July 28, 2004

last of the 31st

Did you know that tomorrow's my 32nd birthday?

I'm not asking because I'm trolling for gifts or silly songs or anything. I'm asking because -- and this is the 100% honest truth -- I didn't realize it was tomorrow.

I've got a lot happening right now: the EB9 show in Vegas on Friday ( as well as the entire convention weekend) plus writing for the ACME show, plus dealing with a very big and scary family medical issue have all conspired to totally eat my brain, and make my birthday seem totally minor and irrelevant . . . it's so weird that something I've always looked forward to has been so completely pushed off my radar.

Well, I guess it's part of growing older, or something.

This morning, I had to renew my driver's license, (something I didn't realize until yesterday) so I went to the DMV . . . without an appointment *dramatic music*

It actually wasn't bad at all. I was in and out in 1 hour and ten minutes, and every single person I dealt with was helpful, patient, and friendly. After I had my picture taken, the guy who took it told me happy birthday, and then a pretty girl who was in line behind me said, "Hey! My birthday is July 29th too!" So we both said "Happy birthday!" in unison. That was way cool.

I'm going to moblog and audioblog from Vega$, so check them out if you need your WWdN fix while I'm gone.

If you're coming to Vega$ for the show, I'll be performing from Geek and Barefoot at 1PM on Friday, and the EB9 show is at 6:40 (?) the same night. I'll also be signing books and pictures all day Saturday.

. . . and I wasn't going to say much about this . . . but, uhm . . . I would really appreciate it if you guys could keep me and Anne and our family in your thoughts for the next few days.

Thanks.

Good juju your way and wished for a positive ending to the medical thing.

I would like to ask WWDN readers to send some mojo towards the Boston way please. We are having our own scary medical thing: My 38 y/o sister-in-law is having an MRI right now to determine if she has a brain tumor. She had a migraine for 4 days and then started vomiting..off to emergency they went. The CAT scan showed bleeding on the brain. The second CAT scan at MASS General ruled out an aneurism..my two young nephews need their Mom. So, if it isn't too much trouble, please send some love our way.

Much thanks.

Happy Birthday, Wil Wheaton. Thoughts of protection are being sent west. And I wasn't able to donate back then to the L&L for Kris, but I found a slip from our local chapter here in Pittsburgh and I'm going to send something now in honor of Kris and in memory of my Aunt who died from lymphoma, she battled it for years. Remember WWDN readers, all the organizations you belive in need help all the time, not just at marathons. If you couldn't send it then, send it now, or as soon as you can.

Again, prayers, thoughts, wishes, mojo, karma, all headed your way.

If I may reccomend a book to buy, it is

"The Meaning Of Lost And Mismatched Socks" - ISBN 1-58394-097-9

by Harry S. Robins, AKA "Dr. Howll", the announcer of the former TNN show "Conspiracy Zone with Kevin Nealon". Howll is also the voice in the game Half-Life.

Howll's book is a practical DOCTORAL THESIS entirely on the subject of lost socks. Why it is people lose them, the various different theories of what happens to them and where it is those lost socks may actually end up.

If you've ever lost a sock (and who hasn't?) then this book is a must-read!

It would figure that I am unable to attend the Vegas thing due to living in a new state. Good luck to you and your family.

If you find your way to Baltimore (I really don't know why you would) let us know.

Happy Effin Birthday.

Happy Birthday, from one geek-actor to another.

P.S. For your birthday I bought your book. Hooray for thinkgeek!

happy birthday, fellow Leo!
This will be one of your best years yet!!!

I always forget my birthday too, until someone reminds me it's coming up. Subconscious denial? Quite possibly.

Sorry to hear about the health concerns! Mojo in route. In the mean time, hope you're able to set aside your worries and kick some ass in Vega$.

Posted by: Tracy (in SanDiego) at July 28, 2004 05:34 PM

Actually, I did know it is your birthday (today, Australian time) since our local radio station announced it. One of those "On-this-day" and "Famous-birthday" things.

Much mojo to you. If anyone can spare some mojo, I'm waiting on the results of a job interview.

