« Research Help | Main | luck has left me standing so tall » April 06, 2004silver and goldMy brother just opened up his very first CafePress store! His current design is a parody of the 24Hr Fitness design, called 24Hr Fatness. I have one of his shirts, and let me tell you something, Curly, it gets quite a response from the ladies. I asked Jeremy to tell WWdN readers why he made the shirts, and here's what he had to say:
Am I buggin' you? I don't mean to bug ya... Okay Edge, play the blues... Hahaha! That's great! Posted by: Ana at April 6, 2004 07:07 PMOh, you silly Wheatons you... Tell Jeremy there are loads of other places to go if CP takes him down--I've researched 'em before and can get the info together quickly. Peace. R Posted by: Russ at April 6, 2004 07:09 PMHahaha! I love it! Yeah, those fitness guru's get a bit old. I always tell them 'yeah, I'm in shape...round is a shape.' Wheaton Bros. Unite! Posted by: Abby at April 6, 2004 07:12 PMI think I just found my new "workout shirt". I swear I'll wear this to my local 24 hour fitness every chance I get. Posted by: ucblockhead at April 6, 2004 07:15 PMHmm...is www.JeremyWheaton.Net available? ;) JWDN? That's tough to say... Most of the fitness "gurus" around here are really short and addicted to steroids... Posted by: WebNuT! at April 6, 2004 07:21 PMLOL...that is brilliant!...i hope it comes in XXXL. Posted by: d. burr at April 6, 2004 07:32 PMWell, if they don't sell, in the shithouse, a shotgun... Posted by: Monique at April 6, 2004 07:32 PMU2's the B-sides on their "best of" cd's are great. See: Three Sunrises & Bass Trap [an instrumental]. Wil, you and your brother should hit the local clubs, ala: The Bacon Brothers. 'cept you'll hit the Improv, Comedy Store, etc. vs. Coach House & Galaxy Theatre. Posted by: edwood at April 6, 2004 07:38 PMwife and I loooove anything monkey-related, so of course PArty Monkey and Drag Mokey sounds right up our alley. Posted by: bsti at April 6, 2004 07:39 PMSuper cute! :) But, what's up with the "wilsbrother" as the link name? Is he not his OWN man? I think you should call your's "jeremysbrother". ;-) Posted by: Tina at April 6, 2004 07:45 PMWhy doesn't the girls shirt come in an xxl ?!?! *pouts* Posted by: Carla at April 6, 2004 08:11 PMDarnit Wil, you didn't link us to Jenn's stuff! I want to see it! If I had money I would buy it too! But just because I'm broke doesnt mean there aren't other monkeys with money!! LINK ME BABY!! Posted by: angelgypsy at April 6, 2004 08:19 PMWil's not so little brother here... Thanks to all (12 of you so far) who have shown an interest in the shirts, monkey or otherwise. My wife has plenty of Monkey drawings that she will scan in and *VIOLA* shirts! I'll have my bro pimp them as much as he can when they are available. Please continue to look forward to silly shirts that I hope you like. -Jere... Ooops, Wil's Brother Posted by: Wil's Brother at April 6, 2004 08:24 PM*snickers* Hmm maybe I should buy one of those shirts and wear it by the 24 hr Fitness on Lake and Cordova. . . last time they were outside to sign people up they didn't take no for an answer and kept harassing me until I started to take a swing. Never watched a pudgy guy backpedal faster than I that guy did ;-) Hmm thanks for the link Wil! Posted by: astrobabe at April 6, 2004 08:25 PMHa ha!! The reason behind these shirts is true, some of them ARE in bad shape. And because I never received my free 24Hr Fitness shirt because I signed family up, I'm thinking of buying and wearing it to my 24Hr branch as a form of retribution. :) Additionally, this shirt reminds me of something "Spoofs LTD" would do -- they create spoofs of lots of things (mostly in Filipino terms since that's where the company's at). Watch out, they may use your idea... Posted by: Jenn (passerby, not wife) at April 6, 2004 08:36 PMJeremy, If you print a