« i palindrome i | Main | another brick in the wall part II » April 19, 2004think blueMy Los Angeles Dodgers currently have the best record in baseball. And I'm not talking about some worthless half-game lead over the jints . . . oh no. They're 9 and 3, baby. \m/ Comments
Go Blue! Posted by: Miguel Medina at April 19, 2004 11:27 PMYeah, but a dozen games in April doesn't get you the pennant. That's what's keeping me from hating my Phillies. That and the new ballpark. Posted by: Joe Coughlin at April 19, 2004 11:34 PMGo Cubs!!! :) Posted by: uniball1 at April 19, 2004 11:36 PMSure, Wil. And the Baltimore Orioles are leading the AL East. Something tells me things'll change ; ) (Still, who am I to rain on your parade?) Posted by: Curtis Harding at April 19, 2004 11:41 PMI second that. Go Cubs. Posted by: Doug at April 19, 2004 11:42 PMGo Dodgers! :D (yeah, it's only April--but hey, you and I will just ride this wave for as long as we can. :D) Posted by: Camille at April 19, 2004 11:45 PMGo Dodgers! :D (yeah, it's only April--but hey, you and I will just ride this wave for as long as we can. :D) Posted by: Camille at April 19, 2004 11:45 PMWow, all they have to do is coast through these next 149 games and they'll be in good shape! Posted by: Dal at April 19, 2004 11:47 PMYeah? Well my Mets are... hrm. 6-7, last place in the NL East. At least it's familiar territory. Posted by: alan at April 19, 2004 11:59 PMMaybe THFC should take-up Baseball Posted by: Griff at April 20, 2004 12:19 AMI third that, GO CUBS!!! Posted by: Nick W at April 20, 2004 12:59 AMfourth it. go cubs Posted by: hoggle at April 20, 2004 01:00 AMHey, as long as the Phillies stomp the Orioles in the upcoming July inter-league series at the new Phillies stadium, I will allow the Dodgers to do whatever the hell they want. Funny how year after year we stomp the Orioles, but it just never changes the outcome of the '83 World Series. But it still feels good, like bacon tastes good! GO PHILLIES! Posted by: spunkyknight at April 20, 2004 01:15 AMI don't mean to put anyone down but lately I haven't seen alot of entries lately from wil. I know he's busy and all. I just miss his long thoughtful entries and this thing about baseball came up short.Sorry that's just how I feel and I still love this web site and read his blog a day before work. Posted by: lisa at April 20, 2004 02:57 AMhanks pilcht for your explanation, thank you very much. Posted by: natalia at April 20, 2004 03:05 AMI hear ya. My Phillies had a horrible start at 1-6 but now are on a winning streak and are almost back at .500. My AL team, the Orioles, are the best in the East. Take that you evil Yankee fans. Posted by: Jason at April 20, 2004 04:42 AMBaseball? That's some kind of sport isn't it? Popular in places like... Japan? Thought so. :-) Posted by: Urban at April 20, 2004 05:14 AMI am a texan that fifth that... GO CUBS! Astros suck, and so do the Gaygers(Rangers). Posted by: PJ Gonzales at April 20, 2004 05:15 AMi don't even dare look at how my Blue Boys (blue jays) are doing... ug -- 3 wins 9 losses... pathetic pathetic pathetic... Posted by: maria at April 20, 2004 05:40 AMThree words... Go, Jays! Posted by: Robert at April 20, 2004 06:27 AMHAH! My Phillies will beat them in a few weeks! I cannot wait to go, am flying over from Australia for E3, so will probably see the Dodgers whilst in LA, but I am also flying to Philly, to see the Phils kill the Dodgers :D Posted by: Kate at April 20, 2004 06:29 AMbaseball....that game thing.....yes Posted by: pilch at April 20, 2004 06:29 AMwhooo! It's about friggin time they started living up to their legacy. Posted by: Jeremy at April 20, 2004 06:30 AMJust remember blue crew - 67% of your losses have come because of the Padres, while only 44% of your wins have come against them. Those are telling statistics. Yep. /I got nothin' Nah, gotta give props to the Dodgers. Let's talk in August, when they start to perform as usual. Posted by: David at April 20, 2004 06:44 AMGO CUBS!! 