Posted by: Porfyria at July 28, 2004 05:36 PM

You got it. Hope all goes well with you and your family.

Major Mojo baby and remember you two have enough good karma built up to last you at least a few years after the walk of hell and the donations and the...what is it? Plasma?? I'd also like to send mojo to Boston, may it just be a little vessel and nothing major.

love to all

Happiest of bdays, Wil - thanks for being one of my favorite people for a long time & for continuing to be above & beyond a person I'm proud to be a fan of.
Have a great day, lots of positive vibes & mojo to you & yours and I'm looking forward to continuing to keep up with you!

Hello...
It has taken me days to try to put together a post - seems silly I know but I wanted to be able to say Your family will be in my thoughts.
I hope everything goes well for you and them over the next week!

Also I have seen most everything you've been in. I was in awe with you when I was younger. A friend and myself went and saw Toy Soldiers at the theatre 9 times... I even have the movie on VHS :)
You and Sean were great... I would always joke that maybe if I watched it enough that you wouldn't be killed. And by chance I caught the episode of Invisible man on SciFi with you on it.
When I stumbled on your blog I was shock and pleasantly suprised. It is witty and refreshing to read - thank you for keeping everything so simple and personal! It is great that you are a mac person! My boyfriend works for apple - love my computer! And seeing that you play Diablo to relax was great! I love diablo and starcraft...
I am hoping to go out and find your book this weekend.
Looking forward to your posts!
Thanks and smiles

Happy Birthday, good luck with the health issue, and congrats on being mentioned in the latest issue of Wired (p.53). You are ranked #17 blogger for inbound links (if you didn't already know).

One huge mojo care package from the middle of the Pacific heading your way! :^) You, Anne, and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as you all traverse the rough seas ahead. Hang in there!

Happy 32nd Wil.

I hit the big 30 this year so I've been feeling older too. :)

Anyways, keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers.

Happy Birthday wishes to you, Wil, and positive vibes heading your way. I hope all is well in your family and am going to add you to my prayers tonight.

I am so bummed that I won't be going to Vegas for the big shindig this year. I need a WW autograph on my JAG book!! Any chance you'll do next year too?

Have a great birthday and time in Vegas.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WIL !
*gives Wil a big hug*
32 heh?
Geez I remember when you were like a teenager when you were in Stand By Me!
Here's a tidbit for you. I became a fan of yours from that movie and I've been a fan ever since.

OOOPSSSSSSSS.
Lot's of Mojo to you and your family.
Sorry I forgot to send it to ya.
I usually don't post twice, but I forgot to send you and your family lot's of Mojo. Charlie my cat also told me to tell you that he wants to send you some of his luck.

Happy BDay Wil.

Lotsa mojo for the medical stuff.

My BDay is on the 30th.

Try and have fun in Lost Wages.

Posted by: Ray at July 28, 2004 07:29 PM

Mucho mojo for you and the family, Wil. Here's wishing that you get the best possible birthday gift - the news that the big scary medical issue is not going to be a problem for you.

All the best, and break a leg!

Many positive thoughts for you and yours...

Stay focused on basic things like drinking enough water / trying to get some rest every know and then > sounds silly, I know, but in times of trial, the most basic elements can greatly influence your capacity & ability for the curves the universe tosses out.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

- Leo Buscaglia

We're really strangers, but after reading your web log, you really seem more like a friend. Thanks for all of your words and stories -- whatever the family crisis, I wish you the best and send lots of MOJO your way!

Curl up with one of your kitties -- their purring will do wonders to calm your nerves.

Good luck in Vegas! Do they still have the pirate ship fight there at one of the casinos? I haven't been there since I attended Comdex in 1995.

One last comment - congrats on turning 32!!! I972 was a wonderful year -- you're one month and 10 days older than me!

Posted by: Linda at July 28, 2004 08:11 PM

Oops - I meant reading your blog, not web log! :-) That sounds too much like the captain's log on Star Trek.

Happy Birthday, Wil!

