending you happy thoughts...did you feel the coolness of that breeze, hear the rustle of that leaf, see that cloud move across the sky?

My 3-year old: "What are you doing Mommy?"
Me: "I'm writing Happy Birthday to Wil Wheaton."
My 3-year old: "Why?"
Me: "Because I want to wish him a Happy Birthday."
My 3-year old: "Why?"
Me: "Because it's his birthday today."
My 3-year old: "Why?"
Me: "Because he was born 30 years ago."
My 3-year old: "Why?"
Me: "Because 30 years ago, a wonderful miracle happened and a baby was born and he grew up to become a kind, amazingly-gifted, truly-respected individual who humor and prose I deeply admire.
My 3-year old: "Oh... (slight pause) Mommy?"
Me: "Yes, honey?"
My 3-year old: "Am I a _MARIGOLD_ too?"
Me: "Yes, you are sweetie, you're my special little "marigold".
My 3-year old: "OK." (scampers away)

Have a rockin' good one, Wil ! ! ! :)

Well, I was working on a little comic strip for ya, but so far its not working out. So, I thought I'd just stop by to say Happy!Birthday!

Today is my boss's birthday, too. For his gift I told him that while I'm sure he's doing something illegal & unethical, I don't know what it is nor do I even have clue so I would be a terrible witness for the prosecution when his time comes. Hence one less person who could testify against him.

No, I didn't actually say that but I almost wish I did.

Anyway. Happy Birthday Wil!

Best wishes for a day that's as cool and eclectic as you are! I L-O-V-E that "Wil Wheaton's Run" image - totally cool!

Btw, I've sent you a few e-mails over the last few months asking if you want a Cake CD-single that I found. It's for Jolene and has 3 versions on it. If your interested, please drop a line with an addy and I'll send it right off. It would make a great (though somewhat belated) B-day present!

Long life and prosperity to you, Wil ~

Bad news though...you're now entering your 31st year on the planet! That year before you turned one after you were born was your first year, that year before you turn 31 is your 31st year. Picky, I know...I'm a perfectionist when it comes to numbers! Best wishes.

Well happy birthday!

If you would like to give to others on this special day, i have a suggestion.

Wendy over at http://www.twodolla.org has a thing about toilets, that is she collects pictures of them. She has a picture of mine (http://www.twodolla.org/blogathon i'm #44).

Anyway, she's made it her personal mission in life to somehow acquire a photo of YOUR toilet, and if you were to make this dream come true i know it would mean a great deal to her.

Thank you for your time, and enjoy your decade. (It really is much better than the first two)

Posted by: fish at July 30, 2002 07:20 AM

Look Wesley... um, I mean, Wil... when you said "...I am entering my 30th year on planet earth..." you're off by a year. If you're celebrating your 30th birthday, then you just finished the thirtieth and are entering your thirty-FIRST year. This nitpick is provided to you free of charge. Next time it'll cost you money.

What really brought me here was the posting on Slashdot about you taking on Barney at the DNA lounge. Good for you. Tear him a new one, OK?

Thanks for being my favorite character in one of my all-time favorite movies (Stand By Me).

Thanks for being one of my favorite characters on TNG. The episodes where you're made acting ensign and then full ensign are two of my favorites, and of course any time you bonded with the captain.

Happy Birthday, Wil. Congratulations on not falling off the Earth on your latest trip around the Sun.

I recall my mother (now in her 70s) saying that prior to the 1960s no one worried about 30 (re. "never trust anyone over 30"): therefore people of her generation didn't get all hung up on it. That was also pre-Logan's run. Worthwhile to think about it. Anyway, you've hit that age in style (good marriage, kids, and interesting career).

But I can't resist a dig: you aren't entering your 30th year. You did that when you turned 29 (birthdays indicate years elapsed: a baby turning 1 is just finishing its first year, not entering its first year). You're entering your 31st year.

Doh!

This my section! I'm back! Finally saw you on E.T. I'm like "HOTTIE!!" To bad I was born in 86' b/c there are so many of you born around 71' that have bf potential! You know, you're the reason I'm getting in to Star Trek TNG again? That and the fact that I'm getting myself ready for Nemesis and hoping to see Picard and Riker nude at the Betazed ceremony. To bad that they get sidetracked!! *sniffs* Oh well, they wanna let kids see this too! Well, now I gotta rocket!! L8rs!!! ~~*Gooniegirl*~~

On your not-now-birthday, here's a little secret Wil: You weren't my most hated Star Trek character. That one was the substitute Doctor for your on-screen Mother, who was so bad I refuse to remember her character's name. Which means you were only my second-most hated! Things to be proud of, I should have thought.

I saw your 30th birthday and the fact you gave Ashley Judd her first TV kiss mentioned on TV's "Entertainment Tonight". Happy 30th!

Happy Birthday Will! :)

Happy birthday you old fark.
The funny thing is, you don't look a day over Wesley Crusher...How do you keep those stunningly boyish looks? Must be the pollutants in the West Coast water supply.

Batman fan are ye? I have a present for you on my website then...

a Batman Lives script written by Kevin Smith.

I haven't read the whole thing, and I can't guarantee it's authentic. But if it's the real deal, it's a Batman script written by Kevin "Muthafarkin'" Smith.

It's in the Projects / Scripts area. You have to do some digging because my site is a pop-up window and an I-Frame. That bothers a lot of people, which is exactly why I do it.

Now, I'm going the hell to sleep.

But on the serious tip. Happy birthday Wil. You've got the world by the short and curlies, and it sounds like you know it, you enjoy it, and you appreciate God, Allah, Vishnu, Whoever everyday for it.

Thanks Mike. If I really cared, I'd get all huffy and be all "I'm not a dick." But it's kind of stupid.

Whatever.

A Belated happy birthday Wil!

I spent your special day flying home to Canada from South Korea. As I passed through Vancouver airport I saw the sign for cruise boat patrons, and stopped for a moment to acknowledge your birthday!
Hope it was a good one.

Hey Wil -- try Dark Knight Strikes Back, Miller's followup to Dark Knight Returns. The sensibility is very, very different.

I love life. I wish I had a pony,
Tom

Hey! Belated Happy Birthday!!
Oh man, I am such a Batman FREAK!!
Do you still read the Batman comics? If you do I'd love for you to comment on the latest storyline. Batman was funny in Kevin Smith's version of Green Arrow. If you want any links to any Batman websites, let me know. :-)
Glad you enjoyed your birthday. :-)
Here's to hoping you have many many more. :-)
luv,
-Su
ps. Don't know if you remember writer Peter David, but he's following your lead and has his own webblog thingy at peterdavid.net (but his server has issues or something and is down right now)
