missy aggravation some sacred questions

About a month ago, I announced that I'd be attending Creation's Grand Slam convention in Pasadena this weekend.

I just wanted to remind WWdN readers about the event, and give you some fun details:

  • I will have copies of Dancing Barefoot available to sign!

  • I will be there Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

  • On Saturday, I'll be doing a short (1 hour) performance of material from Dancing Barefoot and Just A Geek. If you're planning on attending, and there's a story you'd like to hear me read, leave it in the comments, and I'll see what I can do.

  • There's some sort of party thing on Saturday night. I'll be attending that, too.

  • I really do have other CDs that aren't The Pixies. That's got nothing to do with the convention, but I thought you may want to know.

  • My friend Kathleen and I met up in Old Town last night and totally made a punk rock, DIY-style 'zine out of our work at The Cult of the One Eyed Cat. We'll have them at the convention, too. We didn't make that many, though, so you should start lining up now, and then fight over them. That would be totally punk rock. \m/.

  • I have a few EarnestBorg9 T-shirts, and some OBEY WWDN shirts. I'll bring them, too.

It should be a good time. We're expecting rain this weekend, and there's nothing quite like the smell of wet Klingon costumes. I'm really looking forward to that, yo.

Thats sounds like it will be a fun convention. But living in seattle makes it difficult to come down to it. Will you ever be doing a signing or a convention in Seattle? Please let us know when and if the time comes.

And whatever you have heard, it does NOT RAIN everyday of the year. But if you heard the Seahawks suck ass, well that part is true.

Posted by: Terry at March 23, 2004 11:59 AM

Hey Wil, good luck. I just wish I lived closer so I could come down and get me some of that cool WWDN stuff myself, and help represent! Oh well, maybe someday I will make the trip from Chicago to see you.

I would email you, but I haven't quite acheived the level of geekness it takes to use all that fancy schmancy security stuff.

Posted by: Rob at March 23, 2004 12:08 PM

Wil,

You're just a lean, mean, writin' machine these days! I read your entries last night, gotup and here's another one from you... and I still haven't commented on the last two.

Wish I could make it to creation con, but it's way off on that other coast. Not that a weekend in LA wouldn't totally rock right about now... but I've got a script to finish and a pile of other work just waiting for me... so, give 'em hell at CC!

Re: the voiceover fun - I think it's cool when you can nail it so quickly for the producers.

It always feels like a huge leap of faith when a voice actor I've never used before stands in front of the microphone with the lines and starts in. If they're good, suddenly ALL is good... ;) and there are smiles on both sides of the glass.

So, revel in it. It looks and sounds like fun and I hope you rock with it!

Posted by: spacewriter at March 23, 2004 12:10 PM

Have fun, Wil! Too bad I live too many thousand miles away from Pasadena to attend. :^(

Posted by: clara at March 23, 2004 12:14 PM

wish i could come but it's way out of my way and price range. but....where can i get the borg t-shirt?

Posted by: Andrew at March 23, 2004 12:15 PM

Good Luck at the con this weekend.

BTW... there is no link to the OBEY t-shirts in the store off the main page.. how and where do we find them other than at the convention?.. because that is just a bit out of my reach for the weekend. heh.

Posted by: Neph at March 23, 2004 12:20 PM

Wil,

Sorry that I am not able to make it. Its sounds like a rockin time. I hope that you can come to Wisconsin one day, you will never want to leave. We are just too cool here in Dairy Land. You also have an open invetation to come and play some D&D with us. I promise I'll buy the Guinness, and that you'll love gaming with us.

Well have a good time this weekend, sorry I'll miss it.

Posted by: Artemis at March 23, 2004 12:26 PM

Sorry I won't make it this time but hope you save some good stuff for Vegas this summer.

Looking forward to hearing your talk! No preference for topic.

And just to double-post and be sure you know....those of us meeting at Lucky Baldwins at 7:00 on Saturday night would love to have you, and Anne if she's able, join us before you head over to the party for GOLD Patrons only....

Yes..Seattle, or better yet, Tacoma, or heck, I'd drive to Olympia to see ya :P

Silly Californians get all the good stuff :(

Posted by: Tasha at March 23, 2004 01:02 PM

Yes, do something in Seattle. It's only a 2.5 hour plane ride. I'll play hookie from work and everything. Seriously.

Posted by: Jeff D. a.k.a. Abyssleaper at March 23, 2004 01:06 PM

Add me to the (growing) list that would love to see you in Seattle!

FYI - don't know if you've checked FARK today, but you're featured in one of the Photoshop entries.

p.s. I yelled at him for you! :)

Posted by: Kirsten at March 23, 2004 01:20 PM

*nod* Seattle. You'll love it here...