Posted by: Linda at July 28, 2004 08:14 PM

Holding you and Anne in my thoughts and prayers.

Happy 32...you know, I think I remember 32, long long ago in a galaxy far far away... :) Actually, my 32nd year was pretty awesome, because that was the year the spouse and I finally tied the knot after 4 years of dating. (He's cute, but indecisive... ) (And he just peeked over the shoulder and wishes you a Happy B-Day as well. :) )

Still looking for JAG; they didn't have it on the shelves and the guy at the info counter wasn't one of the cute guys so I didn't get around to asking about it. ;) May try a few other places this weekend; payday Friday (which totally rocks)!

Anyway, keep us posted if you can, but have a great time in Vegas and try to stay away from the poker tables if possible. (And I wish PokerStars supported Macs too.) Oh, while you're up there, say "Hi" to my money, and don't leave too much behind of yours to keep it company. ;)

Happy Birthday Wil, and tons of mojo from me and my family here in Houston. My daughter and I discovered your Website a few months ago and have been hooked ever since! I bought her "Dancing Barefoot" for her 19th birthday and we have "Just a Geek" on order and can't wait to read it.

I have been meaning for some time to write and thank you for just sharing so much of yourself and your life experiences with your fans. I think that you connect with people on such an honest level, it makes it easy to relate. Thanks again. Like Lula said from an earlier post, you make me proud to be a Wil Wheaton fan.

Posted by: Priscilla at July 28, 2004 08:24 PM

Happy Birthday Man! Gee, what else to say? Well, if you were a video game geek instead of being out there having a life and all, I'd make you a nice avatar for "Freedom Force" (its a hobby).

Other than that, have a great time! And uh, I'm not from Toronto, but at least there's one person from Calgary who wishes you well.

Take care!

Posted by: Dan at July 28, 2004 09:16 PM

From one Leo to another, Wil, Happy Birthday! Mine's on Saturday and it will be my 31st (31 on the 31st--guess I finally hit my Golden Birthday). Anyway, hope yours is fantastic and memorable. Enjoy your time away from California and remember to hydrate well while in Vegas!

Posted by: Kristen at July 28, 2004 09:16 PM

Wil and Anne,

You know the power of good thoughts. Ours are with you now more than ever.

May the wind beneath your wings lift you, the wind on your sails take you through the rocky parts, and may the wind clear your mind and heart.

Posted by: Dornar at July 28, 2004 09:19 PM

Here's hoping you have a grand birthday.

Try not to let life trample your spirits too much. Positive thoughts, positive thoughts...

Best wishes to you and the family.

Vegas! Oh yeah! From the local's standpoint I must say that it's a great place to be. ;) Though I do miss the changing of the seasons.

I only wish that I had someone that would tag along with me should I have a chance to drop in at the convention. It would be fun to check things out. I had the chance to go to the new 4D attraction in May for half price but never made it. I'll probably go next month when my mother-in-law (a big Star Trek fan herself) comes out for a visit. We always make it a point to go to the Hilton to eat when she comes. Good food and a great atmosphere. :) I highly recommend it.

Happy Birthday Wil,

Even though, there are scary medical things happening in your life (by the way thoughts are out to u ) IT'S YOUR Birthday if it wasn't for you being born I wouldn't have someone to admire AND have a peace of mind that the star that i once had a major crush on has a wonderful family and turned out to be a great guy.
SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIVE IT UP..
LOVE SHELL

Posted by: Rochelle at July 28, 2004 09:23 PM

Well at least you're not stressing about those birthdays, if one can sneak up on you like that. Happy Birthday, and best wishes and vibes to you and your family.

Posted by: Barbara at July 28, 2004 09:58 PM

Happy Birthday to you, Wil!!! Whatever your scary medical issue is (and, there seem to be a lot of those going on in my world these days as well), I wish you and your family all the best and send along all the good health and happiness mojo I've got. With as many people as you have pulling for you, the world wouldn't dare give you anything but good news.......Try to find a little something to smile about each and every day just to give yourself a break from the scary stuff.