'Nuff said. Posted by: Mike D USMC at April 20, 2004 07:03 AMMy Astros are 9-4, but they'll be at .500 by the end of the season. Posted by: marcus at April 20, 2004 07:08 AMI'm a big closet Dodgers fan too... Posted by: TwoPeanuts.com at April 20, 2004 07:18 AMWhat's your point, Wil? (from an already-disappointed Cards fan) And the Astros will not be at .500 by the end of the season; they may very well win the NL Central! With a winning percentage of .550 or something, probably. Posted by: John at April 20, 2004 07:23 AMWell the Red Sox are .5 games out of first place in the AL-East and just finished a series with the Yankees 3-1. Oh yeah and A-Rod just went 1 for 17 in that series. You don't want to know how much money that is for that 1 hit. My baseball life is currrently all good. Oh yeah! Posted by: -di. at April 20, 2004 07:49 AM Happy Holiday, everyone. If you don't know what holiday it is, then never mind. There is nothing to see here. Move along... Posted by: Mike Bailey at April 20, 2004 07:54 AMHey, I'm under no false impressions about the season . . . but I'm also a longtime Cubs fan, so I have to enjoy these things when I can. Posted by: wil at April 20, 2004 08:05 AMGo D'Backs! (Hey, I gotta "represent", as the kids put it these days!) Posted by: Wolf at April 20, 2004 08:08 AMThe Dodgers rock, and I love them through grest seasons and bad seasons!!! Go Dodgers.... Posted by: Artemis at April 20, 2004 08:43 AMGo Sox! If we can beat the Yankees this early in the season we can break the curse! Posted by: sassy at April 20, 2004 08:47 AMEighthing (or whatever) the GO CUBS! As for the Dodgers...yay? They're not in the Central, so I don't much care. :) Posted by: Carrie at April 20, 2004 08:48 AMI love that the Dodgers swept the Giants in SF. I am turning Dodger Blue holding my breath that they might have a good season this year. Go Dodgers!!
GO WHITE SOX!!! Haha. I bet that's real popular :) Posted by: Jeremy at April 20, 2004 09:30 AMafter only 12 games you're bragging? sheesh, past three years or so the A's sucked for half the season only to come back at the end and make it to the playoffs, at which point they decide to suck again and lose... Posted by: StarkRG at April 20, 2004 09:32 AMThe Dodgers suck and will come no where near winning it all Posted by: gambit at April 20, 2004 09:42 AMYou may be 9-3 now, but we will be the ones winning the NL West. By then I will have 95 homers for the season. just heard the Wilblog on "That Guy"....veddy jolly and with the passion thing.... Posted by: pilch at April 20, 2004 10:35 AMGo Expos :) I'm sure they'll win something eventually if our stadium doesn't collapse all over them. (Headline: Montreal first team to win by default as visitors taken out by falling chinks of concrete) Also: Go Habs! Go Avs! And Go Impact! Posted by: Em at April 20, 2004 10:38 AMWell, sooner or later the Dodgers will run into a team with more than one hitter and more than two decent starters, and then they'll come back to earth. It's going to be a few more years before they can put together a decent offense again. Especially in the middle infield. On the bright side, no one in the NL looks like a true powerhouse this year. Though Florida seems like the best bet to stay on a roll. Posted by: Michael Rawdon at April 20, 2004 10:51 AMwho cares if it's only 2 weeks into the season? when your team's doing well you can't help but want to jump around, throw the goat and scream happy happy things. Yes Wil, but your Kings took a good playoff run and dropped it into the toilet, goin 0-11 in the end to a sub .500 record. Hopefully the Dodgers won't fall so hard. Go Kings (Whenever hockey is played again) Posted by: J Man at April 20, 2004 12:50 PMProps to your Dodgers, Wil. I take it Todd Hundley's still nursing injuries all the way to the bank? No way LA could be playing so well if that dead weight were in the lineup. Dumping him was the best move the Cubs ever made, even better than picking up Aramis Ramirez at the hot corner. He's en fuego bay-bee!!! Sorry for mixing my sports metaphors. I'm just concerned that the Cubs will once again well... Be The Cubs. One day everyone's hitting the daylights