« big beautiful | Main | the hollywood home game » June 24, 2004The Quintessential AristocratMy friend Martin, who is in my gaming group, wrote a PDF for Mongoose called "The Quintessential Aristocrat," and it was just published this week. I think a few gamers read WWdN, and they may want to take a look at it. Martin's an incredibly creative guy (sadly, our characters don't know each other in this campaign, yet, so we're reduced to giving each other shit out of character the entire play session, mostly centered around Martin's always fabulous choice of footwear) and it's worth a look, if you're into playing Aristocrats, or just making your buddies think you are one. *sniff* Cheers. (Uhm. Yeah. Looks like I need to read it, too.) Completely off topic... but congrats on the invite to the WPT Hollywood Home Game!!!! My money is riding on you! Posted by: CJ at June 24, 2004 09:55 AM1st post! Thanks for putting comments back. Too bad I'm not much of a gamer...it's over my head. Posted by: =^) at June 24, 2004 09:56 AMDarn...its was 2nd post. Posted by: =^) at June 24, 2004 09:56 AMLast time I played an aristocratic type character in D&D after thirty minutes of gameplay (in which my character whined about everything that wasn't good enough for him) my "friends" took my character down to the swamp, cut off his big toes and threw him in. Funny, they always like it when I played a Kender type character though. And, =^), if you play with the right group of people, gaming is never over your head. Give it a shot, it's fun. Posted by: ticknart at June 24, 2004 10:06 AMCool! My daughter is a major gamer! I'll tell her to check it out when she gets back from her Computer Simulation Contest at LSU! Posted by: Sue at June 24, 2004 10:25 AMOn a related topic... > Y'know, I'm suddenly overwhelmed by the desire to see Wil Wheaton No, Besters protigee psicop. I'll have to point out your friend's suppliment to my d20 crazy friend, I'm a GURPS man myself. I'll forgive you for ditching a D&D game.. but a GURPS game... that's another story. ;) You're endangering your status as a member of the League of Gentlegamers. Posted by: biomekanic at June 24, 2004 10:33 AMCool! My nephews are probably already there! Posted by: Geoff at June 24, 2004 10:39 AMI wish my friends or family were gamers. They all think I am a big nerd for being one. I can't wait until my son is old enough to learn how to play. Posted by: Veronica at June 24, 2004 10:50 AMEr...forgive my ignorance, but what's "Mongoose"? Posted by: Craig Steffen at June 24, 2004 11:02 AMFinally, comments are back! In regards to your entry about KoTR2 - Han does shoot first. I'd prefer the term "geek" over "nerd". :) Hey, first time commenter, long time gamer! So, I used to be a gamer. I grew up playing AD&D, since its creation... Also off-topic: But SUPER CONGRATS on the WPT Hollywood Home Game - and I know you'll be a gentleman -- didja see Daniel Baldwin acting completely wacko the other night??? LORD I was so glad when Ming-Na took him out of our collective misery. Anyway, have fun, play well and enojy the time to be a WPT man! Awesome! Posted by: Beejmartin at June 24, 2004 01:03 PMCharyb- do it! my little pc does not have a ton of stuff in it, either- but there are some great games available for the home consoles. gosh darn it, wil...more crap for my husbands to spend money on (or maybe i will beat them to it ;) ) seriously, this is cool. the guys i game with prefer d&d 3rd ed or savage worlds (even i can understand savage worlds) i'm glad you can stay home with anne and the kids sometimes rather than gaming (but gaming is good, too...maybe you can get the boys into gaming) as far as computer gaming...neversummer 4 (free, on-line multi-player is good d&d type gaming, but tc and sean have gotten hooked on city of heroes... i am rambling, so .... but it's good to see that you are feeling better and that comments are back. *hug* Posted by: kitten trumpinski-roberts at June 24, 2004 02:11 PMWorking in the industry is a dream come true for many of us. I'm glad your friend Martin was able to join the ranks. :) Take care.. Oh, and will you be going to SDCC this year? Posted by: Julie at June 24, 2004 04:08 PMWil, Thanks so much for allowing comments again. I had just got comfortable sending you daily emails. Good luck with all your irons in the fire. Wil, FG Posted by: Fabian at June 24, 2004 06:37 