« on green dolphin street | Main | i am not a number! i am, rather, a series of numbers, painted across my fingernails » June 13, 2005possum kingdomI signed, and Anne helped me pack, label, and stamp the remaining fundraiser book orders this weekend. We just got back from the post office, where we shipped the domestic fundraiser book orders — if you haven't gotten your book yet, look for it in 3-5 days. I forgot that even though it's just a book, I have to fill out customs forms and crap, so the international (including Canada) orders will go out tomorrow. Sorry :( We did all the math last night, and the fundraiser completely covered all the office visits and medication for Felix, Sketch, and Ferris, with was just under $500 left over. Anne and I rounded that up to $500, and we are donating it to a no-kill shelter later this week. I don't know if the shelter wants the attention, so unless they give me permission, I won't disclose their name. My deepest, and most sincere thanks to everyone who bought books, and my apologies to the five of you who had to get refunds because we ran out. Donating to a no-kill shelter is an awesome idea; I don't know about the ones in your area, but up here, if they have space, they go around to the kill-shelters and rescue as many animals as they can. the SPCA here rescued a bunch of kittens that were a day away from being put down...we got one of them, and as insane and aggressive as he is, I can't imagine anyone killing him. You can fill out customs forms online and then print them. Much easier than doing by hand. http://webapps.usps.com/customsforms/welcome.htm Posted by: Smiling Jack at June 13, 2005 12:17 PM
classy as always. wish I'd had the money to buy one, I hope you can do it again someday. Posted by: Loreleilee at June 13, 2005 12:32 PM
Donating to a no-kill shelter is unbelievably big-hearted of you. I wish I could say that in your position I would do the same thing, but I know I'm not that good a person. I salute you both. Posted by: revenant5 at June 13, 2005 12:47 PM
Possum Kingdom isn't just a song about walking around a lake at night and getting freaky but an actual place in Texas. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/park/possum/ That and I wanted to make it into the top 10 first posters for once instead of guy #178. RED SHIRT ME!!! :) Posted by: Widget at June 13, 2005 01:06 PM
My book just arrived today. I'm so glad you were able to cover the vet fees. I think it's a nice thing you are doing with the extra money. I can't wait to get started on the book. I need to hurry up if I'm to finish your book before Harry Potter gets here! :) Posted by: AmyO at June 13, 2005 01:28 PM
I will wait anxiously at my PO Box for the book. And take Smiling Jack's suggestion and print the custom forms online. You can print the postage and have your carrier pick them up at the house too if you want. Posted by: ZiggyNJ at June 13, 2005 02:31 PM
You were right about that cutting back on blogging thing... only 6 times in the last five days. Shame on you ;-) Posted by: CJ at June 13, 2005 03:29 PM
Very noble of you, Wil. Posted by: Bobby D. at June 13, 2005 03:52 PM

