for those of you with dish network, tech tv is on channel 191 (in L.A.) and according to my guide, the screen savers airs again at 5am and call for help at 6am (cali time)

so its been like somwhere around a decade since the ST:TNG heyday, right? i watched alot of that back in the day and i wanted to be wesley. wesley was the closest thing to me, but a better one, and one to look up to.

i haven't really heard anything about you since, until a few weeks ago a buddy said to check your site out. then i saw you were gonna be on TSS, so i found the encode on the usenet and watched it and you are exactly who i thought wesley would be now.

congrats on making something of yourself. i'm right behind you.

About the red shirt? Only someone in TV would notice that. Most of us have no idea how much of a tan you really don't have.

And, yeah, you started getting dangerously close to being beeped, but you didn't go past "damn", so most of us would think you were OK. Of course, those who were upset with Janet Jackson..........

I think anyone who would have been THINKING would have said something like Mozilla as their fave open source project. ;-) It always makes me smile when Microsoft gets all upset at someone ELSE giving something away for free.

I didn't notice the winter pale or the Guinness pounds. What I saw was a guy who is honest, humble, kind and generous. A guy who deserves every bit of the success that is on it's way. Wil, you make it easy to be a fan.

Thought you did a great job as always. It's always a pleasure to see you on SS and I look forward to seeing CFH. You should cohost SS again in the future. You have a "real" quality I think your fans appreciate. I remember you hosting a few episodes of Arena on G4, what happened with that? You were way more interesting than the tools that host it now.

Hate missing all the TV you do, as I imagine all of us do who live outside the US, but the way you write makes up for it.

Well, I didn't set out to be a fan, that's for sure. A few female friends of mine have been reading WWDN for ages, and I was worried that it was a residual teen-girl-crush-obsession thing and wouldn't be my speed.

I happened to check the site when Wil posted an excerpt from Just a Geek, and that was it.

One of the things that Wil has been talking about is the recognition that he has been getting recently is coming from readers of WWDN and not Star Trek fans. I'm here to echo that sentiment.

As of a few weeks ago, I am now a fan. Not of Wil-as-celebrity, but of Wil as blogger / writer / pundit / open source evangelist. The fact that he has some awesome material to write about is just icing on the cake.

The appearance tonight was great, Wil. It was funny, fast, and coherent - far more than most interviewees manage on talk shows! The "can't pick just one" dilemma was a great way to buy time to think, and you did narrow it down nicely by the end.

Well done - I look forward to Call for Help.

As an aside, nice nod to old school Ataris. I was just listening to that album and reminiscing.

For those that don't happen to know the quote - "Today was a Good Day, Didn't even have to use my AK" is from The Ataris' "Up up down down left right left right"

Saw ya on TechTV today (TSS)- what a fun segment! First time for me - seeing you on the screen in anything but Stand By Me or Star Trek, heh! You did a great job - stop stressing over how you look - whatever body image issues you have right now should dissolve once you start training up for that nice long walk. :)

Hey, just watched the interview off my DVR a little bit ago, great interview man. You're right, 6 minutes is an eternity on TV, but you filled it very well and kept the pace flowing. I'm really glad they didn't rush it into 5 quick questions, it was the best part of today's show.

Red shirt looked fine, believe me they wear a lot worse from time to time. The "CFH said it wasn't 'safe'" bit made it worthwhile at any rate. Open Source you answered as best as anyone could. It was an unfair question, Pat seemed to realize that right after he said it. I'd rather have an honest answer than a memorized list.

Thanks for doing the interview with TSS, it was honestly very entertaining. Maybe next time you can get them to let ya field some live calls. :)

Never forget your fake tan! My favorite now is the spray on tan you can walk in anywhere and get now. They just spray it on you in a booth. Looks fabulous. A little powder to reduce shine and men are done. You know how washed out you'll look on TV, so don't forget your fake tan! :) La Mer makes a great over the counter one as does Bare Escentuals (both in the tube.)

Please PLEASE don't put the fake bronzer just on the face and forget the neck and arms. Yes, tv anchors can get away with this, but they look like idiots and we all point and laugh at them.

