« On The Road | Main | weekend. » January 22, 2003Auditions 3: The Search for SpockHere's a quick update on I, Robot: They put about 100 actors on tape last week. 20 of those tapes were sent to the director, including mine. He will pick a few he likes, and have meetings with them this week or next. Wish I had more info, but that's it. Strangely, I'm not sitting here, stomach in knots, agonizing over whether I'll get it or not. While I would love to work with Alex Proyas (I am a HUGE Dark City weenie) and play a robot, I don't have the life-or-death feeling that used to accompany auditions. And as far as I know, they didn't see anyone from Jimmy Kimmel's family. Comments
Woo first post, maybe. OOooh second post! I am a Dark City weenie as well. Alright, you made the first cut. Good news. What's up with Jimmy Kimmel? Is this an LA-only item? Posted by: Drakensykh at January 22, 2003 10:44 AMWell, I've never said this about a man before, but I caught that interview of you on BBC, and your voice is HOT! You'll make a good robot, I believe.....I could see it. Finger's crossed and much creative mojo I send your way, dude. Posted by: jeffroDOH at January 22, 2003 10:44 AMWil: If you get to meet Proyas, ask him if SCIFI is ever going to air the "Riverworld" film/pilot he made for them. It was based on the novel by Philip Jose Farmer, and looked like it had some promise. Proyas or SCIFI or Alliance Atlantis said at one point it would air in January of this year. Mojo, by the way. Posted by: WatchSmart at January 22, 2003 10:44 AMKeep us posted. And eventough you don't seem to be nervous about the outcome, I'm sure we'd all love to see you in the role. Ana Marylee Posted by: anamarylee at January 22, 2003 10:45 AMwaiting.........The best party of the whole experiance of everything! Posted by: StevenZ at January 22, 2003 10:46 AMGood Luck Wil got a bucket of Mojo to dump on ya. It would be awesome to see you in that movie. I'm anxiously awaiting it myself. Dark City was the first DVD I ever bought. =:o) Posted by: Mr Fibby at January 22, 2003 10:49 AMIt's cool that you're so laid back about the outcome. Even so, I'm sending mojo your way. No, not Mojo Jojo. That poop-flinger had better watch his fuzzy ass or I'll get out the shaving cream, tomato sauce, and rubber du ... umm I've said too much, haven't I? Seriously though, you are quickly rising to become one of my favorite personalities. I was one of the few who never had a problem with Wesley (except for my unfortunate habit of confusing him with Westley in the Princess Bride). Every time I've seen you in a movie, you have put forth a damn fine performance. You have shown yourself to be intelligent and humorous in this blog. I'd wish you the best but I suspect that you will succeed in attaining it without my help. Posted by: Owen at January 22, 2003 10:50 AMAs some wag noted once, life's what happens when you're making other plans. I found that all the good things in my life started happening once I stopped worrying about them. You've got some cool things going on in other parts of your life and are lucky enough to have gained an invaluable resource - perspective. Having said all that, good luck in getting the part. It's cool to see you workin' it! -strange Posted by: strangeloops at January 22, 2003 10:53 AMMOJO to you Wil - here's hoping they recognise talent when they see it. Posted by: Danielle at January 22, 2003 10:53 AMI Robot I think would be way better than the Coppola pic.. However I am a sci fi kind of guy.. Wil, you will always be our hero no matter what. I admire your energy, talent, and passion. Stay cool Wil! Right now I am currently freezing. It is minus 34 cel. wind chill in Toronto. :S Posted by: artisticspirit at January 22, 2003 10:55 AMthe kimmels are coming! the kimmels are coming! here a kimmel, there a kimmel, everywhere a kimmel kimmel... but what i want to know is, when are they going to give you an after midnight talk show? Posted by: christy at January 22, 2003 11:02 AMgod DAMN, it would be nice to see you acting in a major release again, wil! I just saw Nemesis about fell out of my seat when I saw you in the wedding seen. I thought you were totally cut out and was prepared to be very bitter through the entire movie. I was praying all through the movie that it would end in a naked wedding, no such luck. Congrats on the audition. You have awesome character, on and off screen, it's only a matter of time before you find the right showcase for the onscreen kind. Clearly you've got the off-screen part nailed. Posted by: Lisa at January 22, 2003 11:11 AMI will think mucho good thoughts in your direction. Awesome making the first cut! Posted by: Sunidesus at January 22, 2003 12:03 PMGood job on the first cut Wil, and i know you've gotten a lot of people saying the same thing (i read through to where I posted), so I won't type it all out, but my feelings are the same as theirs on the whole priorities/perspective thing. I thought about paraphrasing 'Field of Dreams', but saying this is enough ;) Oh, on an un-related note, you should check out that book I emailed you about. It's definately worth the time it'll take you to read the 330 or so pages. Ryan_W Oh yeah - LOVED the 'Search for Spock' joke :) Posted by: Ryan_W at January 22, 2003 12:05 PMNow that you mention it, Grandpa Kimmel would be GREAT in I, Robot!! Posted by: Vanessa at January 22, 2003 12:31 PMWil, even though you may have felt a bit dissapoined with your audition due to being star struck, your work speaks for itself, hence why you had an audition to begin with.... Posted by: Samantha Lee at January 22, 2003 01:18 PMsee there you go wil not expecting to get anything. thats good! I just saw Nemesis as well and was happy at seeing Wil for all of 7.21 seconds. However, the rest of the film just needed help in a big way. Not a single character (save for 'Admiral' Janeway and Dr. Crusher) acted in a way