PMTsk, tsk, Biomekanic. . . telling tales out of school like that. You could've asked the poster of that thread if he'd mind reposting that snippet here. Mostly, though, he'd be pissed off that he didn't have a chance to post it here first. He'd also probably refer to himself with a third-person pronoun in his comment here. . . . Seriously, though: I'd love to see you, Wil, in a B5 project. Two great tastes, &c. I read this post four or five times over the day before I finally got the *sniff* Cheers thing. I'm slow, I know. Anyway, it took my daughter reading it out loud over my shoulder for me to figure it out... she did it perfectly, and she's only 7! Anyway, now this post cracks me up. Go aristocrats! Eric in Orygun Posted by: Eric Grey at June 24, 2004 10:42 PMHmm... sounds interesting. I will have to check out a preview on a gaming site. I am definately interested in buying. Equipment lists and prestege classes would be neat if they are amde for aristocrats. Any sneak peaks you could share Wil? By the way, I liked your article in KODT... any more on the way? Nevermind the losers who disparage your new article in Dungeon, I look forward to it as a subscriber and did you know Monte Cook, the creator of 3edition links your site to his? Posted by: Chris W at June 24, 2004 11:00 PMHey Wil, Best wishes. Posted by: Carl Anderson at June 25, 2004 01:58 AMI am finishing up reading Dancing Barefoot. I just had to comment to you on We Close Our Eyes. I wanted to thank you for sharing that with your readers. You can feel the love and passion between you and Anne. It helped me remember why I love my partner so much. Thank you, Sarah Posted by: Sarah at June 25, 2004 06:46 AMis this "comment" thing just new, right? I just noticed it today. hmmm or I just got busy of noticing it. well, as for "The Quintessential Aristocrat," I'll check it later. Posted by: henry at June 25, 2004 07:08 AMwow. it's the best character in the movie i hate most right now. :D my little brother - five-year-old - made my mom buy Python for him from amazon.com - he loves that movie and i have to watch it every. single. day. sure it gets tiring but your character never fails to make me crack up. thanks for the amusement and yeah, python was a pretty bad movie. xD i loved you in TNG and stand by me is one of my favorite movies. Posted by: elyse at June 25, 2004 07:26 AMStop hatin' on "Python". It is my favorite Wil/Keith project. Forget "Tales from the Crypt", forget "Toy Soldiers", "Python" is where the real Wheaton/Coogan action is the best. I love watching my "Python" DVD. (which I purchased for like under $10) Yeah, it is a cheesy movie, but it was MEANT to be a cheesy movie. If you ask Billy Zabka, it's the best darn snake movie out there. It's the next "Lake Placid". hahaha Posted by: Keith Coogan at June 25, 2004 09:23 AMI don't know where this belongs, and it's probably NOT something you are going to answer but I am going to as anyhow.. How much money do you make a year now? BTw just to be fair I make an astounding 42K a year, but I'm only 1 year removed from college.. ugh.. Posted by: It's ME, that's who... at June 25, 2004 12:47 PMThis has nothing to do with your post, but I am watching you on Family Ties right now. Gol-lee you were a twig! Congrats on the books and everything else! Posted by: Shawn at June 25, 2004 12:48 PMSigh. ...fantasy gaming... doesn't ANYONE play d20 Modern? Posted by: Prest0 at June 25, 2004 02:21 PMWil, speaking of gaming, we never got to hear how your introduction to gaming with your boys turned out. I would love to know how it went. I can still remember my first RPG experience, and the wonder and excitement of it all. Posted by: Adam at June 25, 2004 05:30 PMoff topic, but when are you getting the air conditioner? D&D, well that brings back memories. Spacifically Desert Storm. Ya, believe it or not, we had the time and energy to play D&D, and Spades, and Nintendo Game Boys (Nintendo donated several to us). It's amazing what you will do to pass the time when you are super bored, sitting in a tent, in the middle of the flippin desert! Posted by: TeddGCM at June 28, 2004 12:32 AMhey Will, Thecharmedprincess13@yahoo.com p.s. if i give you my address do you think you can send me an autographed Pic. i don't really trust the website addresses there usually fake.so e0mail me and let me Hi, you - heard of poker? 888 info is just the right thing for you.