Two good colors I like on men: Turquoise blue (stop rolling your eyes,) and teal green. They just pop on everyone (even women.) Stay away from white, red, baby pink and black (if you're a brunette. Unless you're John Travolta and really, he can get away with anything, sorry Wil.)

Don't forget to grease the teeth and duct tape the buns and smile... ;)

And you looked and sounded great btw. I enjoyed it! No one noticed anything you went out of your way to point out here, so stop that!

Quick thought Re: "Today was a good day ..." - I'd swear Ice Cube originated the quote the Ataris used. But I'd take Ataris' song as an acceptable answer if I was judging a lightning round of "Stump the Geek", especially due to the console references. :D

And Wil, you should worry less about how you look man. Hit the beach for a day with the family if you're that concerned. Exercise _and_ sunlight.

You went in and did the show, and it was an interesting and informative interview. And you had a good time, right? 'Nuff said.

BTW, your sincerity really showed when you thanked Patrick Norton for considering you "a friend of the show". I think he appreciated it.

I think that the shirt was a good idea it was funny & as a person hearing about you for the first time i think that your appearence on the show was good. it was not to layed back, yet not to professional you looked and acted comfortable.

at least you didn't get your heart broken anyway...

Overall? Very happy with the show I did today, and also very happy with the Call For Helps that I did (on Friday and Monday). Yeah, it was a good day. I didn't even have to use my AK.

Well will as a hefty guy myself(just lost 30 lbs YEAH) I will say you didn't look bad at all. Patricks a really cool but pretty hefty guy so it helped to "cloak" those guinness muscles! any how thought the review was cool and not fan-boyish at all!

This is the last thing I expected to hear from you after watching your interview last night. I mean, you looked fine. I don't think they would have let you on tv if you looked at bad as you think you did. We are all our own worst critics though.

Yeah, your doble chin was there, and yeah, you had the mark of a serious Guinness drinker (by the way, loved your beer-drinking scene in The Core), but you didn't look washed out, and your hair was fine. A little messy goes great with your levis. You came off as relaxed, natural and witty. Personal interviews are becoming more and more a part of your element. Rock on!

I am glad that you shared your insecurities about your appearance. I know how it feels to think you are looking relatively good and then you see yourself and it doesn't fit the mental picture. Sometimes it takes a while for me to adjust to the gap there. It is nice to see that someone who I think is very cute/attractive feels critical of himself, too. Once again, your Human-ness is revealed and comforts others.

I loved the interview on The Screen Savers last night for it's frankness.
Don't sweat about the hair and the profile, that's hollywood garbage that I didn't even notice.
I was too busy listening to what you had to say that was interesting and honest. Don't get too wound up with image, we all get older and I'm sure you'd be happy to get out of the kid mold anyway.

I thought the interview looked great. I bumped into it almost by accident last night, and was delighted to see you there! I'd never seen an interview with you before, and you seemed relaxed and happy. Friendly, like someone I'd really like to meet.

Great interview on TSS Wil. After reading your pre-show entry about the weight gain, I was expecting to see Barney Gumbel, but you're being way too self-conscious. By the way, I think it's hilarious that you said "dick" on live tv. It showed that it was a real conversation, not a prepared bs interview. I hope the FCC finds it equally hilarious for TechTv's sake.

Hey, just wanted to come by and drop a little more love on the pile. I'm a big fan of CfH and TSS, and it was easy to tell everyone on the show was getting a good vibe from you. You came across as a great sort of "neighbor who knows the computer" guy -- real, a little goofy, friendly, and not a sign of double chin or beer belly (Roger's shirt looks good on ya!)

There's not much I can say that won't sound unbelieveably repetitive, trite, or even a little fawning, but I'm gonna say it anyway -- wow, I like you better now than I did 10 years ago. I keep liking you better every time I see you or hear about you doing something. I wish you'd do one of the larger Southeastern cons just so I could pony up my $20 for an autographed picture and 60 seconds of rabid fangirlism, because, even in my supposedly dignified middle years, I'd completely do it. Even if I felt like an idiot after and you filed me mentally in the ranks of uber-idiot, it would be worth it.