The rest to an animal shelter? THAT was a GREAT IDEA! NOW GET BACK TO BED!!! OR THE SOFA!!! OR SOMEPLACE YOU CAN BE HORIZONTAL!!! (Please, don't give a possible relapse an engraved invitation. Re-read previous comments from others who thought they were better and then............) karen Posted by: karenls at June 13, 2005 05:19 PM
Yeah, I've noticed that you picked up the blogging instead of cutting back. And here I hadn't checked it in a couple days for fear of finding nothing new. Meh. Posted by: Jackie at June 13, 2005 06:36 PM
Both my cats are from no kill shelters. Thanks to Wil and all who participated in the sale. Posted by: CGG at June 13, 2005 08:10 PM
Grats on covering the bills, it's amazing how expensive all things medical have become. I miss having kits around, you must love yours very much. I agree with the rest, it is very noble of you to donate the rest. Not everyone would think of it, muchless do it. Donateing time/money to a cause is an amazing feeling. I am so glad your fundraiser went to so well. And I am even happier to hear the balance of the funds went to a shelter. I try to donate as much time, money or supplies as possible to shelters. Now if we could just convince people of the importance of spaying and neutering.... But that's another soapbox entirely!!!! Thanks for thinking of the critters!!! Excellent call on the no-kill shelter donation! And quite a few other things, too. Posted by: Jugglernaut at June 14, 2005 06:38 AM
Great job, Wil. You saved your own pet's life, and probably the lives of other soon-to-be pets as well! Posted by: Patrick at June 14, 2005 07:41 AM
Just received mine moments ago... thanks Wil! I'm getting anxious to re-read my other copy already (this one, of course, will be placed on the mantle with pride). --T Posted by: t_knotts at June 14, 2005 09:34 AM
Wow! Way to go Posse! Tim in Nor Cal...and his heard of fur-persons. (all of which are shelter rescues!) Posted by: TimCalif at June 14, 2005 11:21 AM
what a pleasant surprise...I thought you had died...and stumbled upon this blog and clearly you are not dead. What a good day today turned out to be...now I must go ponder why I thought you died....*scratches head* Posted by: Jennzebel at June 14, 2005 11:44 AM
I just got home from the doctors...and guess what I have? Mono!!! Thx Wil for spreading your germs all the way to Baltimore :) I honestly thought only 15 year old girls could get mono, until I saw that you had it. I'm going back to bed now, watching lots of tv. I did see you this morning on VH1's Top 100 Child Stars. pretty cool Posted by: wendy_darling at June 14, 2005 11:56 AM
Picked up the book from my PO Box last night. Stayed home sick and finished it today. at June 14, 2005 12:07 PM
Yay yay yay for donating to the no-kill shelter. The fundraiser was a great idea, but donating the leftovers was brilliant. Feel better! Posted by: timmyweb at June 14, 2005 02:14 PM
Hey Wil, -Noel Posted by: Noel Burke at June 14, 2005 02:40 PM
Just got mine yesterday. Thanks Wil! I can't wait to read it, and I'm glad I could help out. If you ever decide to do the same with Dancing Barefoot, I'm in. I laughed for a good 5 minutes, out loud, by myself, in my car at the "something witty" that I asked you to put in there. Thanks for making my day! Posted by: JeffD at June 14, 2005 02:51 PM
Giving to a no-kill shelter is a great idea, Wil. When my son was born, and we discovered that he was allergic to our cats, we had to give them away. Well those kitties were part of our family, and we were heartbroken about it. We couldn't find any takers, so we contacted the Animal Shelter to find out what our options were. When they saw how sweet and loving our kitties were, they immediately called the local no-kill shelter for us, and the cats were there that same day. They were both adopted together (they were sisters) within a few days, and maybe that would have happened with the regular Animal Shelter as well, but it sure took a load off our minds to know that whatever happened, they would have a home (we would have taken them back and figured something out if they were in danger of being put to sleep, but I'm glad it didn't come to that). Oh, and I got my JaG in the mail today. Awesome! Thanks again, Wil! Posted by: Rodan at June 14, 2005 03:15 PM

hey wil... at June 14, 2005 07:01 PM
I saw you on the "100 Greatest Child Stars" also, Wil. I just about shrieked with joy (Yeah...bear with me, I'm a teen). I was yelling, "It's Wil! Wil!" and my mom couldn't believe how good-looking you were. She asked me, "Is that really him?" That was really cool. But ditto... you have a much greater career now. Glad Anne & You recouped the money Wil and gave the rest to a worthy cause.. :)

Wil...
As for the 5 people who didn't get their books (which I was too slow in grabbing a copy), I suggest that maybe you can do a consolatory thing for them. Maybe if you have any 8x10's laying around or maybe a computer pic of you and Darwin sending Good Mojo personally signed, it would be a quick send and nice momento for those who tried to contribute and help your furry family. (Then again, chances are you have already done something cool like that already.) Keep up the good resting and healing. Keep playing low key for a while and don't fool yourself into relapse. Give Anne a big hug and Ferris a belly scratch (or vice versa). ; ) - Dusty Posted by: DustyTymes at June 15, 2005 05:20 AM
I also spotted the Wil Wheaton sighting on VH1!!! Too cool!! When I saw the ads running for the show, I was guessing that was the special you had referred to! And you were #62, that ain't too shabby! Posted by: swl-mom2Bryn at June 15, 2005 08:24 AM
*looks at calendar* *looks at front door* *bites nails and pulls hair while waiting* You got me sitting on pins and needles, Wil. We leave for vacation in two days. I really wanted to take it with since it's a gift for father's day. I don't know whether to call it perfect timing or excruciating torture... Thanks for getting it out. I missed out the book gig - I hope that you do something like that again in future, with the animals benefiting again. I will be right there with you! Posted by: jubalation at June 16, 2005 07:28 AM
Hey dude, I haven't been here in a long time. I'm glad Felix is still around! I have a Felix of my own & felt a weird connection... Posted by: cube at June 18, 2005 09:01 PM
I found my copy yesterday on my return from a trip to visit a seriously ill family member. It was just what I needed to lighten my mood. And thank you for the personalized inscription. It means a lot. Posted by: mharding01 at June 22, 2005 10:27 AM