Posted by: geoster at March 23, 2004 01:22 PM

I hope you have fun at the con, Wil -- I haven't been to a Creation event since it was 1994 and I stood in line forEVER to get Jonathan Frakes and Rene Auberjonois' autographs (and ran into a fellow geek from elementary school, randomly, that I hadn't seen in more than 2 years). Anyway, due to prior committments (stupid having to pay rent...) Disneyland Store Operations owns my soul for the weekend and I can't go. Now for teh part you might actually care to read about:

Are you doing Comic-Con this year?

Posted by: Sarah at March 23, 2004 01:27 PM

See? This is why you should do East Coast events! Everyone out west gets to have the fun geeking out with Uncle Willy, while we just read about it! Go east, young man! You'ld be more than welcome here...

Posted by: Eric at March 23, 2004 01:31 PM

*cough*cometoChicago*cough*

Sounds like fun...I'll be out there two weeks too late, but oh well.

Posted by: Winona at March 23, 2004 01:50 PM

Heh. I'm with Eric... the East Coast is where it's at...

Posted by: spacewriter at March 23, 2004 02:04 PM

Wil,

I'll come on Sunday afternoon. I have too much going on Friday and Saturday with prior obligations. I spoke to the Creation Entertainment people and mentioned to them that I was going only to see you, and to support your work, and asked them to make a note of that.

I fully intend to buy a copy of Dancing Barefoot while at the convention for you to autograph. I hope that Anne is able to come as well, I would love to meet her.

Thank you both, by the way, for doing the Walk in June. As I have mentioned before, it means a lot to me personally.

Warmest regards.

Posted by: Goddyss at March 23, 2004 02:07 PM

Hey Wil.
How about a con in Texas? Say the DALLAS area? You could even bill it as a compromise between East and West coast! Just a thought.

Posted by: Angela O at March 23, 2004 02:18 PM

Dude, I can't wait! Sci Fi cons are all the rage! I would rather shake hands with the likes of some washed up Babylon 5 cast member than get laid! I really mean it! But Wil, the truth is I'm really going in hopes of picking up some chicks. Will there be chicks at the convention? Will some Harry Knowles look-a-like like me hook up with some pig tailed, four eyed, arm pit stained,Xena t-shirt wearing gal? Hell, with my luck I might end up with someone who thinks she's that chick from Evanescence.
Great site, Wil. Hope you'll sign my Toy Soldiers poster at the con.

Posted by: Mark at March 23, 2004 02:27 PM

Wil, Do you think there is ANY chance you might go to Dragon Con in Atlanta, GA during laborday weekend? We have a group together that will be in attendance, and I personally would love to meet you - betting they all would as well. Please, please, please come?

-Heather

Posted by: Heather at March 23, 2004 02:32 PM

So, um, how come the con this weekend isn't listed on the Conventions page at WWDN? And if it's not listed, does that mean there are other cons you will be attending that aren't listed too?

Posted by: Debby at March 23, 2004 03:13 PM

Hey Wil! Even though you didn't get a big part in Nemesis you were still in it. The scene when Patric is talking to Jonathan and Marina "Will and Diana" at there wedding reception. Even though all they got was you laughing and smiling I was glad to see you even though I would much rather see you at the Helm of the Enterprise-E it was still great to see you. I didn't recognise you untill I was playing it in slow motion for some reason and there you were smiling away sitting next to your mom "Doctor Crusher" and I also seen your name in the credits. Soo just in case you never bothered to see the movie or didn't realize that you were in there and I thought I would let you know. Have a nice day Wil!

Posted by: Siggy at March 23, 2004 03:18 PM

Man, what I wouldn't give to be there this weekend! But since I got to see you last summer in Tulsa, and already have my very own signed copy of Dancing Barefoot, I'm not too disappointed. I hope everyone has a great time.

Posted by: Karen at March 23, 2004 03:20 PM

I've got a dumbass question for anybody who can help me out(I say dumbass because I think I'm the only ignorant moron here who doesn't know how to do this. Forgive me for wasting your time. Lol). How do I add WWDN as a link to my own blog at Xanga? I know this is preschool crap to the rest of you but give me a break, I'm still relatively new to this. :-)

Posted by: Alison at March 23, 2004 03:36 PM

I agree with Heather. If you came to Dragoncon in Atlanta this year I would be very happy.

Posted by: Kelli at March 23, 2004 04:09 PM

"there's nothing like the smell of wet Klingon costumes" Just the mental image makes me giggle. Of course the mental image also includes Jon Lovtiz, with vulcan ears, near tears... but hey that's just me.

Posted by: Fred at March 23, 2004 04:18 PM

hey wil,
have a great time at the Con this weekend. i hope it all goes well for you! i wish i could be there! *Come to the UK!!!*

take care

Posted by: rach at March 23, 2004 04:39 PM

Wil,

Sorry I won't be in Pasadena this weekend but it would really be nice if you would read "Houses in Motion" about your Aunt Val. And if you cry as you read it, go ahead and cry and we will all cry with you.

Your friend, Freeman :( .

