I've only been reading your blog for a few months now. And, I don't know you personally, but I would never believe that you would post something like this. You seem to be a real nice guy.....and one of the only genuine and down-to-earth people left in LA.

I've been taking a moment to savor the irony that the a-hole who made those comments also posted WWdN as a URL, directing everyone here where they can plainly see that you're not responsible for such depravity.

This is my first visit to willwheaton.net, so I hope I am posting in the right place. (Trying to be carefull not to stick things where they don't belong) I just read Mr. Wheaton's book, "Just a Geek". I found it interesting to hear about the day to day struggle of the modern actor. I also laughed out loud while reading the book and that hasn't happend for a long time. The book was fun to read.

My condolences. I'm afraid the only brush with impersonation I've had is when I panicked because kilbia@hotmail.com was already taken...and it turned out I'd already taken it and forgotten about it.

I wish I could condemn the impersonator more vehemently, but I remember fifteen years ago when I read a satirical piece in a teen magazine about Wil Wheaton losing his memory (as evidenced by the fact that he couldn't correctly answer any of the quizzes about him in competing teen magazines) and I totally fell for it because I didn't get the concept of satire yet.

I can't believe that people would actually think that anyone even remotely famous would post something like that under their actual name. Someone must have thought "Finally! Now I can make that Wesley Crusher pay!" Way to go, jerkface.

I saw Rodney's death reporting on cnn.com last night after the debate. It made me sad because, he, like you and some others, are apart of me; my memories growing up.

I really enjoy reading your blog for a couple reasons. One: I feel a sense of belonging with you because of the characters you played while we grew up. But also because I enjoy the person you have become, your writing, and the values we share. I don't *know* you, obviously, but I *feel* as though I do, and that's worth something. I suspect others feel the same way. Most of us accept and respect that boundry.

When I logged onto your site today and read that. I was pissed, and *I* took it personaly, LOL. Silly? Maybe. I dunno.

When I read what he/she wrote in your name it was dead clear to me that the person either didn't know you or is obsessed and resents you and that boundry the rest of us respect.

Wil, best advise, if I might be so bold, I can give you is to "let it go" Because my guess is that this person really wants attention, especially from you and perhaps even your web site. Good or bad attention is attention all the same, and I'd hate to see this guy rewarded for such a deplorable act.

You know that you were the best thing that ever happened to Rodney. To his fans, we will all miss him. I had the honor to work with Rodney on one of his last films. He was an old school pro. Rodney always worked, writing down jokes, trying them out on the cast and crew. He came from an honest place when trying out new material. He's awesome, but the secret is that he acted like he didn't know he was awesome. This is one of the nicest, and funniest guys I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I love you Rodney. We are already missing you.

I can say that many people do have hotmail acct's that they use as their 'main' accts... infact, I can vouch for at least one who is a 'star' in his own right (just sent my neice an autograph picture for her birthday last week - she LOVED IT!!!!!) and that person does have a hotmail address.

This is going to sound funny, considering that I I "reinvented" myself as Madonna online back in June when it came out that she wanted to be called Esther, but here goes:

There is a difference between screwing around online and being funny, and being vicious. While I've been "Madonna" for four months now, I've never crossed that line: I've never used "reinvention" as an excuse to post anything vicious about her or anyone else, and I've never tried to convince people that I am the real Madonna Ciccone (in fact, my blog has a disclaimer on it, saying as much).

If someone had created a site, claiming to be Wil, and said things as a joke like "Captain Picard should've been given hair implants to make him look like a Chia Pet" and "I always dreamed of turning Data into a vacuum cleaner" and "Troi - You, me, holodeck, NOW!", it would've been hilarious. However, the way Wil's name was used was anything BUT hilarious.

What "Wil Wheaton" did on rodney.com crosses both lines. Not only was that a sick thing to say, but doing so claiming to be Wil makes it even more disgusting. If the person who wrote that felt the need to spew such venom, he/she should've had the guts to make up a fake name, or just use their own. Writing it as "Wil Wheaton" unfairly drags Wil into the mess.

So, take it from someone who has amused themselves by playing around with a new identity online: When it's used to spoof (ie. You want to be Esther now? Fine, I'm Madonna now!), it's cute and funny. When it's used to cause pain and manipulate people, it's not.

Believe me, I'm not laughing at what "Wil" posted on rodney.com. I sure hope the REAL Wil gets him, and introduces him to Worf.
