« Big Day. | Main | Big Day End. » October 23, 2003Big Day MiddleMy meetings went really well. The guys I saw at VH-1 seemed very excited about me, and I ::heart:: the idea they have. I think we are "on the same page" as they say in Hollywood, and maybe something will come of it. My second meeting went equally well, and I am now officially "attached" to a project. About my Comic Shop Idea: Many readers pointed out, in comments to the previous entry, that it sounds just like Empire Records. I didn't make the Empire Records connection, which is good, because I thought that movie was the biggest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. My idea is more about the people and their relationships. I'd just use the shop as a location, and work in some of those archetypes we've all come to know. Hrm. Just like Empire Records, but in a comic shop. Well, fuck me. In other news, I'd just like to point out that Gator is Spyware. See you all at the LASFS tonight! And by "all," I really mean none. But you'll read about it tomorrow. Or something. Hey, I'm first!! Major mojo heading your way, Wil. Good luck! Posted by: Thespar at October 23, 2003 03:13 PMIt'll be easy to distance yourself from the other flick. Don't hire Renee Zewelleger or that limey guy from Grease 2. For the sake of box office, however, you might want to go ahead and start talking to Liv Tyler's people. Posted by: Greg at October 23, 2003 03:13 PMWil Wheaton has graduated to VH1ness. It happens when so many people admire you. Posted by: ze-mag at October 23, 2003 03:18 PMYAY! I know I'd watch. Also, you know that people send you mojo because you need it. If you were asking for it, we wouldn't. The public is finicky that way. Posted by: Niki at October 23, 2003 03:22 PMActually, the comic book shop idea is more like Welcome to Eltingville, a one-off show Cartoon Network aired on Adult Swim. The story involved the comic shop getting one of the original Boba Fett action figure, and the local geeks engaging in a trivia contest to decide who could buy it. Actually, it was really depressing to watch once I realized I knew all the answers. Posted by: Sean O'Hara at October 23, 2003 03:30 PMWell first off you rocked in your 10 seconds in I love the 80's and although they never mentioned your name, they did cover the leech scene so you are already a VH1 star. Also I sorta liken the geekyness of your comicbook story to the guys in HiFidelity so if your gonna get Liv Tyler to do the movie you should also get Jack Black to be the guy that never leaves the store. Posted by: Jared at October 23, 2003 03:49 PMDid you *really* have to say "on the same page?" (Even with the quotation marks.....) I really thing you should have mentioned how Gator is spyware! well I'd come out to the LASFS meeting thing, but I've got a Kings game tonight! wooooooo! Have fun. I know I will! heee p.s. gator is SPYWARE Posted by: lomara at October 23, 2003 06:28 PMOhhhh Kings and Sabres. I'm way jealous, Lomara. "HOW MUCH TIME IS LEFT?!" "One minute. One minuite remaining in the first period." It's like Rocky Horror times 16005. Posted by: wil at October 23, 2003 06:33 PMHey, about the comic shop idea: have you seen Comic Book Villains? Posted by: jade at October 23, 2003 06:35 PMWil- ... and thank Jeebus I got Dancing barefoot on Tuesday, I see I would have missed it if I hadn't! (unless I go to a comic store in California...) Posted by: licalicious at October 23, 2003 06:40 PM/It's like Rocky Horror times 16005./ Are you testing me, because I swear that's the seating capacity for Kings games at the Forum. hah. Posted by: lomara at October 23, 2003 06:49 PMEven if you hated Empire Records, mentioning it in a pitch might jog the foggy memory &/or imagination of whatever producer/studio exec you'd be talking to. I like your idea. And I think someone eles mentioned the notion of taking it in a Waiting for Godot direction, which would rock. Nothing forces people to deal with each other quite like the absence of the person they are waiting for. Posted by: uberlibra at October 23, 2003 07:22 PMActually, your idea reminded me of High Fidelity with John Cusack. Although, the comic book thing is just different enough, and the rest of the story is probably very different, that you could probably swing it. In other news, you totally inspired me to have my first Guiness of the fall :) I think it was that picture in your moblog that did it. MMmmm. It was good. Nectar o' the gods... If I ever find myself in your neighborhood again, I'll buy you one!! ~sL Posted by: Steph at October 23, 2003 07:26 PM(and best of luck with those new projects, too, by the way) Posted by: steph at October 23, 2003 07:28 PMok.. i was the nimrod that first mentioned 'Empire Records'.. ok.
but seriously wil, your idea does sound like a good one. and honest, it doesnt' sound too much like empire..more like high fidelity... next time i compare something with you, i'll think of something uber cool, or high art... Gator installs itself on my stupid computer EVERY WEEK! Thank God for spybot. *eyetwitch* *scrolls up to top* Hey Wil... how about Over the Top meets Rounders. A guy travels the country in his truck playing poker at truck stops so he can earn enough money to play in the WSOP. Now if we could only find someone who is a cross between Sly Stallone and Matt Damon. Posted by: CJ at October 24, 2003 02:33 PMActually, even more than Empire Records (which which really only good for the guy who ended up being Rusty #4 in Vega$ Vacation, and he devoured by Gwar dream), it reminds me of Smoke. You know, that ad-libbed thing with Harvey Keitel running a cigar shop? Posted by: Gandalfe at October 24, 2003 03:33 PMGator Is Spyware. Lucky for me it doesn't run on OS X. K Posted by: macfixer at October 27, 2003 02:19 PMI can't believe you are taking your chances with the Gator comment, er, well, yes I can, .. but you're right it is, and as far as anything else that gets installed on my PC and monitors what I do is spyware. Posted by: MacBros at October 27, 2003 08:19 PMI also hope you get the Movie part too Wil, you deserve it. As well as the TV Host job. Posted by: MacBros at October 27, 2003 08:24 PMGator hijacks sites traffic. It is bad for webmasters and visitors. The company is very litigious. Posted by: Mahesh at October 29, 2003 09:18 AMDude, Just do what you wish to do.. as soon as you start comparing to other 'nearly simular' experiences, you look your focus on what you need to do. I think you are right on with your 'quest' Johnny. Sorry 'bout that :) Kick a** love the book. Post a commentThanks for signing in, . Now you can comment.
