« roy g. biv | Main | The Bear » April 29, 2004beautiful dayOH MY GOD! I just got off the phone with Anne. Kris got the results of her biopsy just now . . . and IT CAME BACK CANCER-FREE!! The chemo and radiation have done their thing, and she's safe for at least two years! I feel like I'm going to cry. I saw Kris this morning at Anne's salon, and I thought she looked healthier and better than I expected. We talked about the support WWdN readers have given her, and how much your love, prayers, mojo, tantric healing waves, and crazy voodoo monkey magic have helped her at this time. You guys . . . I just don't know how to express how joyous and grateful I feel right now. Anne will write more details later on. Cancer runs on both sides of my family: one uncle and both of my grandfathers have died from cancer and cancer-related complications. My aunt is fighting it now, and one of my cousins fought and won against Leukemia. It's always a relief when someone pulls through. Aside: I saw a commercial last night. W. F. Shatner was being sacked as the spokesperson for Direct something or other (don't remember the product, sorry...) They had found someone better suited to them, and I thought "Oh God, please let it be Wil Wheaton." It was Mr. Nemoy. But it would have been funny if it HAD been you! Anyway. Enough on the tangent... Posted by: Matt at April 30, 2004 10:27 AMThank you, thank you for posting that and keeping us in touch. Thank you God for bringing Kris through this, and all the doctors for doing so well with her. This is just what I needed today, a little hope for the cancer world. I just found out last night that we're going to lose my uncle to cancer in a few months. They're not even going to try treatment, he's so far gone. When I was 8, I lost one of my best friends to leukemia, and I decided then that when I was grown up and had a real job, the Canadian Cancer Society was going to be my charity of choice. Even then, I gave $5 or $10 each year to the fundraiser run my school did in his memory. (For a 10-year-old in the 80s, that was a lot!) Since then, my aunt, grandfather, and another friend have all joined the "survivors" group. (The friend still has one more hurdle until he can be declared cancer-free, but he's been doing amazingly well.) Each time you posted an update on Kris, I held my breath. I was SO glad to see this morning that she's been declared cancer-free. Congratulations to her, and good for you, Wil and Anne, for all fund-raising you're doing for the cause. We need to get rid of this disease for once and for all. Posted by: Julie at April 30, 2004 10:34 AMWhoa, I'm waaaaaaaaaaay down on this list... oh well... ROCK ON KRIS! It renews my faith in humanity and higher powers and the power of positive thinking! Happy wishes and ever more ubermojo to Kris and all her family, and to you, Wil and Anne, and your family. Posted by: Dooey at May 1, 2004 06:20 PMWoo Hoo! GREAT Kris,, my Mom also went through chemo & RAD, she is a 2 years survivor of breast cancer. So our prayers are with you to .. Posted by: danman at May 1, 2004 10:24 PMAs a survivor of Hodgekin's disease (9 years - yay me!!), I have an idea of what Kris was going through. Having friends and family beside you, supporting you the way you and Anne supported her, is essential to one's recovery. They are constant reminders of why one has to keep fighting. From all the survivors around the country - thank you for bringing attention to this organization and for all the work you and Anne have done. CONGRATS KRIS!!! May you never have to go through another day of chemotherapy again! Posted by: Jen at May 1, 2004 10:36 PMThat's such amazing news. I was having such a good day and I didn't think it could get better, but... Lo and behold! I was wrong. I'll keep sending good mojo Kris's way, in hopes of a continued clean bill of health. Thanks for passing the news on, Wil. :) Much love to all. Posted by: Suzanne at May 1, 2004 10:37 PMThis is great news! Posted by: JediJaina at May 1, 2004 10:39 PMKick... ass! Praise the Lord for modern medicine. Posted by: Michelle at May 3, 2004 09:42 AMThat's great news! Hurrayyyy! Will, I found your site totally by accident. Briefly, I have my blog on Live Journal and the URL is above. It's interesting ;) Anyway, I'm not a crazed fan. I hate Star Trek, but will always love SBM. HOWEVER, when I was a budding girl, you were one of the ONLY boys on my wall. As I am a lesbian, you should be proud!! Anyway, I too am a fan of Homestar Runner and Think Geek so I thought, "Hell, I'll check his blog out." Here I am then. And again, hurray for cancer free! Posted by: Sara (cerebralcrunch) at May 3, 2004 10:53 AMthis is so weird. i just found this site, i was like, OOH! will wheaton! and i also just finished chemo + radiation. so, congrats! i know the feeling. Posted by: meredith at May 3, 2004 11:48 AMThat is great news! Freeman :) Wil, sending lots of > to the Bear, from me and my two kits, Bernadette and Wallace. The love of a kitty is a precious thing and I'm sure that your positive outlook is helping tremendously. Hang in there. Posted by: Laura at May 3, 2004 08:16 PMAfter going through chemo and radiation myself (I had Hodking's Disease three years ago), I know for a fact that this kind of news is the better there is! Congratulations Kris! Thank God we, survivors, are no longer de minority! - Paulinhakz SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEETNEEEESSSSSSS!!!! BIG YAY AND HOORAY FOR KRIS!!! I know Im late responding to all of this stuff.. My son was in the hospital for 4 days (thurs-monday).. So I had some catching up to do. But that is wonderful to hear. I lost a friend last august to advanced t-cell leukemia. It hit him hard and fast and he was gone within 2 months after the diagnosis. So I am very happy to hear that your friend is beating the boots off that nasty disease!! Keep it up Kris!! We are all pulling for you!! ~*~Lotus~*~ Posted by: Lotus at May 4, 2004 06:55 PMWil - I enjoy reading your posts, but when you say: "...how much your love, prayers, mojo, tantric healing waves, and crazy voodoo monkey magic have helped her at this time" don't you see the lack of intellectual integrity? I'm so glad Kris' cancer is gone, but do you really think my "mojo," etc. had anything to do with it? do you really think that's how the universe operates. I'm expecting far more logical, realistic thinking from you. --steve Posted by: Steve at May 5, 2004 02:24 PMNo sabes como me alegro!!! I am glad much, without a doubt... Its beautiful day.
