I can't tell in the photos, but are you wearing jams? That would really complete the ensemble. Wait, this was in the 90s, right? I guess that was too late for jams. It's only right to be wearing embarrassing clothes when you look back at photos from your youth, though. My own "wow-how-the-chicks-will-dig-me" shirt was an "Amateur Shark Hunter" shirt with a big, bloody hole torn out of the side. I thought it made me look edgy.

I was one of the "tools" who paid for a Trek cruise, in 2002, and I had a blast. (It was with Cruise Trek rather than SeaTrek.) All of the people, fans and Trek guests alike, were friendly, intelligent, and only a few degrees above the norm in geekiness. :-) I seem to recall Wil having said that he has enjoyed a couple of the Trek cruises he has done. Don't knock it till you've tried it.

I was left with a mental picture of the Simpson's Comic Book Guy out playing shuffleboard complaining that the cruise doesn't have jamaharon like they do on Risa.
I can't stop thinking of that Futurama with "iZac" the bartender...lol. No offense meant to actual cruise goers...seriously.

Ok, reading between the lines, here's a guess.

Given that it's the first book he's writing for them (Dancing Barefoot was already written when the contracts were signed), Uncle Willy has received an extension on JAG from his utterly-kick-ass editors at O'Reily. He's finishing out some stuff on the manuscript, which is why 1) he's suddenly researching autobiographical details and 2) despite a huge build-up about the deadline, he hasn't written the "boy I'm glad that's over" post about getting it in.

So...here's to sending our guy a little writing mojo to get things finished up for his second book. [zewewewewewewewewewewewew...laser sound effects here].

If i had had enough money at age 12, i certainly would have gone on SeaTek. I was one of the "I love Wesley" tools. Later, I became the (dare i say kinkier) "I love Data" tools.

Certainly, the 80s and early 90s are proud moments for no one, except perhaps Hasselhoff, who was and still is the greatest thing that ever happened to Germany.

I think I may still have the old Starlog magazine issue that covered that particular SeaTrek. I remember reading about Denise Crosby taking a bunch of people to see one of the Pet Sematary films. If that's the one, and I can find the issue, I'd be glad to send it to you. I'm going through the whole house this coming weekend to prepare for next weekend's garage sale, so if I find it, I'll set it aside. Let me know if you want it.