out of the ball, the next day no one can get the ball out of the infield. One day the starting pitching's strong and the bullpen stingy, the next day it's like a dam bursting open. Greg Maddux sure hasn't made up for losing Mark Prior early on. I'm don't believe in jinxes, but someone forgot to tell these guys they're supposed to win the pennant this year. I think you need to lead the 7th inning stretch at Wrigley this summer, Wil. You're on a roll lately. Spread the love and good vibes, man... Posted by: Shaun at April 20, 2004 01:20 PMAs a die-hard Anaheim Angels fan whose team is playing in the tougher of the two western divisions (designated hitter or not) I will admit that the Dodgers are doing surprisingly well. Is it the fact that your bats have finally shown up, or the the fact that they play William Hung in the clubhouse? But at least we swept you at the beginning of the month in the Freeway Series, and we will do the same later this season. Good luck for the rest of the season. I do have La Duca and Gange on my fantasy team. Peace... I made a cheap dinner bet at my fantasy draft on March 28th that the Dodgers would win at least 75 games this season... the guy was willing to offer me 65 games... I took the 75. Of course, I thought this was a stupid, "homer" bet, in reality... but, it is nice to see the Dodgers looking so good this early. /"I'll have a double double, animal-style, please" Posted by: baseballgeek at April 20, 2004 01:52 PMGo Tulsa Drillers...er, sorry, I don't have a MLB team. =^/ Posted by: thePegan at April 20, 2004 02:03 PMFREE OF THE FOX MENACE: the dodgers return...i'm still excited about the prospects for the CARDINALS...once they figure out who can pitch and who can't. Posted by: d. burr at April 20, 2004 03:25 PMHmm... Sure the Dodgers are leading their divison, but have they played a team that's currently above .500? GO DODGERS!!!!!! Colorado doesn't stand a chance!! (Just like all of the other teams!) Posted by: Antone at April 20, 2004 06:12 PMTo all the go CUB fans, looks like the REDS handled them pretty well, both at home and away! Wil - I do miss those 70's and 80's series when the Reds played Dodgers more than they play them now. For me, those two teams playing brings alot of nice memories of baseball and childhood past. Posted by: Brian Brelsford at April 20, 2004 06:52 PMLet's go GIANTS, let's go. BEAT LA BEAT LA Posted by: Sue at April 20, 2004 07:51 PMI just found your site. And I have to comment on this post. My husband, Eric, is a HUGE Dodgers fan. Has been since the Albuquerque Dukes were their number one farm team and he knew most of them. Anyway... We have 9 month old twins, and he's decided the thing that is MOST important to teach them is to hate the HATED GIANTS. I keep trying to tell him that teaching our kids to hate is in no-one's best interest. He assures me that in this case, it's a moral imparative. Posted by: Rikka at April 20, 2004 08:16 PMThe Dodgers are heartbreakers...it doesn't seem to matter how well they do in the first half of the season, they always seem to go to hell after the All-Star break... Still...maybe this year will be different... GO BLUE!!! Posted by: Syd at April 20, 2004 09:51 PMYeah....just you wait until your Dodgers play my Reds. If Jimmy Haynes is pitching you'll be TEN and three! Posted by: The Sasquatch at April 21, 2004 02:14 AMWell, the Rockies took one from the Dodgers last night out at 20th and Blake in LoDo, 7-1...but tonight, the Dodgers appear to be returning the favor (they're up 9-4 in the 7th). To quote a phrase, guess that's what they mean by "can't win 'em all." :-) Posted by: Erbo at April 21, 2004 08:35 PMThe Salt Lake Stingers are 11 - 2 and currently lead the PCL. THE DODGERS!!!!!!! Ooh Yeah they're 10 and 4, The Marlins are 10-4, too, y'know... Posted by: Naomi Hall at April 22, 2004 11:59 AMYou really didn't just try to compare the Marlins I still think of 'em as Brooklyn. I love 60 degree weather in Texas because it gives me a chance to wear my Brooklyn Dodger jacket. Believe it or not, I am in my 30s not born in the 1930s.