consistent with 7 TV years and 3 films. Suspiciously absent altogether: any mention whatsoever about Lwaxana Troi or the fact that Betazed was taken in the Dominion War (see Deep Space 9), Kyle Riker, Worf's feelings for Troi as shown in many ways in the final episode of the TV series. Yes, I be geeking. Posted by: The Slice at January 22, 2003 01:19 PMI was reading the post and thinking... Cool, He's still in the running... Good, he's not stressing over it... Jimmy Kimmel o.0 BWAHAHAHAHAH!! Wil, you are too cool. Posted by: AngelGypsy at January 22, 2003 01:21 PMMy stomach is in knots for some reason. Go figure? Posted by: ze-mag at January 22, 2003 01:24 PMGlad to know that your not stressing over it. Lots of mojo to you, Wil. Enjoyed the report of your encounter with Emilio Estevez. As long as you can support your family that is all that matters. Not to mention you have a loving wife, 2 wonderful step children and a great family supporting you since that very first commercial. And you should thank GOD that no one from the Jimmy Kimmel family has ever been in or ever made a movie. PS I will continue the good MOJO for you Posted by: terry at January 22, 2003 01:52 PMI've not seen Dark City, but when I looked to see what else Proyas had directed...wow, The Crow? I adore that movie, it's a masterpiece. I really hope the director thinks you're right for the part, or any part in the film. It seems as if it would be a lot of fun and just yeah, really cool. Hi Wil, I just wanted to wish you the best of luck in getting the I Robot part! I would love to see your acting work again, and I'm also looking forward to your book. THE OZZMAN................. Posted by: The Ozzman at January 22, 2003 04:51 PMMy significant other digs "Dark City". I found it a tad...well..."dark and arty". I like a generous helping of science in my science fiction and the environment shape shifting was too unexplained for my literal, american t.v. watching, explain-it-to me, mind. Dark City - reminded me of how a schizophrenic might see the world and that hurt my head. My significant other loved the open-endedness of the story and the ending. Me - felt empty - needed closure(s). I guess that's why I liked Matrix better - I could understand the technology behind the story/concept. Plenty of MOJO coming your way from the Great White North (just south of Canada). I think I can understand a ROBOT - well, maybe not a shape shifting mind control ROBOT who can bend time/space and infinity. Here is your...MOJO - good luck Yay, Wil! That's fantastic! Nice going, HMIC. Even though it's 1:30 am in my neck of the woods, I can still spare some MOJO before bedtime... ;) Posted by: ChimChim at January 22, 2003 05:47 PMhey if you get the part you might be able to imitate this story on the Onion ("Kim Jong II unfolds into giant robot") http://www.theonion.com/onion3902/kim_jong_ii.html but seriously, sending mojo from jo (but not mojo jojo, he's a mean monkey) Posted by: jo at January 22, 2003 06:20 PMGood luck, brutha. Kristi Posted by: Kristi at January 23, 2003 04:57 AMSPOILER ALERT ! SCENE FROM "I, ROBOT" SCRIPT: Robot: Wil Wheaton A dimly lit room. A robot stands in shadows against a wall. Suddenly a door opens and light from a sanitary hallway floods the room illuminating the robot. The room contains one chair and no other furnishings. The inspector takes a moment to look over the room then saunters in. The inspector adjusts his hairpiece where he thinks the robot will not see him while at the same time snugging up his girdle to help suck in his prodigious girth. Then the inspector moves over to face the robot. Inspector: Are you R. 709? Robot: That is correct. Inspector: Did... You... know the late... Mr. Spinkter? Robot: I was his personal assistant, sir. May I ask who you are? Inspector: No. I'll do the talking here. All... You... Robots... are alike. Robot: That's not correct, sir. Most models-- Inspector: Be quiet! I... need... to know what you were doing the night of October third. And... you used a contraction? Robot: You got a problem with that? Inspector: No, nevermind. And... Stop... Evading... The question. Robot: I was not evading your question. To answer it, I was hot waxing Mr. Spinkter's friend. Inspector: You were what? Nevermind. What... Was... Her name? Robot: Her name was, Rightler. The Inspector's face changes as though he suddenly realizes something. Inspector: What did this Rightler look like? -break- The scene continues with a fist fight, loss of hairpiece, swearing and the inspector trying to use logic to talk the Robot into shutting down to no avail. END OF SPOILER! Best of luck, Wil. Of, course the above scene may change before the actual movie comes out. Posted by: Nyarl at January 23, 2003 06:07 AMWil liked my idea. I'll have to go back and read 'em one of these days... as soon as I've finished the Deathstalker series by Simon R. Green. (I highly recommend it to anyone who's curious. Posted by: ladyhawke at January 23, 2003 06:21 PMGood luck, Wil! I'd send you some mojo, but I'm afraid that it would freeze on its way across the Great Plains. One question...how big is the part? Seems like a big one if you have to go through several hoops and meet with the director. So set us straight. Big role? Little role? Heck, Wil on screen is reason enough for me to tune in. And since this is the umpteenth time that I've read a comment mentioning Majel's character not being in Nemesis, I thought that I would pass along something I read while looking for Nemesis spoilers. Don't take my word for it. I haven't seen the movie because I'm waiting for the DVD and the deleted scenes. But I read somewhere (probably aintitcoolnews.com) that Majel was absent from the movie because Lwaxana had died sometime between IX and X. Its only a brief line in the movie and one that probably got cut, but that's why. Then again...it was just a spoiler. And I could be off my rocker.
