« Bark at the moon | Main | Sell my old clothes, I'm off to heaven » December 16, 2002Look ma, I'm on TechTV!I love that I can sit here in a hotel in San Francisco, scan for an open WAP, and update my website. Now, if I can just have my damn flying car, the future will finally be here as promised. So this is just a reminder that I'll be guest hosting Screen Savers on TechTV, tomorrow (Tuesday the 17th). I'm off to enjoy this amazing city with my wife. UPDATE 12:09 PM 12.17.02: Attention Farkers: I will be wearing The Shirt. That is all. Comments

I wish I was there right now instead of in Toronto. (we just had our first real snowfall) Have a good time and say hi to Chinatown for me!! Posted by: Haley Comet at December 16, 2002 07:17 PMNo flying car? What do you mean no flying car? I swear I saw one in that Harry Potter movie! And even in that Star Wars too! Doesn't that mean they are real!? Damn ILM and double-damn George Lucas getting my hopes up like that... You mean you don't have a flying car? I have one... didn't you get the notice? Posted by: Brandon at December 16, 2002 07:41 PMI live around San Francisco (well, both north of it in Sonoma county and then south in Santa Cruz county) and we've never actually had TechTV on standard cable. Wil, I hope the next few days are clear for you and your wife (just you wait, I'll bet it'll start storming an hour after you leave). I wish I got techTV, in fact, I wish I got a lot of TV that we don't get, even with basic cable (the only networks that we get with basic I want is UPN and TNN, and since UPN is broadcast, we just use that), so, no Scifi, no TechTV, no nothin' Bugger :'( Someone send me the tape? (I promise I'll watch the comercials, well, I'll get up and leave them going, like I do normally) Posted by: hal97 at December 17, 2002 12:57 AMIMPORTANT! MOJO NEEDED FOR A CRITICALLY INJURED BABY! Wil and Posse: I know this isn't related to your TechTV news, but I need to ask for a big favor. I need the Wil Wheaton Posse mojo to get to work again, this time sending our thoughts and prayers to Children's Hospital in Washington, DC. I read about this incident yesterday, (link at http://www.nbc4.com/news/1839227/detail.html) but I had no idea that my daughter-in-law Eve is a friend of the mother. This morning, I read a post on my DIL's site (http://www.zenflea.com/index.htm) asking for prayers for this tiny baby. Her post follows: Send Your Prayers A friend of mine's 6 week old baby was attacked over the weekend by her dog. He is in critical condition at Children's Hospital. They need all the prayers and hope they can get, so please, I beg of you, even though you don't know these people, have them in your thoughts? Every little bit counts. Thanks. End post from zenflea. So, c'mon, Posse. Crank up the mojo again for this baby and family. Thanks. I'll keep you posted. Flying car? How about a flying DeLorean? :) BTTF Trilogy DVDs are out tomorrow (17th)! If so, does anyone else recognize that shirt? :> Posted by: Coldshark at December 17, 2002 05:29 AMoh and about flying cars... i remember a story about some people from another planet whose ancestors were from earth... anyway, they had magnetically floating cars. could that be actually done? or we could just get Robin Williams make us some more blubber... i mean flubber. :) Posted by: suzy at December 17, 2002 05:32 AMGo to Swan Oyster Depot on Polk Street. It's the best for fresh oysters, clams, and crab. Have a great time in the beautiful city by the bay! Posted by: Molly at December 17, 2002 06:48 AMThose Airport cards are pretty good at finding open WAPs. I used mine to pay my bill online (someone else's online -- I think they live in my building) when the ISP cut off my DSL. Sure, I know my credit card info flitted through the spectrum for a microsecond, but it was at least an https connection. FWIW. And there's really no extra money in that account anyway -- can't steal what isn't there. I snicker when I think of someone lifting my wallet. I think my biggest liability there is my library card. Keepin' on. Yeah. Posted by: Drakensykh at December 17, 2002 07:03 AMI've never been to San Francisco... I never will... I've never forgiven them...for the death of my boy...

