Me -- I just spent the day on the phone with siblings after our dad was injured in an accident. He's okay -- but for a few hours there all us far-flung brothers and sisters were burning up the cell phone lines trying to find out how he was doing. Just spoke to him; he's tired and in pain but going to be okay.

Reminded me that they won't always be there to talk to -- so we have to savor our loved ones while we have them.

So anyway Wil, since you mentioned walking away from the computer, I decided to do the same. So I slipped ST II:TWOK into the DVD player. About a third of the way through the movie and I found myself right back on the computer looing something up. Specificly I thought I read that Checkov (Walter Koenig) was not in the TOS episode "Space Seed", yet in STII, Kahn specificly "remembers" Checkov, stating that he "never forgets a face".

I've been workin with Dell after movin to Pennsylvania, and the machines are so simple to set up for these companies.... ghost image on the server - toss in a floppy - turn machine on - hit enter when complete... *shrug* and they want people with multiple $5,000+ certifications to do this....

For I have not read Wil's website for a week I didn't read that he is not in the best of moods, and I would love to join in and make his mood a bit better then it is right now.

If it wasn't for your website I wouldn't know what I would have done to pass my time. For a while my life sucked big time. I didn't know what to do with my life till I found your website. To read how your life was going and your thoughts made me to look for a job and go to school again. Now I am a bookkeeper and although it does not sound like a cool job I love it and enjoy it. And even right now I am trying to join the Army to make my life more purposefull but I and other people need you to cheer up and start enjoying life more. Spend some quality time with your stepchilderen and your wife. Get a fix done on your book. Everyone may say the book sucks, but that is a small group of people. Send out the book, and stop worrying and start enjoying.

I have to use a disclaimer before posting this: I'm going to sound TOTALLY out of touch, because I AM totally out of touch...I listen to too much Howard Stern in the morning, on my way to work, because he's pretty damn funny, at least when he's insulting celebrities in his own not so subtle yet still subversive way. His central message when commenting upon the impending war is simply "Bomb Sadaam," "Kill Osama" and "What are we going to do, let the terrorists win?" He's pretty much a Bush athletic supporter, which makes him come off as a simpleton, or at least a fatcat who is too comfortable in his millions to look deeper into the real issues we are facing. I have to admit, because I just stumbled upon WWDN last week, I'm realizing how many people are speaking out against the war, and am trying to become more informed and involved. Thanks for all of your insights, and thanks for the great movies, Wil. I've printed out your filmography from a Google search, and am going to make a point of trying to rent as many of them as possible. Maybe the general public IS totally being snowed. When I was in college, during the Gulf War, I was listening to "Die For Oil, Sucker" by Jello Biafra, and believing in it. Now, I've become complacent in my rat-race mentality. we got about 5 inches of snow in my part of southern illinois...and that kind of slows everything down...which gave me a much needed break...i spent a glorious weekend getting some rest...starting a new BEN BOVA novel and watching "WING COMMANDER" again...and of course i enjoyed playing in the snow!

I've always been a fan. Moving on this is your website and it is your right to do what you wish. My only argument would be that you seem to support free speech. If all website owners deleted/prevent access to posts then that free speech would only be in the hands of those able (financial or technically) to own a website. Which I personally think s a bad thing. I understand you might have reason to refer people to the soapbox. I only take issue with the loss of the original posts.

P.S. Senator Byrd was a KKK member and I don't forgive/support KKK or SS members for anything as a mater of habit.

I am a part of the UE community. As a part of that community, I've come to expect some level of accountability. We take responsibility for what we say to each other at UE - in posts as much as in comments. Although I know I can't expect the same of all the wwdn monkeys (there are just so many), I really hoped I could count on you for some of that accountability.

During the course of the discussion yesterday, it was clear that the argument over war could go on ad nauseum. You're right that such discussions may best be moved to another forum.

Several of us also asked you about your hats-off link to Robert Byrd. I woke up this morning wondering how you had responded.

I am disappointed to find that your response is, well, cowardly. Please respond, Wil.

Were you aware of Senator Byrd's record when you linked to his speech? Does this record matter to you? Does it matter to you less than does, say, Trent Lott's record?

I am asking you these questions only because you are here putting your opinions in the public eye just as I do on my own page. If you want my own opinion, I think both Lott and Byrd should have been gone from government long ago, I am a registered Independent, and you can read my page to find out more about me if you care.
