« museum of idiots | Main | once more into the geek » May 20, 2005flickr and walterWhile looking at Sean Bonner's Flickr photos from E3 yesterday, I discovered that my name is a Flickr Tag. That's . . . a little weird. It sure makes it easy to send pictures to my mom, though. And my friend Andrew told me that I am mentioned in a story at MSNBC about season five of CSI: Best guest star: Pruitt Taylor Vince, as Marty Gleason in "Swap Meet." It was a small part, but this character actor made the most of it. He played a crime-scene cleanup man, who broke into a Southern accent when talking to the victim’s family, because, "The bereaved often find a southern accent very comforting." What does it take to be part of the "blood bucket brigade"? Marty said it best: "All you really need is a strong stomach, a thorough knowledge of solvents, a little sensitivity, a little tact." Runners-ups include Melissa Leo (also known as Kay from "Homicide: Life on the Street") for her heart-wrenching turn as the mother who uses her daughter to keep her son alive in "Harvest." And, of course, Will Wheaton, making a small-screen comeback as Walter the homeless man in "Compulsion."I don't even care that they spelled my name wrong, and I'd still like to say: "w00t!" :) Comments
You shoulda won, dammit. Although, maybe if the others can't fulfill their duties for some reason, you can get the title! Posted by: TheSingah at May 20, 2005 09:11 AM
Name wrong !! - small screen COMEBACK?? - Runner up !! - You need to give someone a good kicking !. you definitely deserved the mention for the role and should have been the winner. - Keep it going Wil. at May 20, 2005 09:15 AM
I'm thrilled that I even got mentioned -- though I appreciate the sentiment, I don't think it's appropriate to expect anything more. Posted by: Wil at May 20, 2005 09:20 AM
Request: Tell us about the new gaming consoles/games coming out. KROQ covered this a bit this morning and really whet my apetite to hear what's coming down the pike for gamers. Request: We're at the QUARTER-POLE and there hasn't been a BASEBALL post in like... FOREVER. I like poker, too. But what about Our Game? To motivate, here's a great quote from Bob Hille in todays Sporting News: "The joy of a baseball season is that annually we suspect, project and expect certain results, yet inevitably, inexorably, we are surprised and mystified by the successes and failures found in 162 works of art, unveiled one at a time." Love that. --AJ @ Radio Du Egg ps-- maybe it's because those Boys in Blue have been slipping like a California mudslide? *ahem* at May 20, 2005 09:57 AM
Like TypeKey, you've now forced my to sign up for Flickr to upload my Sweet Uncle Willie(tm) experience. Posted by: jslicer at May 20, 2005 10:27 AM
Does life get any cooler than lying on the floor geeking out with Xeni while working for NPR? No it does not. No it does not. I hate you Wheaton (by hate I mean get so "ginormously jealous that I add more pics and posts to my stalkerazi shrine while living the ultimate geek life vicariously through you" ;) HHOS BTW -- gratz on the good review. Keep it up. Good luck etc. (Oh love the pokerblog posts too). Posted by: mcsey at May 20, 2005 11:10 AM
flickr rocks! The E3 photos are interesting, and I love the 'tagging' feature. Makes it so easy to quickly find great photos. And where are your chucks? Posted by: lomara at May 20, 2005 11:33 AM
It must be a trip to search for yourself on flickr and see a shitload of images at various places. Whats crazy is theres even other pics of you from various "appearances" you have made. Way cool to see you and Xeni tearing up E3 with the guys. -Jason Posted by: abstrakONE at May 20, 2005 11:53 AM

Hey Wil, when you were at E3 did you check out the Oblivion booth? Those guys love you! Specifically, one of the world artists thinks you're really awesome. :) Posted by: christy at May 20, 2005 01:52 PM
Okay, it's true...i'm a RABID CSI fan. i was a biology major in college (yes, it's true...now i'm an actor, but hey - at least the research ethic has paid off.) and it pleases me so much to see science in the mainstream now, looking all glamorous and stuff. but i have to agree with Shed above...you totally deserved to win! when i saw you in that episode i screamed so loud i scared my dog. that's a little sad though, since i've never met you, but it was like seeing one of my friends do good. ooo...does that make me a true fan, truly deluded, or both?! don't worry about the restraining order, i live in Alaska. I like the "and of course"...it's like they were saying, "if it wasn't so obvious we would have just made Wil Wheaton the winner, but since it's so obvious were gonna make him runner-up and diss him a tad by spelling his name wrong so it doesn't scare off other shows from hiring such an obvious established talent." Great pics - You looked rather handsome (and by handsome I mean you're such a hottie!). :) Don't worry, I'm not a stalker - I'm quite happy with my hubby and son. I just thought I'd let you know I appreciated the link. A little eye-candy is never a bad thing. Posted by: Orchid75 at May 22, 2005 09:51 AM
Wil, you're looking more and more like your dad. Jennene agrees with me. ;) Posted by: Vortmax at May 23, 2005 06:53 AM
Some people want fame and riches...I just want to make it as someone's flickr tag. :) This is my first time here. *waving hi to everyone* Posted by: Kristine at May 23, 2005 08:24 AM
Grats Wil. Although I'll have to admit I don't remember that episode. :( I'll have to watch for it. Btw, I don't suppose you're into EverQuest and will be hanging Fan Faire in Vegas June 9th-12th will you? Posted by: David Neylon at May 23, 2005 03:07 PM
I agree with previous posters: Wil, I saw you in that ep. of CSI and you were awesome. Very well done. I talked to my parents about it later (Dad is a HUGE Trekkie), and they was absolutely floored -- they had no idea it was you! Good work. I however, spotted your name in the opening credits [ ;) ], and immediate recognized your eyes and voice when you came on. Posted by: teh l4m3 at May 24, 2005 07:25 AM