Posted by: Year Round Produce at December 17, 2002 09:42 AMYou should treat your wife to a nice show at the Nob Hill or the O'Farrell theater. On second thought she might not enjoy that sort of exotic entertainment... I know I can kill a whole day in SF going to Japantown, the Metreon, the SF Moma, or saying a little prayer as I walk over the GG bridge for all the depressed people who leaped to their deaths from it. Yikes. Posted by: RetroRandy at December 17, 2002 09:43 AMHi Wil, I suppose what I'm trying to say is thank you for making her smile and chuckle and... well you know Stuff. Posted by: Dick Fitts. at December 17, 2002 10:46 AMWell, I can't afford a trip to San Francisco right now..so I guess I'll just have to settle for playing Midtown Madness 2. I've never watched Screen Savers before...but if Wil is on it, then I guess there is no excuse for me not to see it! I'm even on vacation this week. So that's either fate or blind chance. Coinkydink! Good lord. It is time. Past time, really. Can we all just PLEASE chip in and buy Wil a new freakin' shirt??? He did mean "The Shirt," right? "The Shirt" that he's wearing in like every other picture taken in the last year? You know, "The Shirt" (tm). Or wasn't that the shirt he meant? And don't get shirty with me about this, Mister. I love Avery (and DS9) a lot to begin with, but that ad was all the more funny to me, ecause the first time my wife I stepped outside on Jan. 1, 2000 that was the first thing I said: "Where are the flying cars they promised us?!?" A couple moths later, that ad debuted. Corky, MOJO MOJO MOJO MOJO.... I hope it helps! My thoughts are with the baby and her family. Wil, I'll be watching Tech TV tonight! I think we get that channel on DirecTV. I hope it's not on the same time that Trio is showing reruns of the late, lamented, "Action!" That show was hilarious, as all three of you who watched it know. Have fun in SF, and say hi to Bob Weir for me. i'll have to get my sisters to tape tss for me tonight; i don't get home until thursday :( especially if you're going to be wearing The Shirt! How is it that a person of your subservient stature is deserving of his own web-page! I am thorougly outraged at this matter! Throughout my life I have embraced internet icons such as Ron Jeremy and John Holmes to the fullest of my abilities but Wil Wheaton! He is not fit to carry my jacket the penitent plebian! Wil, save the internet bandwith for someone who is deserving of such the honor of being placed, immortalized if you will for the world in it's entirety to embrace and hold! The guy who keeps plugging his band, also keeps screwing up its name. Thet are not "Hot Fat", they are "Hot Fat Ass Losers". Posted by: Dave at December 17, 2002 05:08 PMWil, I sure hope you're using some encryption when checking your email and updating your site over public WiFi (or private wifi, since really all wifi is very public). Email me if you want some tips on how to safely use your mac on untrusted networks. If you don't use encryption on wireless networks, you _will_ regret it. Especially in a city like SF, where there are tons of people capturing data off the air. Heck, I was dumping data off wireless networks just last night in SF! Speaking of which, you were missed at the creative commons thing lastnight (for which your name was on the guestlist..). There was even a live performance of the original trek theme :) Posted by: phyxeld at December 17, 2002 05:12 PMWatching the show right now and enjoying every minute of it. Me and my friends fully fully believed that by the year 2000 (a year insanely distant back in the 80s) just about everyone would own their very own Flying Car(TM). Somebody mentioned a while back that Gates McFadden had some words to say about Wil and how he was treated- but I can't seem to find that interview. I looked on startrek.com, but I didn't see it. If someone would be kind enough to send me a link, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you very much! :) allywag67@aol.com Every icon needs to have their own T-shirt. Just look at Charlie Brown. Always in that same drab shirt. Same with Unky Wil. Maybe he will have this shirt on when he gets his pic taken for his book. Leo is getting really annoying and you did SUCH a better job. I'm getting tired of Leo peddling his book. Then it is true about the second coming... You are the son of God! Posted by: James at December 18, 2002 08:24 AMI know, I know, I know ... said before it has been but said again it shall be.... Wil Wheaton you are just the coolest, most down to Earth type of guy. Wish I could know you in person but I'm glad enough just to catch what you share here. Thanks:) Posted by: The Johnson at December 18, 2002 08:32 AMFor those that wanted to know how to contact techtv, here is a link to their feedback: http://cgi.techtv.com/memberservices?view=feedback Posted by: Neil