t-shirt with a picture of Wil on it, I'll buy it. I'll bet thousands of other Trekies would too. Freeman. Posted by: Freeman in Louisiana at April 6, 2004 08:38 PMThat's one of the greatest lines in Rattle & Hum, along with "It's a musical juuuurneey." Funny shirts by the way! Posted by: JDC in Orlando, FL at April 6, 2004 08:58 PMToo. F'in. Cool. If Wil's brother is reading this, I and my lard ass will happily model these shirts on my site in exchange for a freebie (whoring myself out to a celebrity's brother, I can't believe I'm sinking this low for free swag). Speaking of T's...anyone else catch Paul Scheer sporting a Borg9 tee on the most recent BWE? Posted by: Robert W. Leu at April 6, 2004 09:07 PManyone else catch Paul Scheer sporting a Borg9 tee on the most recent BWE? Really?! I met him at the Grand Slam con, and he has one of my Borg9 shirts . . . I didn't expect him to wear it on TV, though! That's WAY too F'n cool!! Anyone have a screencap? Posted by: wil at April 6, 2004 09:19 PMU2 Rules! :-D (But not as much as Wil. Which says a lot, since I've been in love with Bono since I was 12.) Posted by: Ally at April 6, 2004 09:24 PMThe shirts are fab, I may have to by one... it might motivate me to actually go to the gym to show it off. I love that his screen name is wilsbrother, that's so cute! I must say, way to go Mr. & Mrs. Wheaton, your sons rock! Posted by: Alice at April 6, 2004 09:25 PMI so have to get one of those shirts. Their Fantastic. Posted by: angry penguin at April 6, 2004 09:25 PMThat shirt is great but be careful! It looks a LOT like the real thing. You can have the big brutes of 24 Hour Fitness threatening copyright infringement. Posted by: Scott T at April 6, 2004 09:58 PMthat's one of my favorite edge solos. sadly the cd version is shorter than the one in the film. if guitars had orgasms, then that particular solo means edge's guitar needed a cigarette after the song. Posted by: dante at April 6, 2004 10:25 PMWhat will those silly wheaton boys think up next. Heres one for yah "STAR CRAP VI, THE FINAL CRAPPER". But he does appear on the Best of Best Week Ever show at 5pm E/2pm P this afternoon (along with your thoughts on Liquid Ice). Posted by: Robert W. Leu at April 7, 2004 12:11 PMWay to sneak in another stiller show reference! Idiot Troll. 198.146.206.74 djoed987@yahoo.com Hey Wil, your bro is as funny as you are! Oh, and the music geek in me loves the occasional song references here, in this case U2 from Rattle and Hum. "F*ck the revolution!" :-) Also, thanks for keeping the Iraq casualty totals on WWDN. With people losing their lives daily, it's probably easy for people to forget about it and accept it as the way of the world. We should never forget these people, and the countless Iraqi innocents who have also lost their lives in this mess, all dying needlessly thanks to lies told to justify a few people's need for greed and revenge. On second thought, maybe the revolution isn't such a bad idea... Posted by: Shaun at April 7, 2004 01:45 PMi didnt see him wearing a shirt, but i got a few screen caps of you wil, and a monkey riding a dog. http://img7.photobucket.com/albums/v21/juLesTiger1/ww.jpg http://img7.photobucket.com/albums/v21/juLesTiger1/ww2.jpg http://img7.photobucket.com/albums/v21/juLesTiger1/monkey.jpg forgive me for not linking them right on here. html is not my friend Posted by: julie reppert at April 7, 2004 03:03 PMwilsbrother? How cheap! What a cheap, cheap way of trying to sell yourself as someone close to someone famous! HAHAHAHA, I love it so much! I think I might go register wilsreader, wilsfan and wilsstalker and see what I can sell. Keep up the good work Jeremy, glad to see that the sense of humour didn't end with Wil. :) Posted by: Mitch at April 7, 2004 06:28 PMI'd be careful about resembling other products. My friend Vincent made a store at Cafepress