Posted by: Freeman in Louisiana at March 23, 2004 04:53 PM

My dad and I will be at the convention cheering you on, Wil! I'm really looking forward to another of your readings. Would it be possible for you to read you "lying in odessa" entries or at least one part? That was a fantastic story. Oo, or the one about the time you were allowed to do the family fourth of July fireworks display. I always enjoy that one.

Posted by: Indy at March 23, 2004 05:06 PM

Wish I wasn't so far away. I would love to smell the wet Klingons too....

Sigh.

Yetzirah,
in a Galaxy far, far away. ;-)

Posted by: Deborah at March 23, 2004 06:30 PM

we all know you got that love for Rush... which means that really, you should come up to Canada... like Toronto. and worship Rush.... and sign some books too.

yup.

it's not too cold.

Posted by: dave at March 23, 2004 06:39 PM

I would be more than happy to crack some skulls in the line this weekend, but unfortunately, I'm in Oklahoma. You're gonna have to suck it up and come back some day, Wil...or at least go to Texas! :o) Good luck and have fun this weekend!

Posted by: Abby at March 23, 2004 06:52 PM

I've been wanting a copy of Dancing Barefoot for a while--getting one signed is quite a bonus.

Also, since I don't know what else to do with it, would you be interested in a piece of the original Route 66? You seemed to have enjoyed your trip.

Posted by: Brenden at March 23, 2004 06:53 PM

Are you ever coming to a book signing in Texas? Preferably Houston or Dallas?

Posted by: Piper at March 23, 2004 07:14 PM

I'll be at the Grand Slam this weekend--but will unfortunately miss you at the...what is it again, an ice cream social?...on Saturday night as I have tix to a concert with a friend coming in from out of town. Boo hoo to missing Unca Willie!

I will definitely be in the audience for your reading, though. Suggested selections... hmmm..."Lying in Odessa" was great, even if I didn't understand any of the poker terms. The one about your Aunt Val is marvelous, as is anything from "SpongeBob VegasPants." (Which would appropriate since WFS will be in the main hall not long after you finish.) Any of your Cult of the One-Eyed Cat work might be fun--I especially liked "I Choo Choo Choose You," although you may want to contemplate something else in case there are kids in the room...

I'm not helping narrow down the field, am I? Sorry, Wil. :`(

See you at the con!

Syd

Posted by: Syd at March 23, 2004 08:25 PM

WIsh I lived in California just to get to check out your personal appearances. Oh well. Maybe when you come out to the midwest I'll be able to bring along my copy of Dancing Barefoot for a super cool Wil Wheaton autograph!!!! Ah, sorry, fangirl moment there. Best of luck at the convention and way to go on the writing.

Posted by: Melissa McGuire at March 23, 2004 08:27 PM

I want to add my name to that list of people who want to see you in Seattle. Best of luck with the con this weekend!

Posted by: Chad at March 23, 2004 09:24 PM

I live in Minnesota. When the hell are you going to come to Minnesota so I can attend your book signing and finally get a copy of your books?
Come on, hurry it up, would ya? Sheesh!

Posted by: angry penguin at March 23, 2004 11:12 PM

I'm going to be there Sunday. And you'll be there Sunday too! That's is so awesome, as I was bummed I wouldn't get to go on Saturday. But all I saw on the Creation Site was that you were going to be there on Saturday. What are you doing on Sunday? Any signings? Or will you just be walking around and geeking out?

Posted by: stexgirl at March 23, 2004 11:26 PM

*Whimper*
No fair the US gets to hog all the Wheaton glory!
Just cos he lives there... its not fair I say! Come to the UK! We have rain and bad weather...*looks enticing* You know you want to....

Posted by: Pete (UK) at March 24, 2004 01:25 AM

Hi Wil
I'm with all the people who are begging you to come out to the east coast. I live in Central New Jersey, and would love for you to come out to my area. You can even stay at my house, LOL! :) Seriously, would you consider coming out this way? It would be fantastic! :) It would make a ST convention that much better. A booksigning at a local Barnes & Noble or something would be groovy, too.

Mark,
Good luck in your geek girl search. A guy once tried to pick me up at a Star Trek convention. When he first started talking to me, I noticed his wedding band. Later in the day, his ring disappeared - Coincidence? I think not. Needless to say, he did not get far with me! Just remember, geeks have a greater earning potential than all those muscle-bound boys who may or may not have a brain under that cool hair-do! So wear your pocket protector with pride.

Have a great time this weekend to all who are going. I live in Ohio and haven't been to a convention in more than 10 years. Someday I will get to go again and take all my geek kids to join in the fun!

Damnation! I've been to two Grand Slam conventions in the past (and I've got signed photos of Nana Visitor and Kate Mulgrew to prove it), but now that you're going to be at one, I'm all the way out in Denver and can't make it! (sob)

Well, I'll just have to convey my good wishes then, to both you and to all the WWdN monkeys that show up. Pasadena is nice this time of year. For the L.A. area, that is.

You'll have to excuse me, I shouldn't be allowed to leave comments when I have a migraine. Damn cute geeky married man being all cute!