Bradley at December 18, 2002 08:39 AMI LOVED the show last night. I'm a regular viewer of The Screensavers from way back (God, I miss Kate Botello). Anyway, I thought that you were a hoot. I hope that if you can't do a regular gig (since you'd have to move to SanFran), you'd at least be asked back regularly to guest host. Yes, I also hope that you will be paired with Martin next time. While I normally like Patrick when he is paired up with Leo, he really didn't mesh well with you. I think he actually came off as condescending. I especially liked when you were picking on the guy who wrote on his face (what was THAT about?). Anyway, keep up the good work..! Posted by: Bryan Irrera at December 18, 2002 08:40 AMWell, I saw the show, and it was good to see you on the small screen again, but man oh man, you DID geek out! "What would Santa Clause use. . . " What would happen if you meet Stan Lee? Would you geek out and ask "In a fight, who would win - the Hulk, or Spidey?!" I mean, you're far more witty and intelligent than that. Anyway, other than the silly Clause conversation, it was fun to watch the show. I hope you can get over being snubbed by Paramount/Trek and can rebuild your career on either the small or big screen. BTW: bomb iraq! (my reply to the notice on your front page) ;) I'm disappointed that you have become such a left winger, but I'm glad to hear that you don't buy what the media has to say. I was very much amused to hear you refer to the AP as the Associated Repressed - I was literally laughing out loud because as a conservative that's my exact opinion of mass media. --Kim Posted by: Kimberly Lazarski at December 18, 2002 09:16 AM"I'm sorry, did you just say Patty Labell had a big rack?" One of the 10 funniest things I've heard this year. You did a great job Wil, and you were very entertaining. Perhaps Tech TV should think about a "geek show" with you as host! Posted by: Wayne Moran at December 18, 2002 09:16 AMI think TechTV should can Leo or Patrick with you. Leo is just plain annoying, and Patrick has no personality, watching a piece of plywood on TV for and hour and a half would be more interesting. Posted by: Bee at December 18, 2002 09:22 AMHey Wil, Saw Nemesis last night. Thought it was just O.K. Not as cool as I thought it would be (Unlike "The Lord of the Rings" which was awesome). Kinda like watching a two hour TNG episode. Anyways, Dude, you were still all over the wedding scene. I saw you more than bride and groom. ;-) I think Wes shoulda jumped out of the front of the Enterprise and flew over to Shinzon and hugged him saying "Come here ya Big Weirdo!!" Oh yeah!, Did I mention that RICK BERMAN IS A DICK!!!!!! Posted by: shrednfred at December 18, 2002 10:00 AM Tuned in to T.S.S., cause, well, you were gonna be there. Really enjoyed it, and I hope there's a way to make sure that you're a regular. SONSABITCHES!!!!!!! I WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS INSOLENCE!!! The fight has begun! Wil Wheaton will come out not the victor! WE SHALL OVERCOME!!! BUDWEISER!!! COPENHAGEN!!! FOX TV!!!!!! Hey, dude! Check out my band at hot-fat.com. And yes, we are hot fatass losers. We're still cooler than you. B'bye! Posted by: Dick. at December 18, 2002 11:05 AMWil, it was funny how he kept screwing up and saying .com. The second time you said "ITS DOT NET" and I yelled it at the same time you said it. It was funny. *waiting for my autographed pic* :) Oh yeah, Happy holidaze and all that jazz. Posted by: Michelle at December 18, 2002 05:47 PMhey, band losers: take it someplace else. You're way past annoying. Posted by: fb at December 19, 2002 02:17 AMThat was the first time I saw the screen savers. It seemed like a fun show. Who was the old guy in the beginning...was that who you were filling in for? Posted by: Grimicus at December 19, 2002 11:43 AMabout them cheap PC's they run linux like crap. The intel 845 video cards are a major pain to get working. Posted by: mitchell at December 19, 2002 01:46 PMSorry I missed it - sounds like it was a great episode. Any idea if/when TechTV will re-air it? Anyone still have it on TiVo or a have a VHS copy to share? Posted by: Josh at December 20, 2002 06:53 AMUmm......I must apologize deeply for the actions of my cohorts and myself, pertaining to the useless and unpertaining comments left on this coments section. I have always held you in higher esteem than you might believe as an actor, and I wish to warn all who read here against the perils of drinking and e-mailing. Just drinking is much better for everyone. Serendipitously, Posted by: Dick Fitts. at December 20, 2002 07:03 AMI caught you on Screensavers and you were great. Tech TV should give you a show to do. I also caught the infomercial you did for the 3d thing... hope they paid you well. :) Posted by: Scott at December 24, 2002 11:16 AMHome videos galleries kIm BASiNgER GaLLERIES.
