Just A Geek has gotten a couple of nice reviews recently, and I wanted to share them with WWdN readers, because the book wouldn't even exist without your support and encouragement.

Richard says:

It's inspiring stuff. Wil's tackling the challenges that life has thrown at him full on. In doing so, he's rediscovered a skill for writing that is engrossing, engaging and even endearing. You feel for the guy as he tells of his struggles, as a working-class actor, to land roles in movies and shows; as he struggles to make ends meet. But you also cheer with him when he scores victories, and things come together, either getting back on the Trek circuit, or making the leap to embracing his current situation. He's a long way away from the loaded actor I suppose I thought he was having had such roles earlier in his career. He really is Just a geek.

And The Impuslive Buy writes:

Despite not having chapters devoted to such things as the snacks you should have for a successful Dungeons & Dragons gathering, Just A Geek was a great read. Wil gives you a look into his personal life and his difficult journey to find himself.

This book was so entertaining that it was the first book in a long time I did not want to put down.

From reading Just A Geek, you find out that despite being a great actor and a wonderful writer, Wil is just a normal guy with basically the same problems we have all faced at one time or another, except we probably don’t have the shame of being on the cover of Teen Beat magazine.

Just A Geek isn't getting much support from the publisher any more, so it makes me awfully happy to hear that new people are discovering it anyway, and seem to be enjoying it.

I'm working on two new books, a Dancing Barefoot style collection of family stories, and a fiction novella. I hope to have them both out by the end of the year.

So, I finally get around to getting my hands on Uncle Willie's books a handful of weeks ago. Not as easy as you think. Apparently, I was cursed or something to the effect: no bookstore I would go to carried them. I naively kept up with the idea th... [Read More]

I'm first? That can't be right.

I listened to some of the audio today and it was like having Wil right in my living room.

In fact, I kept yelling to empty space: "Damn it, dude STOP looking at the finches in my yard! Freak."

hey, I'm glad that you're going to have new books coming out soon... I need my fix! :-) Got DB when you were still shipping from your house, and I still read it. Looking forward to CSI tonight and the forthcoming blog entry (as are all of us, I'm sure). Once a monkey, always a monkey... long live the monkeys! (The Monkees?) :-)

I know you're a busy man, and can only write so much, but I'd like to put in a vote for more poker writing if time allows :).

Careful with the family stories, Wil!

I wrote an anthology of friend and family stories - "Memoirs of an Italian Geek", which is more fiction than fact - but I still have pissed off friends and family members from it... it seems that they saw more of themselves in some of the characters than they should have - or at least that I thought they would have... they were quick to take offence to it and I haven't sold very many copies.

Morale of the story is that family will always love you because they have you but that doesn't mean that they automatically like you enough to will pee on you if you were on fire.

Hey, good job tonight on CSI! I thought you'd have more airtime but nonetheless the time you did have was really good. You make a convincing crazy guy. :)

I love The Impulsive Buy! I can't believe I missed that in my surfing of the archives. Marvo cracks me up...and he has good taste, so it shouldn't surprise me that he reviewed Just A Geek...

I read "Dancing Barefoot" the other night and loved it. You are such a great write and can seeminly effortlessly bring acroos emotions hidden in the words so that i didnt feel them coming. Its also powerful how totally into your emotions and open with them you are. I think thats one of the biggest strengths you have. That and you are so damned funny! I'm so excited to hear about the new writing projects, and i can garuntee i'll add them to my librray when they come out!

A fiction novella? Outstanding! After reading your other work, that is what I think you should do; you have a real gift for describing things in interesting ways that is the mark of good writing (to me, at least).

Hey Wil,
I love the idea of reading your fiction.
I had hoped you'd get more screen time on CSI tonight, but the show was good - and Walter was definitely crazy!!
Great job! I hope it catches the eye of other...show, movies, whatever. It's always so much more fun watching something - a game or play, etc. when there's someone you know, or feel like you know up there.
Anyway, congratulations and well done!!

Hmm, two Allie's in a row. :-)

Anyway, Wil, I can't wait for your future projects - I've been passing around DB and JAG to my family and friends, who all love it.

Have you ever thought about writing a screenplay? It just seems like it would be a great merge of your talents.

Loved CSI! I hope they gave Walter a new sweater to replace the blue one...

First time visitor here. :)
As someone who thinks that celebrities are typically jaded, it does my cynical li'l heart good to see someone who is still so enthused and excited about his craft.

And I'd like to add that CSI is a weekly must-see for me, so I was pleasantly surprised at the wonderful performance last night. MUCH more believable than Stephen Baldwin.
He's just...sort of creepy.

A novella? Wow! You really ARE turning into The Writer from Stand By Me. Good luck!

Hey Wil, glad you got some good reviews. I couldn't get Richard's site to load for some reason, but The Impulsive Buy is a great blog (they obviously have good taste since they gave your book a positive review) and some of the funniest writing I've ever read online. Reminded me of Dave Barry, who is hella funny. Looking forward to your new books when they come out.

Hey Wil,

I admire you for doing things your own way and appreciate the integrity you've shown about your politics and your real self. The publishing world has been so good to you but, as you know, it's not an endless river of gratitude - it's a business just like any other. My partner has 11 books in print at the moment and it's astonishing how little work publishers will do to promote their authors. And this is the whole thing about the *bottom line*... so we authors end up doing the majority of the promotional work that their publicity departments should really be doing. I'm sure you aren't having a lot of problems promoting your books given your identity, etc but if you ever do decide to flip the bird to the corporate publishing world you wouldn't be the only one. Here in Toronto, a local author, Jim Munroe dumped his publisher Harper Collins after he decided he wasn't into being a part of Rupert Murdoch style consolidation. I only mention this because it's clear that your politics are real to you - as real as your writing. And given your self-built reputation there's a possibility that you could take what you've already got and fly solo without the help of the corporations. BTW here's Munroe's site, the aptly titled, "No Media Kings"

Cheers!
