« Comments from the wife, version 3.2 | Main | lowercase west thomas » February 23, 2004\m/On the way home from school today, Nolan and I were listening to Ethel on XM 47. A band that I am not familiar with, called "The Distillers", did their rock and roll thing. It was pretty cool, so I turned it up, and took advantage of the break in our storm to open all the windows and the sunroof. "Is that person singing a boy or a girl?" Nolan said. "I'm not sure. Why?" I said. "I saw this video, and I can't tell if it's a boy or a girl." He said. "That's what Rock and Roll is all about, Nolan." Comments
I would suggest buying the boy a best of David Bowie CD. But then again in the 80s there were a hell of a lot of guys on MTV with more make up than the girls. The Distillers rock, and the singer is a chick. Posted by: WrexSoul at February 23, 2004 04:55 PMBrody Armstrong, former wife of Tim "Lint" Armstrong of Rancid/Transplants/Operation Ivy, to be precise. And indeed, the Distillers rock out. :) Posted by: Forrest at February 23, 2004 05:06 PMBuy him a Sigur Ros CD. It's a guy singing :) Posted by: Mike C at February 23, 2004 05:15 PMAnd if anybody doubts it, just check out 4 Non Blondes covering "Misty Mountain Hop" on "Encomium: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin". You'd swear it wasn't a cover. Posted by: Joe at February 23, 2004 05:34 PMNolan rules. Just think of my confusion when I first saw Hanson. Posted by: Abby at February 23, 2004 05:43 PMI saw Sigor Ros live after mentioning to my uncle that I liked them. My uncle really, really loves me, and he's a great person, so he got me the tickets without questioning it when they came to Detroit. Granted, the seats weren't that great, but I didn't realize how much of a shot in the dark it was for him until afterwards, when he looked at me and said, "So. Couldn't really see anything from where we were... is that chick hot?" Posted by: Caroline at February 23, 2004 06:21 PMOk, I'm stumped. What the heck is the \m/ thing that keeps showing up? Posted by: Roach at February 23, 2004 06:41 PMI think the front person is a woman, at least from the pictures I've seen. Though I did think for a long time that the front man for Marilyn Manson was a woman too. It's hard to tell them apart nowadays. Posted by: Lizette at February 23, 2004 06:52 PMHey Wil, I haven't visited this site since, well, about a couple of months. I'm glad to see you're still here. You entertain me so much from time to time. Keep them coming. Lot's of love from here. Posted by: Gooniegirl at February 23, 2004 07:10 PMRoach - the \m/ thing is computer-speak for the rock and roll symbol. You know...pinky, fist, pointer? Hope this helps...and I hope I'm not wrong...if I am, I look like a total ass. Oh well. What's new? Posted by: Abby at February 23, 2004 07:42 PMSigur Ros is one of my top bands ever. Rock out to THAT in your car, and just for fun, see how long you can keep Nolan thinking it's a girl. :) Posted by: Anders at February 23, 2004 07:47 PM Wil Wheaton, Oh, God, The Wheaton family. You guys are such Ethel on XM 47 - Unfortunately us yankies who Nolan, Good night to The Wheatons - uhm Yikes to the comment before mine. Rock on you guys...rock on. Posted by: Caitlin at February 23, 2004 08:41 PMRock n' roll indeed. Thank God for David Bowie - the world is a better place because of people like him. Great talent, even better message. Posted by: jimmy at February 23, 2004 08:57 PMmost super awesome quote of the day Wil, and a damn proper education for the young in the ways of tolerance and straight out coolness. Posted by: Yvonne at February 24, 2004 10:18 AMDistillers rock. And yes, Brody is a chick. She's just a very buff, very scary chick. Too much woman for most men to handle. She's my idol. O.o Posted by: Tasha at February 24, 2004 03:29 PMHi Wil: I like the comment you put forth to your step son. The Kinks made a fabulous song, "Lola." This song hits squarely on the subject - in fact that entire album ("Lola Verses Powerman and The Moneygoround"), is great, he should hear that classic album, gil Posted by: gilbert at February 27, 2004 05:13 PMi know that this sounds kind of odd, but there is this thing on the internet that brody and tim are happy and having a baby? i dunno if they are great, but if not maybe tim and i could hook up, besides i think brody looks really cute with that new guy.