selling Drama Queen t-shirts closely resembling the Dairy Queen logo. He got a cease and desist order from the home office of Dairy Queen, telling him to give them all profits plus penalties. He sent them a check for $14.99. Oh, and U2 rules! Posted by: Marshall at April 7, 2004 07:20 PMLove the U2 reference. Great quote from a great band!! Posted by: jth at April 8, 2004 10:08 AMSatire and parody are protected under the consitution's right to free speech. Hello? Ever heard of Garbage Pail Kids cards? What JW is doing is totally covered. Really cool idea for shirts. I hope you sell a ton. M Posted by: Mark Shields at April 8, 2004 12:48 PMHey, they only come in small, medium, and large. What about the X*L sizes? That's where the real fatness shows. Posted by: lozen at April 8, 2004 01:35 PMSatire and Parody are protections for copyright material, which is different from the applicable matter, trademark. I am not a lawyer, but I'd say that if 24 Hour Fitness gets wind of this, they've got a slam-dunk on their hands. Whatever it is, Hello? It's not totally covered, and you have an affirmative duty to defend your trademark or else you'll be powerless to defend it against later infringements. Furthermore, parody and satire are defense, not an excuse. Even if the law is on your side, you'll have to get a lawyer to explain that fact to the judge, so after lawyer fees and court costs, your profits are gone even if you win. Again, IANAL, but the standard probably has to do with whether someone's likely to confuse the 24 Hour Fatness with ibid. Fitness, and yeah, stealing the appearance of the logo will probably fit the bill. Posted by: LAN3 at April 8, 2004 02:50 PMre: The copyright infringement issue: that's why I got mine right away. I really do think that 24 Fitness will cause a stink over this and I wanted to get mine before they were unavailable. Good luck Jeremy! Posted by: Lawless1 at April 8, 2004 05:57 PM...I forgot to remind anyone that didn't know that Jeremy appeared in an episode of TNG ('When The Bough Breaks'), along with Wil's sister. Jeremy's character, Mason as I recall, was pretty backround (don't even think he had any lines) but Wil's sister played the girl with the crazy musical instrument. I'm impressed by Wil's power of persuassion to get them on the show! Posted by: jth at April 9, 2004 02:06 PMWil, Besides being a big nostalgic TNG fan, I'm also a huge U2 fan and I run the Larry Mullen, Jnr. Online Fanlisting [http://www.stardust-dream.com/larry] off of my domain. It's great to see that you love U2. I love when Bono says that... "Didn't mean to BUG YA!" Love + Peace + Admiration, luv jackie v. P.S. Ever think about coming to speak at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY? We've had everybody from President Bill Clinton to Bruce Campbell at my school! We'd love you there! Posted by: Jackie V. at April 9, 2004 04:10 PMKy favorite U2 reference! I loves the Wheaton Boys! Posted by: Natalie at April 9, 2004 06:41 PMHas the site been taken down already? "24hr fatness" appears to be there under wilsbrother, but there's no content at all in the store. Posted by: secret asIAN man at April 10, 2004 10:25 PMHey - maybe it could be WWJWD.net? (What Will Jeremy Wheaton Do)? Posted by: Tim at April 11, 2004 06:52 PMWell, as I had expected, but hoped not to have happen, cafepress is putting my 24hr fatness shirt under scrutiny. Sooooo, I have modified the shirt and added another one. You can get to both of them here (http://www.jeremywheaton.com/store.htm) if you like. I will be putting more designs up shortly and please let Wil or me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks! -Jeremy I really love your Cafepress store... Posted by: Cabaret Theatre at April 11, 2004 09:17 PMMy shirt shipped on the 8th!! *does a happy little fat dance* Glad to see the shirts are still available.
